Trouble configuring pxi 6289

I'm having trouble configuring the PXI 6289 DAQ. I have the PXI-1036 chasis along with the PXI-8336 MXI-4 control board. All the hardware seems to be installed correctly and I've installed all the drivers and software from the disks. When I launch MAX, under "Devices and Interfaces" I set the PXI System to be "External PC" and I set the chasis as PXI-1036. Under the chasis however, it detects the PXI system but it doesn't detect the DAQ in any of the slots.
I've tried switching the DAQ to the other slots as well as updating all the drivers but to no avail. Is there something basic that I'm missing?

Hey Scott-M
I can't see the card in device manager or under Devices and Interfaces in MAX. To be honest, I don't even see the PCI control board under device manager in Windows (I'm supposed to be able to see it correct?). I've also tried switching around the PCI card in different slots, I removed the sound card that I know was working, so it's definitely in a slot that's working. I wasn't the person who did the initial installation of everything, when I came everything was already set up and I was just supposed to configure things.  The hardware originally came with NI-DAQmx 8.7.1, but I've downloaded the latest version (NI-DAQmx 8.9.5) and installed it.
Thanks

  • Trouble configuring triggers with synchronized AWG and Digitizer

    Hi,
I have been working for a few weeks in my project now, and I have a problem concerning the use of triggering options :
I am using a 5412 AWG and a 5142 Digitizer, in a PXI chassis. I have synchronized them using the Ni-TClk blocks provided in Labview. Now, let me explain what I am trying to do.
I need to make sure that the data I will record with the digitizer will be exactly aligned with the start of the sequence I am generating with the AWG. This acquisition is triggered either by the user (let's say a clic on a button) or by an external analog trigger.
I am trying to do that using 2 different kind of triggers : Arm reference trigger and reference trigger.
I am exporting a signal (Marker Event) from the 5412, on the RTSI0 line. This event happens each time the AWG starts to generate a sequence I have defined. I would like the digitizer to trigger off of this event, but only when a event occured first (the user trigger or the external analog trigger). My idea was to generate an Arm Reference Trigger with the "niScope send software trigger Edge", and to "plug" the reference (stop) Trigger on the RTSI0 line.
According to the SMC based digitizers acquisition engine state diagram, the digitizer should start in the idle mode when I initiate the acquisition (with Ni-TCLK Initiate), then it should wait for a start trigger (defined as IMMEDIATE) then it should wait for an ARM reference trigger (the one I want to send by software, or later by an external source). Finally it waits for the reference (stop) trigger which would be the marker event on the RTSI0 line.
According to what I see in my VI, the digitizer seems not to wait for the ARM reference trigger, I guess it directly sees the reference trigger on the RTSI0 line (which happens quite often) without waiting for me to allow it to look for it.
Do you see a mistake in my thinking here? Is it possible to do what I propose? I was thinking that the fact that I use the TClk synchronization might be a source of my problem with the triggers...
If it is not possible to do what I propose, I was also thinking to do what I need another way : Is it possible to somehow combine the 2 events I want to trigger off of? I mean, is it possible to create my own signal which would be high when the external trigger and the marker event are both High, and Low otherwise? And then, route this signal in one of the RTSI lines, which would be the source of a digital triggering...
I hope you will understand what I'm trying to do, and that you will be able to help me.
Thank you very much in advance,
    Best regards
    Antoine Benard

    Hi Antoine,
I have been reading you post for a while and I have concluded
that it will help me a lot if I can have the code; if you were so kind to attach
it to the discussion forum, I will be more than glad to try on my test machine.
    “I
need to make sure that the data I will record with the digitizer will be
exactly aligned with the start of the sequence I am generating with the AWG.”  In this case, and I will
like to make sure I’m getting this correctly the 5412 is going to trigger the
5142 and either a user control or an external trigger is going to trigger the
5412. In this case the user control or the external trigger is going to start
or stop de generation on the fgen and the fgen will control the scope.  So what we really need to do is figure a way of  using multiple triggers  with the  5412.
    I
was also thinking to do what I need another way: Is it possible to somehow
combine the 2 events I want to trigger off of? You can handle this with
another card. Using card with change detection, you can the FGEN trigger from
    multiple sources.
I will wait for you answer to make sure I got everything correctly

I installed the 32gig msata and my x230 system identifies it as hdd-1 I tried removing the hdd-0 and used the restore disks to configure the system to boot from the msata, gets most of the way through and hangs every time. What do I need to do to configure the msata as disk 0 and make it bootable?

