Tomcat 5.0.16 with UIX 2.1.11 / BC4J 9.0.3.3?

A stable Apache Tomcat 5 release is out (5.0.16). Does anyone has experiences running UIX 2.1.11 / BC4J 9.0.3.3 with it?
Btw. Tomcat 5.0.16 is a Servlet 2.4 and JSP 2.0 release.

Control-Hints are suppose work with UIX/XML, right?

Control-Hints are suppose work with UIX/XML, right?
I've added some control hints and they worked correctly when viewed using UIX/JSP pages. However, none of the Control-Hints appear on UIX/XML pages.
The documentation suggests that this should work. Am I wrong?

There's a bit of confusion here (which is entirely our fault).
UIX JSP is a subset of UIX XML (almost entirely; a few tags in
UIX JSP simply wouldn't make sense in UIX XML, like <uix:buildTree>).
However, BC4J UIX JSP is not a subset of BC4J UIX XML; the two
are essentially entirely different libraries. (Any JSP tag that
starts with <bc4juix:> counts as a "BC4J UIX JSP" tag.) I agree
that this is confusing.
As far as control hints go: BC4J UIX XML does not currently
support control hints. It does offer more than enough flexibility
to tweak all the dials and knobs made available by control hints (and
a lot more).

UIX/JSP - How to use the UIX Controller with UIX/JSP

After reading the UIX Developers Guide I am under the impression that I could use the UIX Controller with UIX/JSP pages. Is this correct and are there any available examples?

It's correct, but I'm afraid we don't have much (read as "any")
documentation on how to do that - besides reading through the
gobs of Javadoc and guessing how to put it together.
Half of the problem is solved by registering JspPageDescriptions
on a PageBroker (e.g., UIXPageBroker) to tell the UIX Controller
to use a JSP to render a particular page, instead of a UIX XML
document.
The other half is getting the JSP to send requests back to
the UIX Controller. Depending on how you've chosen to name
your pages, create either a DefaultPageEncoder or ExtensionPageEncoder
inside your JSP, and use that to create destination URLs.

From your sample code it looks like you are trying to use the Struts <bean:message> to provide internationalized text for the links in your globalHeader component. Couple of comments on this particular issue:
- You'll need to add a <link> element to your globalHeader for each item that you want to display. So, instead of:
<uix:globalHeader>
<bean:message key="title" arg0="Browse"/>
</uix:globalHeader>
You'll want something which looks like this:
<uix:globalHeader>
<uix:link text="Browse"/>
</uix:globalHeader>
- If you want to bind the text for each link to some internationalized value which is pulled from a ResourceBundle, you should use the UIX JSP <bundle> data provider:
<uix:bundle name="l10n" class="your.Bundle"/>
<uix:globalHeader>
<uix:link textBinding="title@l10n"/>
</uix:globalHeader>
In general when mixing JSP tags from different tag libraries, you need to be careful that you honor the semantics of each tag library. For example, in this particular case, the <uix:globalHeader> expects to have <uix:link> children - using any arbitrary tag (like <bean:message>) is not necessarily going to produce the desired results.
As far as general UIX/Struts integration goes, we recommend using uiXML as a view for your Struts application. Check out the "Using uiXML with Struts" section of the UIX Developer's Guide for more info.

Problems with UIX-XML

We are trying to use the UIX XML framework, but we have some problems:
1)     We need to show the content of an uploaded file such as PDF, Word, Excel and other multimedia content.
2)     We need to process the changes on a bc4j table with editable fields (we can read the values, but when we try to update the view object, an error occurs saying that the value is not serializable).
3)     We need to load the shuttle component with data coming from a bc4j view object and to process the changes on that component (like the order of data).
4)     We need to use bc4j uix tags in UIX templates.
5)     We need to read the custom properties of view or entity object.

I've read that 9.03 is suppost to have UIX/XML-interMedia support (any JDev guys want to confirm that).
I've has this same issue and had to revert to BC4J-JSP for the interMedia stuff. That said, to get the UIX look, I was able to wrap that up inside of UIX-JSP pages using <rawText> and it work.

Problem with UIX Pages in sub folders

I want to group my UIX pages into sub folders to maked definition of security constraints more convenient.
The New UIX Page wizard doesn't allow creation into a sub folder so I have created a blank page and then renamed it into a subfolder using File>>Rename menu option. However, now when I drag Data Control bindings onto the page they fail to bind properly. (No data appears when I run the page.)
Is there a fundamental problem with placing UIX pages into sub folders? Is it something I shouldn't do? Requiring a flat file structure seems an onerous restriction!

yes. this is a known problem when you are running UIX pages and not struts dataactions.
For the model bindings to work, you currently have to keep
all your uix pages in the top level directory.
However, if you use the struts-pageflow with UIX pages, then you can keep you UIX pages where ever you want.

Tomcat v.4 problem with Oracle

I've been using Tomcat 3 just fine with Oracle. I executed the same application with Tomcat 4, and I'm geetting the following exception when trying to connect to the database:
ORA-00988: missing or invalid password(s)
I'm using the exact same files. I tried playing with the driver files, converting zips to jars... but still.
Any suggestions or any one who has had the same problem?

