  • DPM 2012 R2 Online Protection - Online Recovery Point Creation Failed

    Hi
We are moving from protecting our DPM server with another server to use an Azure Data Vault.  2 of the Protection Groups work fine, but the third - protecting a pair of Folders - fails.  On the DPM MMC it shows Online recovery point creation
failed, and in the Event Log it shows -
Creation of online recovery points for D:\ on blah.blah.co.uk have failed. The last online recovery point creation failed for the following reason: (ID: 3188)
The operation attempted cannot be performed at this time because a backup or restore operation is currently running. (ID: 100049)
The DPM server is the only one conducting any backups.  The target server is Win 2003 (for the moment).
Could anyone give me any pointers?
    Thanks

    Ok, nobody any more ideas?
The latest test involved 9.75GB on the protected server. I created the protection group and this was the outcome:
Replica volume: 15.98 GB allocated, 0 KB used | Recovery point volume: 3.70 GB allocated, 0 KB used
I then create a recovery point and then deleted all 9.75GB on the protected server. And did a full restore from DPM. It then gave following outcome:
Replica volume: 15.98 GB allocated, 9.85 GB used | Recovery point volume: 3.70 GB allocated, 654.86 MB used
Then after the creation of the first recovery point (sync + recovery point), I get this:
Replica volume: 15.98 GB allocated, 4.79 GB used | Recovery point volume: 13.70 GB allocated, 3.27 GB used
As you can see DPM took the 9.75GB and added it to the recovery volume. And strangly it took away half of the replica volume.
In addition I get 3 entried in my logs:
    1) The used disk space on the computer running DPM for the recovery point volume of  E:\ has exceeded the threshold value of 90% (DPM accounts 600 MB for internal usage in addition to free space available). If you do not allocate more disk space,
synchronization jobs may fail due to insufficient disk space. (ID: 3169)
    2) Synchronization jobs for E:\ on ****** have failed. (ID: 3115)DPM has run out of free space on the recovery point volume and will fail synchronization for E:\ on ***** in order to prevent existing recovery points from being
    deleted. (ID: 30195)
    3) Creation of recovery points for E:\ on ****** have failed. The last recovery point creation failed for the following reason: (ID: 3114)DPM does not have sufficient storage space available on the recovery point volume to create
    new recovery points. (ID: 214)
I hope someone can help me with this.
    regards,
    Maurice

  • Urgent OSX data recovery question

    Hello,
I am in urgent need of assistance with recovering some data. Long story short I have a XServe that had two 40gb ADMs in it. I successfully backed up each disk to DMG files, then upgraded the ADMs to contain 500gb modules. I then blew out the megaraid config and set the new drives up as mirrors. I am finding now however that one of the DMGs that wasn't supposed to contain anything critical actually did, and when I try to open it I get an error that "no mountable file systems" are in it.
To top things off, earlier today the original drive was readable, but I wanted to try and boot back to it to see how the server was set up before. I popped it back into its ADM, and via the Install CD in Terminal I ran "megaraid -create auto" to try and make it boot to it again. The problem is that not only did that not work, but since then the drive cannot be read via any means.
Essentially, I have a drive that thinks it isnt even partitioned any more and a DMG file that won't open, and it is critical that I get some data from it. Does anyone know how I could possibly repair one of the two? The files I need are under the Library folder in a very specific location.

You'll get a cogent answer posting to the OS X Server forum at http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=96

  • Urgent: Protect in Trasport Request

    HI,
Wat is the purpose of <b>Protect</b> functionality for <b>transport requests</b>. In transaction SE10 if we select a modifiable request and right click on it <b>Protect</b> option is available. If we select that option a lock symbol is appearing for the request

  • Urgent problem with Recovery Manager's File backup operation: No storage device detected

I have a Pavilion g7-1070us laptop that failed to start and simply displays a blue-screen with a blinking cursor (no error message).
I could NOT get into safe-mode by hitting F8, but was able to activate the “HP recovery manager” by hitting F11.
I was trying to back-up my files before triggering the system restore. It asked me what types of files to back-up, then scanned the computer for these files and was finalizing the files for back-up; then suddenly an error message showed up saying something like "No storage device detected. Make sure the removable disc drive is connected to computer". But I have both a blank DVD sitting in the optical drive and a USB drive attached!!!!!!
I was expecting the system to ask me where to save these backed-up files but no such question was asked and this nonsense error message appeared out of nowhere. Apparently the recovery manager couldn't see my DVD or USB drive?
Can someone throw me a life-saver here? If I cannot recover my files, I cannot proceed with the system restore and I am forever stuck here!!!!!!
    Please help!!!! Much appreciated!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The blinking cursor means the system is attempting to load Windows, but is unable to read the boot files. There are a number of causes including hardware issues. Run the tests as before to ensure the hardware is functional. I would have to run through the software repair steps only to find it is a hardware issue. Hard drives is perhaps the most common component to have issues regardless of the manufacturer.
I suspect the hard drive will pass the test and will go ahead and link to DavidPK's posts in this thread as they have the best chance to resolve the issue without losing and restoring everything. I do recommend this step at this point since two recoveries did not resolve the issue. DavidPK's solution comes in two parts, so be sure to follow both starting with the first post and moving to the second post should the first one not do the trick.
Let me know how this goes.

