Update not displaying foreign language characters

I just upgraded to iTunes 9.1 for Windows 7, and now when I open it, the library no longer displays foreign characters (most specifically Japanese and Korean) anymore. It just shows boxes where the text should be. I'm worried that if I re-sync my iPod, it will only display boxes on that, too. Before I updated, everything was working fine and the library had no problem displaying foreign characters. Is there a way to fix this problem?

  • Dynamic Text Field is not displaying foreign characters... HELP!

    I have a dynamic text field that is not displaying foreign characters properly. They appear as boxes.
    Here's what I've tried.
    Under properties for the text field, I clicked on the embed characters button. In there, I pasted all the special characters I would need and clicked okay. Shouldn't this be enough for the text to display properly? What am I missing? Please help...

    More info: I'm noticing that in the actual dynamic text field in my .FLA file, if I type a foreign character like é, it pops up as a block. My family font is set to New Caledonia... is it possible that New Caledonia doesn't have those particular glyphs? The thing that doesn't make sense to me though is, last year when I made this card, it worked fine with New Caledonia... Any help is greatly appreciated!!

  • Reading a text file with foreign language characters

    I'm trying to convert foreign language characters to English looking characters.  I have code that works, but only if I hard code the string with foreign language characters and pass it to the function. I cannot figure out how to get my program to read
    in the foreign characters from my file, they come in as garbage.
    Since the function works when I pass a hard coded string to it, I'm pretty sure the problem is the way I have the Streamreader set up, it's just not reading the characters correctly...
    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
    Dim FileRdr As StreamReader = New StreamReader "m:\test\charReplace.txt", System.Text.Encoding.UTF7)
    Dim ReplaceWrtr As StreamWriter ReplaceWrtr = System.IO.File.CreateText("M:\test\CharReplaceOut.txt")
    Do While FileRdr.Peek() >= 0
    Dim currentRec As String = FileRdr.ReadLine
    removeAccent(currentRec)
    ReplaceWrtr.WriteLine(currentRec)
    Loop
    ReplaceWrtr.Close()
    End Sub
    'Replace foreign language characters with English characters
    Function removeAccent(ByVal myString As String)
    Dim A As String = "--"
    Dim B As String = "--"
    Const AccChars As String = "ŠŽšžŸÀÁÂÃÄÅÇÈÉÊËÌÍÎÏÐÑÒÓÔÕÖÙÚÛÜÝàáâãäåçèéêëìíîïðñòóôõöùúûüýÿ"
    Const RegChars As String = "SZszYAAAAAACEEEEIIIIDNOOOOOUUUUYaaaaaaceeeeiiiidnooooouuuuyy"
    For i As Integer = 1 To Len(AccChars)
    A = Mid(AccChars, i, 1)
    B = Mid(RegChars, i, 1)
    myString = Replace(myString, A, B)
    Next
    removeAccent = myString
    End Function
    I know that removing the accent changes the meaning of the word, but this is what the user wants so it's what I need to do.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!! :)
    Thanks!

    Finally got it to work.  I had to remove the first 5 characters from the replacement string (ŠŽšžŸ), couldn't find encoding that would handle these, and to be honest, I didn't really need them.  The important ones are still there, was probably
    just overkill on my part.
    UTF7 worked for the rest...
    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
    Dim FileRdr As StreamReader = New StreamReader("m:\test\charReplace.txt", System.Text.Encoding.UTF7)

    For i As Integer = 1 To Len(AccChars)
    A = Mid(AccChars, i, 1)
    B = Mid(RegChars, i, 1)
    myString = Replace(myString, A, B)
    Next

  • FDM - Errors with Foreign Language Characters in Load Files

    For our Netherlands data import file, our source account decriptions contain the character "ë". The account decription is not loaded to HFM, but we are receiving error messages when importing. Is there a way to ignore foreign language characters? Another post suggested "Administration", "Configuation Settings", "File Encoding Type" then set to "Unicode", but the version I am using does not have this option. Version is 11.1.1.3.
    Thank you!
    Melody

    Hello Melody,
    If you are using FDM v11.1.1.3.00 the file-encoding is defaulted to Unicode. It might be helpful to contact support.
    It could be your DB isn't setup to handle unicode characters (in this event the information would be stored in the SQL*Loader or MSSQL Logs). It could also be the file you are trying to import actually isn't "unicode" but more of a local ANSI/ASCII format.
    Most 'European' characters were supported in that release; and I know several clients that use it as expected.
    Thank you,

    These are user to user help forums.  To tell Apple you want more fonts for Thai, go here:

    But I suspect this is likely one of those things for which you will always have to use a full computer rather than a iPad.

