Unable to connect internal modem/authentication fails

I have iMAC OS X 10.3.9. I can't connect my internal modem. It worked perfectly with my new ISP until Saturday, 10-27-07. Now I get authentication failure notice. My password is typed in and has not changed. It will not accept my password. I have Vip Power/Dialup Ine. They have checked my account and find no fault. When troubleshooting internet PPP with iMAC specialist I was told to dial my ISP #, then hang up when it answered. This process never worked.

Welcome To  Discussions threecherries!
No guarantees, but this configuration works for me on my iMac G3. You may need to make some adjustments for your particular Mac, Modem, and ISP.
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with your service, so I am not able to advise you on how to reset your access numbers.
Hopefully you know how to do that.
Read the entire document. Pay attention to *Notes.
And if you have any questions, please ask them before preceeding.
Delete only the files listed, no more.
Sign off from your ISP, and quit the browser.
See *Note 1
Navigate to:
HD > USERS > YOUR HOME > LIBRARY > PREFERENCES
If present, move to Trash:
com.apple.internetpref.plist (a file)
com.apple.internetconnect.plist (a file)
com.apple.internetconfig.plist (a file)
Don't empty the Trash just yet.
*Note 1Before you change the settings below, you might want to make notes, or take screen shots of your present configurations. Actually, this should be done before you trash or move any of the files I've listed above.
Then, open System Preferences > Network
In each of these panels, after you have made your selections or changes, be sure to click on the "Apply Now" button in the lower right corner, if it's available.
Location: Select "Automatic"
Show: Select "Internal Modem", or however you connect.
On the PPP screen, click "PPP Options". CHECK ONLY THESE options:
"Send PPP echo packets"
"Use TCP header compression"
Click OK
On the TCP/IP screen, Configure using IPv4: Select "Using PPP"
On the Modem screen, Select your modem from the list. I'm using an iMac (Summer 2001), and I have "Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.90)" selected. Select your modem.
Check "Enable error correction and compression in modem"
"Wait for dial tone before dialing"
"Dialing": Tone
"Sound": On
"Show modem status in menubar" (This isn't really necessary, but it's handy.)
Also select your Country.
Then, still in "Network" preferences,
Location: "Automatic"
Show: "Network Port Configurations"
Make sure "Internal Modem", or however you connect, is checked and at the top of the list.
Click "Apply Now" at the bottom of the screen.
Quit System Preferences.
If everything is hunky dory, you can empty the Trash.

  • DPM 2012 R2 unable to connect to Database after failed Update Rollup 4 Installation

We have a DPM 2012 R2 Server with SQL Server 2012 installed locally.
We tried to install Rollup 4 for DPM 2012 R2 (KB3009516) using Windows Update
and it failed with error code 0x80070643. Now when we open the DPM Console
it is totally empty (no Protection Groups, Servers, Disks, just like a fresh install).
In the eventlog we get a lot of Errors and warnings:
    Event 941 (MSDPM)
Unable to connect to the DPM database.  Make sure that SQL Server is running and that it is configured correctly.
Cannot open database "DPMDB" requested by the login. The login failed.
    Event 4209 (MSDPM)
The description for Event ID 4209 from source MSDPM cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
DPM Writer encountered an internal error.  Please restart the DPM Writer service, and then try the backup operation again. For additional troubleshooting information, review the application event log and the DPM Troubleshooting Guide.
Event 107 (Report Server Windows Service (MSSQLSERVER)
Report Server Windows Service (MSSQLSERVER) cannot connect to the report server database.
    Event 274 (SQLISService110)
    Microsoft SSIS Service:
Registry setting specifying configuration file does not exist.
Attempting to load default config file.
Then there are some Errors/warnings from SQLSERVERAGENT about failed scheduled Jobs.
I think the failed Installation changed some database Settings, so that now the DPM Console
    cant access the database anymore.
I would be happy if someone can help me getting this Server working again!

Our biggest problem is, that the DPM is not working any more. So there is no chance to backup the SQL Server via DPM.
I think the main problem is that DPM have no access to the database. Every time I start the DPM Application, I get an error "verify that the DPM service is running on this computer". In the eventlog are many errors that the msdpm service was unable
to connect to DPM Database. Another "information" is that the user 'nt authority\system' failed to open the database of dpm.
We've tried to reinstall the DPM but its still the same problem. I suppose that is a corrupt database.
Tomorrow I try to restore the database and hope it will be the solution of our problem.

