Unknown client or device name

Hi Experts,
I have a standalone AP 1242AG with IOS Version 12.4(21a)JA1 configured with WPA v2 and AES encryption and would like see Client Names when i use the CLI command "#sh dot11 associations client".
Currently my command output is only showing Device = Unknown and Name = Blank, below output:
P#sh dot11 associations client
802.11 Client Stations on Dot11Radio0:
SSID [CasaRanch] :
MAC Address    IP address      Device        Name            Parent         State
001f.e170.6eed xxx.xxx.xx.xx  unknown       -               self           Assoc
4860.bcb9.d787 xxx.xxx.xx.xx unknown       -               self           Assoc
Is possible change this behavior to show Netbios client name at least ???
What commands are required or configuration change ???
Thank in advance.,.,.

Shashidhar,
Thanks for your help! With your tips, I finally got it to work. For anyone else trying to modify report names based on user input after the sequential process model sets the file name path I will re tell what I did:
Edit the Ni_RerportGenerator.seq plugin found in C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\TestStand 2014\Components\Models\ModelPlugins\
You go into this file and add the step higlighted in Blue at that same location. Please see the expression I typed in the expression box. Setting Parameters.ReportOptions.NewFileNameForEachUUTStatus to true forces re-evaluation of the report name at the end of the sequentialmodel.seq.
Then you add a FileGlobal in the sequenatialmodel.seq. I called my FileGlobal ReportFileName
Then I added an expression in my test sequence that modified the the new FileGlobal I created:
Finally I updated the report options (Go to Cofigure>Report Options > Report File Pathname and under File/Directory Options select "Specify Report File Path by Expression" and I entered my expression. It appears that you can disregard the evaluated report file path error (box below) because your pathname won't be generated until run-time.
This worked well for me hopefully it will for others.
Thanks,
Marco

  • Change Android Device Name Using RD client - Is it possible?

Hello guys, i am having a problem.
I configured my RDC on windows server just fine, i can acess it through ddns.net without any problems.
However, i have some software installed on my windows server that only works with pre-authorized PC-NAME ... so my question is, where or how can i change my android device name whenever i use the RDC app?
Whenever i try to start that software i get the message "unable to open program ... D5803_4.4.4 not authorized to open it"
(D5803_4.4.4 is my android device name) ... how can i change this?
    thanks!

    Hi,
It seems there is no such way to change the RDP client name.
    Thanks for your understanding!

  • RADIUS/DECODE: parse unknown cisco vsa "profile-name" - IGNORE

    Dear Team,
I have faced an issue with dot1x mab authorization between cisco switch 3750 and ISE 1.1. I have cisco IP phone connected on port # gig1/0/1 to authenticated through MAB with cisco ISE
    int gig 1/0/1
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan 9
    switchport voice vlan 410
    authentication order mab dot1x
    authentication priority dot1x mab
    spanning-tree portfast
    authentication host-mode multi-domain
    authentication port-control auto
    dot1x pae authenticator
    mab
    dot1x timeout tx-period 3
    dot1x max-reauth-req 2
    authentication periodic
    authentication timer reauthenticate server
I can get authentication successfuly but can't download the authorization profile on the gig1/0/1 port since I can see that everything seems fine from the ISE side. the phone is authenticated and authorized fine. so, I debug the dot1x & radius flows from the switch side and get this result.

so, anybody have any idea to fix this issue.
    Regards

It is not the ACL it is ignoring, it's the profile-name, which it should, because it has nothing to use that for. However, you should look into VLAN 410, to check and see if you have any config relating to that vlan, the only actual error i see in your logs is the one regarding assigning vlan 410. Could you please post you entire switch config, see we can see what else you might have configured.

