Unable to connect to internet using Wireless WPA after installing XP SP3

Hi guys,
Just installled XP SP3 on my X40 and now I cannot connect to a WPA wireless network.  I have updated the drivers etc but still no luck.
Has anyone else got this problem and been able to fix it.
I'm sure that if I uninstalled SP3 then it would work but I'd rather get a fix.

I, too, am unable to get a good "connected" session with WPA.
I have tried Windows Wireless:  stays in the mode: "Authenticating."
I have tried Intel Proset Wireless: stays in the mode: "Connecting."
I have tried Access Connections: stops after saying "Waiting for association."
These different programs allow me to set up WPA profiles, and they see wireless networks and can communicate with them.
I am on a Thinkpad T-42 (2373-Y3U).  Intel adapter 2200bg.  Windows XP Pro, SP3.
I have tried WEP, and it works fine.  Other computers connect to (multiple, different) routers with WPA that I have tried, to no avail.
I loaded latest Intel driver (file name: 7vwc15ww.exe, dated July 29, 2008).  But does not work...
I have tried going back to old drivers, but does not work. I have tried the steps: unload driver, load HotKey, Load PowerManagement, Load Access Connections, as described elsewhere, but does not work.
Why is this so hard.  Should be a no - brainer, it seems to me.  I've spent hours...
 Thanks, Todd

  • Unable to connect to internet using time capsule

Over the last couple of days I have run into a peculiar problem. I am able to connect to the internet when I connect the ethernet cable directly to my computer. Now when I use time capsule to connect wirelessly, the connection either does not get established or if it gets established fails after a few mins and I am unable to browse the internet. I have noticed this problem especially after Mac OSX 10.6.3 update. I did not have this issue earlier. I am not sure if this is the root cause but would surely like some help.

This behavior may indicate that you are picking up wireless interference from cordless phones, another wireless network, security system or other electrical device. It's hard to pinpoint the exact cause.
Suggest that you start by downloading iStumbler and using the application to display your signal strength and noise on your network. What values do you see for each of these?
Also look at any other networks to see if they might be using the same channel or an adjacent channel as your wireless network. If so, change the channel on your wireless network so that it is as far away as possible from other networks.
If you have cordless phones, turn them all off for at least an hour when you can to see if your network performance improves.
Interference robustness often does more harm than good. Try turning it off. However, if you find that your network performs better with it on, that is an almost sure sign that wireless interference is occurring on your network.
You won't be able to do anything about cordless phones at your neighbors (my neighbor...across the street...can knock me off my wireless network if he is in his front yard with his phone and it rings). Users far underestimate the effect that cordless phones have on their wireless networks.
Post back with your findings when you have tried a few things.

    Hi Flaviazzu,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums!
Since you can use the packet data on your phone but not on your computer may mean that your operator does not allow you to use your data access via tethering. We would recommend that you review the terms and conditions of your service and see if it mentions anything about tethering. If tethering is allowed in your contract, please follow the instructions below to set up your internet connection.
To create an internet connection for the first time, do the following:
You can find the latest available Nokia Suite from your local support site
In the Nokia Suite Home view, click Tools -> Options -> Connect to Internet
Depending on the device model you are using, the internet connection is created as follows:
The connection is created automatically or you need to select the operator to be used when creating an internet connection. From the list that shows the operators in your country, select your home operator (in other words the operator to whose network you have subscribed to). Then click OK.
Let us know if this helps,
    Puigchild
If you find this post helpful, a click upon the white star at bottom would always be appreciated.

  • Unable to connect to Internet using dial-up. Mess...

Discovered the problem when trying to use my work laptop to connect remotely to the work network using the Internet.
Later tried using the home computer and to connect to the Internet using our ISP and got the message "No dial tone. Check the modem is plugged into the phone line"
Have checked that the modem lead is plugged in correctly. Have unplugged and re-plugged in. Also have tried using different modem leads from phone socket to computers. This does not solve the problem.
Therefore tried different computers, modem lines and different ways of connecting to the Internet therefore do not believe problem is caused by out equipment or Internet settings.
    Have no telephone extension socket.
Have another phone line coming in to the house but this is not used/is not active.
BT 1571 is not set up on our phone line.
BT have done a normal line check and found no fault. with the phone line. Indeed the phone works fine for voice communications.
Have looked at line socket and tried test socket - again telephone works but dial-up doesn't.
In the past have had problems where the dial-up connection kept dropping.

If the 'phone line works, but you're getting a "no dialing tone" message trying to connect with a modem, then it must be either your equipment or the way it's set up.
Can you hear a dialling tonw when the modem goes "off hook" ?  If you can, try setting the modem to blind dial - ie go ahead and dial, regardless of whether or not it thinks it's getting a dialling tone. I can't be more specific than that - it's years since I messed around with AT commands, although I've probably go an old manual or two hiding somewhere.
If there really is no dialling tone, as far as the modem is concerned, I'd suspect the lead. Some modems use non-standard terminations - although the connectors fit, the wires need to be terminated on non-standard pins at the modem end.

