User interface poll feedback

In the Forum maintainence forum there is new poll one can vote on.
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=710736&tstart=0
But since we can only just vote and not give any useful feedback there I thought I would do it here. Please feel free to add additional comments and this afternoon I will report abuse on this thread in the hope of bringing it to someones attention.
I voted "Don't touch it! Current view is way better" but I wish there was another option because what I really wanted to vote for is the option that says.
"Dont touch anything! The new view I am sure is fine and dandy and someone put some work into it BUT every time changes get made old bugs come back to life and wieghed against that I would rather not seen any changes at all".

From the UI perspective, this one is actually quite good.
Actually, there's one really major UI failing of this forum - it bugs me regularly, and it's the fact that when you type a reply, you do so on a separate page, with only one post to see. Quite often I want to reply to several posts at once, copying bits in from each, and that's just not possible. I can't even get round it by clicking the middle button for a new tab, because the "reply" link is on a stupid scripted link.
Personally I think implementing a UI is a pretty simple problem, it's been done a hundred times, and this forum is certainly one of the suckiest ones I've seen. Granted, at least it doesn't have stupid icons everywhere, but that single dumb 'feature' is a real ballache.
The other thing I don't like is that it keeps logging me out.
Other than that, it does the job and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Or, perhaps more appropriate for this forum, if it ain't broke, don't break it.
Oh and is it me or have we lost "sort by date" on the search results? I used to use that all the time.

  • User Interfaces of video editing software, feedback needed

    Hallo,
my name is Wolfgang, I'm a student at OvG-University in Magdeburg, Germany. Me and my team are researching user interfaces of video editing software.
As a part of this, we created a small online survey [1], mainly targeted at professional cutters (amateurs are welcome too, though). It is pretty basic for now and shouldn't cost you much of your time.
Please consider participating in it as it would provide us with valuable data needed for our research.
I found no indication in the terms of Use that posting a non-commercial survey is prohibited. Still, if this message is considered spam, please excuse my mistake.

  • UI (User Interface) text size and colors

Recent versions of Elements (7, 8, 9) have changed to a user interface which is predominantly shades of gray and black with few if any user options for color or font. The font size cannot be altered because Adobe use their own pixel-based font which is not compatible with Windows Desktop settings. So on many flat screens with high resolutions the font becomes almost unreadable. The upper case 'E' in the menu bar Edit for example, is a mere 2.03mm high on a 22" display at 1920x1080 resolution.
This has been mentioned a number of times over these releases to no avail, but at last there may be a change on the way for PSE 10 (later later this year?).
So if you feel the gray/black UI needs attention I suggest you visit
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/my_eyes_need_help_with_photoshop
where there are a number of comments. This is monitored by Adobe so may influence the next release. The more request there are I suspect the more likely some action. Adobe have already commented: "The amount of conversation that this thread has generated among Elements customers was unanticipated." on the thread.
If you wish to place a comment you will need a Photoshop Account and to be logged in. If you didn't create an account when you installed the product then just click Create Account at the top of the link above.

Font sizes are hard-coded in teh apps and there is no way to change that. The new CC versiosn support high-DPI displays and resolve those issues (mostly).

  • User Interface Guidelines for CRM 2007 are now available

The CRM UI Concept Team has made the [UI Guidelines for CRM Web Client User Interface (CRM 2007 UI)|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/302d8152-002b-2b10-34bd-9ff3c712dd4b] available to the BPX community:
This document provides an overview of the on-premise as well as the off-premise versions of the SAP CRM Web Client User Interface (UI). It contains the properties and principles of the SAP CRM Web Client UI that are already committed and available. For planned features, refer to the corresponding specification documents.
The information in the guidelines starts with general topics, followed by details. The sections are organized with high-level topics like Page Types and Navigation Schema first, followed by the consecutive sections describing which building blocks and elements of the UI populate the various pages. A section typically starts with one or more screenshots of a central UI element with a generic explanation. The subsequent sections explain the detailed aspects of each element.
We hope that you will find this information useful.
    Enjoy the new CRM UI!
Feel free to provide your feedback.

  • How can I improve the response time of the user interface?

