Using Fingerprint reader with Apex 4.2

I need help with integrating Fingerprint reader with Apex App 4.2. I want to store the fingerprint data in the database (blob column ) and be able to match the stored data with new scanned data.

This will be hard, you will not be able to do it purely through the web browser;
Either make an Active X control to install on the client, or write a small client which shares a cookie or similar to upload the data from. Both ways require interfacing with the actual hardware device and sending the data to the back end process.
Here is an open source matcher and analyser (with a list of supported hardware). APEX will not help you here, this will be hard work.

I would *seriously* consider something like QR codes instead to eliminate 'duplicates'.
1. register name and password to 'vote'
2. you are sent a unique QR code to your phone/email/normal mail (your vote)
3. you present the QR code to the voting process via a camera and vote.
4. The QR code cannot be reused.
Web QR is a typical example of this, and works, right now. And wouldn't be too hard to integrate with APEX. There are many examples of generating QR codes on the web, including javascript and even APEX if you dig hard enough.
Honestly, use QR codes. It will make your project more fun and with a *much higher* chance of success.

Adobe has just released an update to Adobe Reader, so if you're accessing the service via Reader, please let us know whether the update helps resolve the issue.

Anyone used PL/FLOW with APEX in Oracle 11g?

I'm trying to find out if any of you have successfully used SourceForge's PL/FLOW with APEX in an 11g environment. References to PL/FLOW seem to be limited to 9i and I need to have some assurance that it would be compatible in a more updated setting.

I've used it in a 10g DB without any problems, I have no reason to suspect (without trying it) that it wouldn't work in 11g.

I can't use fingerprint reader on Windows 7

I'm going into Control Panel > Biometric devices, I choose a finger to enroll and then I get a notice :"Truesuite.FPR has stopped working."
Anyone else run into this one yet? What can I do to use Fingerprint?

Have you tried running the uninstaller built into the temp folder for the B209? Try the steps listed below.
1. Run disk cleanup on your computer
2. Download and run the software and drivers below.

Drivers assistance required for graphics card and fingerprint reader with W8 & Pavilion DV7-6B01ED

Hi - I own a HP Pavilion DV7-6B01ED and recently upgraded from W7 Home Premium to W8 Pro. Everything appeared to work fine except for the graphics card I have which now seems to always be on with the fan running, getting hot and running down the battery much more than before. I can not confirm what was reported as the graphics card in W7, but it is reported as the AMD 7000M after the upgrade. My invoice reports that it is a HD6490. Further to this, W8 reported an issue with this device in Device Manager.
Due to another issue (not hardware related) I decided to do a clean install of W8 which would also let me clean things up and to re-partition my disk.
In doing so I deleted the HP_TOOLS and the Recovery partitions. I'm not against recreating these but needed to delete them as I had 4 primary partitions and could not work within the restriction that comes with this. I understood from reading online that these can be recreated and the necessary tools re-installed (or another solution with DVD / USB employed). If the solution to my problems requires these to be installed, I'm happy to do so.
After the clean install, I continue to have the graphics card issue (same details as above) and the other issue I have is with the fingerprint reader. It shows up as an unknown device after W8 install (it did not have any issues after the initial upgrade I performed though).
So I've done plenty of things to try to rectify the issue and this includes installing the HP Support Assistant in the hope that this would help with the drivers. Instead of going through all the steps I've undertaken (I've read plenty in this HP forum and outside of the forum) and used certain W7 drivers, installed this that or the other program but unfortunately to no avail. I cannot get the fingerprint reader working and I still have a very hot and noisy laptop.
I'm good enough with OS and device driver installations and happy to get stuck into some unorthodox solutions if needs be. What can I do to resolve these issues?
Regarding the graphics card - is it a case that AMD have yet to release an updated driver? If so, I can live with that but in the meantime I would like to turn off the AMD card and work only with the integrated Intel graphics. Disabling the device in Device Manager does not seem to work. How do I do that?
The fingerprint reader is no big deal, but ideally I would like it working. What to do here?
If I need to do a re-install of W8 again and then get stuck into the driver installations I'm good with that, but would like to do it in a manner that will let me resolve these issues in the future without too much hassle.
The spec of my machine is: HP DV7-6B01ED 17.3FHD / i5-2430 / 8GB / 750GB HDD / HD6490

OK, so I thought the AMD driver worked. I had installed it before I posted to the forum but then the problem seemed to have returned. I'll have to play with the settings because just as I type this the fan has started for no reason, same problem as before. Is there any chance Windows Updates in interfering?
Regarding the fingerprint reader - it hasn't helped. In Device Manager I now see Biometric Devices > Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0018). Is there some further software I require in order to use the device. I'm going to install SimplePass to see if that's needed.

