USB Hub connector sparks while charger is plugged

Hi everybody!
I have the latest Macbook Pro Retina 15" and my problem happens when I am going to connect the USB Hub http://www.satechi.net/index.php/satechi-7-port-usb-3-0-premium-aluminum-hub-whi te-trim-for-imac-macbook-air-macbook-pro-macbook-and-mac-mini to the macbook, if the mac charger is plugged the conector does a few sparks when it touches the aluminium of the macbook, and there is no problem if the charger is not plugged...
All works fine but I'm scared for some damage done to the macbook in a future It is maybe a earth related issue with the hub?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for the response!
Finally I've detected that the problem is not the hub or the charger but the sound monitors...
I have an Avid Mbox 3 sound card plugged. No problem with that, but when I plug the two speakers (Yamaha HS5 monitors) in the sound card the sparky thing starts... Only when the USB connector touches the USB in the Macbook Pro...
I'm thinking that the problem could be the monitors or the sound card... Don't know what to do

  • Purchased "high power" USB hub, still doesn't charge.

I found a 4-port USB hub with two "high power" ports (Targus ACH80US), but my iPad still won't charge when attached (yes, to the high power port, yes it's plugged into the wall too).
Anyone have any ideas? I'm using an older G5 iMac, but it's going through the new "high power" USB hub.

    Copied from this link.

The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. *When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode.* Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Does your iPad not charge when the iPad is in sleep mode?

  • USB Hub will no longer charge my iphone since update to 4.2.1

    Hi,
I have recently updated my iphone 4 to 4.2.1 and ever since then I can no longer charge it using a USB hub which has been working fine for about 6 months... the hud still works with all other gadgets I have plugged into it, I have also tried moving the cable into other ports with no luck.

apple recommends that you do not use a usb hub with ios devices they always have sorry

  • Is there a USB hub that works as well as plugging directly into Mac?

Some items don't seem to work as well when they are plugged into my "entrega machub 4U" as when they are plugged directly into my Mac Pro (i.e. my Logitech Web cam). Given the low number of USB ports on my Mac, I need a hub that can handle my accessories. Can anyone recommend a brand that works as well as plugging directly into the Mac?
    Thanks for any help.

I'm with the hatter, pci-e is the best way to go.

  • Connecting USB/Midi to iPad while charging adapter?

    HI.
I Want to use my iPad as MIDI OUT sender from a app that uses this. But I know that running that app for several hours will use the battery really fast.
So I want a small adapter similar to the lightning-to-VGA just instead with a USB or a MIDI.
Is there somebody which knows where to find this if that exist?
    Cheers
    Rasmus

    Hi Folks,
I have tried most of what have been said here ( thank you for the great Job) but unforunatally it didn't solve the issue.
However, now the "Not Charging" message in the right corner disappeared and my iPad is charging normally from my laptop.
The reason behind that is using the USB3.0 port in my Dell inspiron N5110. Earlier, I was using the USB 2.0  ports and that is why it was showing that message but as sooon as I pluged it in the eSATA USB 3.0 port , the message disapeared and the iPad started charging normally.
So don't waste ur time here and there try to plug it to USB 3.0 port and it will works, Insha ALLAH.
    Cheers

  • How can I make my USB Hub Wireless using TimeCapsul

I have TimeCapsul and I use a 7-port Dynex USB hub. It has an external AC powersupply so it does not need to draw power from what it is plugged into. I would like to take advantage of what apple advertises that TimeCapsul can do, making my USB Hub wireless. However when I plug the hub into the TimeCapsul, the things i have plugged into the hub aren't available. Am i doing something wrong?

The USB port on the TC is used for a disk drive or printer.  It doesn't make any other devices accessible.  For disk drive or printer you must configure the TC using Airport Utility to share the device, and you need to turn on Printer Sharing and/or File Sharing via the Sharing preferences.  Read the manual that came with the TC for configurations.

