Update Groups Not Providing Deployment Status

Software Updates Groups for Windows 7 were created on a monthly basis from November 2013 to June 2014. Each of these deployments are having issues reporting any data in the "Deployments" Section of SCCM.
Patch groups created prior to November 2013, and Past June 2014 appear to be fine, and are distributing content and installing updates with ANY issue.
Upon recreating the "broken" patch groups - nothing appears to change. I've went as far as to deleting the content, and renaming everything, recreating all the groups, and still no luck.
Any suggestions regarding why these groups may fail to provide any deployment status?

Hi,
Have these updates been installed on clients? What's the status in the Deployments section? Please check the deployment status from software update reports.
Best Regards,
Joyce

  • Software Update Group not created...?

    SCCM 2012 R2
So I'm working on patching up our servers and am not sure how the Software Update Group gets created.
I created an Automatic Deployment Rule for the group of machines I want to patch and chose to Add to an existing Software Update Group.  However, it never prompted me for what group to update.  I checked under Software Update Groups and only have
ones from our workstations that have been in there for a while.
Do I have to manually create the Software Update Group for the servers to use and if so, where do I do that in the Confir Manager program?
Also, on a side note, when I view my ADRs, a couple of them say: Auto Deployment Rule results exceeded maximum number of updates.  Not sure if that's when I need to somehow break them up into Monthly groups or something like that?
I know there's a hard limit of updates per something but this was all originalyl configured by an external consultant so no one here is fully up to speed on all the nuances yet.
    Thanks!

OK, so my ADRs are setup so that they all run on a certain date and then the have a 0, 7, or 14 day delay on when the patches become available so certain groups patch each weekend.  Since they all failed with the Too many patches error, I need to redo
them.  If I make the changes and then do a "Run Now" to force them to update, will it start the 7 day delay over from when I do the Run Now or will that still go from the original date?
And if I have the patches set to Deadline immediately, but have maintenance windows setup as Saturday 1AM - 11PM, and do not have the checkboxes checked to allow them to go outside a maintenance window, I can still do the Run Now any time and all the patches
will then install at 1 AM on Saturday.  right?  Just don't want things to start installing in the middle of the day and mess everything up. :)
    Thanks!

  • Adapter has not provided any status information about this channel

    Hi Team
We are facing a weird issue in sender MAIL adapter. We are using POP3 for reading the emails. The adapter runs fine and some time say once in a month it goes in error status with the below error
Once we stop and start the channel, it starts working again.
I have searched in SCN but did not find any helpful clue.
Can you please help me to find out the root cause of this problem.

    Hi Hareesh
Checked the NWA logs but did not found anything for mail adapter.
I haven't restart the XPI Adapter: Mail. Just curious to find out why it happens??

  • Membership of Domain Admins group not providing full NTFS access?

I recently tried to check the properties of a folder on the network to see what the total file size of its contents was (on a Server 2008 R2 server, logged on using my domain admin account). The total size of the contents reported was ony 6 MB. This was a folder I knew to contain subfolders totalling in excess of 300 GB, so something wasn't right. When I drilled down a level, I realized that the subfolders would also not let me check their properties or browse to them until I elevated my access in a UAC prompt. Apparently, I don't have read access to those folders, even though Domain Admins has full access to them and I am a member of Domain Admins.
This makes no sense! On the other hand...

  • Not liking Deployment Status Monitoring in SCCM 2012 - Not enough detail

I know SCCM 2012 has made some fantastic changes to offering tools for deploying packages.  I am using and learning a lot about deploying apps using the new features of SCCM 2012 Application Management.  I still have a few apps that I need to deploy
the old way using Packages.  With the old way, I liked using task sequences and conditions with WMI Queries.  One item I found out quickly is that I am having issues with SCCM 2012 recognizing some name spaces such as root\cimv2\sms.  I am still
researching why.  The other item is reporting of advertisements or what SCCM 2012 now calls Deployments.  I am unable to find a way to get more detailed reporting on deployments that I had with SCCM 2007 using the right click tools and advertisement
reports.  The details of these reports in SCCM 2007 was really good and I was able to troubleshoot each step of a task sequence.  All I can find with SCCM 2012 is a simple description that says the "Program completed with success" or the program
failed.  Is there a way to easily get more detailed reports much like I had with SCCM 2007?  I know I am missing something really simple.  Any insight would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    BJ

It's an old thread and all, but I'd like to add to the last post.
Pellewall has 400 application type deployments - I feel bad for him. We've converted almost all of ours into packages, because application deployment doesn't Work as reliably as packages. We can't get applications to install in task sequences, and sometimes
simple installs fail for wierd reasons when deployed as application, but perform fine using the same install string as a package launched thru cmd (both as system user).
We've been using sccm 2012 for 1½ years now roughly, and I'd discourage anyone from making application type programs if they don't want a headache.
As for reporting - the builtin reports need to be modified to become useful, but they're a nice extra to have. I find the old reporting system in 2007 was much simpler and faster than srs though, but that might just be my opinion.
As times change, so do people.

