  • I've bought a new USB flash memory. I plugged it in the USB port then a message come out: Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.... Please help...

I don't know what to do. I plugged that USB in both ports but the same message came out. I charged my laptop and the same thing happened again. The surprising thing is that I tried plugging the USB in my cousins laptop (Macbook Pro) and it worked!!! but not with mine. The USB flash memory made by PNY. Please help...

There are two types of USB 2 devices - low power which consume 100 milliamperes or less from the USB bus and high power which consume up to 500 milliamperes. Your flash drive is probably a high power device and is overloading the USB bus of your computer. (Some notebooks can support only low power USB devices.)
I know that my MBP's USB ports support high power devices but I've come across reports that not all high power devices will work on the MBA and that might be the case for your flash drive. My guess is it has a large capacity? 32GB or more?

  • How many amperes can be powered by the USB Port

I'm looking for a new USB Powered HD (in the 160-250 GB range) that my AirPort Extreme's USB port can power.
My current LaCie USB Powered Mobile Harddisk ( http://www.lacie.com/uk/products/product.htm?pid=10651 ) can't get enough power from the AirPort Extreme (n) to run.
    QUESTIONS:
How many amperes does the AirPort USB port "support"?
Do you have a USB powered HD that works fine with the APEBS (2.5" in the 160-250 GB Range)? - Make and model please?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Allan,
You mention you wish to use the older SKU  p/n SRW224G4P, which has been refreshed and  replaced by  SRW224G4P-K9-NA
    .Here is the EOL notice fior the SKU you detailed;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps9967/end_of_life_notice_c51-626527.html
Why not avail yourself of the newer 300 series switch such as  SRW224G4P-K9-NA .
I am using beta code version 1.1 code on my unit.
Version 1.1  will be Generally Available  at the end of this month ( fingers crossed),  and Version 1.1 firmware supports CDP.
    See datasheet for the new product, generations ahead of the old p/n that you mentioned.;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps10898/data_sheet_c78-610061.html
Anyway the  AP1240AG  isn't a pre-standard device but supports standards based  802.3af, hence i really see no benefit in using the older product..
Datasheet on the AP1240AG correlates with your data, maximum power drawn is 12.4watts.
Allan,  your calulations seem spot on.
SRW224G4P-K9-NA as well as the older switch you mention both support aPOE  power budget of 180W.
I personally like to be slightly conservative in terms of loading the switch up..  I prefer  to spread the load between switches if i can.
But the GUI of the 300 series switch will show the power drawn by the devices.
The device circled below is a AP1142 with wireless-a turned off.
    Have fun,
    regards Dave

  • USB Port Limitations???

Here's the deal. I have 1 20" aluminum iMac and 3 homebrew Windows PCs. The PCs are connected to an Iogear KVM-DVI powered switch to share Kbd, Mouse, and usb devices. On the iMac I had an Epson printer, a Canon scanner and Dymo Labelmaker connected to a Belkin powered USB hub and the keyboard and ipod connected directly to the mac's USB ports, and it all worked fine.
I decided to see if I could share everything with everybody and I connected the Belkin Powered USB hub to the switched USB port on the KVM-DVI switch. Now I can see the printer, scanner, and labelmaker from all of my PCs when switched and they work with all of the pcs through the switch. I can also use a common keyboard/mouse/display with all pcs and the iMac, but the iMac does not see the other usb devices. The only difference from the iMac's viewpoint is now a single usb port supports a keyboard, mouse, and a belkin hub. It appears that either the iMac does not like sharing the usb port for the keyboard and mouse with anything else, or there is a limit to the number of usb devices per port.
I'm nonplussed because I've been running Macs and Pcs in a shared environment since the Mac Plus and with the exception of a bizarre wiring requirement for the RS442 serial port on the old Mac Plus everything has always worked (at least when I applied a hammer to the appropriate places). Is this an impossible dream, or is there a bigger hammer available?

Possible that it's not supported by the router. To see the list of supported hard drives, you can go to this link: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=0542deb2fe8c469383f8c59723d256a2_List_of_Tested_US....

