USB-pendrive probs [wiki]

I'm trying to get my pendrive working, but so far I have not succeeded yet. UHCI is compiled into the kernel and usb-storage is loaded as a module. I have also added usbdevfs to my /etc/fstab, which is now mounted in /proc/bus/usb. My pendrive is detected (according to /proc/bus/usb/devices. Stll, I am unable to access it. I don't know which device I should use for my /etc/fstab. In old style it's always been /dev/sda. Can someone help me out?
btw sorry for my bad English.

a pendrive is something like an USB-stick, I assume? So you should try
hotplug -> pacman -S hotplug . Make sure you have "unofficial"
uncommented in /etc/pacman.conf. hotplug is a deamon which should be
started in the /etc/rc.conf. Alternatively, you can activate it for testing,
(after install - no reboot or other neccessary), by "/etc/rc.d/hotplug start".
Then a new device should appear in  /dev/discs/discX/part1. This can be
mounted. Most sticks are pre-formatted using fat32 so mount them with
"-t vfat" option or reformat it.

  • Can't unmount usb pendrive automatically

    Hi everybody..
I had some problems with filenames on usb pendrives or cds, I mean if the filename included non-latin characters (á é í ó ú ñ etc), the character is not recognized and a "?" symbol appears instead. I have used some hal policies but it didn't work, btw I use hal/udev for mounting removable media (not fstab).
Then, I found a solution in the wiki, I should use an udev rule, and I'm using this one http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ude … _it_exists: Mounting to /media using the partition label if it exists (I tried the following rule too). It solved the non-latin characters problem (it is an utf8 and iso problem for ntfs/vfat media).
The problem now is when I try to unmount the pendrive by right-clicking on it and selecting "unmount volume" an error message appears and it says that the volume has been mounted manually and can't be unmounted. If I unmount the pendrive manually (with the console), it works, but I want hal/udev to do it automatically (with right-click/unmount volume)..
What should I do, do I have to include something else in the udev rule?
    Thanx in advance..

that's so strange, that rules are for mount and umount...
if u can mount automatically, u can umount at the same way...
    check it out!

  • Tiger 10.4.11 to Snow Leopard using USB PENDRIVE Help..!

    Dear All;
    I have an Intel macbook which had TIGER10.4.11 earlier. As i realised that snow Leopard can be Installed Bypassing "Leopard 10.5" i tried it out but in Vain. please see below;
My Macbooks Internal Optical Drive has Fried as usual & the Install DVD of OS 10.6 is a 10A432 build (which i assume is enough for a SL clean install). connecting a USB External DVD drive i double clicked MAC OS X DVD on Tiger platform and followed the instructions which said to restart,on restart if i remember correctly (no customize options were present)and using Disk utility i erased the Whole internal drive thereby removing Tiger completely.
Restored the "MAC OS X INSTALL DVD" to a new 8 gb hp Pendrive (after formatting in mac os- journaled).
On startup clicked Option > chose USB install > clicked language Tab (Please Note no customize Tab or anything else was present which i assume is the case with all) . It showed "installing mac os x " and then a dialogue appeared saying +"Installation requires that Mac os x 10.5 be already insatlled on computer"+ alongwith two tabs RESTORE FROM BACKUP + Restart. Meanwhile the top menu Bar is inactive and greyed. so i chose "Restore from backup" at which point the top Menu bar becomes active. Using Disk Utility i made sure to frmat teh whole drive again but after quitting it there was no change and installation didnt move further.
Please Tell me is it absolutely necessary to install 10.5 or is it some problem with USB or where else i maybe going wrong.
I would be glad if any of you experts can clearly state the steps to Install Mac OS 10.6 on this macbook (with no OS whatsoever on a clean internal Disk) using only a USB Pendrive.
    Thanks much in Advance.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Regardless of what you do, you must backup your data at least twice before installing anything*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
Furthermore, make sure all your software is Snow Leopard compatible in these links:
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
    Now as for your installation:
Restored the "MAC OS X INSTALL DVD" to a new 8 gb hp Pendrive (after formatting in mac os- journaled).
You are approaching it the wrong way. Either:
    1. Verify the PRAM battery of the Mac in question isn't dead. Sometimes internal "dead" optical drives get revived when the PRAM battery is replaced. Anytime a Mac is over 4 years, the battery might need replacing, and that might fix the optical drive.
    2. Connect a bootable optical drive to the Mac and run the installer from it to the hard drive of the Mac. http://www.macsales.com/ has both internal and external optical drives.
    3. Have a technician clean the drive and make sure your disc is usable on their computer to verify your problem isn't with your installer disc.
Your pen drive is too small to install the operating system. You'd need a minimum of a 16GB pen drive to install. Furthermore, double check your machine has at least 1 GB of RAM in Apple menu -> About This Mac. 512MB of RAM, or 768MB of RAM won't cut it. If you choose a pen drive method, here's what you must do:
    4. Find another Mac of the same vintage and model with a working optical drive. Format a 16 GB pen drive GUID partitioning with Disk Utility. Install the operating system on the pen drive. Boot from the pen drive off the Mac with the bad optical drive, and use a cloning software such as Superduper, to clone Snow Leopard. Mind you this method would require you to erase the hard drive on the Mac. It is best if you just fix the optical drive on the other Mac if you wish to have a chance of preserving your data.
Another thing I realized reading your post:
dialogue appeared saying "Installation requires that Mac os x 10.5 be already insatlled on computer"
If you got that dialog you are using the wrong disc. That disc is only to be used with Macs which shipped 3 weeks prior to Snow Leopard's release to the date of Snow Leopard's release. The $29.95 installer available from the Apple Store has no such limit. Your procedure of restoring I doubt will work with a flash drive. My method might work if you have the correct disc*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/bootcd.html

