Using mouse to operate controls while not looking.

We are using LabView to control an electron gun power supply. We need to view the spot on a phosphor screen while operating the controls. It is very difficult to keep the mouse on the up/down arrows, when not looking at the front panel. It would be nice if we didn't need to point the mouse at anything in particular, rather could move it right/left or up/down. Ideally, we'd click on the parameter to be controlled, then have it start at the current value with mouse movements changing the value about that starting point.

Interesting. If you are going with a screen control and mouse, you can
take the slider into the control editor, grow the thumb horizontally,
shrink it vertically, and then shrink the housing, the background behind
the thumb. This tinkering will make it harder for the slide to jump
around when initially clicked on. You will need to hit the thumb, but
that should have very little bump.
Another approach is to use a real pot or HW knob. A couple years ago I
was play
ing with iMovie and purchased a USB knob. By setting the
increment, min and max for a numeric, and configuring the knob to
produce up and down arrow keys, you can tab to the appropriate numeric,
then turn the knob. It is easy to set the knob to set the rate of the
keys sent, so you can also use the spring loaded lower ring to do a
constant velocity increment, turn the ring farther, and increment
faster, release and stop.
These knobs are not very expensive and can be found on the web. Mine
was from a company called Contour, not sure what their name is now.
A similar approach would be to use a USB joystick. There are some
joystick VIs on devzone I think.

Hi! I'd like to use a user specified value to terminate my while loop. For example, acquire for 3 seconds as opposed to acquiring until the user hits the 'stop' button. I've attatchted my code and would appriciate if you could give me some suggestions.

Replace "Wait Until Next ms Multiple" with Timeout.vi. The example shows how to use this vi.
Because the duration is given by software, it will not be very accurate. Anyway, it can not be more accurate then the cycle time. If you reduce the cycle time in order to get a better precision, then the CPU usage will increase.
If you need a higher precision, then it will be necessary to use a hardware timing. This can easily be done be using an additional counter that is configured to generate a pulse on its output. This pulse is then used to gate the 3 other counters. This allows a very high and repetitive precision (period of the internal timebase of the counter)!

Voice control does not kick in place of SIRI when there is no internet connection

i have an iPhone 4s. i mainly use WIFI at both home and work. and am quite happy with SIRI. but when i leave home for work or am on my way back home after work quite often i press and hold the volume button to give voice command to call my wife. but SIRI does not work!
well, because SIRI needs internet connection and i dont bother using mobile internet (cause then i will need to turn on 3G which drains my battery like nothing on earth) it can not work.
but why does not my ordinary voice control kick in? since 4S is such a great gadget and is so smart in every way (apart from the pictures taken with the volume button could not be turned to adjust orientation in windows!) i was expecting this would be a normal thing to expect from it.
anyways, hope someday they would fix this.

I'm assuming you can either use Siri or Voice Control, but not both. I think if you turn Siri on the activation used to use Siri is removed from Voice Control and vice versa. This is just my own theory. Maybe a future software update might allow this.

Control does not stay in case structure while using motion VIs

I have a motion control card PCI 7344 connected to my PC. I am able to control the motor at the required speed till the required position using an encoder. Now I have put my motion control VIs in a case structure in such a way that, if Case1 is selected then the motor should to position P at speed S, if case 2 is selected then the motor should move to position Q at speed S and if case3 is selected then the motor should to position R at speed S. I am selecting cases 1,2,3 etc. by scanning a set of numbers seperated by spaces which look like this,
1 2 5 7 3
This number scanning is done using a while loop. Now, when the first number is scanned in the above set of numbers. The number 1 is obtained and the control is switched to case1. But before the motor reaches position P, the control switches to case2 and before completing the execution, the program scans case5 and so on. That means that the control does not stay till the move in the case 1 is completed. I'm sure there must be a way to retain the control to a case and stop the next number to be scanned before the functions in the particular are completely executed. I thought of one method, i.e. by using the move complete VI provided in LabVIEW, but I could not implement it. Please help me out with this.

Hi,
Our motion controllers allow you to preemptively start a move in the middle of a current move. For example if you are moving from point A to B and based on some logic, you determine you need to immediately start moving to point C. A preemptive move allows you to just load the new target position and call start. You do NOT have to first stop the current move and then start the new move.
In your case, you want the first move to complete before the second move starts. There are two ways to handle this. First, wait for the move to complete via a Wait For Move Complete function/VI call, or use the Check For Move Complete function/VI in a loop. Second, use Blend Start instead of the regular start. A Blend Start (if blend factor is set to 0) waits for the first move to complete before the second move starts.