  • From Azure unable to connect internal LAN network with windows RRAS site to site VPN

    Hi All,
    Below is my scenario.
    Our side.
We have installed RRAS on Windows 2012 R2 on VMware and created a site to site VPN with azure.
on RRAS server we have two interfaces
    eth0- 10.1.1.1
    eth1- 10.1.1.2
We have natted(static nat) internal ip (eth0) 10.1.1.1 with public ip 1.1.1.1 (eg.).
    On Azure,
We created a gateway, and two VMs.
    VM1 = 11.11.11.1
    VM2 = 11.11.11.2
Both VMs can ping each other.
VPN gateway on Azure and demand dial on RRAS server shows connected and, in and out data shows as well.
We can ping, tracert and rdp the RRAS server using both the interfaces IP [eth0- 10.1.1.1   ,    eth1- 10.1.1.2]
But we are unable to ping, tracert or rdp our other internal Lan machines on 10.1.x.x
So we can reach Azure VM from our RRAS and
we can reach RRAS server from Azure VM.
But we cannot reach our other internal Lan machines from Azure VM and from other internal Lan machine to Azure VM.
    Please help?

I will give you some pointers to check.
The reason for this could be one of the two
    - local site in azure virtual network is not configured correctly
    - route for the azure subnet is not setup correctly on rras server
Can you please validate the above?
Open the Routing and Remote access UI and verify that there is a static route for azure subnet and the interface is the public ip of the azure gateway.
Also verify that you have a local site created with the on-premises subnet and added in the azure virtual network.
What is the gateway specified in the on-premises VM. Provide it as the IP of eth1, the IP that is not natted
Is NAT allowing all traffic in or is it restricted to certain points.

  • Unable to connect after modem and router restart

    Hi Everybody
Some times i don't get any internet connection from my cable modem (Motorola 5100 surfboard). In such cases, Time Warner cable recommends restarting the modem. I am connected to the internet in the following sequence:
Cable Modem --> Router --> PC
    The way it should work:
    Switch off the router
    Switch off the cable modem
Restart the cable modem (all the lights should be on)
    Restart the router
    Connected to the Internet!
However, things don't work this way. If I connect the PC to the cable modem directly after the modem restart, I am able to get online
If I try to connect with the router in the middle, I get no connection. Usually, I have to follow this sequence (instead of the one above):
    Switch off the cable modem
Re-set the Linksys router (loose all my settings)
    Switch off the router
Restart the cable modem (all the lights should be on)
    Restart the router
    Connected to the Internet!
Re-configure the router manually to get back my previous settings
Need your help to figure out why a simple re-start of the modem and router (in that sequence) doesn't work and I have to re-set the router to get on-line
One more thing - I backed up my router configuration (Administration --> Config Management --> Backup) and after getting online, restored it. Thought It would work, but no luck. Couldn't connect via the router. Had to follow the above sequence (again) to get online and then manually had to re-configure all router settings
    Rourter - WRT54G. Version 2
    Firmware version - v4.21.1
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Step should be :
    1) Shutdown the computer.
    2) Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
    3) Unplug the router’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
    4) Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
    5) Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
    6) Power on the computer on and test the Internet connection.

  • Internal Modem Not Getting Dial Tone - Failed or Settings? Solution?

I have just refurbished my old G4 FP iMac for my grown son to use. He has only dial-up service. There is a dial tone on the phone line (verified via telephone handset). After an attempt to connect, I get a "no dial tone" message. I hear no audio of the dial tone or connection sequence, even with volume fully open. Believing the internal modem had failed, I purchased an in-line Apple external USB modem. I obviously did not read the fine print carefully enough, because in troubleshooting I ran across a note saying that I need 10.4 or later to use the external modem. I have 10.3.9 installed, and 10.4 costs about $150 these days. That's a lot of $$ to solve what might be a simple modem or system settings problem. Or maybe I don't really need 10.4?
Also wondering (if it is a failed internal modem) whether I can purchase and replace the inernal modem itself.
    Any suggestions?