  • Setting Device Name (DNS Name?) of laptop

    Hi,
I have just bought a new wireless router (Netgear DG834PN) and I have a question which is hopefully fairly easy to answer. I'm guessing the answer will be the same for all Netgear routers.
When I log on to the Netgear router at 192.168.0.1 I can click on a menu option on the left hand side to see "Attached Devices" - ie. which computers are connected to my network. This shows my laptop as
"192.168.0.2 UNKNOWN 00:16:CB:BC:..:..". The UNKNOWN is under the device name column. Is this basically the DNS name for my laptop?
I have tried setting my computer name in Sharing (from System Preferences) and also tried setting the DHCP Client ID in the Network Settings for my Airport. Neither of these seems to have any effect.
How can I set my computer to display something more useful than UNKNOWN?
    Cheers,
    Tom

Try turning on Windows sharing in the Sharing Preference Pane. My experience with routers is this name comes from netbios or similar.

  • Device Name for Cisco Jabber

I found a document on Jabber Developer that explains all steps for the Cisco Jabber CUCM Setup Guide (http://developer.cisco.com/web/jabber-developer/jabber-sdk-cucm-guide), the phone type must be Cisco Unified Client Services Framework, everything fine, but says that the Device Name should be as ECP<username> when original setup guides says that must be as CSF<username>.
My users setup Device Name are as CSF<username>, but just to follow a best practice, should I change all Device Names to ECP<username>??
    Regards,
    Juan Carlos Arias

There's another thread on which someone mentioned some problems when using ECP for device name. Windows for jabber method of operation is the name of it. Do you have any configs using ECP??
Since I already have this in m lab working as expected i'll configure a couple of users with ECP and see if something changes, just wondering if you have something configured with ECP already.

  • How do I get device names to show on my airport express rather than the device ID?

When I look at devices that are running on my AirPort Extreme and airport express (running as a range extender) I only see their ID numbers. How do I get it so that I can see the device name?  In other words instead of it showing 00:11:D9:38:3C:DA it would show Nest Thermostat.  ive seen this on other peoples networks and cant seem to figure it out on mine

Things are hit and miss as far as client names being displayed in AirPort Utility. You might see a device name displayed at times and not at other times.
Unfortunately, Apple provides no settings or controls in AirPort Utility for this.   Things will not look like the nice Apple advertisements if that is what you might be hoping for.
You might want to let Apple know that you would like more control for this "feature".  If so, please use the link provided below.

  • Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use.

    I posted in : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/disconnected-network-drive-error-as-follows-an/9a877c38-5e86-4c34-84c2-427a965577c6?page=2
    Error:
"An error occurred while reconnecting drive letter to \\network server\share folder.
Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use.
This connection has not been restored."
    1) A workstation is running Windows 7
    2) The user has a drive letter mapped to a UNC
    3) The connection is interrupted at some point and then restored
    4) Upon attempting to access the mapped network drive, the user gets the error about the letter being
    already in use.
Extremely disappointed that some of the posts marked as answers were obviously not, shows how poor the moderators here are.
My latest results clearly point to a Windows 7 client problem:
    I received the error.
Had run nslookup so had a prompt open.
ran dir z:    worked. went to Windows Explorer, same error.
ran dir z:\sharename    worked. went to Windows Explorer, same error.
copy con z: test.txt then type test.txt; could create and retrieve file. Went and clicked on mapped drive in Windows explorer and received same error.
Obviously(?) not a Server or Networking problem. Ran Malwarebytes from bootable CD (client doesn't believe in AV). Didn't happen with USB flash drive.
    Any other ideas?

This is usually because the drive letter assigned to the network share is taken by something else. Maybe, by a removable drive.
Moderators and other answerers do their best to help specific cases, but everyone has their own situation.  Apply common sense to the replies you find in the forums.
When you typed dir z:  - is Z: the drive letter you wanted for this share, or it was automatically assigned?
    -- pa
Alternatively you could try using common sense when you post, as well as taking the time to read the entire issue post so that you can avoid showing both your ignorance and arrogance (arrogance without any competency to back it I might add).
Suggesting that it might be "another drive" that took over the mapping shows your lack of reading comprehension and is unhelpful.   Please take the time to, once again, read first.
Lastly moderators here generally show little technical skill beyond entering search words into a knowledge-base of articles and then applying the results incorrectly further exacerbating the situation for the customer.

