Use SETUP Cartridges

I just got this Printer HP Deskjet Advantage 5525
When I put the ink that came with the printer, this message in the printer screen says "Use SETUP Cartage"!! (Please Use the SETUP Cartridges that came with your printer)
Actually, I put the orginal.
This question was solved.
View Solution.

The setup cartridges are used for initial installation, after the ink is used you would replace them with standard supplies.
If the cartridges that came in the box did not work I would suggest the troubleshooting steps in the document here.  If that does not resolve the issue I would suggest you Contact HP for warranty service.

  • Can you bypass the Use Setup Cartridges on a HP Deskjet 3070

    Hi
We have a Deskjet 3070 which was printing in different colours instead of black even with new black cartridges installed. So, we decided to do a factory reset by powering off and useing the OK, Cancel and On/Off power button sequence. Now it is looking for the Setup Cartidges but these were thrown out ages ago. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

How many times can use setup cartrige?
Can i setup more printers of same model with same setup cartridge?

We dont need to use the setup cartridges if the printer gets into any problem like ink cartridge rejection or paper jam or any failure.
Can you let me know what reset are you perfoming, for any hard reset or reset done from front panel menu we dont require any setup cartridges.
The setup cartridges are required only if there is any printer hardware replacement.

  • Using Setup cartridges after set up?

    Hello
I purchased a Photosmart 5520 in July 2013. The original printer was replaced under warranty due to a hardware fault. A new one arrived with new set up cartridges. Everything was set up and it worked perfectly.
Today I have come to change the cartridges, using what I think are the original printers set up cartridges, and naturally they don't work.
Is there anyway of using these cartridges at all? I don't want to have to buy new ones when these are perfectly good! That's not very 'environmentally friendly' is it HP?!
    Many thanks in advance.
    Stuart

Sorry, after the initial setup cartridges are used up the printer will require retail cartridges for the replacements.  I am surprised you were not asked to return the original printer and its cartrdiges when you got the replacement printer.

  • Deskjet 3070a use setup cartridges error

Hi I am having th same error message asking me to use the setup cartridges, i have no idea why I have changed the cartridges several times and to my knowlidge the power has not been removed from the printer, I have managed to find three of the original setup cartridges but not he black as no doubt that has been changed most often and was disposed of.
this seems to be a very poor system, it looks as if I shall have to buy another printer which is a shame as this one has worked faultlessly for some time now, it is well out of warenty. Please help sombody,
    regards Mike

    Hi @Mikepaget,
I understand that you are getting the message to "use the setup cartridges". You have already had several cartridges installed, so the setup cartridges wouldn't be required. I can help you.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
I have provided a document with some steps to try.

  • 3070A setup cartridge message

Hi I have had a 3070A all in one for a year or so (it is out of warranty). I have just replaced the cartridges, we must have used about 10 sets over the time we have had the printer. The cartridges are genuine HP, although we have used other brands one or twice.
Suddenly I am getting the message "use SETUP cartridges for initialisation" and it won't print or copy.
I have tried unplugging the mains and rebooting it to no avail. I have long since lost the setup cartidges.
Is there any way around this?
Any help very much appreciated -  I need to print some tickets out urgently!!!
    Thanks

    Thank you for this information.

  • Setup cartridges

Hello, I have gotten completely stuck on my HP Deskjet 3070A all in one. It has worked very well for a couple of years. Suddenly it wouldn't use black ink at all. Other colors printed fine. Of course I replaced the black ink with a new cartridge, and of course I tried the printhead cleaning options. I then tried to follow an instruction to do a reset of the printer, but the result was that I now get a "Thank you for choosing HP" every time I turn the printer on, and when I press "OK" to that, I invariably get the message "Use SETUP cartridges". I have seen various solutions to this on this board, and have tried to follow each of the variations, but to no avail. I have tried disconnecting the power with cartridges in and with cartridges out. Still the same message:"Use SETUP cartridges". I live in the UK, and calling the UK support led nowhere. I cannot find any official information in my documentation about resets or how, when, or why to use setup cartridges (other than the initial setup after purchase). I have long since discarded my setup cartridges, as I had no idea they were essential later, and they had run out of ink anyway. I would be willing to purchase new setup cartridges, if needed, but cannot find any place to buy them online (and I assume only HP can supply them anyway). Also, I have no idea whether setup cartridges are tied to a printhead, so that it all needs to be replaced together. Any help at all would be appreciated.

You mentioned that you contacted HP by phone, but received no support, is that because the printer isn't in warranty or were they just not able to resolve the issue?
I would honestly weigh your options here.
If the ink levels are at zero, I would recommend replacing the cartridges as the best troubleshooting step that you could try. There really is no way to try any other troubleshooting steps until you have cartridges in the printer that actually have ink. You can't do anything with empty cartridges unfortunately.
Then again, I would see how much buying a new printer would cost you vs the cartridges. With a new printer, you will have a new set of starter cartridges and a one year warranty that will cover any hardware and software issues that you may have, if any. It's also possible to purchase an extended warranty though HP, that will cover any issues with the printer after the one year warranty is up.
So really that decision is up to you.
If I have been helpful or if you’d like to say thanks you can click the white star under my name to give me Kudos.  I really appreciate it!
    Best of luck,
    Kyle

  • HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One - SETUP Cartridges cannot be used

I purchased a refurbished Deskjet 3520 today from a local electronics store that came with SETUP Cartridges in the box.  I turned on the printer, installed the cartridges, and received the following error message:
    ! Do not use SETUP
SETUP cartridges cannot be used after the device has been initialized.  Remove and install non-SETUP cartridges.
Is there a way for me to do a factory restore / reset so that I can get these cartridges to work?  The cartridges themselves have not been used before.  Just trying to save money and use the cartridges that came with the device.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello busackzl,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand your concerns with your Deskjet 3520. Please try these steps:
    1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector
    2) Take out the ink cartridges, close the cartridge door
    3) Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer (Do not press the power button)
    4) Wait 60 seconds or more
    5) Plug the power cord back into the printer, wait for the printer to turn on completely
    6) Now, install the ink cartridges
If you are still receiving the same message, then please contact HP technical support for further assistance. Click here to find out: HP Worldwide Contact.

