Upgrade Costs Too High

Does anyone else feel that the cost for upgrades is ridiculously highly?
Adobe has a great product CS but over the past few versions, I have felt that the changes to the new versions don't warrant the $800 - 1000+ costs for the upgrades. Those prices are more warranted for new full versions, but upgrades for 1 or 2 versions back should be 1/4 of what they are charging.

Thanks,
I did post it on the link you provided.
have a great day.

I have a macbook pro OS leopard 10.5.8. I've synced it with an iPad 2. I cannot access the cloud because my OS is insufficient. Problem is most of my most- used applications would not work with a too-high system upgrade. I can't afford to upgrade all my apps. I need to know: what would be the least-high system upgrade I can install in order to access the cloud on my new iPad 2?

Define "access the cloud". I can access my iCloud.com account on my 5 year old iMac at work running OS X 10.4.11 Tiger. I can download and upload Word documents and Pages documents in the iWorks section of my iCloud.com account.
What do you want to access in "the cloud"?
Snow Leopard would be your next system upgrade and you should be OK with the CS3 applications, and Office 2008. I cannot confirm that the other applications will work.
This is quite old, but take a look or Google the other applications to see if they are compatible with SL.

I install latest update from my ipad 2, after the upgrade tablet running slowly. Probably the system requirements too high for my device. I think that users with older models should be able to install IOS 6.x.x on their devices or consider buying devices from other manufacturers ...
People are dissatisfied with the new update a lot, including some of my friends and acquaintances. Is it reasonable to wait until Apple implements the possibility to return to Ios Ios 6 to 7? And how soon it can be done?
Sorry for my english, i am from Russia.

I have a similar issue. I recently purchased an iPad Mini, and I started off by backing it up from the apps I had on my iPhone. Now, I have a number of apps that never downloaded and that I don't want on the iPad. Some of these are apps that I don't need, while others are the iPhone versions of apps. There are something like 23 apps that I have no use for, but iTunes tries to install every time I connect. I've also tried clicking the 'Will Install' buttons. There's no way to delete these apps from the iPad without first installing them, as far as I can see, and there's no way to NOT install them, in iTunes.
It''s not just annoying, it's causing problems with installation of larger files and movies. Now, every time I sync to the computer, I get a warning that I'm over capacity by 580 MB, and larger apps will not install! Clicking Revert and a bunch of other things doesn't work, either. And I can't just delete some of the apps, because I or my wife use them on our phones!

  • IMac Hard Drive expectations, Are mine too high?

    Hey everyone.
I have a 27" iMac i5. Its around 22 months old now and its being used as a personal PC at home.
Lately, I have been experiencing HDD related issues, It hangs, load times are poor, OS takes ages to boot (windows and OSX)
I backed up all my data to external drives and did a clean OS restore to Lion. No help, first boot with the OS was just as bad as a boot full of clutter. Loading Windows on the win partition also sometimes gives me the "cannot find OS boot disk" error which is scary.
Anyway's doing research its all sure tell-tale signs of a failing HDD and ironically last night on my Win7 partition, I got the windows error message saying my "windows detected a hard disk problem, back up all data and contact your manufacture".
Now, back on topic. Is this reasonable? a $2000+ computer suffering from a hardware fault like this when the HDD has never had more than 30% of the 1TB used in its life? (everything I keep backed up on externals.)
I was honestly expecting a few more years out of this, **** even my 5 year old Macbook has never had an issue in its life and its been bagged around more places I can think of in its lifetime. How does a computer that sits on a desk suffer for a hardware failure such as this?
From day one, I had a faulty power board inside, it caused a loud electronic buzzing noise. I did not get this fixed for aroun 9 months as tbh, it sounded normal but in the last month leading upto the replacement, it got much louder over a few days. This was replaced by Apple and I was sent on my way happy it was fixed. could this have caused something to overload?
I am a little bit bitter which I am sure you can understand, but was my expectation of this hard drive just too high? or am I in my right to be a little upset by this?
And before anyone askes, I was OS when my warranty ran out, my Macbook, iPad 3XiPhones and Mac Mini are all covered by their own Apple Care. the only thing that isnt is the iMac.. just my luck!
Edit: the old link for the power board.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2737002

    Thanks guys.
Just got off the phone to Applecare.
they confirmed my drive is faulty. Im just a little upset it died like this. I have never had a drive fail before. Id rather my externals go than the internal.
Spoke to Apple, they said that he spoke to his Tech Specalist and they would not offer a free replacement. I agree is its 10 months out of warranty, but even the Apple rep I was speaking too said he would not be impressed either if it was his personal computer
Oh well. Time to look at HDD Upgrade options! Not that I am totally impressed about it.