  • How can I tell what Software Update Groups are members of Deployment Packages?

    I have a single SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 server running on Windows Server 2012.
I am trying to clean things up a little bit and I am curious:
How can I tell which Software Update Groups use
which Deployment Packages?  I don't see it on the Properties of either one.
    Thanks!

Funny thing is that you can't see from the software update (in the software update group) in which deployment package(s) it exists. Your only options are manually comparing every single update (not really an option), or use PowerShell and do something
    like this:

  • Added additional update to software update group, do I need to deploy it?

    Hi,
I am fairly new to SCCM and I am not sure about this. Couple days ago I downloaded some windows updates and placed them into a software update group 2015Clients and created the required deployments. So today I found an additional update that needed
to be added to this update group 2015clients. So I downloaded the additional update and it was placed into the 2015Clients deployment package. My first question is why is it in the deployment package 2015Clients and not in the software update group 2015Clients
as well? Second question, the new update that is now in the deployment package group says that it is not deployed like the other updates do. Do I need to deploy this new update? I was confused because when I tried to deploy it using the same deployment name
as the other updates it wants me to use a different name. TIA

Downloading an additional update doesn't directly add an update to an update group. Those are two separate things and by that two separate actions. There is no direct link between an update group and a deployment package.
The deployed update group tells the client which updates it should install and the deployment package is the method to make the content of the update available.

  • Adding new Updates makes Reports show compliance status as "Enforcement state unknown". Old updates are still installing though.

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has seen this before and resolved it?
Basically, 2012 Software Updates have been working fine for over a year. Last months Patch Tuesday updates were fine too.
However, this week I added a new update to a Software Update Group/deployment. This update did not deploy, and when I run a report, I get "Enforcement state unknown" for ALL clients in the collection. This happens to any deployment I amend. And
also if I create a new update group and new deployment - same thing - "enforcement status unknown".
However, updates previous to this week continue to download and install fine for all deployments. Deployments which I have not changed appear to continue to report correctly (unknown, compliant, pending system restart, etc).
In the SCCM console for Software Updates, the "required" and "installed" figures are still showing correctly.
Custom software packages continue to download and install too.
All servers have sufficient disk space. Most collections dont have maintenance windows, and the deadlines are correct.
Not sure what this could be, a problem with the Management Point? But I can see any errors in the "monitoring" view on the server. The client log files like "wuahandler.log" and "windowsUpdate.log" appear fine also, no obvious
    errors.
I cant see any evidence of a group policy conflict. The WSUS entry is still correct in the local group policy (GPEDIT.MSC/admin template/windows comp/ windows update).
    Any ideas here? Thanks

There were absolutely no errors in WUAhandler.log on existing machines - all looked normal, which baffled me. Machines with newly installed SCCM client only had machine and user policy update, so could not check for Software Updates.
However, I through web searches, I found a solution on another discussion here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/1cefa9e0-a7f9-48d1-83b9-34d2293bab64/sccm-2012-r2-problem-with-device-deployment-user-deployments-ok?forum=configmanagerapps
Basically the issue was described as a "corrupt PADBID in the database". A SQL query code detects if the issue is present, and another SQL code fixes the issue.
What lead me to this fix was searching for this error in "CCMEXEC.LOG" online: "System task 'PolicyEvaluator_Unlock' returned error code 0x8000ffff".