I'm after some tips on how to improve the response time to mouse clicks on a VI front panel.
I have  data acquistion application which used to run fine, but after spending a couple of weeks making a whole bunch of changes to it I find that the user interface has become a bit sluggish.
My main GUI VI has a while loop running 16 times a second, updating some waveform charts and polling about a dozen buttons on the front panel.
There is sometimes a delay (variable, but up to 2 seconds sometimes) from when I click on a button to when it becomes depressed. I have wired the iteration terminal of the while loop to an indicator on the front panel and can see that the while loop is ticking over during the delayed response to the mouse click, so I know that the problem is not that the whole program is running slow, just the response to mouse clicks.
Also, just for debugging purposes, I have indicators of the iterations of all the main while loops in my program on the front panel, so I can see that there are no loops running abnormally fast either.
One thing I've tried is to turn off multi-threading, and this does seem to work - the response to mouse clicks is much faster. However, it has the side effect of making the main GUI while loop run less evenly. I was trying to get a fairly smooth waveform scrolling across the screen, and when multi-threading is off it gets a bit jerky.
    Any other suggestion welcome..
    (I am using LabVIEW 7.1, Windows 2000).
    Regards,
    Mark.

    Hi Altenbach,
Thanks for your reply. In answer to your questions:
I am doing both DAQ board and serial data acquisition. I am using NIDAQ traditional for the DAQ board, and VISA for the serial. I have other similar versions of this program that do only DAQ board, or only serial, and these work fine. It was only when I combined them both into the same program that I ran into problems.
The multiple while loops are actually in separate VIs. I have one VI that acquires data from the DAQ card, another VI that acquires data from the serial port, another VI that processes the data and saves to file, and another VI, the GUI VI, that displays the data in graphs and charts.  The data is transferred betwen the VIs via LV2 globals.
The GUI VI is a bit more complicated than I first mentioned. It has tab control, with 4 waveform charts on one page, 4 waveform graphs on another page, and 3 waveform graphs on another page. The charts have a history length of 2560, and 16 data points are added 16 times a second. The wavefom graphs are only updated once per minute.
I don't use the value property at all, but I do use lots of property nodes for changing the properties of the graphs and charts e.g. changing plot colours, Y scale range etc. There is only one local variable (for the Tab control). All the graphs and charts have data wired directly to their terminals.
I haven't done any profiling yet.
I am building arrays in uninitialised shift registers, but this is all well under control. As the experiement goes on, more data is collected and stored, and so the memory usage does gradually increase, but only to the extent that I would expect.
The CPU usage is 100%, but I thought this was always the case when using NIDAQ  with DAQ cards. Or am I wrong about this? (As a side note, I am using NIDAQ traditional, but would NIDAQmx be better?)
Execution priority of the GUI vi (and all the other VIs for that matter) is set to normal.
The program is a bit large to post here, and I'm not sure if my company would be happy for me to publicise it anyway, so I suspect that this is turning into one of those questions that are going to be impossible to answer.
Just as a more general question, why would turning off multi-threading improve the user interface response?
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • Disable Items in User Interface - Custom

I have been looking through the Control Identifier/Policy ID number from the spreadsheets below.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=6627
I have been unable to find the following item in order to remove it using group policy.  Can someone tell me definitively if it does not exist and if it does what is the correct ID in order to disable it through User Configuration->Administrative
    Templates->Microsoft Outlook 2010->Disable Items in User Interface->Custom.
Under Tasks, New Task, Assign Task there is a check box next to "Send me a status report when this task is complete" that I want to remove.
    Thanks,
    -Ethan

    Hi Ethan,
    >>Under Tasks, New Task, Assign Task there is a check box next to "Send me a status report when this task is complete" that I want to remove.
Sorry, based on my knowledge and test, there is no corresponding policy ID to disable this checkbox.
In addition, I searched around and found that this setting should correspond to the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\options\Tasks
    AddToUpdList
Regarding this point, the following article can be referred to for more information.

