  • Migrating database from windows to linux using dbca templates

    Hi every one,
Is it possible to migrate Oracle10g database from Windows to Linux by using DBCA templates?????????????
If yes please guide me, as i tried it and am getting error while creating database on linux using DBCA templates of Windows server.

With DBCA you can create a new database, delete a database, create ASM, and manage templates.
There's no option of migrating a database from one platform to the other. If you want to migrate your database from Windows to Linux you have 2 ways of doing it:
1 using IMP/EXP Export you db on windows and Import it on Linux.
2 Use across platform transportable tablespace if you db is already on 10g.

  • How do i create a database template from the command line?

    Hi,
As part of implementing a backup and recovery strategy for a client (including disaster recovery) I want to automate the creation of a database template From an Existing Database (Structure as well as data) via a script that will run every night.
The background to this is that we will also be using RMAN to take backups of the database concerned but the client does not want to wait while an RMAN backup is restored and so wants an additional level of insurance in the form of a ‘standby’ clone database.
The idea is that nightly we will run a script that creates a database template from the Existing Database (Structure as well as data) and then transfers the 2 files involved e.g. DB_data_included.dbc and DB_data_included.DFB across to a standby server where they can be used to recreate the database in the event of us needing to after e.g. a complete server failure.
So I have a couple of questions about this that I would be very grateful if something could answer for me:
    1)     Is it possible? That is, can a database template be created from some utility by supplying a series of parameter=value pairs on the command line?
    2)     If yes how do I go about it, what utility do I use (the emca utility?). and what parameters do I need to supply on the command line to create the template?
    3)     The intention is that the script to create the template will run in the early hours of the morning when no-one is using the database but what state does the database need to be in when the template creation script runs i.e. up, down, mounted and does the creation of a template affect the state of an already up database i.e. if I kick off the template creation script and the database is up will it switch it into mount mode or anything like that? My concern here is that I want to make sure I understand exactly what is going on so that no users or connected external systems are affected?
Thanks in anticipation of someone being able to guide me on what to do or what documentation to read.
Also if you require any clarification on what i'm asking please post up your query and i'll respond ASAP.
    Kind Regards,

    Sybrandb,
    Firstly thanks for you reponse.
However, I don’t agree that dbca only creates empty databases otherwise why does the option to create a template from an existing database (structure as well as data) exist in the dbca wizard?
I have performed a test case where I have a created a database template including data on one 10g server. I have then used the files generated to recreate that database on a separate server. When the new database is started it is an exact copy of the original. So it’s not empty at all , it’s exactly what the client wants.
So I don’t agree that I’m gaining zero.
Why is this approach doomed to fail?
There a number of reasons why I “just set up a proper standby database”
    1.     Time – I’m on a customer site in a tight engagement where the customer wants maximum value for money. I don’t have standby database skills and the customer isn’t willing to pay for me to learn on the job so please understand the tight circumstances I’m working in.
    2.     Availability – As far as I know the client is running 10.2.0.3.0 standard edition. Correct me if I’m wrong but is standby db available in that edition. Where do I look to check V$OPTION.
On the RMAN duplicating a database front it’s an area I haven’t used before but I will take a look at it.
Also please revisit the context of my original posting where I state
The background to this is that we will also be using RMAN to take backups of the database concerned but the client does not want to wait while an RMAN backup is restored and so wants an additional level of insurance in the form of a ‘standby’ clone database.
So please understand that this a quick fix that the client wants developed in the minimum time possible in ADDITION to a full nightly RMAN backup being taken.
In an ideal world I’d have the time to follow best practice but in the real world of on-site customer support I just need to get the job done operating under the customer imposed constraints.
    Many Thanks,

  • How to use a Template in reports as in Forms ?

    Goal:
I need to use reuse a common code in all of my reports.
    Current scenario:
I need to display Report title, database name and report REP file name in the header of each report. So if I change at one place it should be reflected at all he places I refer this code.
P.S. I have a table which stores report file name and title in report.
    Questions:
    1) Is there a way to know the REP file name in the report like we have in the form GET_FORM_PROPERTY ?
(Because once I know the rep file name I can search in my table to fetch the description, as I don't want
to hard-code the REP name anywhere in the code)
    2) Getting the database name is not a problem, I can always query v$database or v$instance to get the db name.
    2) Where can I put this code so that I can refer the same code in all the reports, like the way we do it in
the forms (by subclassing an object or object group from Template or a common form to individual form).
    Thanks
    Mehar

    Thanks very much. Get_Report_name works.
But I have an additional problem:
The changes I make in the template, are not getting reflected in the report based on the template i.e. There is no more reference once I make a report based on the template unlike in forms where I can "keep the path" while subclassing any object from one form to another.
Is it the default bahaviour of using the template ? Or do I need to do something else ?
    Thanks again,
    Mehar

  • RMS Installation using Retail Templates from RA

    Hi,
I have pre-installed RA 13.2.3, and now I need to install RMS 13.2.3 in the same server (64 bit environment). So, I'm thinking of installing RMS in a different database instance in the same Oracle Software. Can I use the same Retail Template from RA to create a database instance for RMS ? The template includes the following files:
    •     Retail_DB_Template_13.2.3_Linux_x86_64_Release.ctl
    •     Retail_DB_Template_13.2.3_Linux_x86_64_Release.dbc
    •     Retail_DB_Template_13.2.3_Linux_x86_64_Release.dfb
    •     Retail_DB_Template_13.2.3_Linux_x86_64_Release_variables.txt
I tried using the template files from RMS, but the database instance installation fails. It goes on fine with template from RA, but I face problems with required patches installation during RMS Schema Creation phase. Can I or can't I use Retail Database Creation Templates from RA to create RMS database instance ?

