This is what counts for support these days?

my post:
"sometimes the messaging app crashes. pic
sometimes a message gets received, but the light doesn't blink.
wifi disconnects and won't reconnect until i turn wifi off and then back on, or reboot the phone.
sometimes the walkman app just stays there, blank. pic
the contact list, while sorted, does not categorize by initial letter for greek names. They all appear under the category '#'
when playing sound, notifications, music, whatever, the playback is choppy. very choppy.
it plays for a fifth of a second, has a gap, then does a pop, another gap and finally continues with the sound. Especially when listening with headphones this is very annoying. Also dangerous, because no matter what level you've set the volume, the clicks and pops always are LOUDER than the maximum volume allowed. pic. Notice that the initial pop is 8 dB louder in one channel and more than 12 dB louder than the notification itself for the right channel.
especially the last one, i consider very important. If you are not convinced, i have more pics, recordings and oscilloscope measurements."
screenshots, measurements...
And the typical reply from the support forum:
"try to repair ur 4n.."
no "that's interesting, we'll look into it" no "do you have more measurements?" no "do this and give us the output so we have more information". nothing.
i just want to voice my frustration
if anyone in an appropriate position replies with something meaningful, i will eat my shoe.

johan
right now i am absolutely livid with all of you. I will explain why, later
Johan wrote:
I'm sorry to hear that.
this stance infuriates me even more. most of your responses are "we are 'sorry' you are having issues. have you tried a hard reset?" Do you know why on the show The IT Crowd, the 'solution' "have you tried turning it off and on again" is used as a running joke?
Could you post some examples of which characters you use that do not sort properly in the phone book and I will try to replicate this.
use the greek alphabet to insert them. they all appear under '#' in the phonebook. The forum does not allow me to write these characters in the post. why, i have no idea.
Do you use STAMINA mode? That can disable the notification LED for some applications.
no. It sometimes happens, sometimes not. As you can imagine, very difficult to observe.
Please share more information about the audio problems. Do you get this if the audio files is saved on internal memory or SD card, or both?
doesn't matter anymore. If you were following recent events you would have concluded that the pops and gaps i am referring to are a known issue. Supposedly fixed in 4.4.4.
About Wi-Fi. Do you experience this independent of router you've tried to connect to? Have you tried any router reboot or reset? Which network mode do you run, B,G,N? Which Wi-Fi channel do you use?
it fixes itself when i reboot the phone. take a guess what this means.
Try running Wi-Fi analyzer and set your router to the least occupied channel.
bad advice. for at least two reasons.one, you can't be sure that wifi analyzer will not interfere with the wifi driver in some way altering the results and two, under normal conditions the only channels that should be used are specific. IIRC 1 5 and 9.
also irrelevant because i tested it with the phone right next to the router's antenna. it's an issue with the driver.
So far the only times i know it has happened, is while watching youtube. It may have happened other times as well, but i can not now because from what i remember youtube is the only data intensive program i am using. I try to watch a video and it buffers all the time. I investigated and found that pinging the phone from elsewhere and pinging elsewhere from the phone exhibits the behaviour i showed in the pic. Turning wifi off and back on on the phone doesn't fix it. Rebooting the phone fixes it. Rebooting the phone every time this happens is not a viable workaround. changing the wifi protocol is not a viable workaround. Router can not be at fault, none of the other six devices (three laptops, two phones, one sbc) ever had an issue.
I'm sorry to hear that you feel like the you only get replies saying repairing the software, but its important to know that it can sometimes be the only option for fixing a problem.
i had already tried it. it's the first thing i try ever since the first android phone i had. It very rarely works. In fact, i do not remember the last time it worked. I asked a friend of mine, equally experienced, said he only once in his life had a problem go away with a hard reset, intermittent hard freezes with an xperia pro.

  • THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME

For hours I tried clicking back and forth from something else in iTunes back to the "iPhone" hoping to reconnect; that didn't work it! After five hours of clicking back and forth (as other users suggested) I decided to browse the iTunes store and after I looked at everything "AS SOON" as I clicked "iPhone" it began to restore the back-up. So I guess Apple wants to see if you are interested in spending all your money with their enticing iPhone enhancement apps that should have came with the original iPhones in the first place before they let you finish your upgrade. Hope this works.

    I called 1-877-419-4500. I got a guy named Don.
I asked him to make sure the 'business' thing wasn't on my account. It wasn't.
We reset the phone. (Hold home button and sleep/wake button) nothing.
He said he was going to get a hold of someone in the 'technical activation dept'. He did.
They found a 'glitch' on my account. Seems the activation was placed on hold. they took that off.
turned off my phone, plugged it into usb cable, itunes got it, viola! activated.

  • What does Safari/Mac do for FTP these days?

i am trying to bookmark an ftp download site for my website that is of the form:
    ftp://[email protected]//[email protected]
i know this is a mouthful but it is the correct url and when i enter it into Safari it kicks it out into Firefox which I also have loaded but try to never use. Does anyone know if there are settings in Safari that control this or what is happening here?
is ftp controls set in safari, firefox or elsewhere?
is there a better way to handle ftp on the mac?
all my searches show very old threads on this topic.
    TIA

The URI doesn't seem righ to me. It should be of the form

    (see <http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/ftpurl.html>)
Does anyone know if there are settings in Safari
The settings are not in Safari.
The default FTP client is set in com.apple.LaunchServices.plist. This command in Terminal
    $ defaults read com.apple.LaunchServices | grep -A 2 ftp
should give you a reading of the current settings. It sounds as if you set Firefox to be the default FTP client; if so, there should be a preference for it in Firefox. If not, you should be able to change it in the preferences of the app you decide to use as FTP client, or using the prefpane RCDefaultApp (make sure to read the docs first before installing it).
is there a better way to handle ftp on the mac?
Finder is the default FTP client. Do ⌘K, or Go > Connect to Server…, put the correct URI in "Server Address", and you're good to go. However, it's download only.
For full FTP (we'll ignore CLI tools), I've been using for many years Fetch by Fetch Softworks (commercial, but free for educational or charitable purposes). Alternatives are Interarchy (commercial), Transmit by Panic (commercial), CyberDuck (free), FileZilla (free), Fugu (free, but SFTP only), and others.

  • This is what worked for me, Read!!!! Now I am activated

So like many of you I was stuck waiting for 24 hours. To make this short, do this. If you have been emailed and Activation ID call...877-800-3701. Ask them to cancel the current attempt to activate. Once you do, then connect and iTunes will prompt you to activate as if nothing ever happened. Once I did I was done in five minutes. My hunch is that "We", that are waiting for countless hours, we are stuck in some sort of loop. Break it and good luck.

  • What's new in these days?Seeking to persuade, Adobe still insist FP Development. Waiting for answer

Seeking to persuade, Adobe still insist FP Development. Waiting for answer on line.
I am an AS3 developer, deeply in love with it. Recently I was very disappointed with Adobe.
Fp11.8 seems update frequenctly, but nearly no change. New feathers is all the same every time, why? Unity 3d and Fusion Chart has said goodbay to Flash Player, Weather Adobe is also?

Not sure exactky what's your point, but FP has been gaining some pretty nice features. The GameInput API, for example, is awesome despite a couple of remaining bugs, and a few cool GPU-acceleration features and updates have been creeping in FP too. I'd assume the frequent updates are more due to stability, while point releases are the ones where you see new features. You may want to double-check the changelog to see what has been changed on every version.
Unity has said goodbye to Flash because it solved a problem that was virtually nonexistant, and Fusion Charts would do better with a more cross-platform solution (e.g. Canvas/SVG) considering their target audience. I don't think either have anything to do with Flash technology per se.

  • So this is what they call support?

