This is my story ...

This is my first experience with apple and it's so disappointing.. I went to buy the ipad with a friend...
First thing I did is to update to ios 6 while my friend did nothing (ios 5)... when we met I toughet that there is something wrong with my ipad because he had no problems surfing my wifi at home while with my ipad it kept working for a minute and thats it.
So I want to the store again to replace my damaged ipad... of course that the wifi in the store was somehow "ok" with the ipad and everything seemed to be fine ... until I took the store manger the to the  nearst coffee house to try to explain myself for 3 hours ( was successful in the end  got a new piece) .
Later on I realized that everything was ok with the original ipad... it's only the new IOS 6 that need to be replaced
Anyway today my brother played with the ipad while I was gone... and unfourtntlly he updated the ios.
I really wanted to kill him but I don't blame him.
I am so disappointed ... for now my ipad is just a really expensive tray.

Your story is a bit confusing and no wonder you have not had a reply despite 11 viewings. Avoid the rant and be more specific as to what your problems are!
So, you bought a new iPad, presumably iPad 3 with iOS 5 which you updated to iOS 6. Correct? The update would not damage it, although you could have problems with it. You got it exchanged for another iPad3 with iOS 5 which you did not update initially. Correct? Then your brother updated it to iOS 6 without your permission. YES, do blame him!
Now, what happened after that update? What are the problems? Can you connect to the Internet? Can you set up mail?

  • HT1414 4s iOS 6.1.3 issues. Life is sucky. This is my story

Dear Reader, Tech Support, or forum Troll,
About a month ago my iPhone 4s underwent a new software update known as iOS 6.1.3.  This update was ‘highly’ recommended (more like enforced if you ask me) by iPhone’s mothership, Apple.
Well, since the update, my iPhone 4s has never been the same again. In fact, he (yes it’s a he, so what) has become extremely pitiful and has been showing visible symptoms of mild retardation, amongst other things.
I have tried to seek therapy from Dr. iTunes, but not even a complete brainwash via restoration has fixed any of these problems.
I have thought about calling Apple and confronting the mothership about all the issue, but I’m scared because I know they will demand that I pay first.  You see, they threw me to the curb and abandoned me about 6 months ago due to ‘expirational warranty issues’, whatevs.
So I am writing this forum, whic is on Apple's site (yes awkard I know)  in hopes for some help on the iphone issues, but if you feel the urge to let me know that expirational is not a word, tha'ts cool too.
You see, I sit here in front of my computer, with a hot cup of coffee and a useless white rectangular box, and I have feelings of bitterness.
I wouldn’t have been in this predicament if it wasn’t for Apple’s constant nagging of this new software update that I needed to install if I truly loved and cared for my iPhone. It was made quite clear to me that if I chose not to install it, I would run the risk of exposing iphone to security lock screen risk issues, (whatever that means). I know that anyone in my situation would have done the same; I love my iPhone and that lock screen thing sounded scary.
So here is how the update turned my once cute iPhone into a crazy psycho phone.
iPhone refuses to power off unless connected to the charger.  I found out about this rebellious behavior on an airplane when iPhone refused to listen to the flight attendant after she asked him to power off. Apparently iPhone thought it was fun to play peak-a-boo by powering on right after I powered it off. Do you have any idea how  terrified I was when iphone wouldn't stay off? Our plane could have broken down,  but thankfully it didn't.
Since the update, iPhone has become incoherent at least a few times a day;  iit's like he's trying to find himself?! There is a constantly searching for a network or refusing to partake in any network at all. I pay a lot of money every month so iphone can be happy and live about freely in the At&t network. Hey At&t has been good to us. Before this update, we had no issues in our network but now, not even a sim card change can keep iphone content. I've accepted the fact that there will be several times during the day that I will be sending "not delivered !" text messages and that I will have missed calls wtithout ever actually missing calls.
Then we have this game iphone likes to play called silence.  He rings when he gets phone calls (when he decides to be in network) and whistle when he gets a text.  But as soon as I to play music, or watch a video,  nothing. I know to use the headphone-chord plug-and-pull technique, but why do I have to resort to that?  I don’t always carry headphones with me, you know.
And if all that that wasn’t enough, this crazy phone gives up on life way too early. Between 20-30% battery life, he dies, but I know it's all a front because as soon as I plug it up to the charger, it's right back at 20% or wherever it left off before the ‘charge me’ warning cry is displayed. .
    I can’t take this anymore.
    I now have anger issues.
It cost me $400 to bring iPhone 4s 32gig into my life. And a year and a half later its gone crazy.
I’m not blaming iPhone for its uselessness, ipad died on me too; got her this past December and 4 months into it, drama queen decides to go into a comatose state for no reason. Knowing that there was no ‘expirational issues’ there I took ipad to Apple’s mother ship and was told that I would have to pay to replace her. Really? NO
I now have, not one, but two malfunctioning Apple products, one semi-useless and one completely useless one.
Apple, if you are lurking around reading this, this section is dedicated to you.
I have been loyal to you and your family of gadgets for years. It was love at first sight when I was introduced to 3gs, and yearh I know it was selfish of me to dump 3gs for 4, but 4 was just so much more prettier, and different.
And then comes the arrival of 4’s much smarter and faster twin a year later. Well played Apple, well played.
I know I was easily influenced by your products; I don’t claim to be perfect and recognize that I have self-control issues when it comes to shiny sparkly objects, but nonetheless, I have always taken great care of each one of those phones. I have always flaunted the service I received when I'd drive over an hour to come to the Apple store. But all that changed 6 months ago when I came crying to you to to help me fix the volume button that just decided to stop working out of the blue.  Remember what you had your people say to me? probably not.  Well let me remind you, I was told that I was no longer entitled to your help because it was 9 days past my warranty expiration date.
Well I can only take so much iPhone and iPad abuse.
It is with sincere regret that I have decided to slowly start packing my chargers and accessories and leave this fruit dominated world.  I don’t know where this path will take me, perhaps oh a space ship to a new Galaxy run by little aliens.
But, being that spaceship airfare is too expensive when purchased out of season, I have no choice but to hang around fruit world for another 6 months.
So for the love of technology, someone, anyone,  PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SN: I have lost all my apps and music after my restore and backup. cute, very cute.

