Too much connection testing?

Hi all,
Just going through trying to do some optimization on our connection pooling. The current setup as "TestConnectionsOnReserve", "TestConnectionsOnRelease", and "TestConnectionsOnCreate" all set to 'true'. This sounds to me like too much testing. Is it overkill to test a connection when released, and again when reserved the next time? An informal JMeter script test using 100 threads reflected a solid performance improvement after setting "TestConnectionsOnRelease" to 'false'. Is it typical to use all three together? I know 'it depends' on my environment, but I'm wondering if there is a common practice.
BTW, we saw a similar improvement when setting "SecondsToTrustAnIdlePoolConnection" to 10 seconds during load testing. if I read correctly, using this will offset some of the additional testing (especially under load) since the connection will not be tested repeatedly when released/reserved over and over in a short time frame.

BillHi Bill. You are correct on all counts. test-on-release is a waste of cycles, and test-on-create
is useless because we ignore any failure (until that was fixed in 81sp5). Also, seconds-to-trust
will prevent much of the testing in situations where you can use it.

I checked your configuration and looked fine.
So, if your problem is related to the high value of reponse time,
it maybe a server issue.
Regarding low performance issue of CSS, it may be related to
the flow idle timeout value. I've handled perfomance issue as
TAC SR and some of them were related to the idle timeout.
Since idle timeout of tcp is 16 seconds by default, flow will be
deleted from active flow list (show flows) if flow is idle more than
16 seconds.
If you want to change this idle timer, please configure as below.
CSS11503-A(config-owner-content[test-test])# flow-timeout-multiplier 100
BTW, your CSSes run about 800 days. I suggest you upgrade WebNS
or reboot CSSes since there are some bugs regarding 828 days issue
as follows:

BI Widget - uses too much connections

Hi all,
I'm using BI widgets and it is a very good tool but I cannot find a way in order to do not open a new connection after a Widget refresh. the problem here is the widgets does not close the connection used after each refresh.
has anybody passed by this? I'm ussing BI widgets 3.1 SP3

note: I know that this can be resolved by increasing the number of maximun connections or by deactivating this functionality but I was wondering if we can resolved this by a "nice way" without put our servers in risks.

Perhaps if you stated the models of cameras. From what I've read if you're connecting the cameras to the CCK, there are sometimes settings on the cameras you need to change to make it work.
I always use mine just with the SD card - saves my camera battery - and I've not had an issue.

Wrvs4400n file transfer connection trouble "Too Much Data"

Hi when connecting trying to do file transfers over IRC in mirc, when some people try to send me files, they get a "Too much data recieved" Error, only happens with this router (i have a wag200g and that works perfect)
this is while trying to establish connection and only seems to effect one port (443) thou i only have 3 ports to test, the other 2 work fine
any ideas?

try reducing MTU to 1365 on the router, also try reflashing the firmware...check whether it makes any difference or not.

Taking too much time (1min) to connect to database

I have oracle 10.2 and 10g application server.
Its taking too much time to connect to database through application (on browser). The connection through sqlplus is fine.

this and the main question of mine is this that how can i control my OracleAS 10g with forms because basically the functionality of OracleAS is Mid-Tier but i am not utilizing the Mid-tier i am using here Two-tier Envrionment even i installed 3-Tier Environment so tell me how i utilize it with 3-Tier..

If you are getting that message on a brand new Mac with nothing connected to the USB ports, take it back. It is broken.

Try a different USB cord, seen this many many times, its highly likely a damaged USB cord.

It depends on the camera, but some have a special mode for offloading photos but not trying to charge the camera through the USB port. For others, you may have to pull out the SD card (if that's what it uses) and use the Lightning to SD card reader instead.
Maybe if you told us what camera you are connecting, somebody here with the same model can give you more specific information.

Oracle 11G + Database Connection taking too much Time

I am using Oracle 11G . When i try to connect to oracle database
sqlplus system/impetus@database
it takes too much time ( more than 1 min )
I am not getting why this is happening ?
Before some day it was working fine but suddenly the problem occurred.. Is this issue is related to log files generated by oracle or memory related issue ( sga and pga)..
Any Help please ?

Darn! /tmp/capture.log does not contain what I expected it to contain.
So a different approach is needed.
issue the following command:
script /tmp/capture.log
#now you are in a new shell & issue the next 3 lines
strace sqlplus system/impetus@database
exit
Ctrl-d (Control D)
now issue the following commands.
ls -l /tmp/capture.log
wc -l /tmp/capture.log
Post the results from 2 commands above back here
