These apps cannot be accepted on this computer error

I am trying to update iPhoto and iMovie from versions 9.3 (iPhoto) and 9.0.5 (iMovie) to iPhoto 9.4.3 and iMovie 9.0.9. I keep on getting an error message that reads "These apps cannot be accepted on this computer. Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update." Well, software update just launches the App store. I have done extensive searching on forums and tried to delete the apps and run the updater like suggested, but it still does not work. There is also no option to "Accept" the applications in the Mac App Store.
I am running the latest version of OSX (10.8.4) and have never had problens updating before. I have a mid 2009 15' MBP and have been the only owner. My laptop came with iLife '09 and, as the very rude guy from apple support pointed out, I have never purchased iLife 11.. but have somehow been allowed to update through software update and the Mac App store (have never pirated the software, as the Apple tech suggested). I guess my question to you is:
1. Why is it suddenly giving me problems when I try and update the software and 2. How am I supposed to buy the software if I am only given the option to "Update." I would also love to know how I've been able to keep updating for this long without having to pay for iLife '11.
Thanks for your help.
Corey

There are problems with some of what you describe. iLife '09 was not Mac App Store (MAS) software. iLife '11 originally was also not MAS software. iLife '11 is a major paid upgrade from iLife '09 and Software Update (SU) would not have upgraded your iLife '09 to iLife '11.
iLife '11 did not transition to the MAS until after the MAS was issued to the public as beta software for OS X 10.6.6 in JAN 2011. After that, Apple began phasing boxed software out of their stores as the supply ran out and iLife was issued as 3 individual apps for $14.99; iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand, sold only in the MAS. The MAS cannot update the original boxed version of iLife '11. Those apps can only be updated through SU.
So the part of your story that doesn't work is how you got from iLife '09 to iLife '11. You did not get there through SU. And if the MAS is reporting that those apps must be updated through SU, they would be the original, none-MAS versions that came preinstalled on new Macs or as boxed software. Could you have transfered these iLife '11 apps from another Mac? A Mac that is newer than your own and would have had the boxed set versions of iLife '11 preinstalled?

  • These apps cannot be accepted on this computer?!??!

Hi, I just got a new Macbook Air and it started off with a minor issue with the Mac App Store. The Mac App Store notified me about an update for iPhoto. So I wanted to install this update but all I got was this error: "You have updates available for other accounts. To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it."
I did not buy these apps, they are pre-installed on the new Macbook Air. Then I deleted iPhoto, maybe I was able to install the app again from the App Store. Big mistake! The button in the App Store gives me 'Accept' and after that I got the same error.
Alright, then a more agressive approach. Deleted the disk and run Lion recovery. Macbook Air freshly installed, started up the Mac App Store, under purchased I have the iLife suite with a big Accept button! Seems good to me! But then, no installation, still got the 'Accept' button next to iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband. But now I'm getting this error after clicking Accept:
'These apps cannot be accepted on this computer. Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update.'
Okay, open up Software Update but there aren't any updates! So all I have now is a brand new Macbook Air without the iLife apps, iPhoto, iMovie and Garageband.
I contacted iTunes support via the support website. Got an e-mail back, long story short: contact technical support in your country. Aarrggh!
So I contacted technical support by telephone in the Netherlands. Was on the phone for 45 minutes and still no solution! The support guy was not able to correct this AppleID/App Store malfunction. He said that I have to contact iTunes/App Store support... yes, this is getting some sort of loop.
What is wrong and why can't I install these apps from the App Store?
Apple: please help me out this misery! This is some kind of error at the Mac App Store.

The answer was authorization codes.  It took three phone calls, several emails to Apple Tech support (after I purchased the $160 applecare plan) to get them.  Note, I had to call back after four days, the first Senior Advisor simply disappeared and refused to respond to emails or phone calls.  The next Senior advisor spent the weekend looking for the first advisor, then scheduled a phone call to tell me he would begin looking at the issue.  When I asked he specficially discounted the authorization codes:
"I don't know if issuing a redeem code for iPhoto is an appropriate resolution for your issue.  Since, I don't have the ability to issue any redeem codes for the Mac App Store, I am still waiting to hear back from Sean, the previous agent you were working with, regarding any status he has about your issue."
Three days after that...here are your codes.  Note a restart is necessary to properly get the iLife apps to update, now through the App Store.
Also, this is the second issue where I have lost contact with a Senior Advisor and had to restart the process. Standard procedure?

Hey there! So, I already contacted Mac App Store support several times, the response:
    - "Apple is currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available.
Thank you for your patience. Apple wants your iTunes experience to be as enjoyable as possible"
I answered I really needed it, and if they knew the estimated time it would take to solve the issue. Here's the last response.
    - "According to your previous correspondence, you have not been able to install iLife after reinstalling OS X Lion. I understand that this issue is under investigation, and that you would like to know the amount of time needed to find a resolution. As a fellow iTunes customer, I certainly understand that you need to use iPhoto for professional reasons, and I'll gladly help you to resolve this problem.
Unfortunately, I am unable to give you the exact amount of time this issue could take. I do assure you that our engineers are currently working towards a resolution. "

  • Trying to buy Imovie form App store and have the message: These apps cannot be accepted on this computer.     Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update. How to solve it?

