Today I tried to update to IOS 8 on my ipad 4. I thought I was doing everything right. I did it through itunes. I backed up before starting. It now is frozen. itunes says it's in recovery mode.get error 3014. HELP!
Today I tried to update to IOS 8 on my ipad 4. I thought I was doing everything right. I did it through itunes. I updated iTunes to 11.4. I backed up before starting. It now is frozen. itunes says it's in recovery mode. The only options it gives me is to Restore so I say ok... after a few seconds I get get error 3014. It says this ipad can not be restored. It has a button to click for more info which leads me to this page: Error 3194, Error 17, or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
Please help, I have a back up I just can't get to it. Why did this happen!!!

I have since tried a few more things... suggestions found online...
I tried using another computer, same house same internet link though... it downloaded the update again, took about an hour & a half but as soon as it finished it said it could not restore because "device could not be found". I unplugged my ipad then plugged it back in so it would "see" it but it just went right back to the "ipad in recovery mode needs to be restored"... then the same error 3014.
I don't know if the computer can sense the ipad or what's going on. On the screen when it wants to do the restore it has an icon of an ipad & it says "Serial Number: n/a
The next thing I tried... was right clicking iTunes & choosing "Run as Administrator". It started another hour & a half download of the update... but then when it was done it went right back to the error 3014.
Is there nothing that can help?!?

everything should be on your computer.
If you do as you should and make sure that everything is on your computer, then you should lose nothing. -
Having hard time updating from 4.1 to 5.1 error mesage stating firm ware is not comppatible after succesful download will not update.
Which iTunes version is your computer running? You need the latest version of iTunes to install iOS 5.0.

thank you in advance!!!Try this and see if it will restart the update. If it doe not work, you will need to restore your iPad using Recovery Mode.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Why would "updating your Library" erase your songs. Are you trying to update the iOS on the iPad?

Thanks for the question. I understand that your iPhone is in recovery mode. To exit recovery mode, try restarting the device. If the issue persists, try restoring with iTunes:

I have an ipod touch and recently performed the latest updates of itunes. It said there were problems with my ipod and it need to be restored. I did that and now it says it's in recovery mode and that I need to restore it. It takes 45 minutes and I've tried it several times and keep getting same message. My ipod is now unusable and it has a photo of a plug with an itunes icon telling me to plug it in. It is plugged in??? I restarted the computer, tried another computer, reset my ipod and nothing. Help!

No, it does not. It transfers purchases from the iDevice to the computer. The computer must be authorized for the Apple ID that the content was acquired with.

I have a 3gs, and I haven't updated it for a long time because I always have issues when I do. I tried to update the ios today, and it decided to update it to 6.1.3 instead of 7, I didn't think there would be a problem, so I clicked ok. When I came to check on my phone, itunes said there was an error with the update, and my phone was in recovery mode (plug-in sign on the screen). I looked up multiple things to try, I tried putting it in DFU mode, still itunes doesn't see it. The computer also doesn't list it under devices, however when it is plugged in the Apple Mobile Support USB Driver shows up in device manager. I have tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling, still nothing. I just want to know if there is anything else I can try. Thanks.
No, it is my phone that I've had since 2009. I just hate updating it because every time I do something goes wrong. So I put it off as long as possible. I am getting a new iphone, but I read that to have your backup transfer to the new phone, it must be a backup from the current ios.

Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

I'm trying to update my iOS to 6.0, using iTunes (with my 4s connected via USB and WiFi is on also). I get a message that 'there are purchased items on my iPhone that have not been transferred to my iTunes library. Yet, I can't find those items! Help! It is usually given as a communication error between Apple, iTunes (your computer), iPhone. Somewhere they are not communicating, so the iOS you are trying to install cannot be approved by Apple. Trouble shooting steps include, making sure you have Current iTunes installed, make sure your Hosts file of computer is not blocking Apple. Try restoring on another computer.