  • SCCM 2012: Assigned updates to update group don't get there deployment

    Hello,
    Problem:
When I assign available updates to the update group the updates are not getting there deployment. Deployed: NO
    (Previous months no problem)
    Situation:
    SCCM 2012 SP1
We made different Update groups. Example:
    Windows 2008 R2
This group is deployed to different collections and has several deployments.
    Steps taken:
Downloaded the new updates to Windows 2008 R2 Deployment Package (no errors)
Edit Membership and added updates to the Windows 2008 R2 update group (no errors)
When I check the update group I see the assigned updates in the group. The Downloaded Status is YES but the Deployed status is NO. When I check the update deploymensts it has no deployments.
Any idea where to find a solution for the problem? Which logs files to check?
    Greetings

You could try and run this sql query to check the database directly and see if IsDeployed = 1 here. If that is the case there is just the console that is not updated. You'll need to change the Config Item ID (in red) to match the ID of your group, you'll
find this in the console. (Right click columns and add it)

  • Deployment Status - In progress - Successfully installed updates

Patches have recently been deployed to our workstations and I am getting the following results.
Can anyone explain why I get the "Successfully installed updates" under In Progress, yet when I look under Compliant the machines are not listed.  Does this mean that they have received some of the packages in the deployment but not all?
I am confused because if I run the report "Computers in a specific compliance state for an update group (secondary), then the machines listed under Successfully installed, appear in the list, so to me that suggests they are compliant???

Notice the "last status time". Information in the console almost always lags behind the actual state of clients and deployments. This information is summarized on a periodic basis. Reports are always your best source of up-to-date and accurate info.

  • Updates not getting deployed on servers

    Logs from
    updatedeployment.log:
created a seprate collection and applied maintenance window to that--no luck
Used deployment option as As Soon As possible but no luck
tried option to install patches outside maintenance window--no luck
For deployment I tried existing software update group as well as new software update group but issue is still the same.
    Please help me.

    Guys,
This issue seems to be resolved. Not sure what was the exact issue but I am relating this to a other issue which we were facing on SCCM server. Actually CPU usage for our SCCM server was fluctuating to 100% and due to this everything was working very
slow, we added CPU cores to the server yesterday and when today I checked that all updates were pushed on the servers as I selected to patch them outside maintenance window.
Apart from that for some server the deployment status is changed to waiting for maintenance window which were stuck on
    downloading updates earlier.
Can someone please let me know how the CPU usage directly affects software deployment?
    Thanks,
    VST

  • Deployment Status not reflecting correct application installation status

    Morning All,
Running into an issue where the application Deployment Status does not properly reflect the state of the application install.
The software installs, works properly and is reported in Software Center on the client PC as being installed succesfully however the status within CAS shows "In Progress" with a description of "Program started".
The application in question is Cisco Network Access Manager which terminates the network connection and requires a reboot before restoring.  Additionally the site is behind a NAC switch which adds another layer of security to the network at that loation.
Currently I have deployed to 90 test machines - 65 of which have reported in as succesfull, the remaining 25 have installed and are working but are not being updated in the Deployment Status.
I have checked the Sender.log on the site server and link analyzer between the primary & secondary.  I have also checked the client heartbeat and statemessage.log all seems well - no errors reported.
Additionally I have reviewed the WMI status on the client and repaired (just in case).
Through google search I have also ran the following:
    Option Explicit
    On Error Resume Next
    Call RefreshServerComplianceState
    ' WScript.Echo "Finished"
    Sub RefreshServerComplianceState()
    ' Initialize the UpdatesStore variable.
    dim newCCMUpdatesStore
    ' Create the COM object.
    set newCCMUpdatesStore = CreateObject ("Microsoft.CCM.UpdatesStore")
' Refresh the server compliance state by running the RefreshServerComplianceState method.
    newCCMUpdatesStore.RefreshServerComplianceState
    ' Output success message.
    ' wscript.echo "Ran RefreshServerComplianceState."
    End Sub
As well as forcing a check in from the client and running the summarization on the CAS.
So far nothing seems to trigger an update.  I'm hoping someone can point me in the proper direction in regards to diagnosing this problem.
    Many thanks, Jeff

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

  • Need help to check the software update deployment status before restart the VM

    Hello,
I'm just trying to automate the windows patch deployment for several VM's, I build the entire logic like below,
            Deploy software update --> wait for sometime-->Restart --> Check deployment status(collection = iscomplaint) -->stop
I know here I'm missing the logic of not checking the patch deployment status before restarting, Can someone help here plz?

    Hello
you can configure a loop for your Activity " Get deployment status(filtered the collection name " until status is succeeded, failed with an embedded loop: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh403826.aspx

I deleted a Software Update group prior to removing the deployment attached. I am not unable to remove the deployment nor recreate the deployment with the same name through the Config Manager.
Is there a was to remove the deployment package?
    Thanks.

I deleted a Software Update group prior to removing the deployment attached. I am not unable to remove the deployment nor recreate the deployment with the same name through the Config Manager.
That should also have removed the deployment of the software update group then.