  • Getting weird adobe pop-up with foreign language characters and no download

    For the last week and change, it seems every time I have been prom,ptsd to download something from done reader, when I click on the "trust website", instead of the page and download opening up, I get an Adobe pop-up with completely foreign language (several different, it looks like) characters, and nothing to click on, and no download.  I'm on a Mac, version 10.8.5, on Safari.  What gives?????

    Thank you for the screenshot.  The text in the message says
    Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement then quit and relaunch the browser.
    So all you need to do is to open the Adobe Reader app, accept the EULA, then restart your browser.
    I don't know why this message is displayed in Japanese, but I have seen similar reports in this forum for the latest Adobe Reader on Mac.

  • OLE Objects are not displayed properly-overlap characters and empty page

    I'm using CR4E 12 Runtime libraries to load and view reports that are created in CR designer  v10. Some of the OLE Objects (not all) are not displayed properly.
    1) A full page contains terms and conditions as ole object is not at all displayed and just shown as black image.
    2) Some data in a table (OLE Object) shown as overlapped characters.
    Any body know the reason and is there any workaround to solve this issue?
    Thankyou very much for your time.

    Your problem seems to be with the character encoding you are using for your text.  A quick google search for ColdFusion character encoding should turn up the answer.  In case you are interested in learning more:

  • Display foreign language fonts on iPad's Safari

    Hi, I am trying to read some Sinhalese (Sri Lankan) news web sites on iPad using Safari but it is not displaying Sinhalese fonts correctly, just gibberish. But same web sites display fonts correctly on latest Safari version on my PC. Can some one please tell is there anything I can try on iPad to display fonts correctly?

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks very much for your comment. Here are 2 web sites I normally go.
    http://www.lankaenews.com/Sinhala/
    http://www.lankanewsweb.com/Sinhala/
    Thanks for the links.  These are non-Unicode sites that use 1990's Windows-only technology to embed custom .eot fonts in the web page.  As far as I know, no Mac could ever view them without the user finding a copy of the special "sandaru" font and installing manually on the machine.   That's totally impossible for any iOS device.
    You might want to ask the sites to create a Unicode alternative version of their pages for non-Windows viewers who are using the international standard for Sinhala encoding.
    For an example of modern Unicode sites, which should display fine on your iPad, see

  • Greek language notes display loses accented characters

    I can type in Greek in TextEdit, save the file as Unicode (UTF-16), and drag it into my iPod Notes folder.
    In OS10.4 I can use accented characters in TextEdit but, when the file is loaded onto the iPod, it omits the accented characters. They aren't displayed incorrectly - they simply aren't displayed at all.
    Anyone ever tried uploading Greek to an iPod? Any Greek users out there?
    Martin

    Yes, the accented characters appear OK on my wife's video iPod.
    I suppose there's no chance that Apple will update the software on my not-very-old color iPod?
    No, I thought not. Money-grabbing *****s.
    I love Apple but not ALL the time.

  • Why are my browsers suddenly displaying foreign language?

    and how do i fix it. both safari and ff started displaying some content (not all) in foreign characters. for example, going to cnn.com, some article headers are no longerr english. or on wikipedia's english site, most of the content is no longer in english. anyone know how can fix this. and for the record, apple.com is still in english. thanks.

    Where are you located? I have lived in Mexico for years and have had all my sights in English, just last month all my sites defaulted to Spanish, I had to go into preferences on each program and put the default language into English. I am not sure why it started to do this, and it was a pain to go into all the programs and change it. One note though, Facebook can take several tries to default to English and it will at times revert back to Spanish when it wants. If you are in the U.S. your default should be English and I would check my internet address to make sure it is a U.S. address. Their are several sites you can go to check this. this site will tell you where your IP is from. http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?Getlocation

    Your command line window may not support Unicode characters, which is not related with the functioning of the language Java by itself. Try file output or Swing applicaiton instead.

    Hi
    Go to Safari Preferences>Appearance. The Default Encoding ought to read "Western (ISO Latin 1). If your setting is different, click on the drop down menu and change to the above. Then, try a web site.