  • Slow User Interface Performance on a Mac Pro

I've recently purchased a late 2013 6-core Mac Pro with 16gb of memory and the 256gb SSD.  While the general performance of Final Cut Pro X is outstanding (applying filters, transitions, analyzing for dominant motion, optical flow retiming, rendering, etc.), the user interface seems to still start to slow down the further along I am in my project.  It is most noticeable when I click a clip in my timeline to modify a video property in the inspector, then hit play (spacebar) again to resume editing.  At the start of a project, I can fly through my clips and edit without any hesitation, but as I near the 90 second-ish mark (with an edit/clip every 5-10 seconds), the responsiveness of the user interface starts to waiver just like my previous early 2011 Macbook Pro (something I thought was related to the graphics and/or system performance of computers from that era).
I've tried creating proxy and optimized media projects and even edited my h.264 footage in native, compressed format - regardless of what I try, the performance of the user interface is nearly identical until I start to hit a few minutes with some colour corrections on 25% of the clips.  I've also experimented with the playback quality during editing (i.e., best performance vs. quality) which resulted in minimal performance improvements.
Clearly, this Mac Pro has been designed to tear through video footage and process mass amounts of data, but I wonder if there is something else looming in the code of Final Cut Pro X that, regardless of the computer in use, the user interface just gets sluggish at a certain point when a critical mass of edits/clips are in a project.
Any comments or feedback would be greatly welcomed, as I may decide to return this beast and settle on an iMac if this symptom exists regardless of what Mac I use.
    Sincerely,
    Ryan Smith

    1.  All of my media was located on the SSD installed inside the Mac Pro and is the startup disk of the computer
This will slow you down.  Get a secondary drive for the media and Libraries.
    2.  The SSD had between 50g and 150g (depending on the project) available
That drive is becoming too full, and slowing down.
    3.  The project consisted of a single event from one import, about 100 files totalling 40g
A good USB 3 or Thunderbolt external RAID will fly through that without issue.  The system drive will get bogged down.
    4.  I haven't paid close enough attention to Activity Monitor; I will start doing that, but FCPX is the only application I ever have open when editing and consumes about 12gb - 16gb.
16GB RAM should be plenty for FCPX.  I've never seen it eat up that much RAM, even on very large projects.  But more RAM won't hurt if the system is using that much RAM.  How are you getting those RAM usage numbers?
The issue seems to be your drive.  First, don't use the system drive, that will bog things down, no matter what type of drive it is.  Second, get your media and Libraries on a fast secondary (external) drive.
Finally, are you running with the dual D500 or D700 GPUs?  There is a significant performance difference between the two in FCPX and Motion 5.  But I highly doubt that's your issue.  I think you simply are eating up too much of your drive, and running off the system drive, both are huge no-no's.

  • Labview Simple User Interface

I would like to know how to add a simple LED indicator in the TestStand Labview Simple User Interface that would display the Sequence Status( PASSED or FAILED ) ?
    I'm using TestStand 3.1.
    Thanks a lot
    Olivier

    Hi Olivier,
There are several ways to implement this.
The quick and easy method would be to read the ItemText from the Executions ComboBox control. Then scan it to see if it contains "Passed".
    (see attached VI)
An alternative is to setup a TestStand UI Label Control, Using the ExecutionViewManager you can set a CaptionSource to the UUTStatus. This will then contain the UUTStatus of the currently selected execution. This is similar to above except the string will only contain the UUTStatus string, not all of the details in the execution string.
However a "more complete" method would be to setup a Callback VI for UIMessages, when the UIMsg_ModelState_TestingComplete is recieved, the UUT status can be retrived. (Refer to the TestStand Help file)
The callback (assuming it has a reference to the LED) can then set the value of it.
This method is prefered over the above 2 because you do not need to poll the TestStand controls to get the status information. When the TestingComplete event occurs, TestStand will execute the Callback VI.
    I hope this helps.

  • Simple User Interface Improvement

There is one aspect of the user interface that has always slowed my productivity in LR. The scroll bars located on the far left and right of the side panels are thinner than standard scroll panels in Windows programs. When I work with the interface at my normal operating speed, I usually miss the scroll bar 50% of the time when I try and click and drag them. I thought over time this issue would go away as I got use to this irregular aspect of the LR interface, but it has not during the years I have used LR starting with version one. Since many people have wide screen displays, it seems like having a normal width scroll bar would not sacrifice that much screen real estate and would benefit those of us with hand eye coordination that falls outside what was envisioned by the LR user interface developers. Perhaps it could be an optional setting.
Of all of the user interface improvements possible in LR, this one simple change would be of the greatest benefit to my productivity.
    Thank you for considering it