  • Device name on MI 7.1 SP9

    Hi experts,
We updated our MI version to 7.1 SP9, or prior version was 7.1 SP8.
On mobile client there is no field to register de Device name like the prior version, where do I register the device name on client?
Another question, where can I find 7.1 SP9 release notes?
    Tanks,
    Gabriela

    Hi,
Please see that you following these steps:
a ) On a fresh installed client, create user same to DOE user
    b) Login, goto to ManageDevice-> Settings->Connection Settings from the main menu "System". Enter the system details (host, port etx).

  • Able to ping an IP address on my home network, but the device name fails

Hey there, it is possible this was answered previously, though I'm having difficulty finding the data.
What is happening is I am trying to get my MacBook to work where it can use my network device names instead of using the actual IP address (ie: MAINPC or PRINTER instead of 192.168.0.3). My PCs are having no issues resolving the names at this point, it is just the Mac. I'd like to be able to use the names as I prefer to use dynamic IP addressing on a lease of 24 hours, and it is just nicer to deal with mentally. The Mac can see the other machines in finder as well, so it looks like file sharing is set up correctly (The PCs can see the Mac as well using SMB).
The error message I am receiving is when I "ping MAINPC":
    cannot resolve MAINPC: Unknown host
(The same happens with the printer)
I will try to find out how to create static IPs on my local network if that is what it takes, just wondering if anyone else has run in to this issue, and resolved it.
Ultimately I am trying to set up access to my PC's perforce server, and knowing the address is crucial (I'll attack the firewall issues once this is resolved). Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm fairly new to the Mac experience.

Likely just an issue with the router you have. I have an ActionTec Q1000 rented from ISP - it does the same thing. Static IPAs versus dynamic ones won't help you.
Prior to its untimely death, a 2-Wire 2701HG-D router, also rented from the ISP before they replaced it with the Q1000, was robust enough to be able to resolve LAN hostnames to LAN IPAs. But no more.... Manually associating the hostname to the IPA in the Q1000's config pages does nothing.
So I bet you are just seeing the same lack of robustness in your router.
If worried about DHCP changing the IPA of a device, setting up a range of static and a range of dynamic IPAs in the router will help. The router should have a section in its config pages to "enable DHCP." In there, there is likely a place where you can define a range of DHCP addresses. Anything outside that range but within the subnet mask would be available for static assignment. For example, suppose your subnet is 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.255 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0). IF you declare your DHCP pool to be 192.168.0.128-192.168.0.254, then 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.127 will be available for static IPA assignment (I am assuming the router has assigned 192.168.0.1 to itself).
With the Macs, then, as you probably know, this is set in  > Sys Prefs > Network > {interface} Advanced > TCP/IP. I usually choose configure "using DHCP with manual address." That saves me having to enter subnet mask and router IPA. But you could just as easily use "manually." Printers and other devices, you'd have to refer to their user guides.

  • Device name already exists changed to

A couple of months back I upgraded my SLES 10sp1 servers to SLES 10sp2 using ZLM. My ZLM server is running SLES 11 and version 7.3 of ZLM. My SLES 10sp2 servers are running the ZLM 7.3 client. When I look in ZCC under the Hot List it shows my main ZLM 7.3 SLES 11 server with a warning status for almost all my hosts. When I click on that to see what is going on the Event log states: Device name already existed, changed to MYSLES10HOSTNAME while attempting to register host: MYSLES10HOSTNAME I clear all these events and later on they are back. Sometimes the same ones sometimes others. I currently maintain about 200 servers using ZLM and the Event log has 44 devices with this message. What setting do I need to change or delete? Or better yet what do I need to do to correct this behavior?
    Thanks!

This happens normally when you register one host against the zlm server, stop zmd, delete the deviceid and secret file, start zmd and register it again against the zlm server without deleting the existing device in the zlm web interface.
What happens at this time is that the zlm client registers with the deviceid and the secret against the zlm server. In the web interface you see the hostname of it. If you open the details, you see the guid of the host which equals the deviceid.
When the zlm client communicates with the zlm server it uses the deviceid and the secret to login and query the bundles, catalogs and policies assigned to it.
So now when the zlm client is stopped, the files deleted, the zlm recreates them the next time it is started. After registering against the zlm server, it tries to login with the new deviceid and the new secret. There is already such a host entry, therefor it renames one and register with the new values again.
Do you have maybe a cron job or something that deletes those files and restarts the zlm client ?