Sorry for these issues, the updates team is still working on getting all the updates published for the new systems like X230...
Bluetooth should be there starting from today.
I recommend not installing RapidBoot Shield unless you have personally tested it and determined that it makes your image boot faster and doesn't cause side-effects.
Intel USB 3.0 has a wrong dependency on RapidBoot Shield, the team is working on removing the dependency.  If you are using ThinInstaller you may be able to figure out how to remove the dependency from the XML file yourself...

  • Pxi 8360 power led flashes red

I have a PXI 8360 MXI Express board mounted in a PXI 1050 chassis. I am seeing the power LED occasionally flash red and I lose communication with the computer. The power LED will return to solid green status after a few minutes but I am not able to do much with NI DAQ to test the system since it has failed self test. The suspicion here is the power supply may be bad but how do we check that.
The system with the computer has worked well over the past several years and we are concerned about possible damage from a power fluctuation that happened here around Christmas time.

    Hi Xavier,
The red flashing light is on the PXI 8360. I have not seen any flashing lights on the chassis.
The modules present in the system are
    PXI 8360  MXI Express
    PXI 4071  7 1/2 digit flex DMM
PXI 4110  Programmable DC power supply
    PXI 4110
    PXI 4110
    PXI 8252  1394 Host Adapter
    TB 2627  multiplexer terminal block
PXI 6289  M series multifunction DAQ
    SCXI 1306
    SCXI 1303
    SCXI 1303
    SCXI 1300
So far all testing has been done with all modules installed. Another person has tried reseating all modules to see if that would fix the problem but it does not.
The system will work fine for a few hours and then the blinking LED will begin and somewhere near that time the communications fail with the computer. The light will blink for a few minutes and then will return to solid green. Once the error has occurred it seems that the only way to re establish proper operation is to shut down the whole system, PXI chassis and computer, and restart. I saw one time where the power LED on the 8360 went from flashing red to solid green when the computer was turned off.
The computer is  a Dell Precision 690 with PCIe 8361.
I will be opening up the chassis hopefully in the next day or two to check fuses and voltages where I can.

  • Hybrid PXI instruments

Of the instruments listed below are there any that have hybrid PXI/SCXI version like the PXI-6289 (779639-01 and 779123-01)?
    PXI-4072
    PXI-5122
    PXI-2567
    PXI-8430/16
    thanks,

I found the answer. The information is fragmented onto several documents/kb articles. On the chassis manual it tells you can use a PXI DAQ card to control the SCXI part, then just by chance you might find a kb that  (that address only chassis 1010/1011 so it really adds to the confusion when you look for controlling chassis 1050) it tells you can use any PXI M, E, etc which in turn send you to another Kb where you discover the production date when they stopped making cards with full length connectors which in turn links you to another kb that gives a list of cards that you can still request with the full length connector.
I guess a few things need to be updated on your website/documentation, if I might suggest:
The hybrid chassis manuals need an update to 2013 status of things, possibly including all infos about which cards can really control the SCXI through the backplane or at least a link to the kb.
The pictures of all PXI cards on your website needs to be updated to show the new connector, especially when you have an article about the SCXI control capabilities that shows the different connectors PXI Hybrid PXIe and Full Lenght connector and then you go to PXI DAQ cards product page and it nicely show you the card with a full length connector. (i.e. see the 6211 picture here http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/201614 or the 6225 here http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/201614).