I'm looking for a possibility to use the iPad for photography while traveling, without the access to a computer.
Shooting photo's in RAW format crates pretty big files that will fill up the iPad's memory pretty fast if you shoot a lot during a (let's say) month long trip.
my idea was to use load the photo's to the iPad so i could view them and sort out any bad ones. then copy them over to the storage device so i can continue using my CF cards for shooting. I have an image thank for copying the photo's directly to the HDD but it would be so sweet to be able to check them on the iPad before hand.
any suggestions?

I managed to restart it but kept getting a message come up on one ot the dual screens ' restart using the power swich to turn it off , then press it again to restart.'
This worked okay , but now it just keeps freezing whenever I start it up. I thought the issue could be my old Epson Expression 1680 scanner not being compatible , so I have unplugged it. I also had a look at the new memory I installed when I got it, but this seems not be the problem.
It is connected up to an Eizo Flexscan S2231W using a cable straight into the HDMI input , the other monitor is a small Acer using the VGA into Thunderbolt port.
When I turn the Eizo screen on first and then press the power button on the mac-mini, I hear the chime then the screen flahes the 'Digital no signal' message on and off for about 30 seconds , then the monitor comes on as normal. But it is still freezing up on me after using it for a while and I am having to use the power switch button to turn it off again.
Can anyone help please.

I really don't have an answer for that one. I guess that while trying to get things working correctly, I would use the most basic monitor I had which in your case would be the Eizon using the Thunderbolt port and adaptor.
When you boot into Safe Mode the startup is quite slow, but you should get the Apple logo and then the spinning gear below it (release the SHIFT key when it appears.) Then after a little more time you should see a gray progress bar appear below the spinning gear. When that disappears the computer will startup to a login screen.

Is it possible to delete a plot with using mouse to select it on the graph control?

For example, when I use PlotLine to plot thousands of lines on the graph control, I want to delete some of them, but there is thousands of plotHandle generated.
How can I get the plotHandle of the specific line on the graph control with using mouse to select it?
If I record information of the lines, ex. the plotHandle and the coordinates, on a table or list, etc. , I have to compare the information of lines to get the plotHandle of the specific line.
Is there any user-friendly way to delete a plot by select it on the graph control?

Sure! Look at the example located in \samples\userint\graphcursors for an example of how to accomplish this task.
Briefly:
The cursor must be in "Snap to point" mode
(To be confirmed) The graph must be in "Retain" data mode
You must have a callback for the graph control
You can use GetGraphCursorIndex to retrieve the plot handle
GetGrpahCursor retrieves values of cursor position in engineering units

People who have Photoshop, but don't have Lightroom, need ACR so that they can use Raw files. Without ACR they could do nothing with those (they may also like having ACR so that they can work on other kinds of image using the same kinds of adjustments and techniques, as are used with Raw files).
People who have Lightroom, can get access to Raw files regardless whether ACR is present or not. They can use Lightroom on other kinds of image also, using the same methods. LR can pass images directly into Photoshop without passing via ACR (or else does so transparently, which amounts to substantially the same thing).
ACR does not, strictly speaking, even need to be installed for this external editing to happen. In fact, not even PS needs to be - since a different image editor can be used instead, while still retaining the Adobe Raw conversion etc.
Lightroom "subcontracts out" specialised external tasks, in this workflow, but is still your "main contractor": the image is otherwise located, viewed, managed, adjusted/presented and output entirely using LR.
So IMO we can divide image processing into:
operations that involve pixels and layers and layer masks and adjustment layers etc (of the kind done inside Photoshop)
operations that involve parametric edits (of the kind done in ACR where you are not using a Lightroom based workflow; otherwise, done inside Lightroom)
When PS is called in, that's because those tasks are impossible or unsuitable to do in Lightroom. But those tasks can't be done in ACR either - by definition, since LR and ACR have exactly the same image processing "feature set".
Lightroom is irrelevant to the Bridge + ACR + PS workflow. This workflow requires both your PS and your ACR to be current enough, to support your Raw format etc.
ACR and Bridge are irrelevant to the LR + (image editor) workflow. It is in this case, only LR which needs to be current enough to support your Raw format etc.