  • What file format can be used to play 3D videos on Panasonic TVPlasma3D with USB PenDrive?

What file format can be used to play 3D videos on Panasonic TVPlasma3D with USB PenDrive?
I writed to Panasonic Italy support about this question:
"What file format can be used to play 3D videos on Panasonic TVPlasma3D with USB PenDrive?"
Panasonic writed me in a very poor manner and said me:
"...riproduce formati: AVCHD (anche 3D), SD-Video, DivXHD, JPEG, MP3, AAC tramite USB e Slot SD/SDHC/SDXC card..."
"...formato : AVCHD estensione file nella SD: .MTS..."
I made a few videos edited with PremiereProCS5 and exported as H.264 Coding and .mp4 file extension, all side by side, with layout 1920x1080pixels that includes two stretched frames at 960x1080 pixels.
This is the same image layout that uses the Panasonic 3D consumer camcorder "HDC-SDT750", that record AVCHD videos with file extension .MTS.
I also tried to export another video as MPEG2 with .mpg file extension.
But at the store the tests failed, and I cannot see anything!
    My questions are:
    1) What format can be used by PremiereProCS5 for exporting the Stereoscopic 3D videoclip and play them via USB port on Panasonic TVPlasma3D such "TX-P46VT20"?
    2) What codec should be used? H.264? H.264-bluray?
    3) What file extension should have the movie file? .mp4?
    Many Thanks!
    Horsepower0171.

-I already read entirely those threads, but nothing about stereoscopic 3D AVCHD movies through USB port, on Panasonic TVPlasma3D.
(Also, Sony said me that is not possible to play 3D videos on your 3DTV through USB port).
I tried to made a H.264 videoclip, with .MP4 extension, at 960x1080p side-by-side layout, but nothing was displayed, and black screen.
I think that just the AVCHD movies, with .MTS extension, that comes from Panasonic consumer camcorder "HDC-SDT750", can play the 3D videos via HDMI cable, not USB port.
But not the exported videos from PremierePro via USB port.
I seen this tutorial from David K Helmly:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/dhelmly#p/a/u/1/_YtF0c2bmkw
Dave export the video from PremiereProCS5 as "MPEG2-bluray" format with "Match Source Attributes (HighQuality)" Preset, and build the Bluray Disc in EncoreCS5, with the footage as MPEG2 with .m2v file extension:
    1) Anyone tried to play correctly in 3D, those MPEG2-.m2v side-by-side files, in Panasonic3DTV, with BlurayDiscReader?
    2) Why MPEG2.m2v side-by-side?
    3) The official standard stereoscopic 3D format, is not the .MVC (MultiViewCoding) for Bluray3D Disc?
    I am confused!
    Help!

  • Want to communicate with a Transcend Jetflash usb pendrive

I want to communicate with a Transcend Jetflash usb pendrive through VISA USB raw can any one suggest me anything about this

    Hi tanu,
It is possible to use the VISA Driver Development Wizard to create a driver for your USB device, provided you have all the necessary information about the device such as vendor ID, product ID, and communication protocol.  Here are a KnowledgeBase entry and a Tutorial that should help you get started:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/E3A2C4FE42D7ED0D86256DB7005C65C9?OpenDocument
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/6792bab18242082786256dd7006b6416
If all you are wanting to do is write data to the USB drive, then it might be easier to let the OS use it's own driver and just accesses the mounted drive with LabVIEW.

