Twist Depot Replacement

What type of computer does Lenovo generally offer as a replacment if they decide not to fix your computer?
My Lenovo Twist is currently being repaired under an extended depot warranty.  They have escalated the case to someone who has to make the decision whether to replace or fix it as they've been searching for parts for weeks.
My Twist however is a top of the line Core i7 with 8 gb of RAM and a SSD drive with every option.  I can't find a comparable Thinkpad (business grade) convertible with an i7 Processor on Lenovo's website.  The closest thing is a Thinkpad Yoga, which I can only order with an i5.
What does Lenovo generally offer as a replacment if they don't decide to fix your computer in a situation like this?

Well, through the secret method of not really doing anything differently, it's managed to work itself out.  I made sure that I didn't have the volume mounted, and that I'd closed out of Terminal, and when I tried again I got the dialog box again asking whether I'd like to re-use the old backup.  I said yes, it examined somewhere over a million files, decided to backup about 2GB of changes, and it's running fine since then.  I wish I could say why, to be more helpful - but, so it goes.
Thanks again!

  • Can hard disk be replaced with larger capacity of SSD or SATA disk?

Weighing on buying a Twist, can I replace the hard disk with larger capacity SSD or SATA disk? Is there any capacity limit on SATA disk? Are SSD and SATA disks compatible for Twist (say replace SSD disk with SATA disk or vice versa?
    Many thanks.

the Twist's hdd is a 2.5 inch 7 mm drive, which you can upgrade to any other SATA disk of this size either platter or SSD.

  • Flat rate for Apple Depot screen repair?  Downside?

I'm sure I could have found a better place for this, apologies in advance.
My friend's A1226 display is glowing, but striped and basically not working. Took it to a store and they said $450 repair in-store, $350 for the Apple depot. Are they assuming the display is no good, even though it might just be the cable? Is that covering a display repair? Is there a downside to the depot service, is it warrantied? I suggested he take that route as I didn't want to be involved in repairing the LCD, expensive proposition and dangerous if I mess it up or the issue is not the LCD. Is it going to get to the depot only to have them say its more?
Appreciate any guidance you can give.

Here is my experiance with Apple Depot...
Like many 2011 macbook pro my screen started to act up and ended up turning off (reports of issues with the GPU - logic board)
Took it to Apple, gave me 2 options...
1-In store repair which would cost more than $900 only for the logic board 0_o
    2-Depot repair for $310
    Guess which i chose?!..
Sent my 2011 macbook pro on wednsday and recieved it on the following tuesday
Depot replaced my logic board, memory ram, screen hinges AND battery...
    All for $310

  • MBP randomly shuts down every few hours (while plugged in)

MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2009
3.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Battery has been shoddy for a few years now. Only lasts about 15-30 minutes, but I just use the power cord.
Recently, the MBP (with cord plugged in) has been randomly shutting down every few hours. Immediately prior to shutting down, the status bar says the battery is fully charged, and I can unplug the cord, and there are no issues. When restart the computer, the battery will now say it's anywhere from 0-60% full.
The fact that the MBP shuts down even with the cord leads me to believe it's a logic board issue. If that's the case, what's the best option?
    I figure I can either:
    1. Replace just the battery and assume the healthy battery will weather any logic board lapses
    2. Replace both the battery and the logic board
My local Apple Store said they could replace the logic board and battery for $300 total.
Is this necessary, and if so, is it worth buying the parts and trying to replace myself?

Yes, it's the flat-rate depot repair.
Ok, you've (mostly) answered my primary concern... I was wondering what would happen if it turns out this isn't a logic board issue, and if my $310 would go to waste. The thing is that, right now, my MBP appears to be working perfectly fine until it randomly shuts off, which can take a few hours. So, if the depot replaces the logic board + battery, the MBP appears to be working there (I can't imagine they'll test it for more than 5 minutes), the depot sends it back, and after hours of use, I still have the same issue, I'll be able to get a refund, yes?
If so, I'll probably just opt for this deal since replacement parts on eBay appear to be about the same price.
    Thanks for the help!