  • Will an Apple Iphone 3g charge from a Powered USB Hub while the computer is

    Hello,
Will an Apple Iphone 3g charge from a Powered USB Hub while the computer is sleeping?
I have a Motorola SLVR L7, two BCK-08 Bluetooth Stereo Headsets and two iPower Secondary iPhone batteries that all charge from my Powered USB Hub while my main computer is sleeping.
It would seem that my iPhone 3g will not charge from a Powered USB Hub while the computer attached to it is sleeping?
Is there any way to get an Iphone 3g to charge from a PoWeReD UsB HuB while the computer it is attached to is sleeping?
I'm thinking in terms of greening things ... but this is making me leave a 170 Watt computer running while I sleep ... I don't use the computer much while asleep ...
    Thanks for your time,

    How 'linux' is OS X?
In linux you can get a lot of USB information by typing "+lsusb -v+"
    or through "/proc/bus/usb/devices"
(but they would both list everything connected via USB)
if you knew the vendor and device id you could type as an example
    +(laptop:/proc/bus/usb) # lsusb -v -d 050d:805c+

In windows under details it lists the parent ID (port above) so if you found the USB port the iPhone was connected to ... you could find the hardware and vendor id or name of the hub it was plugged in to ...
I'm thinking it might be easier and more positive to start a thread requesting that anyone who has an iPhone that will charge from their computer through a USB Hub while that computer is sleeping ... but I don't know if I can start a thread with a title that long ...

  • Has anyone ever experienced the situation where plugging in the USB connector to the charging source (high-power USB port or Apple charger) halfway, then pressing it in firmly, results in the iPad not charging?

It's highly likely that there is a poor connection in the phone - either a pin in the dock connector or internal wiring harness.  No software fixes or "tricks" would work, but I would recommend restoring in iTunes, first using a backup and if needed restore as a new phone.
Otherwise, opening and repairing the phone takes some tech knowledge that can't be relayed here.  Apple doesn't repair phones other than replacing batteries (not inconceivable that you have a bad battery), but offers "out-of-warranty" replacement (refurb) phones for $149 (US).  3rd party iPhone repair centers may be able to fix it for less.  Google to find them,
    Tried soft and hard resets
FYI, there's no such thing as "soft" or "hard" resets in iPhone terminology.  There is only one phone reset. You'll see those terms thrown around by technically ignorant posters, but they mean different things to different people and are actually archaic, 1980s PC terms that have nothing to do with iPhones.
See the User Guide, Appendix B.

  • Usb hub power supply destroyed while charging ipad3

We purchased an ipad 3 yesterday. At some point I connected it to my one year-old desktop pc to interact with iTunes. The ipad was at about a 60 % charge when I plugged it into a 2.0 usb hub with it's own 5 volt power supply. The hub was plugged into a 2.0 usb port on the pc. The plug-in power supply is UL approved and rated at .5 amps. Within a few minutes the plug-in power supply blew with a bang and a burning smell. The plastic housing contained the destruction, but was very hot to the touch just after. The usb hub was not damaged and thankfully neither was the 2.0 port on the pc. I have since read that the ipad 3 needs more power than most usb ports can supply to charge properly, but have not found any reports where the power supply on an external hub was destroyed. I thought I should report my experience. We will be using the supplied charger to charge the ipad. To use iTunes I will probably connect the ipad directly to the usb 3.0 port on the pc as I have read 3.0 ports supply more power.

The hub does not send power out until the computer tell it to.

  • Making calls while plugged to MacBook Pro or ACD or USB Hub

When I connect iPhone to MacBook Pro to sync and charge, it's not possible to make or receive calls. Even after unplugging, I can't make/receive calls and I have to either turn it off or soft reset. Is this normal?
I have an iPhone 3G dock. I have tried several ways to connect it: direct to MacBook Pro, to Apple Cinema Display-MBP, to Belkin USB Hub-ACD-MBP. I have even tried without the dock. Same problem every time.
    Any idea?