  • The local device name is already in use - Mapped Drive

I am having an issue with users losing their mapped drives to a Server 2012 box when they come into work the next day.  The error message is "The local device name is already in use".
Autodisconnect has been disabled on both the server and workstations as per Microsoft KB articles, and the only way to correct the issue is a re-boot of the workstation.
I doubt it is the workstations that are the issue as drives mapped to Server 2008r2 do not experience this issue.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    >>I am having an issue with users losing their mapped drives to a Server 2012 box when they come into work the next day.  The error message is "The local device name is already in use".
To tackle the issue, we can try to remove the existing network mapping, and then create a new network mapping for the share.
In addition, although the following KB applies to Window XP, it focuses on the similar issue and can be referred to as reference.
You may receive the "The local device name is already in use" error message when you try to restore a network mapping connection to a shared network folder on a Windows XP-based client

  • Device Name Sporadically Changing ZENworks Agent Properties

I'm having a problem with a few Dell Windows 7 machines using ZENworks Configuration Management (ZCM) 10.3.4 client.
The problem is the device name, in the ZENworks Adaptive Agent Properties, is sporadically changing and reassigning with other device names and sharing the device name with another computer.
All the machines have been built from a single image, using R-Drive Image software, with the ZCM client already built-in to the image.
In attempt to resolve the problem, I've uninstalled the ZCM client, CASA as well as deleting the device name from the Zenworks Control Center (ZCC).
Re-installed the ZCM client and again received a different device name of a different workstation.
I've already tried using Zenworks AgentCleanup tool to remove the ZCM client and deleted the device name from the ZCC, but it did not resolve the problem.
I can only assume the problem lies within the image compiled with the ZCM client. How do I stop this from continually happening and make the ZCM report the correct device name and if possible, without having to create a new image?

    Hi,
this document you use seems to be wrong.
You need to enter configuration details like system, ID, Port, client. Once done, you need to create a device in MI7.1 admin portal. In there you define the device by name and add a user to the device. You need to enable the device.
Once you have done this, you can sync your device and it will get the name of he device from MI Server. The default mapping between MI Server and device is done by username, not by devicename. So even if you would ener a device name on your device, it would be overwritten by middleware at first sync.
Also: be aware, you need to have a deic ein state Initial/enabled for this user before you snyc a device first time.
    Hope this helps!

  • Apple Device Names not always showing

    Hello,
Just about 48 hours ago I had a system shut down and after I reset the Time capsule and two AirPort Expresses, I noticed when I clicked on any device in the Airport Utility that no device names were listed, just the Wi-Fi Address detail, why? And is there a a fix.
    Thank You

That is the way it now works.
Here is mine this morning.. sometimes you get names.. sometimes you get MAC addresses.. Mostly now just MAC addresses. There are no controls to what you see.
There is a full summary page.. you hold down option key and double click the TC icon.. that will allow you some more info about the client. But not the name.
To find the names you will need to do a netstat scan..
Or load 5.6 utility somehow .. so you can actually find some more info.
Because I stuck with Mountain Lion i can have 5.6 utility as well and therefore have real info.
2 steps forward with each release.. and 3 backwards.

  • I have an airport extreme 2013.  Why does my airport utility sometimes display IP addresses and other times the names of the devices?  I want it to always display the device names.

I have an airport extreme 2013. Why does my airport utility sometimes display IP addresses and other times the names of the devices? I want it to always display the device names.

The utility has had less and less useful information .. it might be time to simply find a different utility.
Fing network scanner. iphone and ipad.
    https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/fing-network-scanner/id430921107?mt=8
This is very popular.. I do not know of what works well on Mac OS because i have installed 5.6 utility which of course has far more info than the later toy version. Plus using an Asus router which has excellent listing of all the clients.
Sometimes beating yourself up to make apple routers do what you want is easier solved with lateral thinking.
