I was attempting to purchase a music CD for $16.99 with an account balance of $17. and change. Why did iTunes Store request updated credit card information?
Because you do not have enough to pay for the cd and the tax

Tap on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and select View Apple ID on the popup and log into your account - one of the lines on the screen that you are taken to is Payment Information, which if you tap on should show your payment details. You can also do it on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View My Account menu option

Somehow the country associated with my account was changed to China. I did not make this change. My credit card information needs to be updated but the system will not let me update either my credit card information or the country back to the United States. My updated credit card information is not accepted because the country is China. It will not allow me to change the country until the credit card information is changed. Help!!!

My ex-boyfriend stole my email address and credit card information to make purchases with Apple and now my Apple ID has a balance. I only have a 2.10 balance due to him, but I just want to find out if there is a way to erase it because of this circumstance.
You need to immediately pull credit reports to see what else he has done. Then "freeze" the credit report at all three agencies. That way even you need to lift the freeze to add credit cards or other credit items to your SSN.

I just redeemed an iTunes gift card code and then tried to buy a movie. But iTunes keeps asking me to enter the details of a valid credit card. I had been buying apps, music and movies on multiple Apple devices without any credit card information. I just used the iTunes gift cards. But suddenly iTunes just would't allow me to do that any more. I wonder why... How can I keep using the money I have redeemed from iTunes gift cards without entering any credit card information?

I can't seem to update my apps or make any purchases on from my account. Nothing has changed with my credit card information and for some reason the iTunes Store tells me my information is incorrect. What do I do?
Yes, it's frustrating.
I don't have my iPod with me but, as I recall, the change is done in Settings/Store. That change will apply to NEW purchases. However, be aware that all purchases are permanently associated with the Apple ID that was originally used. Generally, it's only a problem when you need to update an app. IF you do your updating from iTunes and your logged in to the "wrong" ID, you'll need to log out and back in again. It's easier from the iPod as you do not need to log out/in but you do need to know the password.
Unfortunately, you can not merge IDs nor can you transfer purchases from one ID to another. Go here to find out exactly what you have. I have the same problem so I deliberately made both passwords identical to make things slightly easier for me. -