  • PXI-1052 not detecting SCXI chassis

Full disclosure:  I've submitted a support request on this too, but knowing that it may take some time to go through I thought I'd ping the discussion boards for any ideas people here might have as well.
I have a PXI-1052 PXI/SCXI combo chassis with a PXI-6289 card serving as the SCXI controller. Up to this point, the chassis has been controlled by a PXI-8105 embedded controller running WinXP. We are changing this. The PXI-8105 controller is being removed and instead we will use an MXI card (PXI-8360) to allow us to control the chassis via an external computer running Win7 32-bit.
With the chassis on and connected, using the Win7 computer I can see the PXI slots and the cards in them are correctly identified by model number. However, I cannot see the SCXI portion of the chassis, and when I try to manually add an SCXI chassis I am told that there is no DAQ device installed to serve as the SCXI controller. In addition, the PXI-GPIB card which is also installed is acting a little strangely. It allows me to scan for instruments, and it sees all of my GPIB instruments OK, but I don’t see a GPIB bus defined separately under Devices and Interfaces the way I did on the old controller—the instruments just show up listed under the PXI card.
I have read the Knowledgebase article on auto-detecting SCXI instruments, but it doesn’t seem to offer anything helpful. Everything works fine if I put the old controller back in and use it again, so this isn’t an issue of a bad card/chassis or the wrong card or a blown fuse or SCXI power not being on/set correctly or the DAQ being in the wrong slot. (The ONLY hardware difference is the controller being replaced by MXI; everything else is exactly the same.) All NI software on the Win7 machine is installed and up-to-date, and I even reinstalled everything just to make sure I hadn’t gotten a bad install. It seems to me like it must be either a driver or a configuration issue, but I’ve combed through the Windows Device Manager and the settings for all cards involved and can’t find any differences.
    Screen shots attached.  Any ideas?

    Hello Sara_J,
I'm going to post to the forums with my suggestions from my email so that if we find the answer it will be available to the community as well.
As long as the 6289 is showing up incorrectly you're not going to be able to use the SCXI side of the chassis. The problem looks like your 6289 is not being associated as a DAQmx device. The alias it has in MAX is showing it as a generic VISA device. You'll have to manually associate the 6289 in device driver. Normally it would show up under Data Acquisition Devices with the NI logo in Device Manager. Since its not showing up correctly it may be located elsewhere, most likely under a PCI Standard PCI-to-PCI bridge (this is how the MXI card looks in Device Manger).
Once you find it, right click and select Update Driver Software...>>Browse my computer for driver software>>Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. You should then be able to pick the appropriate driver from the list.
If this does not fix the issue then I believe there may be a corruption in your installation of DAQmx. You can download the newest version (9.9) here: http://www.ni.com/download/ni-daqmx-9.9/4707/en/ .

  • Pxi pci mac

I recently purchased the pxi-8362 pcie board to communicate with a PXI-1042Q module from a macintosh.  I'm running OS 10.6 on a fairly new mac pro.  I was told by the sales team at NI that the PCI and PCIe boards worked on macs, but I can't get mine to show up.  I have the latest NI-VISA installed, with the latest NI-DAQmx Base package installed.  When I run NIVisaic, I can see the PXI board, but that's the only place.  None of the modules connected to it (PXI-6289, 6052e,6711, or 8232) show up anywhere else.  Also, the PCI board doesn't even show up in the apple system profiler.  It seems like I don't have the proper drivers, but I can't find any, and of course the cd that came with it is just for windows.  Any suggestions on how to install this?  I came across something about the Driver Wizard in NI-VISA, but I haven't had any luck with what to do with that.  Thanks in advance!

A good resource for drivers is www.ni.com/drivers. From there you can find any driver you need. For instance, we can confirm that you have the DAQmxbase 3.4.5 that is specifically for Macs or download it if necessary. Additionally, the latest non-Beta NI-VISA for Macs is version 5.0 and is also available. This website is useful  for all NI drivers that you will need for your hardware.

  • PXIe-1075 Power switch will not turn off chassis

    Hi,
I think I am having trouble turning my PXIe-1075 chassis off with the front mounted power switch. When I press the power switch, the green LED will ficker and the PWR LED on my PXIe-8360 MXI card will flicker from green to red and then back to green. I have a PXI-1042 chassis as well that seems to turn off properly. The switch on my PXI-1042 chassis has two positions, but the switch on my PXIe-1075 only seems to have one position. I am in a spot where I will need to power off my chassis to move it occasionally. Does it sound like my PXIe-1075 chassis has an issue? Am I missing something? I also tried holding the power switch. This will cause all the installed modules active light to turn off, but the PWR light on the switch and the PWR light on the MIX card will stay the same.