    hello again,
i just found this at the support center of SAP
    Note: 920328
XLR - Startup fails, Failed to Initialize Language
    Symptom
When starting the XLR add-on from Add-On Manager in SAP Business One, I get an error message from XL Reporter saying: "Unable to connect to DI. Failed to Initialize Language".
    Other terms
    SBO, Add-On, XL Reporter, XLR
    Reason and Prerequisites
XL Reporter applies the language you are using in SBO, and if it cannot find the language files, it will fail. This may be due to the fact that the language files have not been copied to the temp area on the client.
    Solution
Go to Start - Run in Windows and enter %Temp%. Choose OK.
Go to the folder SM_OBS_DLL\<B1 version number>. Check that the language files *.LRF is not located under the folder GUI.
Rename the folder with Business One's version number and add ".old". Then try to start XL Reporter from Business One again. This will force a new download of the language files. Delete the ".old" folder when XL Reporter has started.
i just done this steps suggested in this note but still i got the error prompt me every time i try to start my XLR.
pls Note: take a look on the Image that i attached the Version of my XLR is 6.70.02.00 and the version in this path is SM_OBS_DLL\<B1 version number>. is 670190.. maybe this is the reason because my XLR version is not the same.
    Any suggestions?

  • Unable to Connect to: sysadmin@ my_Database

    Hello all,
I am new to Oracle and for the past several days I have been trying to login to an Oracle apps database (11.5.10) through Discover desktop. I get the following error when trying to login as an application user
    Unable to Connect to: sysadmin@<my_Database>
Failed to connect to database - Unable to connect to Oracle Applications database: invalid username/password.
I successfully installed Discoverer Administrator and Desktop clients (9.0.4). I also was able to login to Discoverer Administrator and successfully created an EUL with the "grant access to public" and "New EUL is for use by Oracle Applications users ONLY" options selected. I added a simple business area and granted the appropriate Security and Privileges to SYSADMIN.
I have looked all over and havent found anything that has helped.
    Thank in advance
    Maro

    Hi Russ
Actually, in Discoverer 10.1.2 this setting is only required for Desktop and only if Apps is running in secure mode, HTTPS, which is quite common. For the web versions, Plus and Viewer, this setting is picked up from the OPMN.XML file which is located here:
    On UNIX: <ORACLE_HOME>/opmn/conf/opmn.xml
    On Windows: <ORACLE_HOME>\opmn\conf\opmn.xml
By default, in OPMN.XML there should be a setting called FND_SECURE which should point to the folder referred to by Magesh:
    "C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\discoverer\secure"
In fact the line should look like this:
    <variable id="FND_SECURE" value="C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1\discoverer\secure"/>
where the $ORACLE_HOME for where the Discoverer server is installed being embedded like this: C:\oracle\BIToolsHome_1
However, we still have to make sure that the secure files, those ending in DBC, are in fact located here. As Mugesh points out these can be found on the E-Business Suite server here:
    $FND_TOP/secure
Discoverer will first attempt to find a secure DBC file with the filename <database name>.dbc. If not found, Discoverer will then attempt to use a file with the filename <host name>_<SID>.dbc.
By the way, if there is nothing defined for FND_SECURE, Discoverer will attempt to use the value specified by FND_TOP, which is the setting used by previous versions of Discoverer. In those installs, the DBS files would be located in the $ORACLE_HOME\Discoverer folder itself, not in a separate folder called secure.
By the way, the service name in tnsnames.ora and dbc file name should be same <service name>.dbc

  • Internal modem failing to connect via dial-up

I'm new to posting questions. Every time I try to connect using dial-up I get the message failed to detect dial tone. I tried to connect in different buildings and using new phone line (wire?) with no success. Tonight I created a new location in network preferences, tried and failed. Created a new user as a test, tried and failed. I cannot try in another building for a day or so. Anybody able to help? Thanks.

