Update screwed my ipod mini

Okay so i downloaded the updater for my mini and because it copied a whole slab of my library dodgy the first time i used it to wipe the memory so i could start again. BUT it now puts the songs on the iPod, but then doesnt recognise that they are on their. The memory is full but there is nothing to play according to the ipod. Also itunes then says it cant read the ipod and to wipe it again. It is becoming a vicious cirle that is VERY quickly making me want to burn my ipod!
HELP!

ITunes can't read your iPod: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61771
You can reset your iPod, if you like. Press and hold the MENU and CENTER buttons - at the same time - until you see the Apple logo, this should take about 6 seconds. You want to do this while your iPod is plugged into your computer.

  • Can't Update or Restore iPod Mini

My iPod Mini shows up in Windows, but instantly says 'Do not disconnect' even when fully charged. iTunes doesn't recognise it and the Updater usually hangs. I've tried everything including the 5 R's and have followed the steps in this article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716. When I use the Windows 'safely remove hardware' function, I get an error message saying Windows was trying to write data to the device - I can't see any way of stopping this, even after removing iTunes and the Updater from the PC. The last step offered by Apple is to reinstall Windows, but I don't see why I should have to do this as Norton SystemWorks tells me everything is working fine. Since quite a few other people seem to have been having similar problems recently, could this be to do with an automatically-installed Windows update causing a conflict?

I am having all the same trouble with my Nano. It was working beautifully until today, when I noticed that it was not showing up in the Itunes menu. Itunes says it's not connected, but my computer and it have a fine connection with power, etc. I have tried all of the steps, etc., and have had no luck. Now it will not let me restore it. I get a message saying that there are other applications using Ipod... but I have shutdown everything. I am just stumped. Any suggestions anyone?

  • Updater killed my iPod Mini!

I purchased an iPod Mini off of my boss last week, as he purchased an iPod Nano and no longer has any need for it.
I installed iTunes on my Toshiba Satellite at work, hooked up my iPod, and I while I was removing songs from the unit (which worked just fine prior to all of this), I was prompted to download and install Updater.
I installed updater, hooked up my mini, and let it do its thing, until it said to plug the unit into an ac adapter to reflash the hardware (?). Ever since, there has been an image of an AC adapter plugging into an outlet that stays on the screen, and even after plugging it into numerous outlets, computers, and USB ports, I can't get any computer to recognize the unit, and I can't get this image off of the screen (except for when I restart it and the apple image briefly appears).
I have tried resetting my iPod numerous times by toggling the hold button and depressing select and menu simultaneously for ten seconds. I have also read that I should try depressing menu and play, and nothing helps. I can't help but be discouraged.
Any words of wisdom for me? Perhaps there is something that I haven't tried (spin around three times, pray facing east, burn sage, make a sacrifice to Cthulhu, etc.)

(Sorry to the mac mini folks for posting in the incorrect forum in the first place. It's been a long week.)

Try any/all of these tips below. Some you may have seen, others may be new....
First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” (or something similar).
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.
    Also See:
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod

If all else fails, there have been some successes using the information in this post below. WARNING: I have absolutely no clue to what this download file does, and introducing it into your PC environment is risky. Some Forum posters have experienced less than benign results. Proceed at you own risk.

  • Update screwed my iPod!!!

I connected my iPod nano (3rd Gen... 8GB) and iTunes (on MacBookPro)
offered to update... it downloaded and did the update, and now my
iPod just flashes an apple logo on/off/on/off... and I CANNOT do
any sort of reset on it.
Thanks Apple for screweing my iPod and all the work (yeah, of course
no backup yet... just got it couple of days ago).
What do I do now? I'm just going to let it drain down overnight
    I guess.
I've tried all the keycombo's I can find including sliding the
switch to the right and left just before doing the combos.

this is the problem that many users encounter.
after you disconnect, then reset by holding menu&select and immediately thereafter enter disc mode by pressing play&select you should be able to reset with itunes.
if you haven't updated to 1.0.1 before you need the corresponding update-files (from a mac-user) to force itunes to go back to 1.0.1