I solved it. the DriverManager.getConnection arguments that I was using had to be changed for some reason. I just tried a simpler database URL format found on the web and it worked. Still I find this strange, since the same statement would work with the same libraries under Tomcat 3 but not Tomcat 4. Any explanations?

Getting application exception while running a web application with UIX page

I think i did not given sufficient information. This exception is coming when i try to run the Icon in struts-config.xml file. Which will launch an internal server (which come with JDeveloper i did not configure any Tomcat or Oracle Application Server) that run the page.

Are you using correct Jdeveloper version ?

Tomcat as a Service with -Xms512M -Xmx1024M

Hello all,
In order to run successfully my application with Tomcat 5.0.20 on Windows XP I had to change the memory settings.
So in the System environment variable I've added:
JAVA_OPTS = -Xms512M -Xmx1024M
CATALINE_OPTS = -Xms512M -Xmx1024M
and if I launch Tomcat with the startup.bat, my application runs fine.
Now I am trying to run Tomcat as a Windows Service (using service.bat install) but this time Tomcat runs out of memory and generates exceptions despite the fact I've changed the following line in service.bat from:
"%EXECUTABLE%" //IS//%SERVICE_NAME% --Jvm auto etc...
to
"%EXECUTABLE%" //IS//%SERVICE_NAME% JvmMs 512M JvmMx 1024M --Jvm auto etc...
What am I doing wrong?

I had the same problem and I found that the tomcat.exe can be used to install a service.

Issue with UIX Editable Table

Hi,
I have created a Master-Detail-Detail page using UIX. I want to make the last detail table editable. I have tried the tip mentioned in the following page to make the table editable.

But, the condition in switcher ${uix.current.EmployeeId.inputValue == bindings.EmployeeId.inputValue is always returning false. This is because, the ${bindings.xxxxx} is returning null for all columns.

Tomcat 5.5.12 with Solaris 10 on Sparc SunFire T2000

I am experiencing difficulty with installing Tomcat 5.5.12 on a Solaris 10 Sparc SunFire T2000 SunOS machine. Can someone please help?
After I untar the apache-tomcat-5.5.12.tar.gz like this:
gunzip < apache-tomcat-5.5.12.tar.gz | tar xvf -
I then tried to start the Tomcat like this:
[root@sun] ./bin/startup.sh
Using CATALINA_BASE: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-5.5.12
Using CATALINA_HOME: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-5.5.12
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /opt/tomcat/apache-tomcat-5.5.12/temp

But the Tomcat is not up, and the log file only says:
This release of Apache Tomcat was packaged to run on J2SE 5.0
or later. It can be run on earlier JVMs by downloading and
installing a compatibility package from the Apache Tomcat
binary download page.
I have searched on the Internet and found some similar info that talks about the five steps to install Tomcat on a Solaris (http://johnturner.com/howto/apache2-tomcat4112-sol8-howto.html):
1. Build/Install Apache
2. Install JDK
3. Build/Install Tomcat
4. Build/Install JK Connector (between Apache and Tomcat)
5. Configure the whole setup and test both Apache and Tomcat.
However, I was also told that I should be able to just unzip the Tomcat and startup the sample web page.
Do I have to go through the whole five major steps to bring up Tomcat 5.5.12 on Solaris 10? I know that I need to use some GNU tools instead of Solaris tool such as tar for this effort. I'd like to avoid the major effort if all I need to just Tomcat.
I'd appreciate any help that you may have.

I guess tomcat 5.5.20 be installed on JDK 1.4 using the comaptiblity package given in link http://tomcat.apache.org/download-55.cgi#5.5.20.
But I have not tried.
Does any one know how to ?

Tomcat not loading images with mod_jk

I have images stored in a database which when retrieved have the extension .tmp when I view these images using tomcat they are recognised as being jpeg or bmp files etc. and are displayed as images.
When the same images are viewed using tomcat through apache using the mod_jk module, the images appear as text.
If I try viewing the same images in apache on its own they appear fine. To repeat this, take a jpeg file and change its extension to .tmp place the file in a tomcat application, lookat the image using tomcat on its own //localhost:8080/myapp/myimage.tmp it appears fine, look at it using apache using mod_jk //localhost/myapp/myimage.tmp and it appears as text. Has anyone got any clue as to how to fix this.
I am using apache 2.0 with mod_jk 1.2.15 and jakarta-tomcat-5.0.28

Try emptying the cache on your iMac and iPad.
One the iMac with Safari open, press Command + Option + E on the keyboard. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
On the iPad. Tap Settings > Safari. Tap Clear History then tap Clear Cookies and Data. Restart your iPad.

The problem is that the parameter that I set through nextUrl.setParameter("ACTION", actionForm) , which means i set a parameter name "ACTION" with value="FORM2". This parameter is not available through String action = request.getParameter("ACTION"); in the processAction method when I click on the "Click here" link in the edit.uix.
However, I can retrieve one parameter from the action request, which is ";wsrp-interactionState", and whose value is "ACTION=FORM2"
I have no clue why is this happening. Any pointers in this regard are highly appreciated.
p.s : It works fine with JSP as the front end.

If you don't want to use the administration console to create channels based on the porltlets you deployed, you need to create a display profile fragment that create the channels and import using 'dpadmin'