  • Firmware version is too high. How uninstall? Correct version where?

Help! That Firmware thing is driving me nuts. Wish apple would organize the latest upgrades by OS. It’s a maze.
My iMac DV (blue front slot loading) is OS 9.0.4 (I will upgrade but not right now, too long to explain).
I had bought a LaCie HD some years ago & made partition with OS 9.0.4, 9.1 to 9.2, it fell, bought another and installed it.
After much time I found out that to know my version of Firmware I have to look for boot ROM, my system profiler says it’s $0004.19f1 that means probably v 4.19.
If it’s v 4.1.9 it is too high it needs OS 9.1 and probably happened with I had OS 9.1 on my external HD. My LaCie CD Writer became a nightmare and I don’t dare to use it anymore, maybe it was because of the firmware ….or it might be that Apple CD/DVD Driver can’t exist at the same time as Toast extensions, it’s unclear to me.
Can’t find the latest firmware version for OS 9.0.4 that will work, or how I can take it off before I install another one. I know v2.4 will work on OS 9.0.4.
    Got: Firewire v2.3.3 - usb v 1.4.2 - CarbonLib v 1.6 - Apple CD/DVD Driver v 1.3.5 player is v2.1
    Help!
    1. What’s the latest Firmware for OS 9.0.4?
    2. Do I have Firmware v 4.1.9?
    3. How do I uninstall Firmware v 4.1.9?
    4. CAN Apple CD/DVD Driver exist at the same time as Toast extensions?
    Thanks very much
    Nicky

I think that you misunderstood Kappy's point about Mac OS X version.
What the information about OS X version is telling you is that those are the minimum requirements for the installer which places the firmware update permanently in the ROM on the logic board to run. However, once the firmware has been installed you are free to continue to update your version of Mac OS X for as long as Apple releases them.
I have an iMac G3 DV+ which has ROM version 4.1.9f1 and is running Mac OS X 10.4.8.
However, the firmware is backwards compatible as well. You obviously installed the firmware when you were running OS 9.1, but at some time regressed your OS to 9.0.4.
I think the issues that you are experiencing are related to other issues on your Mac. The folks in the iMac G3 forum should be able to help you sort that out.

  • Disk Transfer (reads and writes) Latency is Too High

*the server has GOOD hardware components(16-32 Gb RAM;Xeon or quadcore........)
i keep having these notifications everyday; i searched on the internet and i found the cause to be 1 of the 2:
    1) disk hardware issue( non common=rarely )
    2) the queue time on the hard-disk( time to write on the Hard-disk)
if anyone can assist me with the following:
    1) is this a serious issue that will affect our enviroment?
    2) is it good to edit the time of monitoring to be 10minute(instead of the default 5min)
    3) is there any solution for this?(to prevent these annoying -useless??--- notifications)
4)what is the cause of this queue delay;;and FYI sometime this happens when nothing and noone is using the server (i.e the server is almost Idle)
    Regards