A good read. Have you done anything at all to resolve your problem. Reset? Restore?
By the way - "your products"... nobody here produced the iPhone, we are all just users. Apple is not here.

  • This is my story - Error 12

Hello, i got an 8month old iphone 5, just upgraded to ios 7 and it was great. After 2 days i lost my service provider. Usually for all sorts of problems, all i do is restore from a back up but this time it won't finish restoring and always gets error 12. I've done it to 3 different macs and all with the same error. Did anybody experience this?  Im from the Philippines with a unlock iphone from Singapore.
Thank you for your time :)

People have tried to help you, but as you can see, some have not heard of an error 12 before, so if people do not understand what is going on, then it is impossible to give more help so you need to look elsewhere.
If you are still having problems with no solution, then why not book a Genius appointment at your local Apple store and go there.

  • Sorry, your Story Free subscription does not allow access to this application. Please upgrade your s

I started using Story a few months ago.  While writing a script (very proud of it's potential) I was past page 20 I believe, to my own demise I only backed it up around page 9 using a word document.  My Hard Drive died and had to be replaced.  While trying to save all my files before I took it to the apple store I went to grab my adobe story file and couldnt.  So, I tried to log in and got this "Sorry, your Story Free subscription does not allow access to this application. Please upgrade your subscription."  I went to the online-version and my story was not there.  Thus, I am very angry that I lost my script because out of the blue my subscription no longer allowed me to use Adobe Story on my Macbook Pro.
Nevertheless, I have been unsuccessfully trying to re-open Adobe Story on my newly restored HD and I still get the same message.
If you could help me with what needs to be done, that would be swell.
    Thanks.

Yup I was working on my script on Adobe Story, without problems, I was
unable to retrieve the file to save it.  My Hard Drive has since been
erased and now I am working on a new HD.
I did re-install CS6.  All my other Adobe programs work.  The online
version of Story seems to work but every time I sign in using my Adobe ID
it gives me that message. :/  The thing is I never had a subscription so im
quite confused why it's telling me my subscription no longer allows me to
use Story without upgrading and spending oodles of money.
    Thanks!

