The top half of my iPhone isn't working - has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what was the result?

If the standard troubleshooting steps do not resolve it - power your iPhone off and on, Reset, Restore, time to give AppleCare a call (800) 694-7466, or make an appointment at an Apple Store if there is one nearby.

    Follow these steps to log into your iCloud account on your computer and deactivate "Find my iPhone" on your device:
    Remove an iOS device or Mac on which you can’t turn off Find My iPhone
    If you can’t turn off Find My iPhone on the device, turn off the device so it goes offline, then remove it from Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.
    Note:    You can also remove your iOS device by first erasing it—just follow the instructions below for removing an iOS device you don’t have. You can later restore the device from an iCloud or iTunes backup.
    Turn off the device you want to remove.
    Sign in to icloud.com/#find on another computer with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud). If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
    Click All Devices, select the offline device, then click Remove from Account. If you don’t see Remove from Account, click All Devices again, then click the Delete button next to the device. If the device comes online again, it will reappear in Find My iPhone.     When the device is erased, click Remove from Account.All your content is erased, and someone else can now activate the device.

    We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
    You need to follow, exactly, the instructions on that HT2534 page when creating an account (the instructions won't work with existing accounts) - I've just tried it and I got the 'none' option.
    e.g. on my computer's iTunes I logged out of my existing account, found a free app in the store and clicked on its free 'price' :

    Agreed to the terms, filled in my details, and got the 'none' option on the payments screen :

    i have a strange probglem on my phone and the bottom half of the screen wont work and the top half will, i cant answer any phone calls i cant open the ipod or anything on the bottom i wish i had put them on the top rows now and the top rows will move about so i can turn it off but the moment i lock my phone the only way i can access it again is if it tiurn it off and on again, thank god the turn off thing is on the top lol, its a stupid problem to have but has anyone ever had somehing like this? could it be solved with a restore? this would be a great time for the springboard to be able to switch sides. maybe 3.0 will fix it?

    i will try a restore, im trying to avoid this because i have app store apps i dont have saved in itunes after i had to format.. but if it makes my iphone work its definatly worth trying.
    i think its still under worranty if the restore does not work putting to dfu mode and restore, ill take to store see if they can replace it. but hopefully by then ill be able to buy a new iphone maybe get the 16gb..

  • SD Set top box not working in one location. Just displays 4 dashes in place of the time.

    At first this Motorola STB just had the lower third program info displayed and no video from the channel itself and in place of that was a screen that said "This channel not available" this on all channels; then screen went blank. I tried a working STB from another bedroom in place of this one and it did not work at this location either. So am not sure what is going on. Any help appreciated, thanks.

    Sounds like a bad cable.  If you have a splitter at the bad location, try removing it.  I would also try the suspect box in the working location to confirm both boxes are good. Then you have to decide if you want to try fixing the cable yourself or pay Verizon to do it.

    It still works on my iPad - is it working on any of your apps e.g. Safari, Mail, Notes, and are you touching right at the top of the screen (I've seen a few other posts implying that the area of the screen that you need to touch isn't quite as deep as it used to be) ? Have you tried a reset to see if it works after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Desk top shortcuts not working

    Could use help. Desk top icons have shortcuts to them They were working and now I ge a basic blank screen with 2 messages. One in bottom left "connecting" and top left "loading". Nothing is ever completed. I can go thru my providers site (Time Warner) and then into Google to complete a connection to the site that didn't work with shortcuts. Tried to delete a shortcut and create a new one on desktop but it still won't work. It seems like the shortcut to the .url link is missing???? Not too geekish so I have limited resources.   • X1 digital set top box not working

    Main X1 set top box works fine. Comcast messed up the order and listed the seconf box as a Phone. Been trying since last wednesday to get it straightened out and when I thought I did, only got 4 HD channels on what was told was a HD set top box. Now the box says it is not activated.  6 hrs later, still no resolution and no response. cannot get through on the 1-800 number during this time. For as much as Comcast charges, this is very poor customer service. Hoping someone has an answer.