The problem is....  exactly what the knowledge of the alert says is wrong.  It is very simple.  Your disk latency is too high at times.
This is likely due to overloading the capabilities of the disk, and during peak times, the disk is underperforming.  Or - it could be that occasionally, due to the design of your disks - you get a very large spike in disk latency... and this trips the
"average" counter.  You could change this monitor to be a consecutive sample threshold monitor, and that would likely quiet it down.... but only doing an analysis of a perfmon of several disks over 24 hours would you be able to determine specifically
    whats going on.
SCOM did exactly what it is supposed to do.... it alerted your, proactively, to the possible existence of an issue.  Now you, using the knowledge already in the alert, use that information to further investigate, and determine what is the corrective
    action to take.
    Summary
The Avg. Disk sec/Transfer (LogicalDisk\Avg. Disk sec/Transfer) for the logical disk has exceeded the threshold. The logical disk and possibly even overall system performance may significantly diminish which will result in poor operating system and application
    performance.
The Avg. Disk sec/ Transfer counter measures the average rate of disk Transfer requests (I/O request packets (IRPs)) that are executed per second on a specific logical disk. This is one measure of storage subsystem throughput.
    Causes
A high Avg. Disk sec/Transfer performance counter value may occur due to a burst of disk transfer requests by either an operating system or application.
    Resolutions
To increase the available storage subsystem throughput for this logical disk, do one or more of the following:
    •
Upgrade the controllers or disk drives.
    •
    Switch from RAID-5 to RAID-0+1.
    •
Increase the number of actual spindles.
Be sure to set this threshold value appropriately for your specific storage hardware. The threshold value will vary according to the disk’s underlying storage subsystem. For example, the “disk” might be
a single spindle or a large disk array. You can use MOM overrides to define exception thresholds, which can be applied to specific computers or entire computer groups.
    Additional Information
The Avg. Disk sec/Transfer counter is useful in gathering throughput data. If the average time is long enough, you can analyze a histogram of the array’s response to specific loads (queues, request sizes, and so on). If possible, you should
    observe workloads separately.
You can use throughput metrics to determine:
    •
The behavior of a workload running on a given host system. You can track the workload requirements for disk transfer requests over time. Characterization of workloads is an important part of performance analysis and capacity planning.
    •
The peak and sustainable levels of performance that are provided by a given storage subsystem. A workload can either be used to artificially or naturally push a storage subsystem (in this case, a given logical disk) to its limits. Determining these
limits provides useful configuration information for system designers and administrators.
However, without thorough knowledge of the underlying storage subsystem of the logical disk (for example, knowing whether it is a single spindle or a massive disk array), it can be difficult to provide an optimized one size fits all threshold value.
You must also consider the Avg. Disk sec/Transfer counter in conjunction with other transfer request characteristics (for example, request size and randomness/sequentially) and the equivalent counters for write disk requests.
If the Avg. Disk sec/Transfers counter is tracked over time and if it increases with the intensity of the workloads that are driving the transfer requests, it is reasonable to suspect that the logical disk is saturated if throughput does not increase and
the user experiences degraded system throughput.

  • Not happy with Adobe PE7 upgrade cost

To make a long story short I have been using PE3 until late this year due to finance issue (out of work for over a year). Finally on July 28 I upgraded so that I can use PE on my Vista computer - and although my computer is no great speed deamon (3GHz Core2 with 8GB) the reliability of PE4 has not been what I would call "quality programming". Now comes along PE7 that is supposed to finally fix things - oh yeah that will be another $120 to upgrade...

Whether the upgrade is "bug fixes" or new features is a matter of interpretation.
Most users haven't had a problem with any version. Improvements have been made each generation -- but each new version has included lots of new enhancements. Calling these enhancements and new features bug fixes is really unfair to all of us who've been using the program for nearly 5 years with no major problems.
Still, your mileage may vary. And only you can decide if these new features and enhancements are worth the upgrade cost.
Remember, next year there will be a new generation of the product, and it too will be improved in a number of ways. And then, again, you'll need to decide if it's these improvements are worth the investment.

  • Reader 11 pdf page numbers printing too high

After I upgraded to Adobe Reader 11, I have started having issues with page numbers on my pdf forms printing too high on the page. Instead of printing at the bottom of the page, they jump up to wherever the text on the page stops. For instance, if the text stops half way down the page, the page number prints one line beneath that text, so it's in the middle of the page instead of the bottom corner. The file looks fine on the screen, and if I print it in Reader 10 on another computer, it prints at the bottom of the page where it belongs. I've compared settings between my computer, and the computer where the file prints correctly, and I can't find any settings that are different. Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, suggestions for a solution?

looking again, it prints badly in Chrome, Safari, pdf, preview but NOT Firefox.
And, I was wrong about Gmail. it prints wrong from gmail, too.