  • This is not a rant, but it's close.

I will be careful not to rant, but I must summon the strength.
Instead, I want to continue to share my ongoing nightmare difficulties with Verizon HSI, Verizon customer service, and Tech Support.
For the previous two years, I was blissfully using Verizon HSI at the 7mb tier with no problems.  I won't go into how it had a messy start (wrong pricing, web offer hand doesn't know what the phone offer hand is doing, etc).
There were some uptime issues due to some bad copper pairs, but overall the past two years were okay.
Little did I know that my move to a house one block away would start me on a path of frustration and despair.
If you are so inclined, you can read about the initial move debacle here.
To summarize, I needed to move my service to a different home in the same subdivision, but was forced to go through the entire application process for the new home, as if I was a new customer.  After spending more than an hour on the phone the first try, all I (unknowingly) ended up with was a disconnect order for the old service.  I called back a second time and finally got an install order, but the install was to be several days after the promised date from the first (failed) call.  Customer reps on this forum were not able to expedite the second install order, though I appreciated the attempt.
This background info is important for a couple reasons.  First and foremost, I gave my credit card info over the phone to Verizon reps for both install attempts.  I gave them a credit card I rarely use.  Coincidentally(?), within a couple days, the card was being used for fraudulent purchases at Itunes and Walmart.com.  Luckily, the card company was able to recognize the fraud early, and cut it off.  Now, I know that is a serious accusation to make, but I stand by it.  That card was tucked safely away for years, with no problems.  Then, within a couple days of giving the number to two Verizon reps over the phone, it starts being used fraudulently.  Not cool, obviously.  I'll let the reader decide if I'm being paranoid.
Now, that's not where the fun ends.  Since the install, my internet service has been absolutely horrible.  The DSL connection to the Verizon Central Office has been beautifully solid, but my internet keeps dropping intermittently.  (Let me sneak in a complaint that Verizon will only give me the 3mb tier at the new house, though it is only a block away from the old house that had the new 10mb tier available).
I put a trouble ticket in the second day after the install complaining about slow service and the dropouts.  I must have dialed the magical support number, because I spoke to an American who immediately accepted my complaint and filed the ticket.  I say that, because I got a diffent call center, when I call later.   While the speed issue improved, the dropouts did not, and I was going to have to call again.  As a tech myself, I know how difficult it is to troubleshoot an intermittent problem.
So....two days ago, it went down hard, and would not come back up.  Remember, the DSL connection is solid, it's the internet that is gone.
Since I have a dryloop with VOIP, and I don't get cell service at the house, I had to walk a block to a public phone to call in my trouble ticket.  Unfortunately, I ended up getting the call center in the Philippines.  I have no ill will toward hardworking folks in any country, but foreign call centers are so tightly beholden to the scripts, that is virtually impossible to reason with them, person to person.  He insisted I go call him from my house, so he could trouble shoot the modem.  I explained that I had done the common sense reboots, I had removed the router from the equation, and the DSL connection was solid; there was nothing I could do from my end.  He refused to escalate my complaint, because I wouldn't  (and couldn't from the pay phone), log in to the modem, to "check the settings".   I explained the my settings were fine, because everything was working, before the dropouts.  Common sense dictated that the problem was not on my end.  Even the copper pair was good, because the DSL connection was solid.
Anyway, he ended up promising to transfer me, but just kept me on hold, indefinitely, until I hung up.
So, I walked back to my house, borrowed the neighbor's cell phone (with a different carrier that has coverage in my house), and dialed back.  His cell is  a prepaid phone, that I ended up using an hour's worth of time on hold, and pushing through the worthless steps that proved what I already told them.
Finally, I was transferred to stateside support, where they transferred me to an actual technician.  He quickly realized I knew what I was talking about, so quickly asked if he could work it from his end and called me back.  Much can be said for sharing a culture with your tech rep.  Things are more easily understood through nuance.  I happily agreed to wait for a call, and had to hold my neighbor's cell hostage for a while longer.
He called back to state that while troubleshooting, he found that I was the victim of a router outage, and he was just learning that others were affected.  He said techs should have it up and running in four hours.  By now, this is almost the whole day, with no internet, a week after installation, in addition to the frequent intermittent outages.  He apologized, but I was relieved that my complaint was validated, and seemed to be on the road to correction.
The connection did come up within a few hours, and everything seemed fine.  Then, the next afternoon (yesterday), it went down hard again.  DSL connection was still solid.   I grabbed the neighbor's cell, and received an automated message stating my complaint was ongoing.  I opted to speak to a Philippines rep, anyway.  He told me  (for the first time) that a tech was scheduled to see me the next day (which is now today, Saturday).   It was an "all day" appointment, which meant I have to be here all day.  I was dumbfounded.  How can a bad router at Verizon's Central Office require a visit to my home?  I hung up confused, but relieved my ticket was still open.
This morning, the internet is back, though I don't know for how long.  I've been copying and pasting this complaint to wordpad as I go, so it's not lost, if my internet drops.
I have a very different IP than I've ever had before, so I suspect I won't see a tech at my door anytime soon.  No doubt it was a router that HOPEFULLY has been replaced.
I am really spent.  I have dim hopes this long winded story can do some good, because I know big companies can be way too clumsy to make positive changes quickly.
I hope my internet connection stays up.  One more debacle, and I'll just have to switch to Comcast.  I mean, how much does one customer have to put up with?
It's not supposed to be this difficult.

