Using WLI with Portal

Hi!
Is anyone using BEA portal for user authentication and personalization along with
Integration for workflow??? Looking at the two sets of examples and full functionality
of wli it appears that the two should be easily tied together... Any thoughts
or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Using ESS with Portal 7.0 and backend ECC 5.0. Why not?

I have this landscape:
server A: Portal 7.0 in WAS 7.0 (2004s) with BP ESS and XSS components
server B: backend ECC 5.0 with EA-HR SP38.
But I am having problems to run some ESS webdynpro iViews (specially personnel info);
According this note: 1007341; this landscape is not supported because is necessary use a separate instance of WAS 6.40 in order to run XSS components.
Why??? Which is the technical reason that I cannot use the j2ee stack from EP 7.0? SAP information about this is so confusing.
if this is impossible to realize, I can use this alternative?:
server A: Portal 7.0 in WAS 7.0 (2004s) with BP ESS
server B: backend ECC 5.0 with EA-HR SP38 and XSS componentes (dual mode stack abap and java both of them 6.40)
As per note 1007341, I need use a third server or I am confusing?. Already having a server which runs E¨P frontend, and other server where it runs the ECC, technically I am not understanding why I need a third server with a older java version than I have in frontend.
This is not supported by a specifically problem? Or can I do if I have a problem and I can fix it with some patch?
Anybody has experiencie using this scheme: Portal 7.0 agains ECC 5.0 for use BP ESS/MSS?

Ok, its true.
My intention is to confirm if is possible install a Java instance in the same server that ECC is running with Abap instance.
My confusion is because note 1007341, in "deviations" part, says:
ECC 5.0 (ERP 2004 back-end system),
XSS 500 on a separate J2EE 6.40, EP NW04s
with business packages ESS and MSS (SAP ERP 2004).
The SAP system only supports this system landscape
if you have installed XSS 500 on a separate J2EE 6.40.
Then, would I install abap stack, and java stack as separate instances (not add-in!) ? and this landscape is supported acordding this note?
(in the example, A and C are in the same server)

Using Workshop with portal on a different machine

I am using the workshop on my local machine and I have one portal which is
installed on a machine which is in the same network (linux). Can anyone
please help me, how I can use the workshop with the portal on a different
server? I only managed to get it working on my local machine.

Michael,
The easist (but probably not the best) option is to create an ear file, and deploy
it to the linux server.
I believe it would also be possible to create an nfs-style mount between your
linux server and your workshop PC, then change the references in workshop to the
new directory structure and server IP address/port number.
I think this should work.
Ie; Create your nfs mount from your linux svr to say on g:\ (workshop pc)
Then create your application in workshop, save it to the g:\ drive,
Change your app settings to access the server on the linux svrs' IP /port, user/password
Hit Deploy app, or preview a page.
With a little bit of fiddling/luck you should be able to get this running.

Servlet forward not working with portal and oc4j

Scenario: page1.jsp, page2.jsp, MyServlet
Page1.jsp posts a form to MyServlet which then does some processing and forwards to page2.jsp.
Tests:
Works fine as a standalone app under oc4j.
Does not work as oc4j-driven portlet under latest portal. Specifically, it conks out on the forward.
Question:
Why?
What is the suggested workaround?

James, thanks for responding but you are misunderstanding the problem. I have been able to do multipage and form-submit portlets as you describe for a long time. The issue is I am not able to use the jsp-forward directive within a validation servlet when using oc4j with portal. Here is what I'm trying to do in pseudocode:
EntryPoint.jsp
1. Enter form data.
2. Submit form to MyServlet.
MyServlet
1. Validate form.
2. If valid, <jsp-forward page="success.jsp"/>.
3. Else, <jsp-forward page="failure.jsp"/>.
The above works fine when used in an app running on oc4j outside of portal. It does not work when the same oc4j app is portletized. By the way, the portletized app WILL work if I change jsp-forward to jsp-include. So the problem is obviously in the forwarding.

I would try looking at the samples in the PDK-Java V2 that show how to do form input and multipage behavior. The form input shows you how to make a form in a portlet that when you submit it, the entered values appear in the portlet. The multipage portlet shows you how to have a portlet display one page and then when you click on a link, it shows you the second page.
It may make sense to copy the same code used for the samples and just tweak it to create a form that passes values from page1 to page2.

I am using ajax in both sp3 and sp5. I haven't followed any standard framework. I have written a servlet to handle ajax requests more like

to do this you need not add any extra library to portal.

Hi,
from a functionality point of view, standalone and portal usage of SAP Portfolio and Project Management 5.0 are the same (except functionality which is in general only available within a portal, e.g. KM documents, collaboration rooms, etc.).
From a TCO perspective, for the standalone usage you'll only need the ABAP stack (except for ADS), i.e. if you don't anyway already have a portal in use in your company, this could lead to a lower TCO.

We would like to use some third party Rich Text editor with portal as the Oracle Rich Text editor is fairly basic and it does not fulfill our business requirements.
Some of the things we are hoping to accomplish by through this text editor (after customizing) are:
Ability to select any page within the portal to add as link in the Text Editor.
Ability to select images from the portal repository.
Create HTML Tables.
Support of copy/paste from Microsoft Word.
I am looking for any suggestions or experiences on how this can be done.

To use ADF with WLP 10.3.2 you will need a WebCenter WSRP producer running the portlet, which you can then consume as a remote portlet in WLP. The documentation on how to do that is here:

Can ASP with ODBC be used with Portal??

I have seen many clients develop active server pages using Frontpage or Dreamweaver hitting Oracle through ODBC (also JDBC). I know you can apply FP and Dream Weaver extensions to Apache. Can this be used with Portal to prevent re-coding existing applications or to stay with their present development plans?

Yes, you can expose any existing application environment through the portal. The fastest way to do it is to use the URL Services in the PDK to include application functionality as portlets by specifying the url. There are some restrictions with this approach. See the PDK for details. You can also code new portlets in Java that take advantage of the "External Applications Provider" capability to connect your portlets to an existing application in a single sign on way. Again, the PDK is the best source of information on this.

Using J2EE agent with Portal 7

I'm trying to use a J2EE policy agent 2.2 for Application server 8.2 with portal, protecting /portal URL. However, after it prompts me to log in, the policies are not enforced. It works with the agentapp, but not with Portal when the AMagent filter is introduced.
Does anyone know why portal application ignores policies in access manager or where to get the documentation on how to properly troubleshoot this?

Hi Israel,
It is possible to have same user logged in through differnt terminals or browser windows. However if there are say 10 roles assigned to that user, all 10 will be visible in all the windows. However you may open and work on different roles.. in the different windows.
Note that the real time collaboration features shall not be available if the same user logs in multiple times.
