TS4185 Facetime on new IMAC not working

My apple id doesn't work at all (says network issues).  I looked at the troubleshooting guide and everything is set as it should.  I tried going to Facetime
"preferences" but I can't even select it.  Operating on 10.7.4.  I bought this computer today and facetime has not worked at all or ever had the preferences option able to be selected.  Help.

Same thing happens to me.
I purchased OS X 10.8.2 and am trying to use Facetime on my Intel Based iMac .  I have repeatedly done all of the following:
#1 -
Verify your Mac meets the FaceTime system requirements
  Model Name:
iMac
  Model Identifier:
iMac9,1
  Processor Name:
Intel Core 2 Duo
  Processor Speed:
2.93 GHz
#2
Verify that you are using a valid Apple ID at appleid.apple.com.
#3
Check that your email address is verified in  FaceTime > Preferences.   This info. from Apple is wrong.  My FaceTime Preferences are grayed out!
I can't believe that Apple has gotten so bad!  As my User Name shows, this iMac is my 18th Mac.  I began with an Apple IIe.  For heaven's sake if anyone knows why FaceTime doesn't work given all I've tried please give me a clue as to what I need to do.

  • New imac not working properlyHELP

Hi I have had a new imac for a week. I cannot get on to an apple site at all, had to get here with my Sony laptop. It just hangs when I try to load an apple website, and if I get it to load, I cannot get to support pages WHY
Also today iphoto stopped working, it says it needs to be upgraded, and just closes. What gives
    Help please

So far, what you describe does not sound like a hardware problem. Try creating a new user admin user account
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
It may just be you current user account is corrupted in some way, and therefore "broke."
Log out of your usual account (from the bottom of the Apple menu). You will get to the login screen, where you should see that new account you created. Select it and log in to the new account. Your iMac will be using fresh user preference files in the new account. Try the same things that do no work in your usual account.

  • New Imac - not sure if this is the right thread, sorry!

Hi there, my mother has just purchased a new Imac, (not sure which one sorry) and it is missing IMovie, although it seems to have all of the other i life applications...I have searched applications and hard drive, but it does not seem to be there - any ideas??? Thanks in advance.

It should be installed. If it got deleted accidentally, find Disc 1 of the discs that came with the Mac.
On the disc, there should be a link for +Install Bundled Software Only+. Double-click that icon to launch Installer. Go through the initial screens, and click the Customize button when it comes up. De-select (uncheck) everything except for iMovie HD.
    Then click the Install button.

  • Password for imessage on my imac not working

I went on vacation for a week. The imac was turned off. I turned it one today. Everything works except for imessage and facetime. I was asked for the appleID passwords for both and entered them in but they failed. The AppleID password worked fine for iTunes. I changed it anyway. Message and Facetime still do not work. Nor does the new password work on my ipads anymore. ***?

  • New iMac Not Recognizing iBook Running In Target Mode

Help!! I am helping a friend transfer all of her files and settings from her old iBook to a new iMac. I have repeatedly followed the instructions for using the Migration Assistant but the new iMac does not recognize the iBook after it is started in Target Mode. I have switched cables, zapped the pram, used the startup disk to repair disks and permissions. I can plug in an external firewire drive and it recognizes it immediately. I was called Apple Support, talked with first layer technician, was put on hold for next level of technician, put phone on speaker, person came back, said they couldn't hear me and hung up. Called back and low and behold it was quitting time. Very, Very frustrated.

Several posters have reported this. A solution that has worked for some is to place a powered firewire hub between the two machines (if you external FW disk is self powered and has two FW ports, that might work).

  • My facetime and imessages are not working properly.Although the apple id sign in is working the verufucation process isnt...please help.

im a new apple user...my facetime and imessages do not seem to be working properly...although when it asks to sign in and i do get through that window but when the verification process comes i dont know what happens but i am sent back to the sign in window....please help.