I own three ipods and another mp3 player. The other player has been through a war (literally) and returned working just fine. I bought my nano and my 40Gb ipod after I got back from OIF. I also bought my wife an iPod at about the same time. While i use mine almost daily, hers has seen sporadic use--100 hours tops. It has never been in a case and the back is barely scratched. It's relatively unused.
Today when I tried to set up her iPod so she could start using it again, I got the messages you get when your ipod has failed...this after charging it to make sure it would work. for grins, I thought I'd see how much Apple wanted to fix it...over $250. OK...I get the message...When it fails after warranty, don't fix it, buy a new one. This seems good for business, bit also a little too wasteful. Anyone have any good suggestions on what I might do with this little brick? Hopefullly I'll get some good suggestions before Big Brother yanks my post.

I'm sorry I wasn't more specific in my initial post. She stopped using it. It worked fine. End of story. Now she wants to use it again. It's a worthless paperweight. Start new saga.
I assumed you'd take as read that I followed every recommended troubleshooting step and came up with ziltch. My mistake. I don't ever resort to forums and asking the general public for help until I have. "RTFM" is not just a catchy acronym, it's a mantra to live by. My level of technical knowledge is fair...Here's a few of the projects I've undertaken: I've rebuilt 60Hz to 400Hz static frequency converters, built, repaired and rebuilt over 100 PC's and built a wind power generating station from off the shelf parts. Know that when I poseted, I was complaining more about garbage technology than really looking for any solution. That being siad, I can overlook even the simplest solution just as easily as the next guy. I should have told readers what i did specifically.
Here are the steps I took for those asking (taken mostly from the web page and editted to make sense along the way (ie I did this, I did that):
Symptom: iPod displays a sad iPod icon
Last Modified on: September 20, 2007

    Issue or symptom
iPod displays a sad iPod icon
    and
iPod is not recognized in iTunes
iPod is not recognized in My Computer (Windows) or iPod not recognized in Finder (Mac OS X)
    Solution
In most cases, the sad iPod icon indicates a hardware issue. If you are able to force iPod into Disk Mode, (I couldn't) then it may not be a hardware issue, and you should try to restore your iPod with the latest software.
At the point I followed the 5 R's.
If you cannot force your iPod into disk mode and restore it (I couldn't), then your iPod is in need of service. Set up an iPod Service Request or make a reservation at the Genius Bar before visiting your local Apple Retail Store. To make a reservation go to www.apple.com/retail, choose an Apple Store location, then click on the "Make a reservation" link.

OK, enough with the tedious details. Suffice to say I tried to resert/restore etc. but to no avail. I also think that it is possible that the battery is not holding a charge.
The bottom line--and reason for my post--is that even though this iPod has barely been used, it is essentially worthless. It is cheaper to go out and buy a new iPod. It just irks me to be so wasteful. My other ipods have had similar hardware failures, but they were still under warranty at the time.
It might just be a battery issue. I can crack it open and replace the battery easily enough for about $30, but in the end, my wife will probably just end up getting a new nano anyway. Thanks for tips on what to do with the little brick.

  • This is what worked for me to install 8.1 Pro on brand new rmbp late 2013 NO WORKAROUND

15 in rmbp, late 2013. Extrernal apple USB drive. USB key for bootcamp drivers. Brand new windows 8.1 pro full version from store. No Upgrade.
Used Bootcamp assistant to 1) save drivers to usb key 2) partition drive to two. Left usb key and drive connected.
Bootcamp assistant reboots mac, windows splash screen. Follow instructions including having to reformat the newly created partition which is usual. No bootcamp parttionn name is present but it should be obvious which is the OSX and Windows partition. Windows begins installing then fails. rmbP is stuck.
Restart nothing, just grey screen. Call apple care. Have to PRM, press on, hold command option P and R keys.Release when apple beep starts. Then it will boot back into OS-X
Boots into osx. Go to bootcamp assistant. Follow instructions and windows partition is removed to give a single OSX parttion. Reopen bootcamp assistant. Repartition. leave USB key and external drive attached. Restart and follow instructions as before. NO issues.
Note, the "almost ready" splash screen hangs for a long time.
Then bootcamp installer comes up. Build 5411.NVIDA driver installed etc. Auto resart after drivers installed. USB drive and key attached. WIndows splash screen. SUCCESSFULLY installed.
OI can also hold down option now on restart to sleect which OS to boot into . WORKS GREAT.
I suspect you have to do a PRM reset after first failure using bootcamp assistant to get it to install properly thereafter.
After I did this I was able to install fine using bootcamp installer in OS-X. No need for ANY work arounds.