How to Reset Password of User while not connected to the Domain using Local Admin Account
(I have the use of a local admin account), and I want to help a user reset their password who has logged in the PC and had their credentials cached, but forgot this password.
In Local Admin Account :
When I go to Control Panel, users, users, manager user ; I cannot see any users in this window except the local admin account, and, so I cannot reset a user password this way.
When I go to lusrmgr.msc, then users ; the local admin account will display only.
If I go to command prompt and type "net user", this will not display any users who have logged in to the computer, and so I cannot use "net user" to reset a password.
I don't want to use any disks, 3rd party programs, or create a VPN connection to the domain. I just want to help a user who calls in and forgets their password.

I know this is an old thread but I'm trying to better understand how I could change the domain password while not on the network. What I'm getting from your post is that you:
1. Create a local user account (not a domain user)
2. Login with that local user account
3. Connect to the VPN while logged in as a local user
4. Log out of the local account and login with the domain credentials
Now, my question is based on the assumption that the password created on the local account is the same password that one will use to login to the domain account? Also, is the local user account the same as the domain account?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

Dynpro controls not looking properly on portals

I published web dynpro i-views on the portals but few of its controls (drop-down list, date fields) are not getting displayed properly. While I run the i-view page independently its getting properly displayed but when I link those i-views to portals its creating this problem (I am using J2EE engine of portals while developing i-views).

Try using the fully qualified domain name of the portal server. For example, use http://<portal server>.<domain>.com:<port>/irj instead of http://<portal server>:<port>/irj.

You don't say what version you are using, but LV6.1 added remote control
of panels.
If already using LV6.1, look it up in the help and try out the examples.

My brand-new iPod touch (5th Gen) battery takes a very long time to fully charge, even while not in use. Why is this and what should I do?

Just recently bought a brand-new iPod touch, 5th generation. To be exact, got it two days ago, this past Saturday, on 12/13/2014. Initially, when I first turned it on, it had a fully charge and I didn't need to charge it. I also didn't see anything in the very small and limited start-up guide you receive with it to charge it for a certain amount of time before use, or to use it until the battery dies, then charge all the way, like a lot of electronic devices have you do when you first purchase them.
So I was assuming I didn't need to do anything like that. First question, should I have charged it for a period of time before use? Should I have used it until the battery died, then plugged it in and charged it fully before use? Or is none of this necessary initially and iPod batteries are good to go from the start?
Please excuse me if this is an obvious question, as this is my first ever iPod. Anyways,like I said, nothing in the "instructions" said anything about that, so I didn't do it, I just used it until it got below 20% battery left, then I plugged it in.
Now for the battery itself, it takes literally a day or so to fully charge, even while not in use. Even if I use it for a while, turn off the iPod to make sure it shuts off all background data and apps, and then plug it in to charge, it still charges extremely slowly. I've never seen a device take this long to charge. As for the battery life itself, I'd say at full charge it lasts about 4-5 hrs, maybe 6, and then I have to charge it again. Meanwhile it takes around 24 hours, without me using it, to fully charge. If I use it while its charging, the battery decreases faster than it charges, and eventually I'll get the typical "20% battery remaining" message pop up.
I know it is charging, as the lightning symbol is next to the battery symbol. Specifically, right now, I plugged it in about 1 hr 30 minutes ago, and it has barely gone up. Also, whenever I press the home button to check the battery, I can see it jump down from about 50% to somewhere around 25%-30%. What is that about?
This is really frustrating, and I'm seriously contemplating either taking it back and trying my luck with a different iPod, or just taking it back and getting my money back. Any help and clarification on this matter would be greatly appreciated, and I'll answer any questions I can to shed more light on this.

You can do that with tabs, but not with windows AFAIK.

Several ways to get similar results. Image > Adjustments > Posturize with low values similar to what you'd use n Cutout. This is the most flexible way I can think of as you keep the image in RGB mode with layers intact. A more radical approach would be to reduce bit depth using Indexed Colour. You'll need to experiment with settings, try changing Forced to Primaries, and Matte to Foreground Color. There's no going back from this route, although you can change the mode back to RGB to re-enable layers, adjustment layers etc.
A nice thing about the Filter gallery filters is that you can change the layer to a Smart object with all the control that gives you.
Now if only this forum could filter out bizarre content.