  • If I download Maverick on a 17" macbook pro 3.5 years  old will instill sync with my first generation i-Pad?

If I download Maverick on a 17" Macbook pro i-core 7 thats 3.5 years old Will it still sync with my i-Pad that was purchased on 11/30/2010
    with Serial# GB*******Z38?

I am having this EXACT SAME ISSUE.
I had just sent in my MacBook Pro 1,2 for repairs, and Depot replaced my Main Logic Board. Windows and my x1600 worked before the repair. It makes perfect sense that a replacement of the logic board would throw stuff off like this; however, I don't see why this is an error of such a grandeur.
Now, to my dismay, my ATi x1600 doesn't want to work in Windows: It's a driver issue that I, quite franky, feel that Apple doesn't care about. I took it to a 'Genius' Bar, and they told me the usual, « It's Boot Camp, we don't support the drivers. »
The only way to get it to "work" is if I disable all hardware acceleration, thus disabling DirectX: That means no games, no Adobe Premier, and no software that I use for my school.
Pfft, I'm sending my computer back for the 3rd time within two months ... I doubt they're going to do anything ...

  • Macbook won't boot 100% of the time

I've got a black macbook that had a hard drive failure. an apple service depot replaced with a 500gb. in the past couple of days, it's been a bearcat to boot.
Many times a white screen comes up after the apple chime. wait long enough and the blinking folder comes up. This is 60% of the time. With enough shut downs it will boot into OSX 10.4.11.
I have tried the disk utility and fsck with no errors found.
I'd hate to go through shipping to have the HDD replaced if that's it.
    Any ideas?

Check your Startup Disk control panel and make sure your hard drive is highlighted in there.

  • Lenovo Twist 230U - Hard Drive replacment, how to get recovery disk

I bought this laptop about a year ago from Staples, all of a sudden my hard drive started clickin and has now died.  I just want to replace the hard drive, but how do I get a valid install of Windows 8 for this?

    Hello,
You should be able to order factory recovery media by calling Lenovo tech support.  Keep in mind you will also need an external USB DVD drive to install it, as the ThinkPad S320u does not have one bulit into it.

  • Replacing the internal HD with a twist.

Usual situation. Replacing Imac 17in 80gb internal with 320gb.
    Current equipment.
    Imac G5 17in 80gb
USB (not FW) External drive with data (not just backup) with 100gb free
Used super duper to create a backup sparse image.
    Wanted to.
    Install new HD
Boot off OS X Install disks
    Format new drive
Mount backup image thats in a directory on the external USB drive.
    Restore.
But when I boot off install disk you don't seem to get the option to mount any images?
I thought you would be able to open a finder?
    Is there a way?
Other options (besides buying another HD case FW.
    1) Stick the new internal in the USB external case and create a bootable backup with super duper?
    How hard is this?
    1) Wipe the USB external (lots of DVD burning required first) and apply a complete superduper backup.
Will I be able to 'restore' from the external disk from the boot disks using disk utility?

We have success (so far its still working)!
Process : Create a supperduper read-only image on the external USD hard drive.
    Install new harddrive
    Reboot under 10.4 install DVD
    Open diskutility.
    Format new drive.
    Select Restore.
Select the backup.dmp as the source from the external USB drive.
Select new HD as the destination.
    Many hours later.
Open StatupDisk and select the new HD.
    Restart and cross your fingers.
    Lessons learnt.
Disk utility will not allow you to select a sparseimage directly until its mounted.
In my original tests to use the sparseimage I was booting of a 10.3.5 install disk. The Install options are restricted so there is no way to mount the image first.
Under 10.4 install disk you can open a terminal session and manually mount the sparseimage which then pops-up for diskutility to select.
I actual ended using a superduper 'read-only' backup which was a dmg which all diskutility versions recongnised.

  • HT1476 my iphone 5 chargers wires got twisted and now wont charge. will apple replace it?

iphone 5 charger has been acting up the past few days. would have to tilt it tomake it charge. now it will not charge at all. will apple replace this? i have only had it for two months.

