Testing opc across laptops

I have 2 laptops, one with vista and one with XP. Labview 7.1 is installed on both.  I have it where they are connected by a crossover ethernet cable and can read files on each computer.  I am using the example "Multiple OPC items Monitor".  I can read the NI OPC Server DEMO on my computer but can only read datasocket in the network places.  Question is how can I get labview to read the NI OPC Server Demo on the other laptop.

Hi,
Do you have LabVIEW DSC or are you just using the Datasocket API to read from the OPC server? IF you are using LabVIEW DSC you have to create a new I/O server that point it to the OPC Server on the other Laptop. If you are using the Datasocket API, you have to change the URL of the tag from using Localhost to the IP address (or DNS name) to the other computer. In any case, the concept for reading on the other laptop is the same, except that your URL will change to reflect the IP address of your other computer.

  • How do you test your new laptops?

To the gurus or people who have researched this question:  How do you test your new laptops?
When you get a new laptop, what do you do to test it?
My X1Carbon might arrive in a couple weeks, and reading about all the failures and DOAs is scary. So assuming mine is not simply DOA, how do you shake out the less obvious or more obscure problems?
I did search for this info before posting. One other person asked the question,
    >> Would appreciate advice re optimal set-up and what testing/diagnostics to do to determine if ther...
    but no one answered.

With testing I start with the basics and work my way to the harder stuff.
Inspect the external condition of the machine.
Boot and enter the BIOS before Windows. Review settings then power off.
Boot from Acronis True Image Home backup/recovery DVD and clone HDD or SSD and thus the factory image before it's ever booted to Windows.
Boot to Windows and look carefully at the Lenovo factory image and try to get an understanding for the Lenovo software and why it is there.  This does not include the other software from Microsoft, Google, etc.
Create Lenovo Factory Image DVD set with Rescue and Recovery.  Throw disk set in the box or put on the shelf in case the machine is ever re-sold.
Test all of the ports - I test every port on the machine for my expected usage.  For instance, in the case of the X1 Carbon I would confirm the mini DisplayPort connection works correctly with an external LCD panel.  If the machine had a IEEE firewire port or something, test that.  Test the USB 3.0 ports with a known working external external enclosure and verify transfer speeds.
Test the SSD speed with CrystalDiskMark, ATTO and AS Disk Benchmark software to get a good overview of the performance.
Install HWiNFO and look carefully at the components.  Observe turbo boosting, thermals and fan RPM over the course of a few days for battery and AC power.
Do at least one full battery discharge and recharge.  Observe the cycle and details are being properly displayed and recorded in Lenovo Power Manager.
Download all software and drivers from support.lenovo.com for the model being tested.  Confirm visually you have all the core components needed.  Core includes the drivers, power management driver, Power Manager, hotkeys, etc.
Flatten the machine and install Windows or Linux from scratch.  Install drivers and software.
Re-test ports and confirm the machine is working properly.
Benchmark the SSD again.  Confirm no change.
Install HWiNFO and confirm turbo, thermals and fan speeds are still proper.
Install core applications and test them.  There may be core features in Windows that also need to be installed and tested.  For instance, Windows 8 Hyper-V for virtualization.
Connect any external devices you expect to use and test them.  For instance, video cameras, smartphones, mp3 players, digital cameras, printers, USB docks, etc.
Do several battery tests with your typical applications and behavior.  The goal here is to simulate how the machine will be used in your day-to-day setting or travel scenarios.  I usually do at least three tests.  This can be rather time consuming with long battery life machines so I get a lot of other testing out of the way first.
By the time you get to this point, if you haven't hit any major roadblocks you'll start to have a good feel for the machine, and if it is going to be a keeper or not.  The assumption here is that during this timeframe you have been observing the screen, keyboard, and trackpad performance to see if it's to your liking.  The other assumption is that you are using the machine and applications in the scenarios you are purchasing it for.
I don't run synthetic benchmarks.  I prefer to test a machine against the scenarios I expect to use it with.  I spend most of the first week making this assessment.  If any major hardware defects are present, the machine is automatically returned.  I do not repair machines just received.  No exceptions.
Week 2 is for ironing out any minor issues and assessing if the machine meets the requirements for the scenarios it will support.  If it does, it is kept.  If it does not, it is returned.  This week includes subjective and objective input.  You have to weigh the pros and cons for a machine against your priorities. It is rare that a machine is perfect so you have to decide the ROI for the machine.  Service and Support must be considered so week two might include a call to support for any unresolved issues.  Don't discount the service you receive during this period.
After week two, you are likely right on top of the last day to return a Lenovo machine.  The return period is 21 days from the invoice date (I believe), not the day the machine is received so make sure you are well aware of it.  After 21 days, the machine is yours for good unless you sell it.  Decision time.
    Good luck.