  • Urgent - Rescue and Recovery application affects CHKDSK function

I hope this is the correct Forum/spot to post this:
I have an IBM ThinkPad T23 with MS XP and SP2, with 640,MB of RAM.
Previously, when I had ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery application  loaded, I soon discovered it effected CHKDSK function, and would produce the following message during power up or Restart whenever I set CHKDSK to run:
     Quote:
    Checking File System on C:
The Type of File System is NTFS
Cannot open Volume for Direct Access
Windows has finished checking the disk...
     End of Quote.
when in reality, no check disk has been performed by Windows.
Consequently, to avoid serious system problems, I had to uninstall ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery application.  Immediately, CHKDSK function worked perfectly, which helped to prevent system errors and crashes previously occurring.
Hoping that by now, the bugs/problems with this application would have been fixed, I've reinstalled the application (V4.0) and upon testing, found I've immediately again lost the CHKDSK function.
To avoid problems, I'm going to have to again uninstall ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery application unless there is a patch/fix for this problem that I'm not aware of...if such a fix/patch exists, can someone direct me to it?
Thanks in advance for any guidance/assistance on this anomoly!

Based on Nick’s recommendation I used the Hitachi Data Fitness Test 4.13 to erase all of the file on the hard drive.  The details of the installation are below:
    1.    Download the Hitachi Data Fitness Test 4.13 from http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm (file dft32_v413_b00.iso) to another computer and created a bootable DVD using cdburn d: dft32_v413_b00.iso from the directory I downloaded it to.
    2.    I started the T61 and put the Hitachi Data Fitness Test DVD in the DVD drive and turned off the T61 and restarted the T61.  Note, the boot priority in the BIOS was set to ATAPI CD0:MATSHIAVDV-RAM.
    3.    I ran both the Hitachi Data Fitness Test Quick Test and the Advanced Test.  The drive past both.  The I ran the Erase Disk.  These took several hours to complete.
    4.    After theErase Disk was complete, I rejected the Hitachi Data Fitness Test DVD and loaded the Rescue and Recovery CD from Lenovo () and restarted the system.
    5.    ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery loaded and I selected “Restore” and then “Restore my hard drive to the orginal factory state”  [Next]  then “I do not want to save any files.”  [Next], [Next], and following the loading of the Rescue and Recovery Supplement CD, and six Product Recovery CD for ThinkPad T61, R61 Type 6480, 7659, 7658, 7660, 7661, 6378, 6379, 6481, 7663, 7662, 7664, 7665, 6337, 1959) and finally Rescue and Recovery Supplement CD again.
Note there was a several minute wait after inserting the Rescue and Recovery Supplement CD for the second time and a system restart, for the Product Recovery to begin processing files.
    6.    During the Window creation, I cancelled the use Login for the Administrator’s password.
    I back up and running!
    Thanks,

  • Need to Password Protect Rescue & Recovery 4.5 on my X220

I have purchased a X220 and have installed Rescue & Recovery 4.5. My OS is Windows 7 64bit. I am wanting to set a password on Rescue & Recovery so that when any user tries to open the software, from within Windows, they have to enter a password. Is this possible?

    That's not a feature of R&R.
But windows has a feature where you can restrict access to any application that you specify:  http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/80605-applications-prevent-running-specified-programs.html
The way this would work, is that you log into the computer as "admin" then you can run any application that you want.  Your other users log into the computer as "user" and then they are only allowed the run the applications that you specify.

