TS4006 "Is the Find my Mac feature available for an OSX 10.7.4 MacBook?"

Is the Find My Mac feature available for an OSX 10.7.4 MacBook?

Here's the troubleshooting section you referred me to, and the response;
The date on your device is incorrect. This can be set in Settings > General > Date & Time.
I have verified the time and date
Your device is not up to date. It needs to have iOS 5 or later.
It's a MacBook using OSX 10.7.4
Your iCloud account is not configured on your device. Enter your iCloud account information in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
When I try to do this, I get into the loop that I will try to describe more completely below:
1. In System Preferences, I select iCloud, where I have only one option - "Move to iCloud" I click on that sole option.
2. I'm taken to www.me.com/find page, where I Log In using my Apple ID and then I see a very large statement, "To use Find My iPhone, go to iCloud.com." - with only one button available - "Open iCloud.com" - I click on that sole option.
3. I'm asked to enter my user name and password again, which I do
4. The page that occurs next is a secure iCloud site - https//:www.icloud.com/#find
5. My iPhone and iMac are listed under "My Devices," but not the MacBook.
I can see no opportunity to enable "Find my Mac" the MacBook, because Preferences/iCloud leads me back into the loop described above.
You have multiple iCloud accounts entered on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Only one account can have Find My iPhone turned on at a given time. Log in to Find My iPhone with your other iCloud accounts until your device is listed.
I have viewed my Apple ID account and can find no sign of multiple iCloud accounts.
You have already initiated a wipe of the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The device will not appear on the page until it is reconfigured with your iCloud account information.
I have not "wiped: the MacBook, and don't see how this could be the problem.
There is scheduled maintenance or another issue affecting Find My iPhone. Check iCloud Support to see if this is the case.
iCloud support indicates that the system is operating fully.
Your device has lost network connectivity. If you have access to your device and it appears to have an active Internet connection, enable and then disable Airplane mode. If you continue to have issues, turn the device off and back on.
It's a MacBook with a good WiFi connection to a known system. There is no Airplane mode on the MacBook.
Find My Mac can only locate your Mac if it is connected to an internet via a known Wi-Fi network. If your Mac is connected to the internet only by an ethernet cable, Find My Mac will not be able to locate your Mac.
Again, it is connected to a known WiFi system - my house. It's the same system that my iMac is connected to, and the iMac appears as a listed Device in iCloud "Find My Phone"
To be sure, I ran Disk First Aid and restarted my MacBook, and also ran Repair Disk Permissions twice.
Same symptoms have not been resolved.

Run Disk Utility, and Verify Disk.
You will likely notice errors that require you to reboot to the Recovery Partition, and run Disk Utility from there, to "Repair Disk".
After running Repair Disk, reboot to the main partition, and run Repair Permissions from Disk Utility.
Then install the Recovery System Update again.
I bet your problem will be solved.

  • Find My Mac not available

I have just moved from MobileMe to the iCloud service and I was willing to use the Find My Mac feature. But, on the iCloud Preference Pane, the only option that is not available for clicking is the Find My Mac one. There is a message right below this option stating that I need an admin password to enable this. I have tried to put my admin password in other panes (clicking on the lock at the bottom of the pane), but the iCloud Pane seems not to recognize this. I really don't think this feature should only be enabled from the admin user account in my Mac, so perhaps there's a caveat I don't know of... Can someone help me?

See if you have a recovery partition installed. Hold down the option key while booting right after you hear the startup chime. Keep holding down the option key until you see the Apple Logo and spinning gear. If you don't see the recovery partition listed as an option from which to boot it has not been installed.
You can install the recovery partition by downloading the full 10.7.2 installer from the App Store and installing it over your current Lion installation. This should not overwrite any of your data but back up first just be safe.  In order to download from the Ap Store hold down the option key when clicking on the Purchases tab and the Install button should become active.
I don't use Boot Camp but it is my understanding that a hard drive with Boot Camp installed can not have more than four partitions. The recovery partition counts as a separate partition so if you have Boot Camp installed and four existing partitions the recovery partition will not install.

  • TS4006 Cant get Find my mac to work on icloud, please help

    Hello,

You need 10.8.2 on the iMac in order to use the Find My Mac  feature of iCloud: iCloud: System requirements.
Note: Although you can use iOS 5 and OS X Lion as noted above, you will not be able to take advantage of some iCloud features, such as Shared Photo Streams, iCloud Tabs, Find My iPhone Lost Mode, and Find My Friends location-based alerts.

  • How to password protect "Find My Mac" feature?

Anyone know how I might password protect the "Find My Mac" feature that's accessible in the iCloud System Preference Pane?  My reasoning is that if someone stole my computer while I was still logged in, it seems far too easy for the thief to simply navigate to the iCloud System Preference screen and uncheck "Find My Mac" to prevent me from tracking down the computer.  Many of the other System Preferences can be padlocked -- seems like this feature should be as well.  Any ideas?