This process worked for me on a new Mac Pro (early 2014) to get Windows 8.1 (not 8.0) installed, although I did make one slight change to the process: instead of following your advice at the point: "Restart and follow instructions as before", I instead restarted and used the windows partitioner dialog to 1) delete the bootcamp partition, and 2) create a new partition that was slightly smaller than the remaining available space (by about 1GB). The installer said it might need to create an additional small partition (which it did). I continued with the rest of the install process as you describe above. (Yes, it did take a long time to get past the "almost ready" part.)
Thank you very much for your post!

  • Conflicted. No confidence in Apple's QC these days

You all know the problems I've been having with the Macbook Pro. I've tried three times to get one I'll stick with. The first one, the built to order one was fine, but I returned it in the fourteen days and switched it for the highest end off shelf one (the built to order one was the highest end one, but with no dedicated GPU). The replacement (this Mac) is one noisy machine with the chassis creaking when it feels like it, now I think the hinge has started as well. Its replacement was even worse with what it had wrong with it. I inspected it to check if it had the same issue and I found that if I push the bottom with the lightest possible pressure it flexed and made quite a bit of noise. Also found that the hinge was out off whack. One end was flush and the other stuck out from the body. So I returned the Mac, but still have this creaky machine. It's an intermittent issue, but seems more common these days. There doesn't seem to be any flex anywhere, sometimes it needs me to push real hard (fair enough in those cases), but other times just closing the thing will cause it to do it so I don't even know what's causing it or if it's meant to do this (something tells me it's not supposed to). Some times it's quiet and other times really loud. The keys also leave dirt marks on the screen after it's been transported. I don't remember the built to order one doing that, but I only had it a few days. I've had countless calls to Apple support and live chat sessions, that I can't be dealing with them again, just fed up with it. Hasn't even been four weeks and part of me wishes I'd never touched this thing.
Still a great laptop, but come on Apple, step up your QC! Two out of two bad ones isn't acceptable. I built my own PC earlier this year and not one piece of hardware had to be returned. I would have the exact same hardware configuration if I hadn't changed the GPU (old one was removed due to under-performance which was actually caused by a poor driver release by Nvidia, which meant the PSU was changed. Changed optical drive, because of an issue I thought was there, because it was making an interesting noise at startup that didn't sound right, turns out was normal operation). How is it I can build a computer with tighter hardware controls and QC for £500 less (not counting HE discount)? I've had Xboxes that are built better (in terms of what they were aiming for). I have no doubt this Mac will last a long time, it's just this issue is really disappointing. And no, this Mac has never been dropped.
I don't know if I should even try for another one, seeing as they've got it wrong 66% of the time. I'll probably get one where the chassis is bent, that's what Apple products do these days isn't it? I've had problems with every OEM PC/Mac manufacturer to date. It's like their throwing their computers around the factory or playing football with them or something. Whereas, I've built one computer (my very first build) and from a hardware standpoint, reliability is 100% (there's one known machining mistake with my case, but a drill will fix that). Windows 8 on the other hand is a different story.
Anyway, this post is getting a bit too long, so, should I try for a 4th one (doubt they'll get it right even at the third time of trying)? OEMs all suck, Apple included (I could start a whole new thread on their customer service, and how these forums never work!). Probably just build from now on since OEMs can't seem to get it right. Could have just saved the hassle and just got a cheap tablet/laptop hybrid, but then...Windows 8.