My problem is solved. It happens that the dock was placed between the Macbook Pro, Time Capsule and a speaker. After multiple tests, I realized that the iPhone mounted on the dock works perfectly well if dock is placed somewhere else away from these items. Right now, the dock is connected to a powered USB hub, then to Apple Cinema Display and then to MacBook Pro.
By the way, it also works well if the iPhone is connected using the usb cable only, without the dock, even if it's placed between these items. I personally think that Time Capsule causes some kind of interference with the dock.
Hope this helps to someone else.

  • While charging my ipad when i plugged in the adapter, the adapter and the usb port gets very very hot... Is this normal? I replaced my ipad and adapter but the problem still exist.

While i charge my ipad with adapter the adapter more specifically the internal round cell of adapter and the usb port becomes very very hot... And ultimately my ipad back starts heating a bit. Is that normal?

Take your charger, cable & iPad to an Apple Store for evaluation.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My IPad Retnia does not charge when plugged in using the USB from my computer to car adapter, how can I fix this to be able to have flexibility in charging?

When I plug me IPad into the USB connector to my laptop or into my car charger, it show as not charging. How can I fix this so that I can charge my Pad in these settings?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
Or - Recalibrate the battery. See link below.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

  • Why is my 4th generation ipod touch not charge? I plug it into the computer and the wall and with 2 different usb cables and its not charging. When its plugged in it shows the icon for charging but the battery never increases and it dies once i disconnect

I have a 4th generation Ipod Touch. It has been working for months when yesterday the battery started acting werid. I was driving and it was connected with the usb charger cable to my car stereo when all the sudden my music stopped and the stereo could not recognize my ipod at all. When I got back home, I tried to charge it so it wouldnt die but even while on the charger in the wall the battery continued to die. I charged it over night (the first time I have ever charged it over night) desperately to have battery for a 4 o clock plane flight so I would have entertianment. The ipod died over night while on the charger. When I unplugged it from the usb charging cable I noticed that the icon telling me the ipod needed to be charged came up. So I plugged it back in. The charging thunder bolt symbol popped up next to the very small red strip on the left side of the battery indicating that the ipod had no charge to turn its self on. I tried plugging it in on the computer, the wall ac charger and a stereo system made just for the ipod that also pluggs into the wall. I have used 2 different cables, the result being the same that the ipod held no charge, and it wouldnt charge at all while on the charger, and it would imediately die once i take it off the charger.
I have not idea what has happened ....
    Please help
    THanks!

    - While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.  If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod.

    - Try restoring the iPod, first from backup and then try to factory settings/new iPod to rule out a software problem.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and broken or cracked plastic.
    - Could you have damaged something when you took the iPod apart and replaced the Home button?

  • IPOD SHUFFLE PLUGGED INTO USB HUB BUT NOT BEING READ

I recently got a 4 port USB hub because I needed extra usb ports. I mainly use the hub to connect my flash drive, external hard drive and my IPOD shuffle, but the only thing that isn't getting read by the computer is the shuffle. Everything else that is conncected to the hub is being read by windows. The shuffle just sits there, when plugged into the hub, blinking a green light (which doesn't look normal). The hub itself is a 2.0 hub. HELP!

I had the same problem. FIRST, I had to remove the software that came with the original ipod shuffle. 2005/06/26, and replace it with the older version 2005/01/11 that I found on this site: http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/220012/apple-ipod-ipod-mini-ipod-photo-ipod-sh uffle-software-updater-2005-01-11-windows-2000-xp-free-download.html
Once in a while it still doesn't recognize the ipod, but I think that's a usb port problem. Unplug it and plug it in again and it should be fine. Just make sure you remove the original software first in the add/remove programs section!
Also, if Mac is so good (according to some people on this site), why did Mac start using the Windows XP software and not vice-versa!!! haha
    Good Luck!!!