    Thank you for the reply.
I realize Comcast is far from perfect, and I'm going for the lesser of evils, here.
The lesser evil is the one I can actually rely on.
I would not agree that I've been treated with respect.  Oh, they're polite alright, (except for the one who put me on terminal hold).  However, beneath the illusion of politeness, the geographically and culturally-removed call center people are simply whacking moles.   I realize they are answering phones for hours, and are doing the best they can under the circumstances.  That is why I do my best to not use them as a target of my frustration.  At the same time, I want to convey how fed up I am with the system.
In the old days, you called in a problem, and you'd eventually get a tech to come out and talk to you, face to face.  He would explain what actions were being taken, and the customer was reassured that ACTUAL work was being done to correct the problem.  You'd at least get feedback over the phone that made you feel like real people are taking real action.  I'm tired of the scripted "I'm sorry to hear that..."
I am half tempted to sully the copper pair connection at the terminal, to get a real tech at the door.
The feeing I get talking to the call center is a surreal sense of paralyzation.  I'm trying to move my arm, but it won't budge.  I start vocally telling the arm to move, and it replies "Expect a result within 48 hours."     Seriously, it's like I might as well be calling AT&T to report this problem about my Verizon DSL.    It is that effective!
My internet was down again, last night, from 4:30pm to 6:00 am, EST. (This is my window of opportunity to check this forum and research Comcast's offerings).
This is after repeated assurances that "everything has been fixed."
Calling in another trouble ticket gets me the "it will be addressed within 48 hours" line.  Well, hey, I've been waiting a lot longer than that, already.  The only concession I got for my frustration is a credit for one month of service.  At least I have that.
The struggle for reliable internet continues...

