TREX WPC Help!!

I am having a problem with a index picking up the WPC content. I changed the hostname in the url generator, checked the properties, checked the trace logs... Still having problems. The index starts out with an idle status and then after about 1 minute goes to error and displays this error:
/wpccontent/Sites/Help Content/Web Pages/New Page/output.xml
Trex: Preparation failed: index operation
It is finding the content but wont index it. I haven't been able to find a fix for this error.  Any suggestions?

We had this same WPC indexing issue on NW7 SP14 due to content being developed on one portal then moved via KM Transport with GUIDs to another portal.  The wpc_wcm_trex_url property of the output.xml files associated with the Web Pages retained the full URL to the original server causing the indexing to fail on the new server.  See [Note 1315079|https://websmp230.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=1315079] - How to edit wpc_wcm_trex_url property of a WPC page
We upgraded to SP18 patch 3 and the wpc_wcm_trex_url property has now been reformatted as a relative url but every Web Page created prior to the upgrade had to be republished in the target environment for the property to reset.   Once the wpc_wcm_trex_url properties are reset to relative URLs the TREX indexing works perfectly.

  • How do we know that TREX is helping?

Before our ECC had no TREX connected,  we could do "full text search" .
Now we have connected ECC with TREX, we can do "full text search" as well.
Where to verify (or visualize) that TREX is helping with our  "full text search" when the hour glass is running?
    Thanks!

    Thanks!
However, our TREX is connected to an ABAP only ECC and an SM7.70.
I think that TREX is only working when creating indexes. When doing a "full text search",
even the TREX is down, the search still goes on without problem.
How to verify my guess w/o shuting down TREX?   Thanks!

  • TREX/Content Server: Full text searches not working

I've setup TREX and Content Server in a sandbox environment and have been trying to get my head around DMS.  I've completed what I've believed are the required steps (outlined below) and I have submitted 12 documents of various types into the respository.  I'm able to perform meta data searches but not full text searched.  Any ideas what I might have missed?
    Much thanks!!!!

  • Error in search help AEN_TREX_SIMPLE and AEN_TREX_ADVANCED

    Hi.
i've created and activated the index for business object ECM in SES_ADMIN.
    It was fully indexed.
When i search on TREX side it seems that the index is okay.
But when i try to search in CC03 with the TREX search help i get no results from TREX.
The report COM_SE_SEARCH_TEST shows me results, but the report COM_SE_SEARCH_TEST
    show me nothing.
    Am i missing something ?
    Thanks.
    Sebastian

The difference is that the test program COM_SE_SEARCH_IIF_TEST uses the official SES search interface method CL_COM_SE_SEARCH_IIF=>SEARCH_OBJECTS, whereas the test program COM_SE_SEARCH_TEST directly accesses the native TREX search interface, function module TREX_EXT_SEARCH_DOCUMENTS (which you are not allowed to use in customer development).
Therefore COM_SE_SEARCH_TEST does not include the authorization check, whereas
CL_COM_SE_SEARCH_IIF=>SEARCH_OBJECTS passes the raw search result from TREX to the object-specific authorization check routine. This check routine has to be implemented by the responsible application using interface method IF_COM_SE_BUSOBJ~CHECK_AUTHORIZATION.
The implementing class can be found/set in customizing:
Transaction SES_ADMIN, menu path: Goto -> Customizing -> Business Objects and Indexes
On the screen "Display View ..." double-click in the tree to the left on: Settings for Business Objects
    So I guess:
    - either the obect-specific implementation of ~CHECK_AUTHORIZATION is erroneous
    - or the logon user is just not authorized
For more and general information you should check the SAP notes

    HI,
Not sure if TREX will help you to search the payload from sxmb_moni, because as per my knowledge Trex is alreday there in XI system and we use it in RWB --- Message Monitoring.
But you can go through these blogs which will help you to search the payload data.

  • Portal Roles Search & TREX Search

    Hello,
We need to search some pages and documents. The search results should be based on the permissions set for that user on the pages and documents. We created Portal Roles Search. It works fine for pcd objects. But it doesn't work for documents.
When we create an index with TREX Search service, it works for documents. But it doesn't consider the permissions.
When there are 2 search indexes, one with TREX Search and the other with Portal Roles Search, the TREX Search throws WcmException.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Sudha,
    Portal Roles Search
The objects found using the portalRolesSearch index service in the PCD cache are converted to KM objects and can be displayed in the search results list.

  • Trex Doubt

    Hi Experts!
    Questions:
The indexing of files. XLS and. XLSX via Trex, what information the Trex indexes from content?
Is possible index content in Text Boxes?
Is possible index content in Cell Comments?
Is better to use .XLSX files ?
    Thx!

    Hi,
file formats supported by TREX: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/55/cb634114b78047e10000000a1550b0/content.htm
"The TREX preprocessor converts the document text and attributes of the different file formats into UTF-8 encoded HTML. The file filters of a special filter software are used to enable the subsequent searching and indexing of all prevalent file formats such as MS WORD; MS PowerPoint, PDF, and HTML."
=> What ever the file filter can converttp HTML, TREX can index.
As XLS or XLSX: This depends on your TREX version and the file filter installed. If you don't have a filter for XLSX, you won't be able to index XLSX files.
I'm not sure about the exact index behaviour, but you should check if TREX indexes the whole document or just a part of it, like: the first 1 MB.

