Two Ethernet cards at one time

Hello all
I have a problem someone may be able to help me with.
I wish to use LabVIEW to communicate down an Ethernet card to a test unit
no problem so far ) however I want to connect up to our LAN using Ethernet
and the I.T. boys say we can't have an untested unit on there network.
"OK" I say, we will use two network cards ( one to communicate to the
network and one to test the unit ) This is where my troubles begin.
LabVIEW will not let me use any other Ethernet card but the default card.
Does anybody know a work aroung?? I was thinking maybe using CIN but I will
have to write the code myself and haven't a clue where to start. Any
pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

What's the error that you get? I'd heard that this was in fact possible.

    Hello All
some one mailed me a message requiring a problem we had a while ago about
two Ethernet cards on one PC. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the
message before responding to it, so if I post the answer here maybe they
    will see it.
We got two Ethernet cards to work with LabVIEW by giving them different
address. I.E. Card 1 had address 123.456.FFF.001 and card two had
234.567.FFF.001. Card one was connected to the network and card 2 was
connected to the unit we wanted to test. We think that LabVIEW uses the
address to determine which card is being used. Anything connected to card 1
must be on the same domain in order for it to work I.E. 123.456.XXX.XXX
    where X = any hex number from 1 to F )( the same for card 2 )
    We didn't
test this theory, but our system is working and it is the best explanation I
    can come up with.

You are right except that it is NT that is figuring out which to use base on the
ip you are addressing. It has the bindings and their priority in the network
set up. We use two cards, one for the company network and another that is a
local connection to the unit under test. No problems at all with NT.

  • Two Ethernet Card Issues

    Hi
I've got two Ethernet cards installed in a G5 running Osx 10.3.9 Server. One card is the default pre-installed card, the other is a PCI card I installed. Both cards work fine. My problem is when try and run two Ip addresses, they both work for a while, and then one dies. The reason we're running two different addresses, is we're setting up an off-site backup system. I have a Mini that I plugged the backup Ethernet cable into and it worked fine for an extended period of time. When I reconnected in the backup Ethernet cable into the G5, both IP's sent and received packets, I mounted the backup drive from the off-site location, and attempted to transfer some files. About 3/4's of the way through the transfer I lost connect to the backup drive, however, my LAN was and is still up and running.
Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on this? I'm really struggling to figure out what's going on.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you setup separate subnets on the two NICs?
If you used IP addresses in the same subnet you're going to run into this kind o problem. Unless you're bonding the two interfaces together, each NIC needs to be in a different subnet in order to work correctly.

  • How can I Connecticut two Airport Express with One Time Capsula?

Only by Wifi or by LAN in a row?

What are you trying to accomplish with the AirPort Express devices?
Where will the Express devices be located in relation to the Time Capsule?
If you are planning to use the Express devices to "extend" the wireless range of your network, Ethernet LAN will always provide far better performance than trying to connect the Express devices using wireless only.
You have the option of connecting both AirPort Express devices directly back to two LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule....or....connecting one Express back to the Time Capsule and then connecting the second Express to the first Express using Ethernet.  This assumes that you have a "new" Express with both WAN and LAN ports.
If you choose wireless only, both Express devices will connect back directly to the Time Capsule, so both of them should be located where they can receive a strong signal from the Time Capsule wireless.
A "hybrid" approach can also work. Connect one Express to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable and then setup the second Express to connect to the first Express using wireless only.

  • How do I use two DAQ cards in one Labview code? Current I'm getting error " error 200558 occurred at DAQmx Create Channel.vi. One task cann't contain multiple independent devices". Can someone help me?

The two DAQ cards are NI PCI-6070E & NI PCI-6052E. The Labview I'm using is labview 7 Express and the Window system is Window XP. I'm using NI SCXI-1000 chasis and SCXI-1102 & 1102B two modules plus a feedthrough SCXI-1180. 1102 is connected through SCXI-1349 cable to DAQ card 6052E while 1102B is connected through SCXI-1349 cable to DAQ card 6070E. SCXI-1180 is connected to 6070E through SCXI-1349 adaptor on the back of 1102B.

Sarah, thank you for replying my question. It seems that I'm making progress everyday (smile). I'm able to run the test using both daq cards in my code now. But as I'm moving forward, I'm getting new questions too. How do I use one STOP button to control both tasks and how can I save data into one single file?
I attached my code here hoping you can get the specifics on my application by looking at the code. Thanks very much!
    Thanks.

  • Two Mac computer in one Time Machine ? Possible?

    Hi
Does anyone know that can I back up two computers in one Time Machine External HD? I have one Imac (PPC) and one MAcbook (intel). For both of them I'd like to make one Time machine HD. Does it work like that or do I need to back up two seperate TM HD for each of my computers?
    Many thanks...

    tur,
There are multiple options for backing up 2 machines to one external drive. Remember that Time Machine is smart enough to recognize different machines and stores the backups in different folders.
1: Connect your external drive to your main machine and then use Personal File Sharing to share that drive on your network. Keep in mind sharing the drive over the network will degrade network speed while Time Machine is working (Not such a big deal if you use a wired network).
2: (The option I use) Run Time Machine on the first computer, eject it the drive, and then plug it onto the second machine and run time machine on that computer.
I use option 2 because I have a machine I use as a media center and do not need regular backups of. I only back it up when I add files.
A third option I have not had any experience with is using Apple's new Time Capsule.
I hope this answers your question.