  • HP 7520 Printer - Need to bypass requirement for SETUP cartridges

I purchased a new HP 7520 and also a package of new ink cartridges for it.  The printer was a store demo that was on sale.  I got home with it and tried to set it up using my new cartridges and it continues to refuse to accept them stating that I need to use the SETUP cartridges which came with it.  It did not come with SETUP as it was an out of box printer purchased in the store sale.
Have I just been screwed?  Why the hades does it "require" setup cartridges?  What does this cartridge do that new ones don't do?  And how can I bypass this for setup?  I'm not junking a $140 printer over lack of setup cartridges.  I have been an HP customer for over 20 years...can't even tell you how many HP printers and PC's I've had over the years and this is the first time I've ever run into this ludicrous issue.
I'm not buying special SETUP cartridges.  I want a bypass for this problem.  I know there has to be one.  The printer is brand new and had not apparently ever even been setup inside the store...it was a non-operational demo.  The cartridge head is shiney and clean.  C'mon HP...get real here!  Why do you NEED setup cartridges?  I'm an old customer.  Work with me here!

  • Got Officejet 6600 from third party vendor, had no setup cartridges.

My company bought an HP 6600 to use as a standalone copier. It's not hooked up to any computer. Our printer did not come with setup cartridges (All original packing intact, but company removed the setup cartridges for their own use.). This was communicated in the product info page where we bought the printer, so we were aware of this.
However, it seems we cannot set up the printer AT ALL without the setup cartridges. We have new 932/933XL cartridges for the printer, but we can't bypass the setup. It is patently insane that you cannot set this machine up without setup cartridges.
I would like to know if there is some way to bypass this setup, or if we can order a set of setup cartridges to use to turn this thing into something other than a giant plastic paperweight.

So please tell me  do i need to purchase a new black cartidge, will it work? or what shoud i do ?

    Hi @nirmal007,
Welcome to the HP Support Forum!  I understand you're having cartridge issues with your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 5525 e-All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with clearing up that error state and have some troubleshooting steps that may resolve the issue.
I recommend you try the following steps before you consider purchasing a new black ink cartridge.  Firstly after you've confirmed that your ink levels are not the problem (example - the level is above 10%), try a 'hard reset':
    Secondly:
Make sure that the ink cartridges are properly vented and seated correctly
If the vent on the top of the ink cartridge is clogged or obstructed, the ink cartridge might not work properly. Follow these steps to make sure that the ink cartridges are properly vented and seated correctly.
Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already turned on. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before continuing.
Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the access area.
Figure : Open the cartridge access door
Press the tab on the front of the cartridge inward to release it, and then pull up on the cartridge to remove it from the slot.
Figure : Remove the cartridge from the slot
Examine the vent area on each cartridge, above the HP logo on the top of the cartridge.
Figure : Vent area on the top of the cartridge
If the cartridge still has the orange pull-tab attached, pull to remove it.
    Figure : Orange pull tab
If the vent is clogged, use a straight pin to gently remove excess adhesive from the vent.
Figure : Clean the clogged vent with a pin
    Clogged vent
With a straight pin, gently remove excess adhesive from the vent
    Unclogged vent
With the nozzle and contacts facing down, slide the cartridge into its slot. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks into place.
note:Make sure that each cartridge is installed in the correct slot. Match the shape of the icon and the color of the cartridge with the slot that has the same shaped icon and color.
    Figure : Reinsert the cartridge
Repeat these steps to inspect the vents on each of the cartridges.
Make sure that each cartridge is firmly in place in its slot. Run your finger along the top of the cartridges to feel for any that are protruding, and if any are, press down firmly until each cartridge snaps into place.
    Close the cartridge access door.
Figure : Close the cartridge access door
    Source
Thirdly, try cleaning your cartridge contacts:
Manually cleaning the print cartridge contacts
Follow the steps below to manually clean the print cartridge contacts:
Gather the following items to clean the contacts:
Distilled water (tap water may contain contaminants that can damage the print cartridge)
Cotton swabs or other soft, lint-free material that will not stick to the print cartridge
    Open the print cartridge door.
Remove the print cartridge and place it on a piece of paper with the ink nozzle plate facing up.
     caution:
Do not to touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzle plate with your fingersFigure : Do not touch copper-colored contacts
caution:Do not leave the print cartridge outside the printer for more than 30 minutes. Ink nozzles exposed to the air longer than this may dry out and cause printing problems.
Lightly moisten a cotton swab with distilled water and squeeze any excess water from the swab.
Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts with the cotton swab.
caution:Do not touch the ink nozzle plate. Touching the ink nozzle plate will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until no ink residue or dust appears on a clean swab.
Insert the print cartridge in the printer, and then close the print cartridge door.
    Source
If you've tried all of the above noted steps and you're still unable to use the black cartridge, you may need to pick up a new one.  Let me know if this helps.  Best of luck!