How to use acrobat reader with win7 x64?

I downloaded the acrobat reader, installed v 9.2 for x64 as recommended on adobe web site. After the install, all my icons had changed to adobe and when I tried to run any other program the system gave me an error and thought it was running adobe and looked for the Eula file. Does anyone have success story using reader with win7 home with 64 bit system. My computer is a new lenovo t400.

Using Oracle Text with Apex

Can someone point me to some resources on how to integrate Oracle Text and APEX to do searches, highlight results, etc (all the features of Oracle Text)?
The data to be indexed is in files on the filesystem, so I would like to keep it that way and use the FILE_DATASTORE option for Text.

but the search results there just returns the URL/file containing the "hit". It doesn't show the actual text fragment that caused the match, doesn't highlight it, etc. I am looking for a real Google-like search. Hm, having said that, I might as well use Google Desktop! This is a very simple application for my own use. It started life in 8i when there were fewer Text options.
As such, it uses the query string as entered. This returns all of the matches:

Using JS file with APEX

I can't seem to be able to successfully link a JS file to an APEX template or page. I have followed the directions but but have had no luck. I have uploaded the JS file through "Shared Components>Static Files>Create" and have added "<script src=”#APP_IMAGES#custom.js” type=”text/javascript”></script>" to the HTML Header. I have also tried #WORKSPACE_IMAGES#, and #IMAGE_PREFIX# in place of #APP_IMAGES and still no luck. I have even tried a direct path " <script src="http://myserver.myport/my_images/custom.js"
type="text/javascript"></script> " but this did not even work. The only thing that does work is to put the JavaScript directly into the Header of the page.
Please suggest what else I could try.

Finally solved this problem!!
What was happened (in my case):
- We had 4 different applications, all having their own copy of the Javascript having the same file name.
- Apex Builder failed to manage them separately (see other thread).
- Removed all copies and uploaded a global workspace version.
- Only the last application that had removed its own copy now worked with the global version??
- Joel's test (see above) pointed out some access problems: 'Access Denied'
- Removed the Javascript form Static Files (no files left).
- Uploaded the Javascript under Cascading Style Sheets.
- Still got 'Access Denied' in test.
- Replaced the Javascript using a different file name.
- OK, that worked.
- Moved the Javascript back to the Static Files
- OK, it keeps working.
- Replaced the Javascript using its original file name.
- OK, it now works as it expected to work in the initial set up?!?!
So it seems that Apex Builder has problems in its administration when maintaining metadata and content of Static Files.
The file should be completely removed, before you can reintroduce it with different metadata.
NOTE: some problems do NOT occur when applications are run in Apex Builder!
Hope this can be reproduced by the Apex team for fixing it.

Using screen reader with check boxes.

Hello All,
I have a check box on a form. Upon tabbing to the check box the custom text is read by the screen reader. The custom text provides an explanation of the field as well as the current state (unchecked). Is there a way to have the screen reader announce the state of the check box upon changing from unchecked to checked?
If this required scripting or the use of alternate text, an example or explanation would be greatly appreciated.

You should be careful about providing too much information in the CSRT, I usually recommend that people just rely on the caption text for checkboxes -- if the information is sufficient for sighted users, then in combination with the information provided to the assistive technology via our accessibility API in Adobe Reader the information should be sufficient for non-sighted users.
For example, if you have a checkbox that has a caption that is "Please send me information about new offers", that would be fine for screen reader users because when they land on the checkbox they will hear "please send me information about new offers, checkbox checked" and if they uncheck it (you can assume that how to toggle a checkbox is common knowledge so don't need to convey this information) they will hear "Unchecked". If the user tabs away and tabs back they will hear the full explanation again, except with the changed state reported.
It is tempting to overdo it, but for most checkboxes all you need to do is make sure that the screen reader precedence is set to "Caption" and move on.

I have downloaded Adobe Reader 7.0.8 several times in order to read eBooks on my G4 12"iBook using OS 10.4.7. I activated the Adobe program as directed but continue to get an error message when attempting to use the application. The message indicates that...
Could not create an EDB database: Unable to load the specified database dynamic link library.
I've sent Adobe Reader 7.0.8 to the trash and reinstalled the program from the Adobe site several times thinking that something is missing from the download; I still get the error message. Amazingly I did the same process on my iMac G5 desktop and everything works fine; the book shows up! I've posted the problem on Adobe forums for Reader but no help came back.

call the same smartform(Function generated from smartform) in your bsp application, get the otf outof it, convert that to pdf and show it. follow your previous thread and check the blog mentioned there.