    Hello,
The 1075 has two modes for shutdown.  You can select between the modes with the 'inhibit' switch on the back of the chassis.  When this switch is in the default position, the chassis will power down when you shut down the controller in the chassis (I'm not sure if it will automatically power down with the MXI connection when you shutdown the PC- I do not believe it will).  When the switch is in the manual position, the chassis does not shut down with the controller and you must use the Inhibit signal on pin 5 of the Remote Inhibit and Voltage Monitoring connector.  I believe your chassis is in 'Manual' mode.  More information on this is available in the manual on page 2-12:
    http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/372537b.pdf
I do not think that the power button on the front can be used to power off the chassis.

  • RTDs with SC2345 and SCC-RTD01

    Hello,
I'm having trouble with some RTD measurements using the PXI-6289, SC-2345, and SCC-RTD01 setup. I've set up a DAQmx task in the project, using the following scheme:
    Name: RTD_Temperatures
    AI Channels 16, 17, 19, 21, 23
    Ro = 100
    PT3851
    0 to 250 deg F
    1mA external excitation
Acquisition Mode: 1 Sample (On Demand)
I'm using a 4 wire PR-12 RTD from Omega. I've also attached the code I'm inquiring about.
My issue is that I'm not getting the right value from the PXI for the RTD temp. I've measure the resistance at of the probe (109.3 ohms) with a voltage of 0.109V. Using those values, I verified the expected 1mA excitation source. Looking up the resistance of the probe and comparing to a R/T table, the temperature should have been ~75 degrees (which felt about right). However the "temperature" I read from the PXI was 562. I have 5 different channels, and each channel read the same when the probe was plugged into it. Without a connection to a probe, it was -400 or so. I figure it was just due to no connection. I'm concerned about the high reading.
I modeled the code after a thermocouple VI that we already use, and is proven. The Thermocouples connect to the other connector of the 6289 thru a SCC68. I figured changing the task to an RTD DAQmx task would be sufficient. The filter is just a smoothing filter. Any tips or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Peter,
    Thanks for your reply.
When I measured the resistance across the RTD probe, that was without the connection to the SCC module. The voltage was measure with the connection, of course. I also tried to measure the current out of the module by connecting all wires to the probe/SCC but running the power through the multimeter to the probe. However, I didn't ever get a value for the current. But taking the voltage and resistance I measured, the calculated current was 1 mA, which is what is expected.
I did try a simple task in MAX (3 actually: voltage, resistance, and RTD temp). However every value didn't match the expected. The MAX Temp task also gave exactly what the LabVIEW project produced. Here are the results from the tasks in MAX:
    RTD Task:
    max temp = 100; Temperature = 562
    max temp = 250; Temperature = 562
    max temp = 1000; Temperature = 2.489k
    Resistance Task:
    max ohm = 100; R = 104.9
    max ohm = 250; R = 525.9
    max ohm = 1000; R = 1.05k
    Voltage Task:
    max volt = 10; V = 2.73
    max volt = 1; V = 1.05
It seems strange to me that the measure values vary depending on the maximum. Is this due to internal (to the software) scaling of units? That seems plausible until the resistance task; resistance shouldn't change based on the maximum. I mean, it is what it is. I feel that this shouldn't be this convoluted; but maybe there's a step I'm missing somewhere along the way. It concerns me that I may be working the signal over twice, with having the SCC-RTD module AND RTD task?
I did play with the internal vs external current sources, and internal just gave me an error saying the device couldn't produce that. So I stuck with external (which I assume means the SCC is supplying) at 1mA. I also adjusted the sample rate from my code, but all that seemed to do was provide sporadic readings on the indicator.
I do appreciate your help, but do you have any other thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Rex

  • How to Measure Frequency to RPM NI-DAQmx Tasks

    Hello,
I am trying to measure frequency using NI DAQmx task and then convert this to an RPM if at all possible.
I have the following hardware options at my disposal.
I have SCXI 1126 Module along with a SCXI 1327 terminal, as well as a PXI 6289 Multifunction DAQ.
I have wired in a mag sensor to ai7 on my 1126 and when I pass a metallic object I get a amplitude of 6  - 8  so I am able to read the mag sensor.