You have a new MBP.  You should deal with Apple support which entitles to 90 days of free telephone support and there is the 1 year warranty.
    Ciao.

  • Forum for Support or N

    Hi,
Right, if this forum is not for support purposes, then I ask Creative, why is this forum and the link under the Support section of the Creative site?
Perhaps this should be moved as it is misleading people into thinking they can get support here. And also, what sort of a company is it, that provides a forum, and does not allow customers to express their feeling upon how that company manages its aspect of products and after sales service, ie: techinical support.
Many companies are open to feedback, yet Creative seem not to have any staff on the forums, who can actually make a difference to any of the problems a customer may or may not have.
For example, many companies would have some sort of support representati've in the forums, if only to keep up appearances, and perhaps make a odd post on one or two topics a day. Now that can't really be too much to ask can it's
    Thanks, Andrew Robinson.

We don't mislead people. At the top of every single forum page it says clearly "Discussion Forums" not "Support Forums." All the main forum pages have that red disclaimer. And if I recall correctly, when you sign up for the forums at one point it takes you to a blank screen that has the disclaimer on it, explaining these are not support forums, but user interaction forums. Do you have a specific suggestion to make it less misleading? It's only under the support section on the main website so people can find it when looking for answers. Users often find answers to their problems here without ever having to send an email. So naturally it'd be under the "support" link where people would look for answers to their problems. The numerous warnings the rest of the way to and in the forums should give it away that it's still just a discussion forum, where people can discuss their problems.
And also, what sort of a company is it, that provides a forum, and does not allow customers to express their feeling upon how that company manages its aspect of products and after sales service, ie: techinical support.

We are open to feedback, we do generally allow customers to express their feelings about it. If we didn't, there wouldn't really be so many angry posts here, because they would all be deleted right? We have to start locking threads when they turn into flame wars, people start cursing, attacking each other or CL, etc. We only allow CIVIL posts, as outlined in the forum Rules, which you agreed to when you signed up for this forum. And we do pass on your feedback to the appropriate channels. We aren't in charge of actually implementing any ideas, but we do get the feedback to them. And more often than you see, those ideas do get implemented. For example there has been requests in the sound forum for a PCI-Express sound card. I recall seeing Creative showing off a new PCI-Express card recently.
If anyone has a CIVIL comment to make, I'll leave this thread open. But any attacks, threats, cursing etc, and it's locked. We've stated what this forum is in place for, if you have a suggestion to change the forum please feel free to PM a forum moderator or contact Customer Support.

  • IPhone-Outlook 2007 Calendar Sync (What worked for me)

    Hi;
Today after 3 weeks of day after day trial my iPhone-Outlook 2007 Calenar synch problems seems to be fully fixed. Once again this is what worked for me - I am sharing it and hope that can help you as well:
    Overview
    ========================
I now fully believe that the root cause of the issue starts from a corrupted appoinment entry in your local calendar file. This appointment entry in turn breaks your outlook sync file known as the .OST file. I will tell you how to fix this later. This file is what iTune uses to synch the iPHONE calendar with your Outlook 2007 (same should work for outlook 2003).
In short when the outlooksync.DLL file called by iTUNE, request to sync with outlook - it is the outlook that cannot resolve a corrupt .OST file and all goes to **** after that.
I say this as "This is up to you find this bad calendar entry, get rid of it, get rid of the .OST file, and finally tell Outlook to do a repair job on your outlook installation. I will tell you all how to do this as well.
    Steps to fix this issue:
    ===========================================
1- Go to your outlook calendar and delete any old appointment that still is in there. I got rid of anything older that 2 weeks. To do this just go to your calendar in outlook ... swith to a List view ... sort based on date and highlight anything older than that date and delete. This took me about 30-45 miutes of work... so be paitent with this step. Also, get rid of any holiday notification BS that Outlook puts in your calendar ... you can do this later.
2- Go to outlook-tools-trust center-click on Add-In and then at the bottom of the screen click on Go and validate that your two outlook sync dlls are marked and enabled.
3- Shut down outook and go to the following directory.
    C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\
    Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
and rename your .OST file ... (there should be only one out there).
3- Go to your control panel and do start/stop applications. Select Outlook and click on change ... outlook will come up with a few options. Select "Repair" this should force outlook to replace the .OST file which you just renamed.
4- Now starts your outlook and let it do its initial sync. Make sure iTune is off at this point. After the Outlooks initialization is done ... now comes the moment of truth...
5- Start iTune (I recommend that you select manual sync) and sycn with your calendar.
At this point I learned that all my calendar items have come in ....
Good luck and let me know if this works with you. Please Please remember the first step ... getting rid of your old appointments is the most important step ... don't rush it ... get rid of anything that you don't need.
    Cheers;
    Darab.