  • [SOLVED] Problem compiling kernel for an Arch install on USB pendrive

I've installed Arch linux to a USB pendrive and I'm building a kernel for my specific hardware (Acer Aspire One) so as there is no kernel26.img file needed.
I've used gothicknight's custom kernel but it doesn't work for me as it doesn't recognise my USB stick (/dev/sdb).  Instead, it just recognises the SSD (/dev/sda).  I believe the standard Arch kernel uses a "hook" called "usb" in order to work from a USB stick - at least that's how I've got the current (default) Archlinux kernel working.
I'm not that skilled at linux and am still quite new to kernel compilation (I've done it once or twice before and, yes, I've read the ArchWiki articles - both of them).  Can anyone tell me what I should do to get things working on a USB stick install?
    Kind regards
Last edited by Shagbag (2008-09-30 20:27:49)

Solved it.  I didn't need to recompile.  I just needed to add 'rootdelay=5' as a kernel boot parameter.

  • Boot from USB pendrive

    Hi!
I have installed PCLinuxOS on my Kingston 1 Gig USB pendrive. Problem is that it wont boot from my K8N-SLI. The pendrive boots fine from Dell, and I also tested it on a HP computer and its working there as well. I have tested every BIOS-settings I can think of and tried all available boot options when pressing F11 when booting. When I press F11 and select "Hard drive" I only get my hard drive (of curse) and "Bootable Add-in cards" but it don't see my pendrive. If I select "Bootable Add-in cards" or "USB-ZIP" I get "Invalid system disk".
Does this motherboard support booting from USB-pendrives?
    Regards
    Eazy

It's not detected and I cant find "USB Legacy support" anywhere in my BIOS (flashed to the latest version). Anything referring to USB (like keyboard, mouse etc.) in my BIOS is activated.
Today I tried the pendrive on an old Compaq and it worked there as well.

  • AIR on USB Pendrive

    Hi peoplez,
I wonder if it would be possible to install the AIR runtime
on a USB pendrive so that I can take my AIR apps with me and run it
from any PC without having to install the runtime.
    Anyone got an idea?
    Greetz
    czery

No, this won't work. The Windows installation model depends
on both files written to disk and data stored in the registry. If
you move your USB drive to another machine, the registry data will
    be missing.

  • USB Headset Prob

Hello, I installed a SB X-Fi XtremeGamer a few hours ago and I encountered some problems. The card and the software included work normally when normal speakers are connected, however, my USB headset (Speed-Link Medusa 5. USB) does not seem to cooperate with the new card. It seems that the headset uses its own "drivers" and actually bypases the sound card, if that is even possible. I tried changing the sound input and output settings from a "USB Audio" entry to the "SB X-Fi" one, but then it all went mute.
Does anyone have a solution please? Is there a chance I can get my headset to work with the new card?
    Thanks in advance?

    You answered your own question,
It seems that the headset uses its own "drivers" and actually bypases the sound card,?
You want to use that headset with your sound card you're going to need to find an adapter for the USB connection so you can plug it into the card, or get a headset that isn't USB.

  • USB Detection Prob

Hello everyone. I am having a USB problem with my Inspiron 00 with Windows XP. It will not Detect my Creative Zen Micro. At first, everything was fine. Problem started when I upgraded from Windows media Player 0 to . When I "Rolled Back" to WMP 0, would no longer Detect My Zen micro. I have tried these Methods so far:
    ...Downloaded latest XP updates
2...Downloaded latest Creative Drivers thru hardware update wizard
3... Tried to Uninstall the ZEN in Device Manager. (Will not Uninstall)
4... Tried other devices in USB ports. Ports work fine
    Any suggestions?

I also have a Creative Zen Nano Plus, and I had all the player recognition problems that everyone else has complained about. I tried all the recommendations (different USB port, going back to old firmware - not easy to do by the way, downloading hot fixes, etc.), but the one thing that finally got everything to work was I uninstalled IomegaWare software for my Zip dri've. I hardly use anyone, so that wasn't a big loss. By the way, I had to do more than just uninstall the software. There were still IomegaWare files left on my hard dri've and entries in the registry that I had to remove before everything started working fine.
If you have IomegaWare, I recommend removing it. If you don't, look for some other removable USB-based device that loaded special software, perhaps a camera? Good Luck!!!

  • Kernal panic (ethernet), USB mouse prob, kb backlight failed

    Hey all:
Sometimes when I remove the ethernet cable from my PB I get a kernal panic message. It has also happened when I move my PB when the ethernet cable is connected, as well as some other times that are just plain random.
Additionally, my wireless mouse that uses a USB port for the receiver/transmitter (not bluetooth) does not register after sleep, only after restart.
Finally, my keyboard backlight feature no longer works, even in a dark room or with the sensors near the speakers covered. I also tried the backlight using a new account and it still did not work.
I've copied the panic.log text from the last three kernal panics below.