I have a MBP form July 2011, upgraded to Lion 10.7.4. Last week I had to restore the OS.
I also bought some time ago Iphoto.
Today I wanted to install Imovie from App Store. Instead of the Buy bottom I found an Accept bottom and when I tryed to install I had the message:
These apps cannot be accepted on this computer.
Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update.
I looked for a solution and found a lot of questions about this error but not real answers to fix it.
Can you please let me know hoe to fix?

Your Mac should have had all three of the iLife apps pre-bundled with it; iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand. If your Mac came with Mac OS X Snow Leopard installed, then the apps should be on the Install DVD that came with your Mac, perhaps in a folder on the disc labeled bundled apps. After installing them, these apps would not be updated through the Mac App Store, but with Software Update.

I tried from Software Update but iPhoto doesn't show up at all.  It's not in my computer at all!
    HELP!

Reinstall it from the System Restore disks that came with your computer.

  • TS4373 For the error "These apps cannot be accepted on this computer. Future updates of these apps can be found through Software Update." is it basically saying delete the ones you have already PAID for, and PAY for these ones?

    What the ****?

No. It is saying that if you're running Mac OS X 10.7.5 or earlier, you need to get the updates for them from the Software Update pane of System Preferences and not the Mac App Store. If you're running Mac OS X 10.8, you'll get the updates through the Mac App Store, but they won't be recognized as purchases by it.

  • I updated my computer to the new software and now the iPhoto has a circle with a line through it.  When I try to update, it pops up to say "These apps cannot be accepted by your apple id". Then will say "update unavailable with this apple id" how do i fix

I updated my computer to the new software and now the iPhoto has a circle with a line through it.  When I first try to open it the pop us says: "You can't use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X. Version: 9.2.1"  When I try to update, it pops up to say "These apps cannot be accepted by your apple id - These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID and they will be available in that Apple ID's purchases list.  If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the application".  I checked and there is nothing under the "purchases" in my App store.  Then will say "update unavailable with this apple id - This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or canceled." Then the third pop up says "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store.  Please try again".  Just want to know how do to fix.

After I upgraded to Mavericks I was also having this message when I tried to update. There was a previous post about this problem which offered this simple solution which worked for me:

Got it! Thanx.  What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed.

  • I cannot found iLife app on my macbook pro and when i want to buying it i cannot and i have this massage (These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's P)

Either use the Apple ID you used when you originally purchased the applications or you will have to purchase them using your Apple ID. If you did not have the other Apple ID, then you have the applications illegally or they were improperly included with a computer you purchased from someone else.

  • These apps cannot be accepted by your Apple ID.

These aoos cannot be accepted by your Apple ID".

If new versions of iPhoto and the other iLife applications (iMovie and GarageBand) were purchased by the previous owner from the Mac App Store, then they will be locked to the previous owner's Apple ID and cannot be transferred to you. You will have to re-purchase them under your own Apple ID.
If this is an older MBA that came with Snow Leopard or an earlier version of Mac OS X, though, the system would have come with an installation disk that included the iLife applications, a disk which the seller should have provided to you. Those iLife applications would be older versions, of course, and may or may not work in Lion depending on how old they are.

  • "Mac OSX cannot be installed on this computer" Error

    What Mac/Specs:
I am trying to completely clear out and reformat a 13" MacBook Pro 2.26Ghz with the 250GB hard drive (mid-2010 version) which had been running Mountain Lion to its "factory" settings.
    Hurdle 1:
When I tried to reformat it I had the erase/partition options greyed out.  Duh- needed to use a different start up disk.
    Actions taken & Hurdle 2:
I then inserted the original disk (with OSX10.6) and started up with the C key held down but ended up getting the above error message "Mac OSX cannot be installed on this computer".
    Actions taken 2:
I tried to "backup from Time Machine" (as that was the only option I could click other than restarting) and managed to access the Disk Utillity that way.  I was then able to erase and re-partition the drive as Mac Extended Journaled and made sure that the S.M.A.R.T. verification was verified before I did so.
    Hurdle 3 (= Hurdle 2):
This got me to the point of having a clean slate but the error message persists.
    Question:
What can I do to move forward?  I do not want to reinstall Mountain Lion, I want to pass on the computer restored to its original factory settings.
    Please and thank you.

Sorry for the late update- I ended up checking the disks (I have two MacBook Pros bought two months apart) and tried the other one.  Turns out that though they were the same OSX (10.6.3 v1) they had different teeny serial numbers.
To answer BDAqua-  yes, it was the disk for the same MacBook Pro model but clearly not "same" enough.  And no- the disks had never been used.  Pleased to report that it is all sorted now, but wanted to thank you massively for your answer anyway.
    You had it in one!

I am a new mac user so there is a lot that I don't yet know or understand.  The previous owner did a clean re-install of lion and my air is covered under warranty till August.  We called apple when I bought it to make sure it wasn't stolen and registered it to me. I am just trying to be able to transfer my pictures from my iphone to my air.  I also want to set up icloud which looks like it requires iphoto. Also, what are the other iLife apps?  I have a feeling I will encounter the same issues with those. Thanks for your help.
