Verifying LNF is supported

I'm having some trouble finding someone knowledgeable on my particular issue. I have the classname of a default installed look and feel (e.g. Windows Look and Feel), and I would like to verify whether or not the look and feel would be supported on the current OS (e.g. Linux which should say that it is not supported) BEFORE setting that look and feel using UIManager.setLookAndFeel(). Has anyone worked with this before?
I have looked at MultiLookAndFeel, because it has a isSupportedLookAndFeel method. However, as far as I can see, you cannot specify a LNF, with the classname, to check without loading it as the current one. Does that sound accurate?
I am also aware that if you try to load an unsupported LNF, it will throw an exception to notify you. At which point you can reset the cross platform look and feel within the catch statement. Unfortunately, this method doesn't fit the needs of my program.
Even any pointers to docs or websites to check out would be greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,
Daniel Walsh

The two questions you are asking are different. The stanalone version of OC4J is pure Java and is available to be run on a J2SE 1.3.1 JVM. Oracle9i Application Server Release 2 is a product which integrates a lot of native applications as well as Java so is platform dependant. It should be available soon on AIX.

  • How to verify maximum resolution supported by G62 laptop HDMI

Hi, I have a HP G62-b50sa laptop and am looking at purchasing a large monitor to use alongside it. The laptop has an Intel Graphics card (shared memory) and a HDMI output port. Looking at the manual, it mentions that the HDMI out supports 1080p, which is 1920x1080 resolution. However, the monitor I'm keen on is the Dell U2415h, which has a native resolution of 1920x1200 (HDMI input). Is there anyway I can confirm if the laptop will support this resolution via HDMI? I've searched about but haven't seen anything conclusive. The other option is a Dell U2414h, which is 1920x1080. But I'm not so keen on the 16:9 monitors so would prefer the extra screen height  Thanks in advance.AP

    AJ,
"I have an HDMI I can use for my PowerBook which has a resolution of 1440 X 900. When I connect to the PowerMac, I get a message stating that I need to reset my display resolution."
Since you have the second monitor working with your PowerBook, that is the way to test your options.  Go to System Preferences under the Apple menu.  Select Displays.  Then click on detect displays.
You can change the resolution and frequency from the list.  Set the monitor resolution to something like 1024 x 758 75 Hz.  Then connect the monitor to to the G4.  Once it is working on the G4, make further adjustments there.
Start with 1024 and work up the resoultion options.  As a general rule for frequency, select a lower number for the Hz and then work up until the display does not work.  Then go back down one value or speed.
You should get a message to let you revert back to the last setting so a new setting that does not work does not become your default.  By the way, it is easier to set resolutions with two monitors connected.  If you have the option of a second video card or VGA out, use that to configure the second monitor.
    Jim~
PS.  Here is additional information on the card:

Note that the card does not provide VGA signals through the DVI port.

  • Disk utility verify drive error

When I run disk utility I receive the following error. In reading previous posts I discoverd that I needed to use the OSX install disk. So I get it showing in the utilities window on the left side and attempt to get disk utility running by following this path on the disk -- Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Double clicking disk utility has no result.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The error when running verify disk from disk utility on the iMac:
    Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
    Checking HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Invalid node structure
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair

As Doug has said, & indeed you have tried....you need to run diskutility from the OS install disk. Or more accurately, you need to run diskutility when booted from the install disk.
The following ( from diskutility help) should explain it clearly.
Start up your computer using another disk.
To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc and restart your computer holding down the Option key, then select the Install Mac OS X disc and click the arrow.
    Open Disk Utility.
If you're using the Mac OS X Install disk, follow the onscreen instructions until the menu bar appears with the Utilities menu in it., and then choose Utilities > Open Disk Utility.
Select the startup disk in the list of disks and volumes, then click First Aid.
Check the S.M.A.R.T. Status at the bottom of the window. If you can't see it, be sure you selected the hard disk your volume is on, and not the volume itself.
If the S.M.A.R.T. Status is "About to Fail," back up your files on the disk as soon as possible and replace the disk.
If the S.M.A.R.T. Status is "Verified" or "Not supported," click Repair Disk to repair the disk.
If Disk Utility tells you to look for links to corrupt files in the DamagedFiles directory, two or more files occupy the same space on your hard disk and at least one of them is likely to be corrupt. Examine each affected file in the DamagedFiles folder, which at the top-level of the affected disk. If you can replace it or recreate the file, delete it. If it contains necessary information, open it and examine its data to make sure it has not been corrupted.
If Disk Utility reports "The underlying task reported failure," Disk Utility encountered a problem it could not repair. Back up as much of your data as possible, reformat your disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and restore your backed up data.