Ken, I agree. In general, many of the user-interface elements of LR are fussy and non-standard in their behavior.  A couple of examples: The scroll bars don't have up and down arrows at the end, making it hard in large catalogs to scroll by one line of thumbnails using the mouse.  Scrolling the Library Filter Keywords column is particularly painful when it has a thousand keywords.
Adobe wants feedback to the product team submitted at the feedback forum:

  • Suggestion: User Interface(UI)

    Hello Everybody!
Not long ago I found a chap online who has done incredible work by reinventing the current iOS user interface making it way more easier to use.
Ha made a short but very well-presenting video for his project. It's wonderful.
I fell in love with this concept and I would like to suggest Apple to use ideas from this conception because
    it's simple
    it's just works

  • IOS 7 - User Interface - A Colour Blind Disaster

    Hello,
I have just updated my trusty iPad, which I use for just about everything to iOS 7. Unfortunaty I am colour blind and find the new user interface almost impossible to use. It is WAY too wite and I find it very difficuly to see light grey and thin blue icons on a glairing white screen. Arrrrr Why is everything so pastel coloured, there is just no contrast. Before with iOS 6 everything was crystal clear :-(
Is there any hope that iOS 7 will get an update making it possible to change the awful colour scheme? I know this may be a wonderful step forard for people with normal colour vision, but it has made my iPad next to useless. Am even thinking I should possibly move the Android, I have had an iPad since they first came out but iOS 7 has made a great device into a misery to use :-(
I have messed about with the brightness settings etc etc but just trying to use the device now frys my eyes after a few minutes. Does anyone have any suggestions other than moving to android?

I have normal vision and find the new colors also awful to use and to look at for a while.
Setting all to inverted colors might help you, I use it for longer conversations in Imessage,
but everything else looks awful then... I really hope, Apple give us some changable color
    schemes.
As skydiver told me in my thread, this here will propably not be read by Apple.
So perhaps you send it directly to Apple Feedback, too?
I did and hope if many people complain, they do something soon.
    Cheers, Monica
P.S. Sorry for my English :)

  • Inconsistent User Interface in ITMS

I just looked at the free items for this week on ITMS, and was reminded that the user interfaces for songs, albums, audio books and movies are different. Movies and audio books use one style (with a big circular "Preview" button and a small "Add Book" or "Add Movie" button to put the item in your cart) while songs use a very different style. With the "Single of the Week," the big circular button is "Get Free Download" and the small "Add Song" button is at the bottom and does the same thing as the "Get" button.
I think a more consistent layout would be much more appropriate. Letting the user click a "Preview" button on ALL ITMS items would be more useful than having this feature with only some items, and an obvious preview button would be easier for new users to catch on to than the iTunes master Play button. Likewise, using the same button for selecting all items would be more appropriate than having different buttons for different kinds of items.
(I'd also like to see a better "suggestion box" for ITMS than having to start a discussion forum topic, but I spent a lot of time looking and couldn't find anything better for this suggestion.)

Here's the link to iTunes feedback:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
It's also available directly in iTunes from menu iTunes>Provide iTunes Feedback
    Best of luck.

  • JSP Listbox  delete  user interface

I have requirement on a web application where I need to develop an user interface to show the list of itmes on the list box and allow the user to remove the items from the list box on a JSP page. The information shown on the list box is retrieved from the HTTPSession object.
I am not sure how do I capture user events on listbox on JSP. I think 'Javascript' can be used to capture the user interaction with the list box but I am not sure how do I communicate the from Java script to JSP.
I would appreciate feedback and suggestions.
    Thanks
    Nathan

All the user interaction on a JSP page is done with JavaScript.
You will use JavaScript to capture the events and manipulate
    your list box.
Communication with a JSP (or servlet) would be done by submitting
the form which contains the listbox. Example:
    <form action='yourJsp.jsp' method='post'>
    <select name='list' size='1'>
    <option value='1'>one
    <option value='2>two
    </select>
    </form>

I bought an iPod video just over a year and a half ago. Does anyone know if it is possible / likely that apple could release an upgrade to the new enhanced user interface? The latest upgrade has included the ability to search... it would be nice if they included the rest of the new OS.

Been discussed here ad infinitum, and as no-one here works for Apple we simply don't know what they may have planned.