  • (Urgent!) Session recovery in tomcat

    Good morning,
I'm a java developer working on a system that sells insurance online. We recently been lumbered with implementing the (UK's) new 3Dsecure credit card authorisation system, which basically introduces an additional security phase in processing credit cards transactions.
We currently process credit cards via an XML exchange with a payment server, the current process does not redirect the customer away from our site, and we've never had any trouble with this. NOW we MUST redirect the customer to their bank's website for authorisation, and then the bank sends the customer back after checking. However, when the user is sent back to us, they have 'lost' their session in our application, which ruins their chances of then completing the purchase process.
The session is still in tomcats memory (as far as we can tell), but the user has a new sessionID, and we cannot for the life of us revert them to their old session. We've tried including ;jsessionid=XYZ in the URLs, where XYZ is the old sessionid, we've scoured the HttpServletRequest API for a 'getSession(String id)' method, we've even tried copying the session to the Application scope and then trying to pull it back down upon customers return; but we just cannot get this.
The 3Dsecure deadline is looming, and the only problem we have is with these session persistances Does anyone have any help/advise for us? I'm more than willing to answer additional questions! Cheers.

    Maybe here.

  • Disk Utility ate my Recovery HD

If you want to keep your Recovery HD intact, use Disk Utility only from the internal drive (Macintosh HD or Recovery HD itself).
Disk Utility running on an external start-up disk will delete Recovery HD without warning if you partition, erase or restore a volume on the internal drive.
I bought my Core i7 iMac two days after the public release of Lion, so I cannot get a Snow Leopard install DVD for the machine (I asked), and it doesn't have the Lion Internet Recovery feature that new models will be getting (Cmd-R doesn't work on the erased disk, I've tried). Off-the shelf Snow Leopard install DVDs cannot start-up this machine (I've tried).
I've done a complete reinstall (including the Recovery HD 'partition') using a Recovery HD I created by restoring the doubly-hidden BaseSystem.dmg to another external drive. I know that Apple have gone to some lengths to protect the Recovery HD from idiots, but it is a bit concerning that what may be the ONLY way of starting-up current models bought since the release of Lion is dependent on software hidden on the internal HD - most users won't even know if it's gone missing.

NVM, in a attempt to duplicate, installed lion to the external drive, made a screen recording of disk utility and reran it, and this time, it performed as expected.

  • Troubles for ordering a recovery media online

    Dear moderator
I didnt succeed in ordering a recovery media online because of the step 2. In such step is requested by the system to fill the blank field with the last 4 characters. In fact, that's a little strange, because my Toshiba Lap Top's Model Part-Number is composed of 12 characters and the first nine characters are pre-filled automatically by the system after the step 1 have finished. So, it's missing 3 CHARACTERS, not 4. After that, It appears the following message: "Part number does not match serial number. Please verify it’s correct, and try again. Hint: Use zero instead of letter "O", and digit "1" (one) instead of letter "L"".
I followed the hint and nothing changed. I tried every combinations of characters it's possible to imagine and didnt work.
I urgently need a Recovery Media because my hard drive recovery partition has been deleted (I don't know how) and I have to recover hard drive and system.
    Thanks for your atention.

  • Vista DVD and Recovery CD's

My father (aged in his 70's) has just purchased a Lenovo 3000 series desktop.  It seems a good machine but it was supplied with no Vista DVD.  I tried to create a Recovery disc for him, but when you follow the customer care help it tells you to go to a particular menu screen and select the Create Rescue & Recovery Disc option, however this menu option is not there and there is nothing that sounds like it will do this task in any of the sub-menu's.  So, the first questions is how do we create a recovery disc for the computer?
Secondly, I'm concerned about the absence of a Vista DVD.  What if, for example, his hard drive dies after the computer is out of warranty and he has to buy a new one?  How does he install his licensed copy of Vista on the replacement hard drive if he doesn't have the DVD?  I don't understand how you can purchase a license and not receive a copy of the software that goes with it.

There is no LenovoCare menu but there is a LenovoCare Tools option in the Welcome Centre.  Under that menu there is no option for "Create Recovery Media".  Under LenovoCare Tools there is a Data Protection and Recovery option, and under that there is a Rescue and Recovery option.  However even within the Rescue and Recovery option I can't find any option to create recovery media.  It has 3 sub-menus:  "Back up your system", "Restore your system", and "Manage settings".  None of these has any sub option to create recovery media.
I have all the screenshots but I cannot figure out how to display them here.
My other concern is that the PC was supplied without a Windows Vista disk.  I cannot see how to create a Windows Vista CD/DVD from the system, so my dad has a licensed copy of loaded but no actual copy of the installation disk.  How do we do this?  If the hard drive fails after the warranty period, how would my dad install Vista on his new HDD?

  • VZ Protect Recover options no longer free?