  • Your computer could not be verified Mac App Store and FaceTime

    Hi All
I've been trying through several forums for a long time to find a solution for my problem before giving up, I'll go down to the point:
I have an iMac Intel 20" early 2008 (I can provide more detailed specs when required). I am using Mac OSX Lion installed from a usb and prior used Snow Leopard. They problem has been consistent thru all versions, same symptoms, same all.
    1. Whenever I try to login to Mac App Store I get the famous: "your computer could not be verified, please contact support for assistance". FaceTime also does not login, promptying a "server error, try later".
    2. Contacted support, and after 16 emails back and forth all I was told at the end was: "I am able to log in into your mac app store account from this side after resetting your account,is there anything I can do for you today".... (!!!!????)
    3. There has been a problem parallel to that, and although I am not sure they are related anyhow I need to point it out. My ethernet port stopped working and there is no way to create any connection through it. I can still use wireless quite well (reason why I still keep my machine). After sending the machine to repairs, diagnose was that it could be a problem on the logic board and to fix it may require to replace LB entirely. So I decided not to go for it and keep the machine only with wireless connection.
So I have tried every single solution found (so far...) on google and forums to no avail: a) deleting .plist, b) resetting network configs and creating new locations, c) resetting PRAMs (not sure if it solve anything, but tried anyway) and others. The problem still persists with the same symptoms.
I can login into iTunes store and buy applications from computer, iPhone and iPad, which makes me think that my credentials are valid, alas, I logged into this forum using them.
I also tried creating a new account at App Store, when I request it through the Application, the "little fan that advises you to wait" appears, but suddenly dissapear with no warning or message at all (!!!!????). It is like you never requested anything in first place.
Obviously I can still use my machine for internet and stuff, but my ability to purchase/use any Apple software is seriously restricted. I cannot purchase any software anymore if AppStore is going to be the main way to acquire it (which I think it will).
    So, my big questions are:
    1) Is this hardware problem (ethernet, logic board, connection ports) remotely related to the machine authentication process when using MacApp Store and FaceTime through Apple?
    2) Is there a way to fix this through software, before I consider replacing the machine? (Please take into account that I have already tried TS1811, deleting .plist files, resetting network, creating new locations from scratch... I basically searched thoroughly on google, forums and tips and tried all reasonable found recommendations before posting).
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks Livia and Huevoos (eggs??) for your interest in this post.
In a nutshell, I haven't been able to solve this. I gave up on Apple support after they proved useless.
As Huevoos suggested, and I confirmed it time and again after browsing thru endless forums, it seems that the user validation routine for the Mac App Store is done by looking into your network settings, which in my case are either incomplete or erroneous due to the broken-down ethernet. (I am still waiting for somebody more experienced in this forum to contradict or explain this).
So, because I still have wireless connection, I can use my machine for day-to-day chores, have not been able to purchase anything up to this date in the Mac App Store though. I'm waiting for either a software update that could correct this (Mountain Lion??? there's no guarantee only hope) or the moment when my machine will need to be replaced by a new one with a functional ethernet.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help. But I'm pretty much in the same situation as you guys.
    Live long and prosper.

  • How to verify your device

I keep trying to log in to the App Store from my tool bar but after I enter my Apple ID and password word I keep getting an error message .....  "Your device or computer could not be verified. Contact support for assistance." Trying to contact support is a whole nother issue.
Why is my Apple ID not working?  I can log into iTunes no problem with the same info.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    DSH

First, make sure you are logged out of iTunes before logging in to the App Store.
Since can login to iTunes, try this.
Launch iTunes. From the menu bar top of your screen click Store > View My Account
Click Reset to the right of "Reset all warnings for buying and downloading" then click Done.
Now from the iTunes menu bar again click iTunes > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Click:  Reset warnings  and  Reset Cache   then click OK.
Restart your Mac, launch the App Store and try again.

  • Yosemite upgrade, now this "Device or computer could not be verified"

    What the ****??
My upgrade to Yosemite on my MacPro (which meets the minimum requirements for install) has been a complete nightmare.  After crashing during install, I finally had to erase my primary hard drive and install Yosemite with my desktop hooked up to my laptop in Target Disk Mode.
Now that I have it installed and restored from my Time Machine Back Up, I am getting this error from the Apple Store:
"Your device or computer could not be verified.  Contact support for assistance."
I checked my iCloud information in System Preferences and I'm still logged in.  I attempted to verify my account in in the preferences and it accepted my password but then did nothing.  I attempted to log out from iCloud (deleting all my information from my computer) and it puttered out failing to completely log me out because of some issue with Mail. After taking care of those issues, I attempted to sign into my iCloud account in System Prefs and got the error message:
"You can't sign in at this time.  Try signing in again."
Perplexed, I attempted to sign in to iCloud via Safari.  No problem - my Apple ID & Password both worked - so now I know that my information is correct.  I checked every setting under the "My Apple ID" (applied.apple.com) and double checked every bit of information there and every thing checks out.
WHY AM I HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND HOW DO I FIX IT NOW?

    So here's a quick update.
Finally got through to someone via Support Chat.  Essentially, they surmise that the issue is that my computer installed the wrong support files since I was installing it to a hard drive via target disk mode.  In other words, the files that were installed on to my Mac Pro were actually those of my MacBOOK Pro leading my computer to have one **** of an identity crisis.
Their proposed fixed was to shut down, boot up to the internet recovery module (⌘ R at start up), use the disk utility to erase my drive (again), then use the same tool to re-install Yosemite (10.1). Well, guess what, this doesn't work either.   After erasing my drive (AGAIN!!!), I tried to reinstall, but got the error message:
"This is not a supported method of installing the operating system."  (then why the **** was this method created in the first place?)
I tried to reboot from an install USB drive, but the system no longer seems to support the "boot from usb" anymore, because the system fails with each attempt.
Not really sure what the **** to do now.

  • Vista x64 and ASIO support - X-Fi titanium

Can anyone else verify that ASIO support for the X-Fi Titanium Fatalty card is not currently available for Vista x64? This appears to be the case, contrary to what the product marketing literature suggests.
    Thanks.

Is there a walkaround for the Titanium, maybe with a older driver?
There are several walkarounds for XFI. I tried one with my driverpackage, but it didn't work.