  • AppleTV distorts sound, output level too high

    Hi
I have a problem and have already tried a number of solutions.
My AppleTV sound is distorted, due to the output level being too high. Initially I used the TVs headset jack-connector for connecting to my amp, and lowering the output level from the TV didn't work. It is distorted from the source (AppleTV)
Now I have bought a seperate D/A converter for connecting the AppleTVs optical output directly to my analog amplifier. Still doesn't work. Sound still distorted.
When playing music through AppleTV, I have the ability to adjust the volume level on the source device. And then everything is OK.
But airplaying video/youtube from my ipad (I do that a lot - playing kiddie-flics for my toddler) there is no option to reduce the sound level.
Effectively most content airplayed will be distorted - and I am sick of it. I have a high-end amp and speakers. I do not expect audiophile quality from the AppleTV. Still I didn't expect defective/destroyed sound... And no, the AMP isn't the issue, as this has been replaced as well, due to an upgrade. Same issue on both AMPs.
Any good suggestions? Or should I simply accept that the design criterias for the AppleTV doesn't involve a reasonable audio quality? Or is my particular product defective?
    Thanks,
    Claus

  • "db file scattered read" too high and Query going for full table scan-Why ?

    Hi,
I had a big table of around 200mb and had a index on it.
In my query I am using the where clause which has to use the
index. I am neither using any not null condition
nor using any function on the index fields.
Still my query is not using the index.
It is going for full table scan.
Also the statspack report is showing the
"db file scattered read" too high.
Can any body help and suggest me why this is happenning.
Also tell me the possible solution for it.
    Thanks
    Arun Tayal

"db file scattered read" are physical reads/multi block reads. This wait occurs when the session reading data blocks from disk and writing into the memory.
Take the execution plan of the query and see what is wrong and why the index is not being used.
However, FTS are not always bad. By the way, what is your db_block_size and db_file_multiblock_read_count values?
If those values are set to high, Optimizer always favour FTS thinking that reading multiblock is always faster than single reads (index scans).
Dont see oracle not using index, just find out why oracle is not using index. Use the INDEX hint to force optimizer to use index. Take the execution with/witout index and compare the cardinality, cost and of course, logical reads.

  • When trying to project video from their Win 7 laptop, the CTS1300 TP unit states that the resolution is too high

    Hi,
Have a customer who advises as per the discussion title :-
When trying to project video from their Win 7 laptop, the CTS1300 TP unit states that the resolution is too high
It has worked fine up until the upgrade to Windows 7
Customer advises colleagues can connect and project OK at another site, using Win7 laptop, however that site uses CTS3010 and CTS1000 and, as yet, it is unconfirmed which they used to test on
I could raise a case with TAC but wondered if anyone knows of any issue with Windows 7 and the CTS1300
    Many Thanks
    Nigel

I've had issues with Win7 laptops before, but it all depends on the model of the laptop, and what it's display is capable of, and whether the end user is using it in desktop extension / duplication / remote only mode, etc.
In most cases, switching it to the 2nd screen only mode fixes the issue, and worst case, rebooting it while it's set this way, and it's connected, fixes the problem.
So, from my expereince, it's pretty well always a problem wtth the laptop/user, and very rarely (if ever) a problem with the TelePresence device.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-1130us IDT HD sound card problem: recording levels too high

I have been trying to get the IDT HD sound card in my HP Pavilion dv7-1130us laptop to allow me to switch from "microphone" to "Line In" input signal. I cannot find an option anywhere in the laptop do this. There is not a separate Line-In jack on the laptop. The mike jack is it.
The reason I'm trying to change the input setting is that I am using Audacity/Lame (the Win 7-compatible Beta version) to convert old cassettes to MP3. My laptop came with Vista but I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) earlier this year.
The problem is that recording levels are way too high using the mike input and so the recording comes out harsh and distorted. I have tried all possible recording level adjustments on the tape deck (no option), IDT sound card control panel, Windows device manager, etc.
From what I am reading on the online Audacity forums, using a mike input will cause the recording levels to be too high, and the setting has to be changed to "Line In" and not "microphone." Is there not a way to do that with this laptop and sound card?
The HP Support Assistant tells me that the driver for my sound card is up-to-date.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. I've been trying to find a solution on my own for a couple days with no luck.

    Hi Amanda,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52501-53000/sp52658.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.