I assume you have turned the Bluetooth on.... (Bluetooth not working).
On the iPad, try a reset (hold the power and home keys down until the Apple logo appears). I do not have an iPhone so I have no suggestion there.

  • Yosemite & new iMac not seen using 5Gz wireless

I have a new iMac and an older macbook pro plus a number of other devices on my home network.
All my devices connect using 2.4GHz wireless except my iMac which uses 5 GHz wireless. Everything was working fine up until I upgraded to Yosemite OS X. Now all my devices on the 2.4 GHz wireless can see each other fine. But they can't see my iMac and my iMac can't see them. The error is "no route to host". The firewall on the iMac is off so it should work.
So it seems related to the fact that my iMac is on the different wireless frequency, as all the other devices are fine. I upgraded both my macbook and iMac to Yosemite so it is not Yosemite purely at fault. There seems to be a problem routing from my iMac to the other devices on the BT Hub.
I think it is a BT Hub 5, it's certainly very recent.
    Any help?

    Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply. It didn't work however. I reset the hub, and my devices so they all reset all their connection information.
    To be clear,
I have the iMac - with newly installed OS X Yosemite, it connects to the hub fine and has internet connection fine through the hub. It is connected on 5 GHz wireless.
I have a macbook pro - with newly installed OS X Yosemite, it connects to the hub fine and has internet connection. It connects at 2.4 GHz wireless.
I have a bunch of other devices on the network that connect at 2.4 GHz wireless.
If I ping a device from my macbook it gets a reply and can see them fine. If I ping my iMac it times out, i.e. it can't see the iMac.
Likewise I can't ping any devices from my iMac.
This is a bit of a problem as I use my iMac as a home server for music and films.
It used to work fine when both my iMac and MBP were on Mavericks. It only started happening when I upgraded to Yosemite. Though Yosemite works fine on my MBP.

  • How do i get new imac to work with windows

I'm new to the imac world, how do I get it to work with windows

If you are talking about MS Windows then you need to launch either Boot Camp or run it in Virtualization app such as Parallels or VM Fusion.  You also need a valid license of MS Windows. However if that is not what you mean then you must be much more specific. For example:
"I want to share some files between my PC running Windows 7 and my new iMac running 10.9.3, how do I go about that?"

  • WLan connected, iPad and iPhone internet ok, iMac not working after trying everything (manual ip etc...)

I am quite new with a mac computer. But i think i nearly tried everything, i have no idea what else could help...
My iPhone and iPad are working perfektly in the wlan. My iMac works very rarely. Yes it worked once by manual ip, but later it did not work again.
Wlan always works (sometmes it takes a few seconds until thesymbol is fat, mostly it starts with "no internet")
    I tried so many things...
    - manual ip found out by my windows pc
    - $ in front of the password
    - the apple faqs on the websites
Very strange, but i hope someone solved an comparable problem already ;)
    Thx!

I had a surfstick before, does that influence the whole thing?
And another thing: in other wlans the iMac worked perfectly... Without any manual settings etc.
    Anyone an idea?

  • Wi-fi on iMac not working, but works on other laptops

    Hi there,
I've recently moved back home with my new iMac, and when I went to try to set up wi-fi on it for the first time, it didn't work. I received a message that "Wi-fi has the self-assigned IP address ____ and will not be able to connect to the internet.". I don't understand why it's not working when I'm currently typing this from my macbook pro which connects perfectly fine, as well as my iPhone, and my parents laptops as well. The wi-fi worked perfectly fine at my old placres
I've tried resetting my modem and router, restarting my computer, turning wi-fi on and off, deleting the keychain access for the network, and tons of other suggested solutions but to no avail. I also just tried manually imputting my IP and that told me it connected, but the network icon still showed an exclamation mark, and I wasn't able to load any websites.
Needless to say, I'm extremely frustrated about this, and nothing seems to work. Are there any other solutions I can try? I really don't know what would be causing this.

When you see an exclamation point in the Wi-Fi menu, from the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