  • Cannot connect to internet using wireless airport on my iMAC

I am running Leopard on my iMac and less than a week ago I was able to connect to the internet by wireless airport express. Now it says that my airport is working and connected but when I open Safari, I only get a partial url load and then it freezes and eventually after about 3-5 minutes it gives me a "You are not connected to the internet". I recently installed updates and I believe that after that is when it stopped working. After hours of troubleshooting research on the internet, I've tried creating a new network, editing the location from Automatic to a new one, simply shutting down and unplugging for a couple of minutes and plugging back in and rebooting for example and nothing has worked. Does anybody have any thoughts that could help me get back up and running again?
    Thanks!

Even though your profile does NOT show you updated to 10.5.2 I suspect you did by the way you are talking. The problem with 10.5.2 is in an extension file ( which is really a folder ) it is the root to the wi-fi problems. I will be posting a fix 1-2 days. In the mean time you should download a program called Pacifist Vers. 2.5.2. The trial version will work but I suggest you pay the $20 shareware because he earn it and if my feelings are correct about Apple you will need it again.

    Hi,
Please try the following steps to narrow down the issue:
    1. Uninstall and reinstall .NET package in Exchange server.
    2. Under location C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\CONFIG, took a copy of Machine.Config.default, renam it to Machine.config and copy it under this path again.
    3. Do IIS reset by running iisreset from a Command Prompt window.
    4. Reboot the server and verify whether the Exchange services are started.

  • Connected to network but can't connect to internet using wireless

Hi, I just installed a Linksys WRT 45G and can connect my pc and my laptop to it and use the internet fine when I use ethernet cable, but if I try to use my laptop wirelessly I can't connect to the internet.  It says that I am connected to my network and that strength signal is excellent but no internet connection.  I have that bluetooth button on the front of the laptop turned on.  The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite with Centrino.  I was told that I don't need to buy a wireless card as the Centrino already does this.  Thanks in advance for your help.

I think you can try to update the firmware of the router, to check if that stops connection dropping. To update the firmware of router try this: 1. Go to www.linksys.com/download and select correct model number and version number. Download the firmware and save it on your computer. 2. Check the file it sould be firmware image file like .bin etc. If it is a compressed zip file extract it to get firmware image file. 3. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. 4. Go to administartion tab there 5. Go to fimware update sub-tab there 6. Browse for the firmware image file and click update 7. when update completes turn off modem & router. 8. After 2 minutes turn on modem and after 2 more minutes turn on router. To get network key, connect your computer to one of the four ports on router using ethernet cable. 1. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Use your password if you have changed it earlier 2. Go to wireless tab. 3. Go to wireless security sub-tab 4. If security mode is wpa or wpa2 note down passphrase/shared key, if security mode is WEP note down wep key number 1. This will be your network key Well you need to input all the wireless settings of your wireless network on Wii. To get these settings: 1. Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. 2. Goto wireless tab. Here you will get the wireless network name/SSID. Here make sure wireless SSID broadcast is enabled. 3. Now goto wireless security sub-tab and here you will get the security mode and the security key. If security type is WPA note passphrase/shared key, and if its WEP note down wep encryption level and key 1 from listed 4 keys

  • Unable to connect to internet using DHCP with WRT54G behind ISA 2004

    Hello,
For starters, the Linksys WRT54G is located behind the ISA 2004 Sever firewall. The gateway for the LAN and internet segment is set at 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1 for the WLAN segment on the ISA box. All the proper network rules and access rules have been created. If I set the adapter card on the lap top with a static IP, e.g. ip address as 192.168.2.3, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 default gateway: 192.168.2.1 and primary DNS: 192.168.1.1 the lap top can connect to the internet through the WLAN segment. At this point the WRT54G is set for internet connection type as automatic configuration DHCP, local IP address as 192.168.2.2 subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and DHCP server disabled
When using DHCP on the WRT54G by enabling it and setting the Starting IP address to 192.168.2.3, I cannot connect to the internet. When using the CMD prompt and doing a ipconfig /all this is the result
    I get       DHCP enabled: yes
                   Autoconfiguration Enabled: yes
                 IP Address: 192.168.2.3
                   Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
                   Default Gateway: 192.168.2.2
                   DHCP Server: 192.168.2.2
                   DNS Server: 192.168.2.2
Is it possible to configure the WRT54G so that the default gateway can be set? Each time I change the Local IP address of the WRT54G e.g. 192.168.2.10, the default gateway gets the same IP address.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Karl

In the 54g, setup an extra route to the other default gateway.
    ie; route 192.168.2.2 mask 255.255.255.2 gate 192.168.2.1

  • Completely Unable to Connect to Internet using 3g!!