  • Test install on laptop

    Hello,
For test purpose, I am installing Oracle server application on my laptop. My laptop is Windows NT. When I try to login to console with sysman\oem_temp userid and password, it gives below error. Also, I am unable to start the managementserver service under windows NT service window.
"VTK-1000: Unable to connect to the management server taceng. PLease verify that tyou have entered the correct host name and the status of the Oracle Management Server
    Thanks
    Sam

you could probably achieve this by placing unique key in mobileadmin.dm$user_device(user_id) so as registring a second device for a user will cause UK violation and operation failure.. but I didn't test this myself so you should test it thoroughly - it can have some undesired consequences.

  • How to test HP 2000 laptop MB

Greetings. My client damaged the jack of DC IN cable (661680-td1) and centre pin of power supply jack so laptop will not power up. However when I use universal power supply power LED lights up, but laptop will not power up anyway. Question is: can I test main board (as i'm not shure if the laptop was working on battery power till battery discharged or it just died ) without DC IN Cable plugged in by using battery (I don’t know if it’s charged ether) ? DC IN Cable got 7 wires - 2 red, 2 black, wite, yellow & broun. Any suggestions, please!

The laptop should power up from a charged battery even with the DC jack removed so apparently whatever hosed the power jack also got the motherboard in the process. If you don't know if the battery has any juice then I would purchase a DC jack...just a few bucks... and try it. Or try to find another similar laptop that will charge the battery.

  • I am having trouble testing EJB across network.

I am trying to test an ejb client, with jboss being the App Server, that would call a method of an EJB running on say "theserver.domain.com" machine. I get the following error when I run the client program from my PC.
The EJB and client works fine when jboss and client is on the same machine.
This is an example that comes from jboss site (http://www.jboss.org/doco_files/) called documentation-example.zip. I have modified the client as listed below. However, I have not touched the InterestBean which contains one business method called calculateCompoundInterest. It's very straight forward.
Does any one see anything wrong with the client code. Do you have to do anything special when deploying EJB to "theserver.domain.com" vs. running locally with client.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Hand motion across laptop keyboard causes scrolling?

    hello
When filling a field with text, the screen will 'scroll' down if I move my hands off and away from the keyboard. It will even 'scroll' back up if I return my hands to the keyboard to type.
Has anyone encountered this issue before? If so, what are the remedies?
I have disabled the glide pad and use a Logitech M325 wireless mouse. It occurred to me that simple hand motion between the wireless mouse and the mouse's USB 'module' might generate the 'scrolling'...
At any rate, the mouse itself is not moved at all during this unwanted scrolling...
    thank you

What if you disable the TrackPoint instead?

  • I get a "Short DST" failed error when running test. Laptop will not boot up. Any ideas?

I get a Short DST failed error when I ran a test.  The laptop won't bootup. All I get is a black screen

    Hi,
Certainly, the error code will be a Smart or Disk Self Test failure - in either case, it would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the start-up issue.
One possible way to try and retrieve your files from a non-booting drive is to follow the process detailed in the link below.  The Ubuntu operating system CD you create can run from the CD alone ( ie it doesn't have to install on the Hard Drive ) and I've often found it to be successful in retrieving data even from a failing Hard Drive.  When you've created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can back up your existing files.

  • Laptop destroyed - My Music only on iPod

My Laptop I use for iTunes was destroyed recently in an accident. I have all my music and videos on my iPod from my last sync. I'm trying to find out how to copy my last sync to the new install of iTunes on a new computer. Since I was not able to back up as the article on backing up iTunes Folder explains, is there a way to retrieve it all off the iPod in to iTunes like a reverse sync? Thanks for any help!

    Check out the instructions/suggestions here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method I've seen posted. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer.

  • How to generate specific traffic types for testing?

    Hi all.
Is there a good tool or tools (Windows-based) for generating and testing traffic through specific ports to a remote host?  I know what I am asking for but not sure how to put it into the right words, so here' s an example.  Normally in a situation where if I set up a router with some NAT and a zone firewall, and want to test whether the outside world can get to a web server internally, I would attach a real web server to the inside interface, set up the rules and policies to reach it, and then test from a laptop or PC attached in some way to the outside (Internet) inteface.
But I don't always have a web server to plug in, and this says nothing about other protocols I'd want to test.  For example ntp protocol on udp 123.
So ideally I would take two laptops and install the testing tool on each, plug one into the LAN and the other to the outside thus simuluating some random Internet host, and then they can talk to each other over any port or protocol they allow for and show the results.
Not sure why I can't seem to articulate this very well today but I hope I'm getting the idea across.  I'm not looking for a port scanner or something but rather a tool for testing end-to-end success of communication between two systems over an intermediiary device (router), over certain ports or protocols.
    Thank you!