Does the touchpad usb port support ANY other connections besides charging and connection to a PC? I realize the usb port is un-powered, but there are easy ways to get around that.

  • Pavilion dv6 2190us esata/usb port and Dual HDD Dock

When I connect  a dual HDD dock (BlacX Duet) to the esata/usb port only one drive is recognized.  Can this esata/usb port support dual sata drives?  How do I make it work?
    Windows 7  64-bit

I have the exact same question with my DV6T I bought Nov 2009.  Did you ever get an answer?  I want to buy a dock that supports 2 sata drives and connects via 1 eSata cable to the laptop.  But before investing need to know if the eSata port is multi port aware as the docks require the laptop chipset be able to support. I emailed HP help desk without success so far.  Any info is appreciated...thanks.

  • Determining speed of USB ports - MacBook

I have heard that one USB port in my MacBook could be faster than the other.
I've had a look in System Information > Hardware > USB but don't understand the USB Device Tree (image below). How do I tell what applies to each USB port?

If you have a 2012 model then your USB ports support both 2.0 and 3.0. Otherwise, your USB ports are all 2.0.
Your model information should be in your user manual. If you don't have one you can download one from support.apple.com/manuals/.

    - Try restoring the iPod, first from backup and then try to factory settings/new iPod to rule out a software problem.
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and broken or cracked plastic.
    - Could you have damaged something when you took the iPod apart and replaced the Home button?

    Hi,
I purchased Huawei Dongle and trying to connect with my new MacBook Pro (OS- Mountain Lion) USB port 3.0 but unfortunately it does not support.
When I plugged in my macbook the power is flowing in dongle due green light blinking twice in every 3 sec but no connection found or diver shown.
Please let me know how I have to use it. I got some suggestion for USB hub 2.0 but It does not make any sense and driver installation.
So please suggest proper direction to use it and provide link to install any driver.
    Thanks
    Tauheed Ahmad

Yes Clinton I did same, but they were (Huawei customer support) surprised about this problem, They behave like they have no idea about USB 2.0 and  3.0 knowledge. They handsUp that reason I posted my problem in this forum.
So is there any better solution to use any mediator between these USB version handling, Please let me know.
    Thanks

  • Continue to receive error 1604 and can't use the recover function - help!  I have gone through all the steps listed in support and nothing has worked.  I am using a usb port I tested with my printer cable and it's fine.

I wanted to update my software this morning and it has turned into a nightmare.  I continue to receive the error 1604, which is related to a usb port.  I followed all the steps listed in support and nothing has helped.  I just plugged in my printer cable to the usb port and it works fine, yet I continue to receive this error and can't use my phone!

A printer does not require power, and does not transfer large amounts of data. So that is not a valid test. It's like saying "if I plug a nightlight into an outlet it works fine, so why do 2 hair dryers on at the same time trip a circuit breaker?"
Are you using a port directly on the computer, and not a hub? If it's not a laptop and it has ports on front and back are you using a back port, which can supply more power?
Have you EVER used this computer to hack or jailbreak ANY iPhone (not necessarily the one with the problem? Or used a program to downgrade the version of iOS on any phone?

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • My computer and itunes do not see my iphone 'device' when I plug into either USB port on the computer.  Have tried all the basic stuff suggested by 'support'.  Any ideas?

My computer and itunes app do not see my iphone when I plug it into either USB port on the computer.  The cable works because I can hear the iphone start charging off the computer.  But there is no indication of the device in itunes or on my hard drive device list.  Any ideas?

Have no idea what you mean by "basic stuff".  Try EVERYTHING in this support article:

  • Does Extreme router support 3G dongles, since it has a USB port?

I have an Airtel 3G dongle and was wondering if I could use the USB port on the Apple Extreme router to make it work as a router that can broadcast 3G signals.

A dedicated mobile broadband router, as suggested by edex67, is a good idea. There are models from several manufacturers. Before you buy, ensure that the exact USB mobile broadband modem and the network operator are supported. Just as an example, the web page belows claims support for some Airtel modems:
