and please tell me how to set path to get any software available for all users
i have sun solaris 10 and sungcc compiler is already there
and i log in using root account and my current shell is : /sbin/sh
# echo $SHELL
/sbin/sh
My path is : /usr/bin:/usr/ucb:/etc:.:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/dt/bin
# echo $PATH
/usr/bin:/usr/ucb:/etc:.:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/dt/bin
and wen i type gcc i got this msg

  • Shared Services and cannot open User Directories Tree

    Hello,
I have an issue with Shared Services 931. My OpenLDAP and Shared Services will start fine. I am using TomCat as deployment of the service.
When i login as admin, i goto the User Directories and try to expand (click on the + sign) and it says loading. Then i checked the logs and i see this in there.
"Unable to get css.xml file or file maybe read only". I check the file css.xml and it is not read only. I have even configured using another Oracle Schema, but still no luck.
Has anyone seen this before ?
    Thanks,
    Azmat Bhatti

    Hi,
Have you tried rebooting you shared services server to see if it removes the lock?
What happens if you start shared services as a foreground app instead of starting it as a Windows service? Do you get further info in terms of errors?

  • Setting up user directories

Since there is no mod_edir function in Linux, I plan to do the following:
Build OES Linux A.M.P. web server, amd use the "UserDir" directive so that
    when users type
"http://example.com/~username/" they will get content out of the home
    directory of the user "username"
For now, I will have both a web and users file system on the Linux server
because I still have some apps the depend on NetWare running on our main
server, the main users home directory will be on Netware and the user web
directory will be on the Linux box. So, from the login script, I currently
    map the users home directory to H: "Netware-server\users:\home\username\";
and their web directory to W:
"Netware-server\users:\home\username\public_html" as both reside on the
Netware box. With all else being equal, the users web directory will now be
on the Linux box under OES-Linux-server\user:\username\public_html. Should
I use NSS or the Linux file system for the partitions that will hold the
user directories so that they can map to them? I am new to Linux just need
    some guidance.
Thanks in advance for your help,

Not too sure what you mean.
Have you configured your external user directories via the user management console?
Can you see the node for your external directory?
Can you provide the steps you have followed?

  • User Directories on a Non Startup Volume?

Is there a way to create or move the user directories to a non-startup volume?
What I am trying to do is to either partition my internal drive (or perhaps actually use a secondary drive) such that I have a smaller startup volume that holds ONLY my OS and applications, and then use a secondary partition or drive that holds ALL my data. There are several reasons why I would like to do this, which I won't get into at this point.
Is there a way to force the creation of the user directories onto another volume? Or is it possible to move the directories to another volume after creation and have the system look for them in the new location? I would think this should be possible because in a way OSX Server uses this scheme (over a network).

    Shahin wrote:
Have you personally done this? Can you attest to its success?
No, but I have no reason to think that it wouldn't work. I just don't like partitions.
Also any comments regarding the reply above yours warning as to possible problems with this? This can obviously be disastrous if it doe snot work. Of course I will back up before proceeding with this, but I am more concerned about ongoing and strange problems that may occur over time.
    Well, there is that
What you ask is certainly a non-standard configuration for MacOS X. However, it is also 100% valid. Apple wouldn't give you that option if they didn't intend to support it. I have no doubt you will run into odd problems where some 3rd party software (or the odd Apple installer) assumes your home directory is at /Users/whatever. It would definitely be a good idea to keep your old home directory around for a month or two.
Another option would be to just mount that other drive at /Users, after copying your home folder there, of course. You would have no problems with software because your home directory is still the default, just mounted differently. In the event of a hardware failure on either the startup or other volume, you could have some issues getting things right again. Apple does not provide any easy-to-use method for this. You have to hack around in your /etc/fstab file or maybe auto_master or auto_home. There is a little bit of black magic behind the automounter however.

  • How to "bless" user directories copied to new iMac?

The old "source" iMac wouldn't boot Target Disk Mode, so I put the new Intel iMac in Target Disk Mode, then used SuperDuper to copy the user directories from the old iMac G5 to the new Intel iMac.
How do I correctly set up the NetInfo Manager records for the ported user directories?
    Many thanks, Steve

It may depend on the history of the accounts on that machine, but as of 10.4, if you create a new account the simple way (using "System Preferences" > "Accounts") and a folder exists in "/Users" with the same short name, an option will often be presented allowing that folder to be "adopted" by the new account
    Some notes:
The process involves a 'chown -R username:username' equivalent, and the 'uid' of the folder contents will be changed to that of the new user (whose 'uid' will simply be the next available number), as opposed to the user's 'uid' being matched to the folder. So if you have some sort of complicated user:group setup for items within the user's folder, or are trying to maintain consistent 'uid' values for users across multiple machines for NFS or whatever, don't use this method.
Also, if a group already exists with the selected short name, you will not be allowed to create the account, with the message along the lines that the name isn't available.
A couple of the things you mentioned reflect how users were configured in 10.2 and earlier. There have been a few changes to the contents of user records in "NetInfo" since then so I think it would be better to let the system create the accounts rather than doing it yourself - unless there are reasons not to, like the ones mentioned above...