I love this phone. It's great. But I'm getting pretty miffed that when my 3g is turned on, I CANNOT connect to the internet. I live in 75248, in the middle of North Dallas where I know they have good 3g coverage. I can't connect to Safari, Weather, Stocks or ANYTHING using 3g. Is anyone else having this problem?
It makes me mad that I'm paying $30 a month for a service that is basically garbage at this point in time. It's a great phone, wi-fi surfer, app machine, but it ***** at 3g.

This might be a dumb question, but do I need to turn on Data Roaming to be able to use 3g data? Will I be able to access the internet through 3g if Data Roaming is off?

  • I Unable to connect to internet using lan connection on airport -TC.

Just bought and installed a 2Tb Airport TC. Got the Wi-FI and all devices connected and working fine, the only problem is that when I
connect a pc to TC Lan port- i get no internet connection, when I connect a PC directly in ISP modem it works fiine, any ideas? thank you

As LaPastenague asked.....the TC should be in bridge mode...is it?
We did not get an answer from you on this.
The TC needs to be configured in Bridge Mode since you have another router "upstream" on the network.
Check to make sure that this is the case as follows:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit
Click the Network tab at the top of the window
Insure that Router Mode is set to Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Udate to save the settings
Allow the Time Capsule to restart, then power off both your modem/router and the Time Capsule. Wait a minute, start the modem/router first, and let it run a few minutes. Then, start the Time Capsule.

  • Unable to Connect to Internet for 10+ Minutes after iMac Wakes Up

This has been driving me crazy and any help would be appreciated. Apple has referred me to my ISP and my ISP has referred me to Apple. Every time my IMac (Intel Core 2 Duo) is awakened from Sleep, it takes around 10 minutes for it to connect to the internet. I'm using an ethernet cable to connect the Imac directly to my modum. If I use the same cable with my PC, it connects instantly. Once I'm on the internet (with the iMac) I have no problems. I never get booted off. It's only when the iMac has been asleep and needs to reconnect. I've seen similar problems on the boards but the solutions don't seem to take care of my issue. In System Preferences, my Location shows "Automatic" and Configure IPv4 shows "Using DHCP." I've restarted countless times and have reinstalled the operating software to no avail. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Do you have the Airport card still turned on?? If it is, then turn it off and this may speed things up a lot if your computer is trying to check a local wifi network.
When this happens, does it sort it if you remove the ethernet cable, and then put it back in? It may be that your router thinks the machine is still active, and your machine is trying to connect afresh. This has the router thinking you are asking to be connected twice, and the Mac thinking it isn't connected at all.
Let us know if any of this makes sense.
    Karn.

  • Problems connecting to Internet using Airport - can anyone help ?

I'm using a MacBook running OSX 10.4.11, trying to connect to internet using Airport. I connected OK first time, but after powering off the Mac, each time I now try to connect again, the Mac can't find the network. Network Diagnostics can't fix it either. I use a Linksys wireless router, connected to an ADSL modem. I use PPPoE. I live in Borneo, and the line connection is not great, occasionally the phone line drops out and then modem reconnects itself, I wonder whether this is causing some sort of problem with IP settings. The only way I can connect wirelessly is to start the Mac, reboot the modem, then the router, and plough through Network Diagnostics. A real pain. Help much appreciated.

I have a Linksys Wireless-G (model WRT54GS). This is working ok because I have two other wireless devices (internet radio and iPod touch) which connect fine. Firmware is up to date. I've done a bit more troubleshooting, and the the problem is connected with the phone line, which drops out all too regularly. Each time the phone line drops out, the Mac is unable to connect to the network wirelessly. After going through Network diagnostics, and rebooting the modem+router, it comes with a message saying "Network changes detected", and then I can reconnect OK. The funny thing is, the IPod touch can always reconnect no problem, even if the line has dropped out since the last login. Given that I've got a crappy phone line conection, is this normal or is there something wrong with my Mac settings ?

  • Unable to connect to internet or print wirelessly on Boot Camp with Windows 7

I recently installed Boot Camp and Windows 7 on my Mac Book Pro with no problems.
A month later, I am unable to connect to internet or print wirelessly.
It states that I am connected to my router.
When I trouble shoot, it cannot find the problem.
My wireless connection and cable connection are fine on the MAC side.
    Please help.

looks a like a Windows 7 problem. I assume that you can click on the current connection info on the task bar and see a connection to your wireless router?  Have you updated your copy of Windows since it was working? I am wondering if it's an update that's applied in Windows which has done something.