  • Success story: NVIDIA 8600M GT graphics card defect repaired at no cost

This is the story of Apple servicing my MacBook Pro with the NVIDIA graphics card defect.
I had the NVIDIA 8600M GT graphics card defect in my 2 year old MacBook Pro. The symptoms were pinkish images, scrambled and chopped images, and finally leading to no video, all within a matter of 3 days. I called AppleCare using the old number I remembered from my 100mhz Mac days: 1-800-SOS-APPLE. I was greeted by a real person within 3 minutes. She explained that my 90-day complimentary phone service had expired some 600 days ago.
After I mentioned the specific Apple Knowledge base article that described the defect (TS2377), and that it was covered up to three years out of warranty, she transferred me to a MacBook Pro specialist. Sheri ran me through several standard resets and reboots. She then suggested that it be taken into an Apple store for a genius to look at. When I explained that the nearest Apple Store was an hour away, she arranged for a mail-in service.
After the call had ended, I received a simple email with her phone number so that I could contact her if I needed to. Another automated email contained my repair case number and a link to check the status online. The online status center is very easy to use. It displayed three steps: Sending the empty box, service in progress and return. FedEx tracking numbers were included with working links.
The next day an empty box arrived, completely with graphical IKEA like packaging instructions and form fitting foam for my MacBook Pro. I knew when the FedEx truck came around, so I had my computer ready by my side. As soon as FedEx showed up, I explained that the empty box was for the computer and Marcos helped me apply the pre-paid return label and taped the box expertly with tape from his truck. I also placed in the box a copy of the Apple Knoweldge base article and pictures I had taken of the issue.
Apple had included a small stack of super adhesive pre-cut tape square, but Macros was already taping it before I figured out what they were. The return label was also pre-paid with overnight service.
The next day I logged into the online support status at Apple.com and checked my status. The tracking number showed it had arrived in Houston, and the three steps had been updated to "Repairs completed" and "Return in progress."
The return FedEx tracking number was displayed later in the evening, and it showed that it was guaranteed to arrive by 10:30AM the next day. Speedy service! Sure enough, the next day I had my computer back in my hands, all data perfect and intact. I was very worried since I was not able to make a back up before sending it in, and Apple does not guarantee data safety. Apple had replaced the logic board, valued at $700 on iFixit (http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Core-2-Duo-2-2-GHz-Logic -Board/IF185-073).
The funny thing is, for the past 5 years, I have always cloned my drive or used time machine, but for the past two months I had cleared the backups to make up extra room on my externals. You really never know when disaster will strike!
    Learned:
    - Apple Customer Care is top notch, speedy and their status site is very easy to use
    - FedEx service was very helpful
    - If you have a NVIDIA graphics card, Mac or PC, check if your model is affected. Just today Sony announced that NVIDIA cards with defects will now be covered for 4 years out of warranty. (http://news.cnet.com/8301-13924_3-10307592-64.html)
    - Back up your stuff NOW. Use a flash drive or email files to yourself for a cheap fix.
    Roland

    ha
got the same problem with my mbp (dec 2007)
also no video within 5 hours .... also no external video.
lucky i had screen sharing on so i could check the system profiler via an other mac.
It couldn't find the 6800M GT anymore...
did another backup and went to the local apple store
took a print out of Apple Knowledge base article that described the defect (TS2377)
and they replaced the logicboard+gpu for free within 10 days ...
everything is ok now except for my maxmsp copy which thinks it runs on an other machine and complains about a missing licence ....

  • Why this broken c++ code works?

I'm testing some flascc code, and I'm trying to trow some errors, but it seems that my tests just return NULL or zero, and never stop the execution, and I think this is not desired.
    For example:
    Error *errorClass = NULL;
    int myVar = errorClass->foo();
I think this should trow an error while calling a function of a NULL pointer but it's not the case.
Also, I've tried some divisions by zero, and there is no error, just returns 0

This doesn't have to crash unless you try to access the attribute of your Error object in Error::foo().
This is not against the c++98 standard (haven't verified), but this code will also run on vanilla gcc.
Method code are almost like normal function, but they are given the object as a "this" parameter so it can works on its attributes.
So let's say that in Error::foo() you do this : printf("hello world)
What your code do is the equivalent of
         void foo(Error * this){
              std::cout << "hello world" std::endl;
         int main(){
              foo(NULL);
              return 0;
This code won't crash, but as soon you try to access the attribute this is another story. So, it really depend on what you do in Error::foo().
For the zero division, the standard left this as an undefined behavior. So it's perfectly normal, on some compiler/architecture it will crash, on others not. It's left to the compiler implementation as to what should happen.
So nothing in what you say should cause the program to crash, it might, but it might not, it isn't a bug, it's just undefined in the standard.
You should manually check for error, C++ is way more low level than AS3 it won't stop you from shooting yourself in the foot, but that's also one of the reason why it is so flexible and performant.

  • My desktop App for Story  has malfunctioned and I am no longer able to access the files that were on it, how do I save those documents and reinstall the app?