    Old Toad,
If I password protect my user account, then the person who has stolen my macbook would not able to login. Hence the macbook will not be able to connect to the internet because it could be a new WIFI network that my macbook has not logged in before. If it is not connected to the internet, then we cannot locate it.
Ideally, we should allow the thief to login to the macbook and allow him to use the WIFI. The iCloud settings should alone be password protected so that the thief will not be able to tinker with that. This way the macbook will come online (which ever wifi network it is) and we will be able to locate it.
    Thanks

  • TS4006 I lost my iPad. I located it using the Find My iPad feature. I got an e-mail from Apply stating it had been found. What does this mean? Does this mean someone used it, tried to use it or what?

I lost my iPad. I located it using the Find My iPad feature. I got an e-mail from Apply stating it had been found. What does this mean? Does this mean someone used it, tried to use it or what?

When you say an email from Apply, do you mean that the sender is named "Apply"?  If so, what is their full email address (e.g. [email protected])?

  • TS4006 What's to keep someone from just unchecking the "Find my mac" button?

There is no lock for the "Find my Mac" option, so what's to keep a person that steals my computer from just unchecking the box?

This issue here is on the Mac, not an iPhone pvonk.
I would sooner try to keep a thief from my data first which can also help keep them out of the settings. First steps is to set your Mac to not "Automatically Login" in System Preferences/Users and Groups/Login Options. There are also settings in Security & Privacy/General for requiring the User's password when the computer sleeps or enters a screen saver.
If they can't log in to your system they can't change settings. But you are correct in thinking there should be a lock in the iCloud Preferences Pane. Send Apple Feedback a note.  http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Could I still use the "find my mac"-app if I downgraded from OSX Lion to Snow Leopard?

In the beginning of 2012, I had the great misfortune of getting robbed and all my recording equipment was stolen, including my macbook pro 17" running on OSX Snow Leopard.  I was able to buy a new macbook, same as the old one, but with the OSX Lion.  It didn't take long before I noticed that it wasn't running as smooth as the previous OSX.  At first I thougt it was the hardware; Steve Jobs had just died and I thought the people at Apple felt like they could finally ditch the high standards that were once enforced upon them and go Windows on our *****.  But I soon learned it was the software.  After re-purchasing my recording-software and trying and failing to install it, time after time, I got to a point where I just wanted to smash the whole thing and throw it out the window...  Fortunately I managed to get a hold of myself.  Now, I still want to get rid of the osx Lion and downgrade, but I don't want to have my stuff stolen again at some point and then find out that not only will Apple not pay out the insurance I payed for, but also I can't find my macbook anywhere, because I don't have this stupid application anymore because I downgraded.  So, I was wondering if there's any chance to have the best of both worlds. (or the best of one world and then just the other/previous world)  The only thing that's good about Lion is the "find my mac"-app.  All the rest utterly ***** ***!!
    Sincerelly,
    a very disgruntled mac-user.

"Find my Mac" is an OS X Lion feature and is not available in Snow Leopard. So if you want Find My Mac in yor MacBook Pro you'll be stuck to OS X Lion.
I don't know what else to tell you other than consider buying Lo-Jack for laptops.
    Hope this helps!

  • HT5621 What do you do when you've lost access to your e-mail and your apple ID and have no way to reset them? (with the find my iPhone feature enabled)

    Hi
I've lost access to my e-mail and my apple ID. No way to reset them. It's a hotmail email address and Microsoft is refusing to reset it even after I provided all the necessary proof of ownership.
    2 problems:
I can't switch to a new apple id and loose all my purchased apps
I can't switch to a new apple id as I'm being asked for the password of my current apple id - to disable the 'find my iPhone'-feature
How do I proceed as my device is virtually unusable as is ..
    Many thanks

This is a user to user community, Apple are unlikely to read your comments, if you have any suggestions that you think might enhance iCloud you can send Apple your feedback here.
We also can't speculate on what exactly iOS 7's new security features will actually do, all that's available is what has been said so far by Apple, anyone using a developer version is forbidden to discuss it anywhere but in the developers community.

  • How can I edit the Find my Mac Application

I have just added the find my Mac application/ feature for my Mac Book Pro,
and there is no name for it

It's not a stand alone application; it is part of iCloud - you should be able to find it in the iCloud Pane in System Preferences. Here is some info on it:

I changed my ICloud account  ID but my new phone won't let me change it unless I put in my old password and turn off the find my phone feature. But the phone will not recognize my old password. Can someone help me?

New iPhones don't come setup with an Apple ID/Password. What you're experiencing is called Activation Lock, & unless you know the original Apple ID/Password that was originally used to first activate this phone, you won't be able to reactivate it.
You can login to iCloud.com, from any computer, use Find My Phone to locate & erase the phone. But, you'll still need to know the original Apple ID/Password to reactivate it.

  • HT1349 I need to turn off the "find my phone" feature on my iPhone 5.  The company I worked for took back their iPhone and now I cannot receive texts on my new LG F6 phone.  Can I do this w/o the serial number?

I replaced my iPhone 5 with an LG F6 phone and now I cannot receive text messages from my friends with iPhones.  Can somebody please tell me where to go to turn off the "Find your phone" feature and what ever else I need to turn off to accomplish this objective?  Thank you.
    Isotope Joe

Find My iPhone has nothing to do with receiving or not receiving text messages.
What you should have done is turn off iMessage prior to handing over the device.