  • User directories hanging in shared services

    Hi,
I am installing HSS 9.3.1 on a dev box with win sever 2003. It is a VM. It installs and deploys fine. I can login to HSS. However, when I click on the user directories it justs says loading and hangs. I successfully configured eas against the install of HSS and the admin user authenticates.
I looked at the logs and there is reference to css.xml file having an unknown source. I went to the link in the log file and it all looked fine. I uninstalled hss and eas, got rid of the registry enteries and reinstalled HSS. The same thing has happened.
I have installed 9.3.1 numerous times but never seen this. Both services (olap and HSS) are started and will restart.
    Thanks,

  • Relocating user directories

I recently replaced the existing 160GB HDD in my MacBook (2008) to a 75)GB HDD and partitioned it into two- the frist 256GB partition for system and applicaation files and the second for user directories- Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Movies, etc....
How do I setup so that when I create or look for documents, pictures, Movies, etc, I am automatically directed to these directories which have now been moved into the second partition.
    Thanks
    Gautam

To do this, log into another administrative account and then go to the Users directory on your system, select your home folder, and then press Command-C to copy. Then go to the desired location on the second drive and press Shift-Option-Command-V to "paste exactly" and preserve all permissions and file structures. Authenticate if and when prompted.
When the folder is copied in its entirety, go to the Users & Groups system preferences and authenticate to make changes. Then right-click the target account and choose Advanced Options. In the panel that drops down, you should see an field for the home folder location along with a button that says "Choose." Click this button and selec the new home folder location.
After saving these settings, try logging into the account again, and it should use the new home folder location with all settings and files as they were.

I want to copy them off the current drive (along with all the other directories like Program Files, etc.), reformat the drives (which show no errors in fdisk and other tests), reinstall Windows 7 again on C: and start to reuse the computer again.

  • Configuring MSAD user directories in System 11

    All,
I've just installed System 11.1.1.2 in a test environment to get familiar with the produce. I manually configured the first provider with the Shared Services console and it works great.
My plan was to find the CSS.xml file and insert the remainder of my MSAD providers from my System 9 environment. I've run into a snag. I can find css.xml, but it doesn't list the provider I added. Are these providers stored someplace else in System 11?
    Thanks for any information.
    Keith

    Hi,
I have to revisit this because I came across another problem with the css.xml file. I was trying to use the CSSImport utility to copy my production 9.3.1 shares services data into the System 11 shared services. It imported all of the native directory stuff just fine but it errored out on anything that had a MSAD provider associated with it (users and groups).
I couldn't figure out what was wrong so I though maybe I had the wrong format. I added a MSAD user to one of my native groups and did an export to compare the format. It didn't export the MSAD user. I can see the user in SS but the shared services output log complained that it couldn't find the provider associated with the user.
I though maybe it had something to do with the default ports changing for Shared Services in System 11 (58080 is now 28080). The example property files that come in the cssimportexport.zip still have 58080 so you need to change it to 28080 for it to find shared services.
I also noticed that the property files have this entry referencing the css.xml file:
    importexport.css=file:/d:/Hyperion/deployments/Tomcat5/SharedServices9/config/CSS.xml
I went back to my version 9.3.1 css.xml file and copied the MSAD providers to the version 11 css.xml file and the import worked. Maybe there is a new entry needed in the property file to reference what is stored in the Oracle repository?
Any other ideas why I needed to add this manually.

  • Aborted system re-install, user directories vanished

My PowerBook G4 froze on me, so I rebooted using the power button. After rebooting, the finder wouldn't allow me to open any folders, etc., although I could open applications on my dock. After rebooting again and again with no success, I decided to reinstall. But my computer came with Panther and an upgrade disk to Tiger. So, I started reinstalling Panter and got an error. Now I have no system, and when I access my PowerBook with firewire, the User folders (that is my personal folders, which is everything since I'm the only user) were missing. So, I purchased DiskWarrior 4.0 and tried rebuilding the directory structure, but the User folders still are gone. Now I have about 40 GB of personal files (my old dissertation, years of family photos, etc.) gone. Any suggestions? (asides from kicking myself for not backing up these things.)

Whoo boy Dave... reinstalling Panther over Tiger likely erased a lot.
If that shouldn't work, your best bet for recovering your data is Data Rescue II...
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
This last one would require another HD with plenty of space to recover to, or if you have another Mac, put this one in FireWire target disk mode...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
And see if you can recover with Data Rescue II, but the more you use that drive now, the more info will be gone.

  • Copy To Choose Folder... stuck in user directories

I feel like this is kind of a silly question, but I've been using PC's for a long time and I really cant figure out why i'm stuck here. But when I right click and select Copy to, the default folder location is Desktop/username. There is no way to browse to anywhere else on my computer. I cannot go up a directory to My Computer and there is no explorer style side navigation bar. It used to work and my workflow is suffering. How can I reset the default location? Thanks.

The list for Bridge Copy To and Move To includes folders recently accessed by Bridge.  While not answering how to change default, one way to make your copy work would be to get your destination folder in the Bridge recent folder list: Navigate Bridge to the folder you wish to copy files into, then return to your copy from folder. Destination folder should now appear in Copy To list.