I have a Story + desktop app for Adobe on my hard drive and it was supposed to sync up to my online app (or cloud) however it never did and now I cannot access my desktop app, nor the important files that were on it.
__I.E. when I try to press the [Sign In] button, nothing happens.
So I figured to find those files elsewhere, copy them somewhere safe then try re installing the app again.  However, I cannot find those files anywhere on my hard drive.

Adobe Story stores its local files on the following location:
    On Windows,
    1. Open Windows Explorer and type '%appdata%' in the address bar
    2. Make a copy of 'com.adobe.AdobeStory.<some-number>' folder. This folder contains Story's local data.
    On Mac,
    1. Open Finder.
    2. From 'Go' Menu, open 'Go to folder'
    3. Type '~/Library/Preferences' and hit enter
    4. Make a copy of 'com.adobe.AdobeStory.<some-number>' folder. This folder contains Story's local data.

  • My story of HDCP-troubles ATV3, still unsolved!

I had my ATV3 working just fine, streaming national TV directly from my Ipad with airplay, and even streaming movies from my Imac, with the app Air Video that let me start & stop everything with my Ipad. I was lucky and finally I found a topclass solution, and I don't need to burn dvd:s anymore. I reached my goal. Yippie!
Without changing my setup at all, suddenly after 5 month it just stopped working, and probably I get to see the first 3-6 seconds of the movie, then it freeze. Trying to play again, and the error-messege "The contain need to be supported by HDCP" appear on the screen. (My TV support HDCP)
Hello!?!?! It worked just fine for 5 months as it was. I really tried everything to solve the problem. Expensive highspeed cables, changning the inputs, updated my router, tv and everything else. Reset the system a thousand times. But NO! Just the 3-6 seconds of streaming and then it stops, telling me about the HDCP, that my supports. It wont work even with my ATV3 connected by networkcable to my router (I prefer cables).
If I connect my Ipad directly to my TV through an HDMI-adapter, exactly the same files works just fineto play. But Hey... What's the function about having an ATV, if you cant stream content to it?? It seems like this problem is escalating around our globe, and no-one, even Apple, seems to understand what is wrong... :-(
Listen to this then: Finally I was able to borrow a another ATV3 from a friend, with the same firmware. And guess what. It was working again! Gosh... It is something wrong with the hardware in my unit I thought, and I returned it to the store, with a long letter describing the problem.
After 1 month, I received a new unit from Apple, and I was really nervous hooking it up in my home.
1, 2, 3 , 4, 5, 6.... Freeze! Again! Even with the new unit! Start to get really tired about this and that it seems that there's no solution. Hey. It worked here for 5 months. Frankly. Nobody knows, so I send it back now, once again... :-(
Still... My friends ATV3-unit with the same firmware working just fine here in my setup.
You out there. The first one that come up with a solution to this "Twillight Zone Story" get some reward of some kind! ;-)
APPLE. What is wrong here ???

Thanx Rudegar. I posted my story to Apple at the same time. We'll see.
The strange stuff is that is that I'd come to the conclusion that some of their units have some major trouble with the handshaking of the HDCP-Protocoll. My first unit that was working fine for 5 Months on my big major Samsung TV, suddenly stopped, as I described here above. But it actually was working fine when I hooked it up on a cheap 20" LG Screen.
Do not forget that at the same time, my friends unit (with the same firmware) was working just fine on my big Major Samsung. And the fact that the same file and movies plays just fine, if i hook it upp with cablel direct to my TV. ATV is isolated as the bad guy.
Crazy & Strange... We''ll see when I get it back here again. I'll try your tip regarding to restore the firmware connected to my Imac.
Maybe, I now get the chance to include a brand new 72" TV in the familybudget.... ;-)

  • My story so far...