    Thanks ErikYkema,
Yes, RA means Retail Analytics. Installation Guide says "if you have these files already present, then you can continue with those". It would suggest that for database installation of all Retail Family, the same template would work if they have the same file names. I wouldn't have risked using the same template, but using the template from RMS throws me error, while the one with RA runs smoothly. So, I wanted to confirm. Thanks for your reply :)

  • OVM - using JDE Templates

    Hello,
I'm new with OVM and starting to work with JDE's E1 templates. I would like to start by using the database template. I have the database .img file extracted and ready to go in the running_pool directory. The next steps are to launch the script that will start creating the database VM.
Question: How do I determine the Hard drive allocation I want to have for this particular database ?
I only see an option to allocate memory and cpu in the RAM but no reference is made as to how large the VM will be, in terms of hard drive space.
What parameter(s) determine that when using such templates ?
    Thank you
    E1cnc

I've still not found my info.
Can anyone please share some basic info regarding installing these templates. In installing E1 templates, is it recommended to follow the command line process as stated in the Quick Installation Guide or use the gui console ?

  • Templates - how to tell what target is using what template

Trying to figure out who or what target is using what monitoring template? Anyone can suggest a way? Are only groups use monitoring templates?
    Thanks
    Roman

    Hi,
As far as i know, you can find out this. Monitoring template is a template which you create and then apply to targets (so that you avoid setting metrics for individual targets one by one). You can apply a template on a single database or on a group by adding all databases in a group. Once you apply template, template metric thresholds will be set for that target based on the template and still you can modify certain metrics for this target. So it means that on a single target you can have metric set through template and also set manually thus it is not possible to find out what was implemented through template and what was done manually.

  • DBCA and database template problem

I'm using Oracl 9.2.0.1.0 on WinXP SP2 and after creating
database template from existing database (structure and data) on the same computer I cannot clone it with DBCA because of finish button not working.

  • Re: Oracle Database Template

I have the same issue. I have a database template created in 11.2.0.2.0 and I need this template to use in 11.2.0.3.0. I was wondering if I need to install 11.2.0.2.0 and then upgrade it to 11.2.0.3.0 to be able to use the template. I am not sure if there is a more efficient way of doing it. Is there a better way of migrating templates created in an earlier version of Oracle?

  • Database Template Issue

    Hello,
Wondered if anyone knew what's gone wrong with the Oracle templates.
A database was created during the Oracle installation which is fine. We created a second test database using the 'General Purpose' template. It too is working fine. We wanted to create a template for further similar database's and went thorugh the motions of creation it again through the DBCA using the same template. This went okay and the template was created, but we realised we had one or two file location settings wrong.
    So we deleted the template and began creating a new database. This time when it came to screen 4 of 8 'Template Datafile Location', it states the relevant template does not exist, with the message in the dialog box;
    {ORACLE_HOME}\assistants\dbca\templates\Data_Warehouse.dfj
We have tried selecting a template in a new location or even simply accepting the message and carrying on the database creation but it always fails.
    Doeas anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you

    David,
DBCA creates a clone of the source via the template and then renames that clone to whatever name you give. That's how the Seed database gets created which is created at the time of the installation. As suggested, check the template to see what's in there. I can't seem to recall why the user accounts are locked though. In the default database template, if it happens, its okay. But can't be sure why the same happened for your db also? Again, the answer I think is within the template only.

  • Migrating SP 2007 site which is using the template Project Workspace (Id 6215) to SP 2013

    Hi,
We have our SharePoint 2007 with project server installed on it. It is only one server having all of the components including SQL server and SP 2007. We are planning to migrate one of the site which is using the
Project Workspace Template(Id 6215)  to the SP 2013 environment using Database
    Attach Method.
    Questions:
    1) Is there any workaround available we can migrate the site to SP 2013 without
    installing project server?
    2) If there is no other workaround, we may need the justification or supports articles to share with our management.
Looking forward to hearing from you guys.
    Regards,
    Zulfiqar

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when you tested the database.
I recommend to check if the site template exists in the folder located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\1033\XML.
If yes, then restart the SharePoint machine and run the PowerShell command Test-SPContentDatabase again.
If not, please re-install the template to see if the issue still occurs.
If the sites with issue are no longer needed, then you can delete the sites with issue. Or you can
rename the site template with a standard template id.

  • Use web template to open a report from a menu

    Hi all,
I have created one web template where I have a role menu that shows all reports that are available to the user. When the user clicks on one of these reports, the report displays in a new window. So far everything is working fine.
But, I have also created another web template and I want the report that is displayed in a new window to use this template. How do I do this? I have been looking at the settings for the Role menu, but can't find anywhere to put the template name...
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks and regards,
    Tove-Mette

    Hello,
yes you can use the publish function, but only to add new entries.
In Transaction pfcg (not in WAD or BEx) in SAP GUI and then select your role at the tab "Menu" you can add/remove/maintain/organize your menu.
just click on a menu entry and take sth.like edit.
Then you will see a link if you didn#t find the string &template_id= the system will take the standard template (Tranaction spro), and you can easily add or change this parameter.
Hope that helps, please ask if you need further explanation.
    Regards