I looked over quite a few in there, would still need to download and test.  Seems there are a lot of home grown tools by university engineers out there
Unfortunately iperf isn't Windows-based which is what I need for this scenario but it does look very intreesting in itself.
I did find that nmap has nping which employs an echo responder so hopefully it can do more than just icmp.  Nonetheless that whole list has very interesting tools which I'll review in more detail when time permits.
    Thank you!

  • Apple hardware test gives me this code:  4SNS/1/1C0000008:TN1D--124

    4SNS/1/1C0000008:TN1D--124
this is the code i get . I runned the test because my laptop is a macbook pro 13 2.4ghz mid 2010 with mac os x 10.6 and it is getting a reurrent problem that is that the fan starts to go faster than usual after 1 minute of starting up the laptop and the cpu load gets up to 99% of usage and the system becomes slow like the lag becomes extreme.
The laptop suffered a waterspill like 3 months ago but I got it fixed only  that the battery is no longuer working , not even a new one  i bought. Also a memory slot died and the microphone isnt working even if its new. I also got the dc in board replaced but the one i got was a 2008 model but seemd to be workign fine until last new years eve when it got back to the lag.
Can you tell me if its a faulty temperature sensor on the logic board that causes the fan to accelerate or as a laptop repair guy told me it is the hard drive. Could it be the hard drive? Would i get a hard drive kind of error if it was that? i doubt its the hard drive. the guy wanted to sell me a new hard drive so maybe he new what the problem is and wanted to make me think its he hard drive so i buy a new one from him.
If its some temp sensor then I dont get why i get a normal temperature reading using a program i got that measures it , it marks 38 Celsius, which seems normal temp to me.
Also the laptop is receiving 16.6 v at the dc in pin connectors after i checked it with a voltimeter.
So, what do you think the problem really comes from? Can it be repaired?
    thank you

Hi eww thank you for answering.
I have installed Istat pro and all temperature sensors measure ok ( Celsius )
    HD 30
    CPU 36
    Heatsink B :34
    NorthBridge: 29
    Are there anyother sensors.
    4SNS/1/1C0000008:TN1D--124
This message indicates the sensor that is wrong? I have no apple care. Where can i get someone tell me which sensor is wrong? I live in a small city ( Ensenada )north of mexico and there are no oficial apple repair specialists around here!
    Thank you !

  • Acpid vs dbus vs laptop-mode-tools - What's the relationship?

I disabled acpid from daemons, and uninstalled it, and to my surprise, the Suspend option still appears in the XFCE4 logout window, and when I open the lid the lappy comes right back. I had been under the impression that acpid was required for actions to take place on lid open/close. After a bit more research it appears that acpid is nothing more than a daemon that watches /proc and /sys for power and laptop related events, and that any daemon can do this, and in fact, cpufrequtils is such a daemon that just has a subset of events that it watches.
Then I noticed today that on my Arch that when I close the lid, my LCD brightness goes down, and I have to use the function keys to bring brightness back. If I don't have acpid or laptop-mode-tools installed, I assume that dbus is handling this dimming? Or the hardware BIOS?
Why isn't dbus handling things like AC adapter plugging and unplugging, and button events? Is there any reason to use acpid at all these days?

Confirmed that like pogeymanz, laptop-mode-tools really does nothing without acpid. I guess it will set some of the other static values for devices listed in /etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/ but that's it. Tested by setting laptop-mode-tools to change the cpu scaling governor to powersave on battery, disabling acpid and unplugging laptop, then running cpufreq-info. No change.
Then started acpid again from the init script, plug and unplug, now governor is powersave.
It appears that acpid is a hard dependency, and that package should really be changed to fix that. If you look at the file list, there are 6 scripts placed into /etc/acpi/events/
    etc/acpi/actions/lm_ac_adapter.sh
    etc/acpi/actions/lm_battery.sh
    etc/acpi/actions/lm_lid.sh
    etc/acpi/events/lm_ac_adapter
    etc/acpi/events/lm_battery
    etc/acpi/events/lm_lid
So laptop-mode-tools isn't even watching the acpid socket itself (/var/run/acpid.socket), and it relies solely on acpid to tell it about AC and lid status, so any configuration that you do in laptop-mode-tools that depends on checking for normal status changes on a notebook computer will fail to change anything without acpid installed and running.