    Hello,
This is my story: I got my first ever Mac in July 2009, I was excited and couldn't wait for it to arrive. I was totally new to the system then, I had only ever touched a Mac once in my life at PC World, and that was only for a minute. So, I got my Mac, set everything up and I was exploring on the new things I could do. Then the problems started...
I started to get beachballs every few minutes due to a hard drive issue, as I read on here. I had never seen the beachball before until then. I rang Apple Support and they suggested to remove my preference files, caches, run permissions check, run hardware test etc. I asked about what I would have to do if the system needed to be repaired, they said you'll have to take it to an ASP. What the heck? When my Toshiba breaks down, next day I get a DHL van on my door to collect my laptop, and these guys want me to take it to them?!?. Obviously, I'm not happy. The deletion of the preferences had made the problem a bit better, but I still kept on getting beachballs every now and then. I decided to reinstall as I had nothing to lose. The problem was still there, but it was very infrequent, then it just stopped altogether. Then came Snow Leopard...
I got my Snow Leopard copy on launch day and did an upgrade as I didn't want to do a clean install. I was impressed at first, until I timed the boot up times, boot times were slower than Leopard. I also got beachballs more often and it didn't feel as fast. RAM usage is also pretty high, with only 1.5GB/4GB free after bootup. Now today, I woke up to even more horror, my time had reset, my firewall had reset, my keychain wasn't working properly, and everything was so slow.
Now, remember, this is my first Mac. And so far, my experience hasn't been the best of experiences.
Right now, at this point, I just feel like giving up the Mac switchover and moving back to Windows. I really don't wanna do this. So I'm asking you, what can I do to fix these problems? I don't want to reinstall because Time Machine won't let me backup to a FAT hard drive.

Good, but, they could have done more.

This is good news since you decided to move on to Sno.

Unfortunate. Did you make any preparation for moving to Sno such as making a bootable clone on you Leo install on an external drive?
For now, I would try [resetting your SMC|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411]. Then, not everything or nothing probably will be fixed. You, then, in all likelihood will need to [reset your PRAM and NVRAM|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US].
Right now, at this point, I just feel like giving up the Mac switchover and >moving back to Windows.
There is no reason to take such drastic action yet. You'd be better off to work with Sno and install some Version of Windows on your machine using Boot Camp.

  • 11.3 upgrade from 11.2.4MU1 horror story (almost)

This is a story and question. I'll state my question/issue first.
After the 11.2.4SP1, I had to manually copy some files from a temporary server I installed 11.2.4MU1 onto my production box because zman wouldn't run without throwing Java.class errors. When I ran ZDC, it showed a lot of files not present, so that's when I copied the files and everything was A-OK.
I also see issues regarding %ZENworksHOME%\conf files not being accessible even though they are present, and some files in \share\tomcat
This leads me to last night
Last night I started the upgrade, then went to do some other tasks. At some point the server was restarted. I didn't think that was a good sign. Anyway, ZENworks Loader wouldn't start, so I ran the ZDC for 11.3. I see the same issue with \conf and \share\tomcat. This time, some of the \share\tomcat WERE actually missing.
I tried running the install twice more. Same thing. I install 11.3 on a temporary machine, copied \share\tomcat from temporary to new. I fixed permissions on \conf again, and \share\tomcat. I set them to Everyone along with SYSTEM and Administrators. I was missing a bunch of \install\downloads\MSI as well, so copied them from a temporary machine.
I ran through the install one last time. Everything completed without error. Now, everything is up and running, but when running ZDC again, the \conf files are showing as MISSING. Again.
Also, the Audit database is shows several hundred tables missing and the ZEN DATABASE is showing to NC_PruningLog tables errors.
I'm not sure what functionality I'm missing. Clients are updating to 11.3. The ZCC seems intact and Patch Management starting Updating Cache when told.
I'd say the first failed upgrade was caused by something outside of the upgrade, but what is up with all the permissions issues and missing files?

  • Scene numbering in Adobe Story

Have you noticed that scene numbers only show up in the left margin in Adobe Story?
Do you see a compelling reason for us to show scene numbers on both the left and right margins in Adobe Story?
Would you find it useful to have the scene number on both the left and right margins like FinalDraft does by default? Or, can you live without this?