Which Symantec/Norton do you have? I've read reports here of the enterprise version of Symantec not causing problems for Macs.
You could temporarily unload the Symantec kext. But not sure if temporary unoading persists through a reboot.
Copy/Paste into Terminal. Hit return, then give your password, which you will not see on the sreeen as you type. Hit return.
    sudo kextunload Symantec.kext.SAVAPComm/
    To reverse
    sudo kextload Symantec.kext.SAVAPComm/
You can do this with all of the kexts you want to test by substituting the names you find in /System/Library/Extensions. Be sure to observe case and spaces EXACTLY, if you do this.

  • How to create a USB pendrive with HUU for UCS

    hi,
I have 4 UCS C220M3 that needs updates, and I downloaded HUU2.0.3d-1 for this as ISO file
I really want to use a USB drive to boot the UCS of of the box before i shipthem out - So there are no network connectvity - just out of the box, boot to USB via F6 and go !
I have doine this before on 1.5 code, but now with 2.0 I got all kinds of funny error and I think its related to the way I create the USB drive
So what is the best way to create a bootable USB drive from this Cisco ISO image ?
I tried 3 sorts of "makers", but none can boot and load the HUU.
Latest I tried will boot up and start HUU, but then just fails while loading firmware  and tools
    Please advise

What is the error that you get when you try the install via the USB drive?
Another option you have is to connect a laptop directly to the mgmt port of the C Server and configure the ip adress of the cimc and the laptop on the same subnet. when you are done with the firmware upgrade you can reset the CIMC of the server to ffactory defaults to remove ip config of the server

  • Sync with USB pendrive in KDE

    Hello,
When i insert an USD memory, KDE correctly detects it and open a konqueror window with the USB content. Perfect. Then, i copy various MB to it. Perfect. Close the window, right-click over the icon and select "Safety extract" (i've translated it, as i've KDE in spanish), and a moreless 0,3 sec. later, the icon disappears.
It seems that all the process was OK but it isn't. When extracting the USB, inserting again all the MB of data that  were copied aren't in the USB.
What really happened was that the sync operation is not made when i copy the files, umouting instead. But, as the icon in the desktop dissapears, it appears that i can safely remove the USB. The copy process is done after that icon have dissapeared, as the lights of the USB keep "flashing". If i remove the USB when that lights stops, and insert again, the files have been copied.
Well, the question is how can i make to avoid that the device icon dissapears unless the copy process finished ok... or isn't this the normal behaviour?
I think that this can be controlled moreless with fstab, but i haven't no entry in fstab related to extraible devices, as with pmount is no necessary, so, any solution?
Searching the forum found similar questions but not exactly this.

A provisional trick that "solves" it.
In KDE, i've set up the option that in the desktop only must appear mounted devices. I changed it, so an ummounted USB is shown in the desktop too.
With this "trick", when i "safely extract", happens this:
    - Select safely extract
    - In 0,3 seconds the "green" avatar (is mounted) dissapears.
    - The USB device keeps on in the desktop, but as if it was umounted
    - No progress bar
    - When all the copy process has finished, the icon disappears

  • Sounblaster live usb driver prob

Hello everyone. Have encountered a problem with the 'standalone' driver update for my usb soundblaster li've. I installed the driver - without anything else, just as is - but there isn't an option to activate 5. sound anywhere - done the usual things - control panel etc. Worse I couldn't and still can't find an uninstall option. Nowhere. I've looked, control panel, everywhere. So ... I foolishly installed the stuff off the cd - which worked, I got 5. sound, but then I was getting some horrible noises with cubase so I decided to try uninstalling everything but just can't. I removed eveything I could, but couldn't find how to get rid of the standalone update. I just want to install the drivers cleanly - and thereby hopefully get cubase to work without the noise that I get with the creative drivers - it works with windows drivers, but I get really bad latency problems.
I wonder if anyone could advise me on how to fully uninstall all the creative stuff, and then if I ought to install stuff off the CD first and THEN the update?
Oh I'm running XP Pro, via chipset, nvidia graphics.
    Thanks for any help offered.

?The speakers no longer work at all with the headset unplugged. The Li've card is still set as the default (I've tried with the 'use only default devices' checked and unchecked, neither work). I've verified the checkboxes and sliders in the Volume control settings. All the basics (I think) have been covered, and there is still no sound coming from the speakers.