Am I the only one that noticed the change in today's (August 20, 2014) update to VZ Protect will require a "Total Protection" place to keep the recovery features working? Apparently there's a grace period, and an open enrollment period for the next month or so, but after that you'll have to pay $10/month for this protection plan.
I don't want the total protection insurance. I just want the virus protection and recovery features.
Do I have to move to an alternative (e.g., AVG)?

Well, AVG has had a good reputation as a company for many years.
I do wish it were more obvious what the different features did, and which ones you have to pay for. That's true of a lot of other stuff, too. I have cleaners that come with anti-virus, antivirus that come with cleaners, and so on.

  • Software for 10.4 on G5

Hi all. I'm thinking of buying an iMac G5 that has 10.4 (Tiger) on it, and have a few questions. The guy wants 750 for it.
I think the model is the one with the Ambient Light Sensor (the owner is not sure what he has). I know that particular model had a problem with overheating due to cheap capacitors. Has anyone else had this problem, and how would I check on it ? Can I open it up and how would I do that?
Also... I need to know if I can run Diskwarrior, Macwasher, and Diskwarrior's File Optimizer (for defraging) on 10.4.
Hope I haven't overwhelmed you with all these questions.
    Thanks,
    Philip Shill

By way of example, Philip, one simple way of "defragmenting" your internal drive is to simply "clone" (ie make an exact copy of your drive) on an external hard drive, wipe your internal drive, and then "clone" back from the external to the internal. This will result in the contents of the drive being copied in one contiguous block, with the files and free space defragmented, without the need to use a defragmentation/ optmisation utility.
The fact that OSX has its own defragmentation routines for smaller files also helps in the process. While fragmentation can still occur it is less of an issue now than it was under OS9.
Furthermore, if you suffer a major problem on your internal hard drive then having a bootable backup on a firewire drive saves an awful lot of worry . Even if the internal drive fails completely then you will not have lost your data (or, at least, only a very small amount of it - it is very easy to schedule something like "SuperDuper" to back up your machine automatically every night, for example.)
Things like the "journalling" system under recent versions of MacOSX make directory problems generally less of an issue than they were underOS9, too (*although they can still happen, of course).
As I said, now that external firewire hard drives of sufficient size can be had for less than the price of a utility like DiskWarrior or TechTools and the like the priorities have changed. For years I used to recommend that the first thing people bought after they purchased their Mac was a utility like DiskWarrior in case of emergencies. These days an external hard drive is cheap enough to be used for emergency recovery instead, and can be used for other things too.
OSX is generally much more robust than OS 9. Programs are less likely to crash when you are using it, and, when they do, it is less likely to crash the entire computer in the process, because it uses "protected memory" for each application. Generally you can simply "force quit" the problem program and go on to save any work in other programs that you have open, rather than the whole lot going down in one great catastrophe.
So, the priorities have changed. We used to urgently need good recovery and maintenance utilities, because crashes were more frequent, fragmentation was more of a problem, and most of us couldn't afford large "backup" drives. Today most of us can get by with a good external backup and simply use Apple's own "Disk Utility" (which is significantly more powerful than the old "Disk First Aid" that came with OS9 ) for basic maintenance tasks.
    Hope that makes sense.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Storage problem - unused storage disappeared

    Hi,
I have a problem with the storage of my hard drive.
The Notebook is a Lenovo 3000 N200 (0769-B3G) and my OS is Windows Vista Home Premium.
I'm having the original hard drive of this notebook with around 112 GB. This hard drive is split in 2 partitions. The first is 6,42 GB and contains the Lenovo recovery data and the second is 105,37 GB.
Now my Notebook informs me, that my hard drive storage is almost full (unused: 34,6 MB). I sum up the used storage of all folders. In addition to that I've installed an application named "TreeSize" to check the used storage. My calculation and the result of the program is around 55 GB. That means that 50 GB are unused. I don't understand that and I would like to ask, what is the problem and where could I get my unused storage?!
Maybe someone knows this problem and could help me :/
    kind regards,
    krixxie
PS: I am administrator of this Notebook.

    found it!!!!!!
right pal think i have found it how to stop your backups
D/B (double click) on the orange lenovo care on your desk top
you will get a menu come up
click on data protection and recovery
    then a side menu appears
    click on 'back up data'
    then a box appears
    D/B click on 'preferences' button
and the box will open up another box which is seperated into
    four sections
un tab(no tick in box)  'schedule your back ups'
    then click apply and ok.
    no more scheduled back ups.
but if this is the case, you will need to check which of the backups you need to keep.
i kept the very first one on the list.
check first how many backups your system has done, then you can work out
    the Gb useage.
i hope i am correct in stating the above.