No one responded that they didn't want scene numbers on the right.  That doesn't mean they don't want them and that they shouldn't be there.  One other person did say there should be scene numbers on the right.  If it's standard industry practice I don't understand why it's not there.
Other issues at the top of my head:
Lack of fonts.  I want to be able to use different fonts for the titles on the title page.  Other screenwriting software allows use of any font installed on the computer.
The title page uses the same page layout as the rest of the script.  This forces the text too far to the right on the title page, and the copyright info and contact info butting up against each other at the bottom.  Final Draft has a different page layout for the title page than the rest of the script so we can really customize our title pages.  This is minor, but still something that was giving me difficulty to the point that I'd have to create the title page in a different document or even a different app.
I started another thread that hasn't been responded to about scene headings being left on a preceding page by themselves.  For example, I start a new scene on the bottom of a page.  The only room left on the bottom of the page is enough for the scene heading but not for even just one paragraph of action for that scene.  The action falls to the next page, but the scene heading is still left on the previous page.  This goes for new scripts and imported scripts from Final Draft.  I don't see any options in the preferences or template settings to fix this, and this makes Adobe Story unusable.  This is a big problem.
I don't want to use the online features and don't want my scripts ending up on a server.  However, if I go online all of my offline scripts are all automatically synced online.  I want software that allows me to keep my scripts on my computer and only on my computer.  Someone could hack Adobe's server and download scripts.  It's intellectual property and I'm very protective of it.  There should be an option to turn off syncing, even if status is online.  This is another big one.
There's a lot of great features with Adobe Story, but certain things will prevent a lot of writers from wanting to use it, especially when there's other software without those issues.  I'll keep my eye on it, but right now I'm perfectly happy with Final Draft.
I have a great suggestion though... take a good look at the outlining/summary and scene writing features of Mariner Software's Montage.  I wish Final Draft had that feature.  Montage could do a little better job of implementing it, but it's a very cool feature.  You write your outine in the screenwriting app, and then write the scene within each outline sequence.  You can disable or enable specific sequences or scenes, move them around, etc.  It's the best and most unique feature of that software, but unfortunately the software is buggy and hasn't been updated in a few years.  Something like that would make me switch.  You have to offer something very unique and compelling to unseat the industry standard.

  • Cannot install Story: Installer misconfigured.

I cannot update story. I also don't have an uninstaller for ther app. I also could not install it by downloading it again, since I received the error message:
This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured. Please contact the application author for assistance.

    a) You will have to first uninstall the installed version of Story.
If you are using a Windows machine, then you can uninstall it from Control Panel.
If you are using a Mac then
         - go to the 'Applications' folder,
         - move the 'Adobe Story' app to Trash.
         - and also delete the application from Trash.
    b) Then download the latest installer from this location: https://story.adobe.com/AIR/AdobeStory.air
    c) Double click on the downloaded file to install it.

  • Cannot access Adobe Story Free through any browser.

    Hi,
I cannot log in to Adobe Story Free using any web browser on my home PC workstation, however I have no problems logging in to Adobe Story Free using any web browser on my work PC laptop or any other Mac or PC.
So I suspect it's not an Adobe CC account issue, but rather a local issue with corrupted settings on my home PC...? I have tried deleting browsing history, cache, cookies etc. but problem still remains in all web browsers.
I need urgent help to fix this please.
Adobe CC Subscription (Student and Teacher)
Home PC Workstation: Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit
Browser Issues: Google Chrome, Firefox, IE - all hanging on a blank page after I sign in with my username and password.

I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Adobe Flash player...didn't fix the problem.

...I can confirm that Flash Player Version 17.0.0.134 is installed successfully on Firefox (V37.0.1) IE (v10.0.9200.17267) & Chrome (v 41.0.2272.118 m)
...I can also confirm that "Adobe Flash" is enabled on story.adobe.com (as shown above)
However I still can't get into Adobe Story.
    I can see this screen:
    Adobe Story | Scriptwriting software
Then I click on Sign In which takes me to this page:
    Sign in - Adobe ID
Then when I enter my Adobe CC username and password, the page just hangs (blank white) in Firefox & Chrome, & an error message in IE
Edit: Here's something new. I can log into Adobe Story Free on Firefox only (using my work Adobe ID = [email protected]) but not using my home Adobe ID. Is there an account issue maybe after all? Still doesn't explain not working in Chrome or IE though.