    Hi Again starlite!
    I hope you're feeling better.
Have you ever been able to connect with the PowerBook?
I don't know about your PowerBook, but on my iMac, the Modem port & the Ethernet port look very similar. Make sure you haven't inadvertently plugged into the Ethernet port.
Below is how I set my Network Preferences, using AOL. I don't know if the same configuration will work for you, but it may help to compare how yours are set. What ISP are you using? I'm guessing that you're on campus.
If you have any questions, please ask them before preceeding.
First, be sure you know what version of Modem you are using.
    Disconnect from the Internet.
    Navigate to:
HD > USERS > YOUR HOME > LIBRARY > PREFERENCES
    If present, move to Trash:
    com.apple.internetpref.plist (a file)
    com.apple.internetconnect.plist (a file)
    com.apple.internetconfig.plist (a file)
Don't empty the Trash just yet.
Before you change the settings below, you might want to make notes, or take screen shots of your present configurations.
Then, open System Preferences > Network
    Location: Select "Automatic"
    Show: Select "Internal Modem"
On the PPP screen, click PPP Options. UNCHECK ALL options
On the TCP/IP screen, Configure using IPv4: Select "Using PPP"
On the Modem screen, Select your modem from the list. I'm using an iMac (Summer 2001), and I have "Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.90)" selected.
Check "Enable error correction and compression in modem"
"Wait for dial tone before dialing"
    "Dialing": Tone
    "Sound": On
"Show modem status in menubar" (This isn't necessary, I just like to keep track of it)
    Also select your Country.
    Then, still in "Network" preferences,
    Location: "Automatic"
    Show: "Network Port Configurations"
Make sure "Internal Modem" is checked and at the top of the window.
Click "Apply Now" at the bottom of the screen.
    Quit System Preferences.
Sometimes changing the access number that you use will also help. Do you know how to do that?
    Good Luck!

  • Help to resolve Unable to connect to XL reporter user authentication

I upgraded business one 2007 from PL 11 to PL42 on SQL Server 2000. I have 7 companies and only one of them has a problem loading XL reporter. I first get a sql script executor - execution result screen with what looks like errors in a script that has lines taht refer to OADM. then it gives a message when I X out of it'
'Unable to connect to XL reporter
    Error! User authentication failed!
    Cause: ExitCode -1'
then I get the sql script executor again, X out, and then it asks to start with out the add-on.
What is weird is that the SQL script message will come up after a while once I turn on the laptop
and am doing other things, but have not gone into Business One yet.
Any ideas as I am stumped.

support helped me resolve. the table xrdbv had a incorrect value in the PartnerDBV field. We updated the field and XL reporter then worked.

my issue was that the partnerdbv was a different version than the B-one software. I have values in dobjver (1.8), parver(22.02), partner (SBOOEM) , and partnerdbv (see below) . the others are NULL.
the values are version specific to the version of Business One and my partnerdbv was 800176 when my buiness one version was 800177. Once we changed parnerdbv to 800177, it worked. I didn't change it-support did with a webex session. good luck.

  • Internet connect "authentication failed"

I'm sure there is an easy answer, and I am overlooking it. I have verified my passwords and connection settings, per the help menu suggestions, still I cant log onto the internet in my OSX, I keep getting the "authentication failed" mssg. I can only log in when I am in classic. What am I missing???? Help Please. This is just a new development, in the last two days. I have always been able to log on before. It is making me crazy!!!
    imac   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

An authentication error is issued from your ISP. It means either the username or password is incorrect. Usernames and passwords are case sensitive. You should check with your ISP to determine if they have made changes to their login protocol or check to be sure you are connecting to the right site (using a bad telephone number or not having a good connection.) Also, be sure you have selected the right modem script for your computer's modem.
Are you using an Intel Mac? I ask because you have posted in an Intel Mac forum but your computer information says you are using a PPC iMac with Jaguar. You should be sure to post in the correct forum for your problem. I'm posing this because you said you are using Classic, but Classic is not available on Intel Macs.