SAP note 1008299 Configuring IIS on Windows 2003 64-Bit
    and the following description:
In order that a TREX 7.0 32-bit system could use a MS Internet Information Server (IIS), the IIS must have been previously set to 32-bit mode (see SAP note 1008299 Configuring IIS on Windows 2003
    64-Bit).
You have to set the IIS back to 64-bit mode so the TREX 7.1 64-bit system can use it:
    a. Open a command prompt and navigate to the
    %systemdrive%\InetPub\AdminScripts directory
    b. Execute the following command:
    cscript.exe adsutil.vbs set W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32BitAppOnWin64 False
    c. Do an iisreset.
Note: An Internet Information Server (IIS) can not be used both by a TREX 7.0 32-bit and a TREX 7.1 64-bit system since the IIS can not run in 32-bit and 64-bit mode at the same time. Hence TREX 7.0 and 7.1 can not concurrently be accessed by HTTP.
    Best regards,
    Ralph

  • From SPL to TREX

    Hi
We are live with SPL screening since last May for vendors and customers only (BPs). We are really disappointed with performance and high hit rates (around 10%).
We had SAP consultants trying to improve the hit rate but due to the nature of our database and all the scenarios that we need to cover we could not find a solution so far.
I was told that TREX should help us to have a more accurate screening decreasing then the false positives.
Does anybody have experience with TREX? How is it to go from a SPL screening and start to use TREX? Is it too demanding to set it up? What about tests and configuration? Do we need to test all scenarios and tune the configuration settings again?
I appreciate any input on that matter.
    Thanks and regards,
    Debora.

I will second Jasmit's guidance, as we worked on the same TREX project, and since then I have had the chance to deploy TREX at three of the largest companies using GTS (with several million business partners each).
If you have concerns about hit rate or performance, TREX is not where you need to look.  TREX is a tool that will allow you to improve the quality of your matches by doing two things:
    1) Remove the "word within word" constraint that will prevent two very similar words from matching unless one of them is found entirely within the other.  There is no other way to eliminate this constraint and it is an enormous compliance gap.
    2) Prevent matches between words of drastically different lengths.  Without TREX, short words can block much longer words, simply because the short word can be found within the longer word.  This too cannot be configured away.
The first improvement will increase your hit rate, while the second will reduce your hit rate.  As Jasmit recommends, if you integrate TREX with changes to your native SPL settings, you can achieve a drastically higher quality of matches without a significant increase in your hit rate.
We've written quite a bit about this on our GTS blog at [GTS Blog|http://www.entrypointblog.com].

  • Using SharePoint as Content Server - Need

    Hello,
A customer is using Sharepoint to store all the documentation related to applications.  Now they have decided to use Solution Manager for the project management.  They want to discuss the advantages or not of moving all the documents into Solution Manager, whether they will loose some good features from Sharepoint. Also, do you find any issue, restriction regarding keeping all the documentation in the external Sharepoint, and just linking through URLs.
I would like to get your point of view regarding this integration, any experience, recommendations?
I appreciate your inputs so that we have a good base for the discussion with the customer.
    Regards
    Esteban

    Hi guys
We have been moving our entire application documentation from Lotus Notes to SAP Solution Manager this last year. Here is what we've learned.
When consolidating your documentation within Solution Manager you get some advantages and disadvantages, you can use your documentation seamless in your ITIL processes if you are using Solution to support this. We're unfortunately not using this feature
On the other hand one of the disadvantages when using Solution Manager is that you cannot make deep search, meaning that you can only search in document titles, not in the document content. To do this you need the [SAP TREX|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/a4/929d4206b70931e10000000a1550b0/content.htm] search bolt-on, which we've found a bit expensive
I'm currently lookin into the solution you described: Using Sharepoint as a DMS, enabling us to conduct search in document content.
I hope this information is useful to you - I'll follow this thread with great interest
    Best regards

  • Search for text in PDF binary

    Hello experts,
by using a SAP BI tool we generate reports in File format. SAP standard do some generating and give back an internal table with filename and file content in binary form.
Now we would like to search in this PDF binary for an special text or string to use them for changing filename.
Is there any way to do that? Every idea and hint is welcome.
    Best regards,
    Peter

Now we would like to search in this PDF binary for an special text or string to use them for changing filename. Is there any way to do that?
Based on your posting it sounds a bit like you're doing ABAP processing. However, I'll ignore that for now and just say that in the Java environment I have had good experience with the Java Library [iText PDF|http://itextpdf.com/]. I'm not sure what SAP offers in that area, but they must have something, because [TREX|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/a4/929d4206b70931e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm] "understands" PDF (though that doesn't mean that you have a nice API for parsing PDFs).
You probably investigated this already, but I'd take a look at possibilities to hook in before (or at the time) the PDF gets generated (might be easier to craft and export a filename there). Thanks to the [enhancement framework|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp2/helpdata/en/94/9cdc40132a8531e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm] you usually have quite a few ways to get things done...
Note that even if you're able to read a PDF, it doesn't necessarily mean that you can parse it the way you want. A silly example would be scanned pages, where the page is stored as an image and at best the scanner software runs some OCR (with possibly buggy results) to provide capabilities for searching the PDF. In your case that's probably not an issue, but still the question might be if the information you're looking at is structured enough to get it back...

  • Search for text in PDF by VBA with only Adobe Reader installed

My problem is widely known and frequenty posted, for instance:
"Can anyone help me to open and search for a specific text string in a PDF document, return a true or false indicator (and nothing else)?"
The answers mostly refer to and include
      Set gApp = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
which, as I understand, works only with a certain level of Adobe Acrobat being installed.
    My question now:
I want to give this type of functionality (via an MSAccess Form, i.e. populate a ComboBox with PDF filenames which answer YES to certain text occurences)  to - say 20 - users in my company who have Adobe Reader 9.1 installed and not more.
Bying this number of Adobe Acrobat licenses for just this purpose would be a heavy overkill which I just can't afford.
Any suggestions? many thanks in advance.