  • Top button not working when I want to lock my phone

    I'm having trouble locking my phone. The top button isn't working properly and I can only use the left side of the button but have to put in extra effort to make sure it locks. Anyone else having this problem? Or suggestions?

         Unfortunately,heard this before,happens from time to time.What may have happened and I am saying may is that you went to one of those kieos that they have in the mall type stores and the person just wanted to sell you a new cable,very common. If you were to send it back ,Apple more than likely would have sent you a new cable but who does that.Its like anything else,have a Verizon phone and go to one of those mall stores and they try to make money because that is how the sales person gets his cash,go to a Verizon store ,not a franchise and they take excellent care of you,they want a return customer.
        Apple is an excellent product,unfortunately they like many other stores try to get their share of the business and have to put some cost saving practices into their product to stay competitive.Lately with some of there changes they make a product that is not very easy to keep together,weak frames,digitizers and accessories.Like the car industry they want you back purchasing more products,so they need to get their money in inventive ways.That is just too bad,like I say they have a great product,just need to be a bit more rugged.Like many others here will dis agree with my comments,their answer will be just buy a case for your phone which will then just make it bulky and help to protect the phone but still susceptible to getting wet and damaged by water.My opinion is that some of the older phones were better than anything on the market today,take for example the Casio Boulder,indestructible for the most part.Freeze it,drop it in water,run it over bake it in the sun and it keeps on working. Try anyone of those things with an Apple product and you will be purchasing a new phone.

    I recently went to the service center to swap boxes as I was having an issue with my first box not being able to be added to my account. Something about there being a mix-up in the warehouse. Anyway, I got the new box a Samsung RNG150N and started to set it up. I pulled in the two coax cables as they're supposed to be and plugged the top box in. The power light on the box came on, (blue light), but nothing else. I waited ten mintues and still nothing. So I unplugged the box, checked the coax cords and plugged it back in. Still only the power light came on even after thirty minutes of waiting. There isn't even a sound coming from the box. I don't know what's wrong with it. My guess could possibly be that the box isn't getting enough power, but I'm fairly certain my outlets work as I had no power issues or others like it with the last box. What else is there to do?

    Apologies for the issue and the experience that you described above. In reviewing your account I do see that there is a technician visit scheduled for later today so that we can get this working for you. Thanks for your patience.
    A few things that you might want to check before the technician visit: 
    Check to see how your cable box is connected to the TV set.
    If connected via RF-coaxial cable, the TV should be on channel 3 or 4. 
    If connected via HDMI be sure that HDMI is selected on your TV set (there may be an HDMI 2, HDMI 3, etc. input on your TV set, check them all).
    For X1 - be sure that you are connected to the HDMI output on the X1 cable box.
    If you are connected via component cables (red, blue, green) be sure that your Component is selected as the input on your TV set 
    If your TV is connected via composite cables, (red, white and yellow) check that your TV is selected to Video or Game.

Problem examples: If I try to update weather-->"update failed" sometimes, sometimes not (the busy wheel spins but I never see the wi-fi icon like on my wife's). For stocks-->"error retrieving data" sometimes, sometimes not (as with weather). Likewise for D/L'ing mail-->sometimes "cannot connect...", sometimes it does. All that is ever at the top is the dreaded "E" icon. Suggestions?!?

  • MSi GE70 - Top Buttons not Working

    Hi,
    Quite a simple problem, that I've been working around for a while: all of the buttons on the top row except on/off and what I assume is fan speed, no longer have any effect.
    I've had a few searches for this problem, and all I've been able to find is "update windows 8", which doesn't work (obviously!).
    These buttons aren't part of the keyboard, and everything that is "Fn +" still works. I can eject discs using the button on the drive. Also, the Turbo turns itself on/off as necessary.
    If anyone has any suggestions for fixes, I would most appreciate it!

    I checked two things at this point. First, that "org.gnome.shell.extensions.hidetopbar" is indeed present (which it is), and second that my version of Gnome is supported. I have Gnome 3.12, and according to "metadata.json" 3.12 is supported.

    You should give exactly one directory name