  • Slow dial up Internet connection with Internal modem

I just bought a Mac G4 with dual 1.25 gig processors and internal modem for my dial up connection to the Internet. My modem connect speed is 28.8K and max through put on a session is 19K.
I can use any of 3 Windows/PC's and plug them into the same phone jack and get a solid 50.6K connection with a max through put of 49K. Get basically the same connect speeds with a Windows Laptop
Any thoughts of what may be the problem with the Mac Internal modem and such a slow connect speed.
Would buying an external modem with its own processor help me in better connect speeds. Simply at 28.8K the Mac is next to useless on the web.
My home is all wired with Cat 5e, all jacks are a direct run to the punch down block.
My goal is to switch my business to all Mac's, but I need to get the connect problem resolved first.
    Thank You
    wm300

My girlfriend lives in a hill town in a fairly wooded mountain road. She cannot get broadband or DSL either, and the town will, probably never get it. She has satellite, and when it's working well it's great, but in bad weather or cloudy days, the reception is spotty and the satellite provider charges mucho buck for their satellite high speed internet acesss.
So, she has no choice but to rely on the town's phone lines and basically is stuck with dial-up. Unfortunately, the town's phone lines are very old and are analog lines with no digital support. The fastest she can ever achieve is 28k to 30K speeds. Panifully slow dial-up and even small downloads are an experience in patience and time.
Maybe call the phone company to check what kind of phone lines your town or surrounding towns are using.
And if they know what data transfer speeds the lines support
    Also, a thought.
If this Mac was not purchased new, but as a refurbished or used Mac, it could've had a "new" slower modem installed because the original failed and a identical spec'd modem was not installed.
I have a single 1.25 Ghz MDD and has a V.92 56K internal modem and I just found out my town's phone lines can support a 125k data transfer or "high speed dial-up". Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, my 56K will only get me to transfer speeds of between 44k and 48. Not sure if this is fault of my modem, accessing my ISP as the dial-up number dials into a tower at least 20 miles away and my ISP's server is over 40 miles away.
My brother came to visit and his PC laptop could dial-in to his ISP and was able to get transfer speeds of 100k to 120k.
Again, not sure if this was because of a faster modem or not.
You would think that if the phone line in my area can support 128k speeds that my modem should be tapping in and operating at 50k spedds or close to the modem's max of 56k.
This is a stumper becuase I am considering looking for a high speed dial-up provider to replace my current ISP, but if my modem won't clock to any faster than 44k or 48k , I think this would be a waste of my efforts and money.
If anyone can help me shed some light on my situation, this will help me out, as well.

  • Failed internal modem - cannon send faxs

The Apple eMac internal modem is a hardware device, which appears to have failed in my computer. The OSX hardware test facility found the modem but did not report whether it worked or not. I planned to fit an Apple external modem (sold in the Apple shop for $50) but the reviews posted there were mostly very negative, only one reported sending and receiving faxs successfully, although most problems were with internet connection.
Can anyone recommend a reliable external dial up modem? Is it straightforward to get it to respond to the fax button in the Appleworks Print Page. Does the eMac find the modem given that it will be connected to a USB port? Should I just settle for posting letters?
    regards

If you want to use the modem to send and receive faxes, then you don't want to have the Network trying to control it, you should disable the modem port in the Network prefs and use only the Ethernet port. You can use the Network prefs to troubleshoot to ensure that the modem is in working condition, but you can't have the network dial-up taking control of the modem at the same time as you want to be waiting for a fax or sending a fax. This can cause the modem to get hung, and you will get the waiting behavior that you described.
You should just be able to receive faxes by checking the "Receive faxes on this computer" button in the Print & Fax Prefs. If you had an external modem you could see some activity lights come on as soon as you check the box as it goes into standby to answer a call mode, with an internal the only way to know it's working is to send yourself a fax.
To send a fax, I think you might need to configure a Fax printer, if you don't seem to have one already. Click the "Setup Fax Modem..." button at the bottom of that Print & Fax Prefs. IF you launch /Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility can you select from the View Menu: Show Fax List and does anything show up in the list? You should have a Fax List and fax printer in that list similar to your Printer List and whatever printer you have installed.
To check if the modem is even working you may have to use some modem terminal utility like ZTerm that will let you type simple commands and check the modem response. For example AT should result in an OK. With the internal you can't check the activity lights to see if you are receiving data or sending data, so I'm not sure how else you can verify the internal modem is actually functioning. It might be worthwhile checking that first, or if you know you can use it for dial-up, I still use my modem as a backup for when DSL goes out (rarely).