    Hi shezi007,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're not able to send a group text message on your iPhone.
You can find many good troubleshooting tips that can help the situation at this link:
If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
I recommend starting with these tips:
Go to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage, Send as SMS, or MMS Messaging is turned on (whichever method you're trying to use).
If you can't send messages to a certain recipient, delete any conversations you have with them and try sending a new message. When you delete a conversation, you won’t be able to recover it. Make sure that you take a screenshot or forward any messages that you want to keep.
If you can't send or receive SMS or MMS messages, contact your carrier to check your text messaging plan.
    Sincerely,
    Jeremy

  • Two credit cards aon one account

I want to pay with two different credit cards from one account. one by business and one private. How to do this?

    Yes you can.
Make the first payment  where it indiactes how much you wish to pay, enter in the amount.
You might have to wait for the first pament to be processed and applied (about and hour) before you enter the second payment.
I use my debit card to pay my half of the phone bill, and then my GF's card to pay the second half of my family plan.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I use two SIM cards with one iPhone5s? ie, switch phone numbers and plan, same carrier?

I live where there is no Cell service in remote BC Canada.  Fortunately, we have highspeed Internet!  Thus, I have been using an iPod Touch 4th gen & Skype to make all my calls for a 2 or 3 years.  I travel a couple of times a month into cell coverage.  I plan to use my iPhone 5s on a iPad Data Package when in cell coverage.  I called and asked bell if I could do so if I bought an unlocked iPhone.  I was told yes, but recieving calls would be very expensive.  I have email notification and a phone number where voice mails are emailed to me, so am able to do without recieving calls in most cases.  However, certain situations lead to frustrating telephone tag.
Just today, after receiving my unlocked iPhone 5s I realised that Bell also has a pay as you use plan that is very reasonably priced for cell calls only.  If I was able to switch SIM cards I could get both plans.  Thus if recieving a call or placing one was important I could just switch my SIM card.  Could that be done reasonably and practically?
I would appreciate an answer to this question!
    Scott

Let me see if i got this straight. You have two iDevices. One is an iPad, which uses 3G Data. The other one is an iPhone 5s. You plan on purchasing two plans, One thats has only 3G Data, and the other one that has only phone calls, and messages. The answer to your question is Yes. At least i done that with t-mobile USA. If your iPad is compatible with nano-sim cards, yes you can. If not, you will have to buy an iPad with nano-sim such as the iPad mini 3G. This is totaly possible.

  • Can I back up two different computers in one Time Capsule?

I have two 15" MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, a first generation and a more recent one linked to a 500G Time Capsule.
    First question:
Can I back up the two computers in the TC in separate "partitions", as in separate units like storage #1 and storage #2, so that the data from each computer is only stored in that assigned location?
    Second question
In case that should be doable, will it be also possible for each computer to access the data stored in either storage #1 or storage #2?

    Second question
In case that should be doable, will it be also possible for each computer to access the data stored in either storage #1 or storage #2?
The best way to see the backups for a different Mac is via the Browse Other Time Machine Disks option, per #17 in  Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

I have two user profiles on my iMac. I'm just wondering if Time Machine backs up both profiles when I'm logged into one or do I have back up each profile individually?
    Thanks.

It will backup virtually the whole contents of your internal hard disk, so no worries. That's whether you are logged into a specific user account or not.

  • Bonding two ethernet cards to two switches

We have a corporate secure network setup relying on VLANs. And a requirement to connect all VLANs over a bond (team of network cards) that are connected to two separate switches for fail-over security. This, (two switches) makes the usage of Link Aggregation (IEEE 802.3ad) impossible. So, I set the mode of the bond to static using ifconfig (bondmode static) and get a link and a DHCP adress from the native lan.
We configure our servers using a management lan and have this lan set as default gateway (at the top in Network/System Prefs). I create the bond using networksetup -createBond xxx en1 en2. Then set this bond to static and now have a DHCP adress.
Then I add two VLANs, on top of the bond. One of these VLANs is to become the Default Gateway as our clients will get OD info and other goodies form this server. Al is well, the VLANs recive a DHCP address and I configure these with the static IP addresses.
Now the problem arises. As i change the order of the networks, using networksetup -ordernetworkservices and put the correct VLAN as default Gateway the network connection fails. If I reset to dhcp the VLAN does not receive a DHCP address.
If I create the bond using just one network card everything works as expected. If I add a network card to the bond and rerun it fails.
    Any ideas?
IEEE 802.3ad is of on the switches, maybee turn it on just to see if it changes anything?
Switch is a cisco with IEEE 802.3ad support but turned of.

I've found bonding to be reliable when set via the
GUI, but I've yet to find a stable command line
    method.
Note that any ifconfig commands would be transient,
and lost at the next reboot. In any case your syntax
    is incorrect. It should be:
    ifconfig bond0 bonddev
    en1
in other words, add device en1 to the existing bonded
    interface bond0. You're passing in a physical
interface as the first parameter instead of the
    virtual bonded interface.
The networksetup command should work, and should be
persistent. It's not clear why it isn't working.
If you have ARD or a monitor on this box I'd just go
ahead and do it via the GUI. Maybe not the answer you
wanted, but it works for me.
If I don't have an existing bond0, do I simply use same line above but with en0 to create it.
For example: ifconfig bond0 bonddev en0
And is there anything else that would require tweaking after the bond is setup.