If you are referring to the cable, all package contents are included with the iPhone's warranty.
Each warranty claim is on a case by case basis. If Apple determines this was not caused by accidental damage or abuse, the cable should be exchanged under warranty but only Apple can answer this for certain.

  • X220 came back from depot with one dead pixel on new replaced panel

I bought my X220 on May, 2011. It was working great up until last month when suddenly several dead pixels(around 5) appeared on the IPS panel. They were dark dots scattered on the mid bottom part of the display, and were invisible only on dark images. I tried various stuck pixel fixing programs for several hours with not good result.
I called the support number for Canada, explained the issue and immediately got a call number and a box was on the way.
Yesterday I received the X220 back after a week and half, which is quite fast for what I expected the service time to be in Canada. When I turn on the machine I immediately notice some backlight bleed on the bottom on the screen given that the old one didn't have any. I thought it would not bother me since I could only see it if displaying dark backgrounds, which is rare for me once in Windows. But I also notice one dead pixel on the mid bottom right of the screen, and it looks darker and bigger than the ones in the old screen. Anytime I'm looking at anything bright colored I see it.
As of now, while I'm at work the X220 is running UDpixel at home to see if it gets fixed. I was wondering if Lenovo would grant me another repair call seeing that the dead pixel bothers me more than the ones in the old panel, although it is only one.

    @pacho,
You can try taking a picture of the screen showing the backlight bleed and try contacting support and see if they can get it replace again. Do let them know your previous case number as well.
    Lenovo dead pixel policy here.

However I am not sure if it applies to IPS panels.

  • Replacing wireless card for Twist (whitelisted 5Ghz card)?

    Hello,
I unfortunately bought Intel Wifi card and learned that it cannot be used due to whitelisting of cards...
The laptop had a lower spec Intel card.
I would like to switch to dual band (2.4 & 5 Ghz) card that has BT 4.0.
Which options do I have and where to buy it (part number) ?
    Thanks!

Everthing is whitelisted except your current one. GG

  • I would like to replace my home phone wiring

I suspect that there are some intermittent issues with my home wiring. The original wiring included the old round jack plugs and sockets, which was updated to the newr 'Plan 4' wiring system, sometime in the 1970s. I do think that there are some issues with BT but, I need to make sure that I am squeeky clean before involving them. I am quite confident about tackling the home wiring problem and would be up for taking out the 40 odd year old wiring and replacing it with a single properly wired extention, at the same time, remaining legal with BT.
What I propose to do, is to disconnect the house wiring from the master BT box and then just have one cable running about 5 or 6 metres to a second connector box. Pleas could anyone recommend the type of cable to use? I do have some of the old grey BT single strand 3 twisted pair but, I suspect the cable used these days is of a higher spec, with a tighter twist. I would greatly appreciate comment/advice. Best Wishes. Harry H.

The Current front plate is the split plate witb Openreach logo. this was installed some six years ago during a line fault investigation. Tim Smedly mentions a front plate with separate sockets for Phone and Broadband! I presume with this, each device still requires a filter unit. Are these front plates available in the local Maplin store or do you have to get them via BT?
Incidentally, whilst searching our garage for the Krone inserter, I came across a real of cable, made by Duratube & Wire Ltd.
The label says 4 wire (two pair) telephone cable, spec 1308. The pairs are enclosed in a round white sheath. as my mum used to say, "we are short of nothng that we have got" Once again, thank you for your very helpful reply. Harry H.

  • IMac 8.1 3.06 GHz w/6 MB Ram, Lion and dead HD? all I get is "Gray Screen w/wirlie gig" but now for a new twist a circle with a diagonal line, like don't go. Is this a DEAD HD?