So I would select new in "Custom Scaling"
    Then would I select linear?
Your calculations are simple but I am unsure if this would give me the desired result.  From my attachment I am seeing an input amplitude of 6 Hz for each pulse.  What I mean by this is that every time I bring a ferrous object near my mag pick up I get a pulse, this is what I was trying to illustrate in the attachment.  The analog pulse comes in a 6 Hz so I would simply multiple this pulse by 60 (assuming I get one pulse per rotation) to get RPM?
How would this make sense if I only input one pulse for a long duration of time?
I have notice the amplitude of the pulse input increases with increased pulse frequency.  Does this mean the lowest RPM I can record is 360 RPM?

For better memory performance, you would use a fixed size=500 array and replace the oldest element with the newest at each iteration. Keep track of the current element index with another shift regsiter.
Here is an old example tha keeps the last 10 values in a size=10 shift register and calculates the mean.

There is also the "collector express VI". Since it uses dynamic data, it's probably more demanding on resources.

  • Can the analog inputs be daisy chained to measure higher voltages?

Can the analog inputs of a PXI-6289 be connected in series to measure higher voltages than normally allowed at the analog inputs of the PXI-6289 (i.e. 10 VDC)?  For example, let's say I wanted to measure 18 VDC using an analog input channel of the PXI-6289.  I would then pick two AI channels and connect the positive of one to the negative of the other and then the two remaining leads would be placed across the 18 VDC.  Resistors could also be placed across the 18 VDC to form a votage divide.  One AI would measure the voltage across one resistor and the other AI would measure the voltage across the remaining resistor.  I have tried this and the voltage measurements appear to loose accuracy.  Thank you for your help.

    Hello Rafi,
You may want to invest in a high voltage attenuator for signal conditioning prior to reading the signal.  The documents below may also be helpful:

  • Configure a current clamp

    Hello
I have a fluke model 80i-110S Current clamp which I want to acquire an analogue signal from.
    I have a NI-BNC-2111 interface hooked into a PXI 6289 DAQ card.
I have verified that my current clamp is outputting 100 mv / amp of current
I have used LabViews DAQ assistant to configure a channel and I do not seem to be getting the expected response from the DAQ card.
My Voltage input channel is configured as listed below
I am trying to read a voltage input between -10 to 10 V using a 1 Sample (on Demand) Acquisition Mode.  I have cycled through all available terminal configurations however none of them seem to be accurately recording the input voltage.
Is there something I am missing on with the configuration of this channel?  When I tried to create a channel to record system voltage in conjunction with current the X Y plots seem to diverge from each other.

    Hello smoothdurban,
Since your current clamp is outputting 100mV/A, it is actually working as a resistance of 100m Ohm (R=V/I=100mV/1A=100mOhm).  Therefore, my suggestion would be to create an Analog Input Current task in your DAQ Assistant, set your shunt resistor to 100m, and configure your minimum and maximum current. This way you would be recording the current directly.

I want to use my PCI 6624 for measuring of frequency signals from a gear flow meter. The problem is that when I start running the VI there is no pulses from the flow meter and the VI stops to run and I get a Timeout error message. I.e is it possible to measure 0 Hz with the 6624 input used for frequency measurement?
With hardware from IOtech and Daisylab I don`t have this kind of problem.
                                        /Thanks in advance

    Having similar problem,
Did you manage to resolve the issue?
I have attached the the solution given by NI for error code 200474, if its any use. The problem I have just found with this Vi is that if one channel has no signal it forces the other channel to grind to a halt. This problem has existed for me on the cards being used in this project PXI-6289 and PXI-6236, also other DAQ cards used in a different project earlier in the year.
It seems to be a serious flaw in the application of the NI DAQ cards to general purpose data logging where counter signals might not be connected by the end user or they are very low frequency and the whole system hangs.