You can try resetting sync history by clicking on edit at the top of itunes and choosing preferences. Then click on the iphone icon at the right top of the window that opens. There is a button at the bottom of the window to reset sync history.
Also, you can try creating a new login on the computer.
Open outlook and put in a few trial events.
Then sync the iphone to this outlook calendar replacing all calendar data on the iphone.
This is to see if you end up with dots on every day.
If you do not end up with dots on every day, then you might want to take a look at any reoccurring events in the other outlook calendar.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cycle count for serialized material

    Guys,
When we do cycle count for serialized items, it pop up to enter serial # when updating the count. Is there any BADI/User exist to skip this step in counting for serialized materials. We dont want to enter serial#, since volume is hugh and serial# is of less important, only count matters.
    Regards
    TGB

Once you active the series number, then all the material need marked and managed with series number.
and stock counting need under series number.
it will cost more time absolutely than no series number.
if you think the series number not important, you can Deactivate serial number.
But please note, the reason why you use serial number is to manage the material one by one against the series number.
    NOT just count the quantity.

what does this mean "We apologize for the inconvenience, but the ability to order books and prints is no longer supported in iPhoto 5. Please upgrade to a newer version of iPhoto to order these products." I want to buy a photo book and that message keeps popping up.

TD, LN - You guys make great points and I will take you at your word. Normally, I would not hesitate to update. I have a lot at stake here with a large vacation coming up with a great many new pictures anticipated. I don't know enough to understand what is meant by "verifying my library." Please give me some insight there and I will start the upgrade process tonight! Seriously, I have wanted to do this for some time, but have been scared away by reading too many situations on these forums.
TD - you have a good sense of humor. I know all versions eventually need to be left to die away. Support is not eternal. I am sure I missed the announcement that certain versions of iPhoto would no longer offer the ability to conveniently make cards, calendars, books, etc. Like the original poster, I was surprised to learn my version did not offer that functionality only by requesting it and getting denied. Sort of frosted me at the time, as you can tell by my original reply here.
If anyone can help me with the "verifying" question, I'll get off of here and let the original poster have his thread back!

  • Hello I purchase some movies for my kids on ituns for my ipad 2, we wacht them a cople of times and and now everytime y try to whact them it said this movie format is not supported, what can I do

I purschase some movies for my kids on ituns for my ipad 2 we see the movies a cople of times and know every time I try to wacht them it sais this movie format is not supported? What is wrong I want to see them or get my money back
    Thank you for your help

your situation is not new.  Others have been told by Apple that they have to purchase the entire bottom panel in order to replace the feet.  There are engineering solutions that can solve this problem, but to pay nearly $200 to replace a part that costs less than $1 (I am being very, very conservative) to manufacture is too excessive.
I have had the feet come off as well.  Fortunately for me, I have not lost them and have been able to replace them.  Why they cannot sell them individually is a puzzle to me.  Perhaps some bean counter at Apple feels its too much effort to have these items individually  in their inventory.  I have had nothing but good comments to say about Apple, but sadly this is an exception.
To address your problem, I have seen second hand ones advertised on Ebay.  The price was a bit steep, $10 as I remember.  Other wise, wjosten's suggestion is the only alternative.
    Ciao