  • Wow update screwed up iPod great

This may be the last Apple product I buy.
I was holding off to update my iPod touch because it seems every release there is a problem.  Something screwing up battery life or another major problem.
Well I decided to update it.
It takes 15 minutes to download then takes another 10 to attempt to install.
Finishes installing...  The iPod cannot be updated.
iPod restarts with the iTunes + USB logo.
Now it says it has to restore my iPod.
All songs, all playlists, and PHOTOS I NEED will be deleted if I restore.
    Honestly can't believe this crap.
Anyway to get off my playlists and photos?  I NEED the photos espicially.

You updated your ipod without importing all pics to your comptuer first?  Why would you do this?
Did you also fail to transfer all purchases befoire updating? Why?
You should never update without making sure that everything is on your computer first.  Same as with any computer, device.
Buying a different product will not help if you do not do the basics.

  • Ipod software update screwed my Ipod up.

I went into settings, then the "general" section. When I went to get the software update, the screen went immeaditatly blank. It is also not registering onto my computer.

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
To allow a restore you may have to place the iPod in Recovery mode.
Also, if you can't turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least an hour try a reset, and restore.

  • Ipod mini software update!

Is there a way to uninstall the recent software update of the ipod mini as i am having problems with adding songs to ipod that i was not having before the update. re-setting ipod via the updater doesn't do the trick!

"re-setting ipod via the updater doesn't do the trick! "
You can't reset the iPod via the updater, you can only restore or update the software.
In order to revert to an older version of the software, you would have to find an older updater (on your computer or the installation disk perhaps?) and use that.

  • Plug in 30gb video ipod Recognised in iTunes as a Silver ipod mini.

this other day liek a week ago i plug in my ipod video 30GB with software 1.1.2 and iTunes recognises it as a Silver iPod mini.. so then when it finishes updating as an iPod mini i have no more videos/photos/song photos/etc. but when i re-plug it its ok..

If everything is working fine now, I wouldn't worry about it. If it happens again, post back.
A glitch can occur when iTunes reads the iPod and cause this. It can be because of a bad USB port, an older version of iTunes, a USB hub, etc.

  • Unable to update Ipod mini / Computer not responding to Ipod

I recently switched computers and I installed the iPod mini software onto my new computer. This worked at first but when I started moving music from iTunes onto my iPod from my new computer, the downloads would stop even though the music had not been fully downloaded. When I checked my iPod, the new music was not there. I downloaded the new iTunes and the new updater. I then tried to update my iPod software but it said "Firmware failure" and then my iPod mini started showing me the exclamation mark folder every time I turned it on. I tried to restore the iPod using my new computer but everytime I tried to do that, it showed "Firmware failure." Next, I plugged my iPod mini into my old computer and used an old update program to restore the iPod and it worked. When I plugged the iPod back into my new computer, the computer would take a long time to recognize the player but iTunes wouldn'recognize it at all. When I try to update the ipod mini software, it shows initializing for a long time before the program crashes.
What should I do to get this ipod working again?

ok try this ...... this is the totally resetting things to do !!!!! first holthe center and the menu down when the apple comes then hold the center and the play down...... then it should be totally reset.... then install the new ipod updater and itunes 4.9 and then try if it works ...........

  • I have an iPOD mini library and now have a IPhone 4S.  I updated my library and synced my phone to the library but can not figure out how to get the music library to download to my  iphone

I have an iPod mini library which I have update. I now have an iPhone 4S which I have synced to the library using a MS XP computer. I can not figure out how to get the library to download to my iPhone?

Thanks,  This caused me to go back and try again since the solution seemed so simple.  What I did was when it started downloading, it started with the iphones apps to my computer.  I did not want the apps downloaded on my computer so I stopped it.  If I would have waited, the music was uploaded right after the apps were downloaded.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