I have a iMac 8.1 3.06 GHz w/6 MB Ram, and was running Mac OS X 10.6.8. My 500 GB WD5000AAKS was about 90% full. I had an issue with the admin password, it would not accept any of my known passwords. I ran for a while on the fingerprint reader I had, we have two users on the machine in our home. I tried many attempts to fix this problem without success I came up with a plan. That plan was a new HD, used a 2TB Samsung. plan worked like a charm. Installed a 4 GB Ram Chip and the new Samsung, formatted it, loaded Snow Leopard, and loaded what was on my Time Machine backup all was good.
This was early July, then Lion was available I was happy with what I had, I had 1.450 TB of free space. So, what the heck, lets spring for Lion, that even went well for a not even 2 weeks, enough that I had several Time Machine backups.
Then monitor goes flash, flash then I try a re-boot same gray screen with whirlie gig that I had when the the HD in my MacBook Pro died. Put the old 500 GB WD back in and all was fine, ran for a day. It was OK except back to no password and full. Went down to my local computer shops here in Rayong Thailand and sprung for a New 2 TB WDXXX, put that in, used my Snow Leopard disk to format and load OS X 10.6.8. I though that all was good, the load from Time Machine was slow and the time remaining was changing all the time, took about 3 hrs for about 300 MB that where on the LaCie.
Now I have a password issue, however it asks for a password reset that it will NOT take and I don’t even get that now. All I get is the infamous “Gray Screen w/wirlie gig” but now for a new twist a circle with a diagonal line, like don’t go. Is this a DEAD HD? I plan to re-install the old 500GB just to systems check and if all is well I will take the “NEW” 2 TB WD back for replacement. I am thinking that I should put the new HD in and format and load Snow Leopard then up date to Lion then do my Time Machine backup. The only problem is does the circle with the diagonal line mean something more? If so how does one recover Lion with no disk if that is what I need to do. Yes, I have tried control “R” on boot, nadda, no response, “mai dee” no good. Ideas, please.

I have an iMac 8, 1 that I upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard.  It was totally updated with the latest from Apple when I bought and tried installing Lion.  The upgrade failed, shot my OS and I couldn't boot.  Had the constant spinner on a grey screen..  did a format of the drive, hdd repair and everything came back clean... got back to Snow Leopard and all the updates on it again and then retried the Lion thing... same bs... dead duck.  Crashed my system one too many times.  I can't see where a few small changes, mostly app related can be classified as an OS upgrade and is not compatible with my iMac.  I have the stuff running on my Mac Pro but have yet to notice anything impressive.  I've always used F3 and really didn't require Mission Control.  Just open you app folder for launch pad... duh?  I use the hot corners anyhow.  As far as Safari is concerned... as a power user, Apple missed the boat on that for me.. full screen etc.. Wow.  I don't like the new Mail either..
As you can see/read, I'm less than impressed with this release from Apple but I own so many of their products that I will have to put up with it for now... somehow the MS logo should apply to this release Steve.

  • Why can't I have the Samsung Haven replaced without paying for a new phone since the battery needed for this model will not hold a charge more then 24 hrs?

The Haven is my husbands phone and he calls me from work every night and we talk about 15 minutes.  He calls my verizon phone so there is no charge but the problem we have is the phone will not stay charged.  We took it in and had it tested along with the house charge and the car charge.   All three device are fine so they ordered us a new battey.  We put that in and the same thing happens.  We don't text, receive text, take or send pictures.    We have texting blocked so nothing can use up his battery and yet it still dies.  Can you please tell me how we can get this phone replaced without buying a new one.  The contract isn't up for renewal until Oct. 2013.  We have been long time customers of verizon and I feel we should be able to get a product replaced if it is a defective product the company is selling.  It seems Verizon knows there is a problem since there have been so many complaint filed in the last 9 months.  If we buy something from Home Depot or Lowes and that product is not working right, they replace it and they go back to the companies that supply it.  I am willing to bet Samsung would take Verizon,s complaint more seriously then they would an average consummer.  Please tell me Verizon is finally listening to their customers.

        Hi THerman!
We definitely don't want you having a phone described as a lemon so let's work on getting everything back up to a peachy status. What you've indicated is certainly an issue. So, let's fix this.
First, when it comes to your calls not ringing or registering in your log, my recommendation is to update your phone. To do this, simply dial *228, choose option 2, wait for completion and for your phone to restart itself. This will have it resync with our network for optimal usage. Regarding the battery, personally I like to pull my battery every now and again for up to 60 seconds before reinserting (all while the phone is powered off). If you don't notice improvement, we may need to look into a replacement if life is shortlived below what was described prior.
