Viagra is junk. Why is that so hard?

Is there a way to get the junk mail filtre in Mail to catch the Official Viagra ads and move them to the Junk folder automatically? (without building custom rules)
I'm getting really sick of these ads.

Thanks for the details.
FWIW, I have images disabled, I never click on links until I've inspected the source, I generally send email as text so the vast majority of the replies I receive are also just text.
I just looked at the 'From' address for one of these emails. The address is "VIAGRA ® Official Site". There are no spaces or foreign characters in it (other than the 'registered' marque).
I have 'junked' all of these messages. I don't delete junk mail until after I've designated it as junk.
I generally mutilate my address when I use it online. The only exceptions are when I buy something online, which I no longer do.
As an aside, I now get about 100 spam per day. The bulk of it is sent to an address used once to buy software through shareit.com (a sub of Digital River). While I really like the software (DevonThink Pro/DevonAgent), and would like to upgrade my copy and buy some other copies as gifts, I probably won't. After this purchase, I also now get paper junkmail from foreign banks. Sigh.
What I don't understand is how these particular emails, that are so overtly SPAM, are left in my inbox.

  • Why is it so hard to do things right the first time?

My company is no longer providing Blackberry phones to its employees.  So I decided to upgrade my personal phone, change my plan and try to minimize my monthly bill increase.  I went with the S4, share everything with 4GB of data.  I questioned the sales associate, "will this work with Good Messaging service?  I have the feature number if needed."  The associate said, "No it will work fine."  He then asked another associate, "Right, Good Messaging will work with this share everything plan?" and the other associate confirmed.  Walked out with my new phone, plan change and a $10 a month increase.  When I got home I set up the Good Messaging app and work emails were available.  I didn't have a good feeling about the associate having to ask again and before I decommissioned the Blackberry I wanted to triple check the Good Messaging/Enterprise data feature was part of my plan.  I opened up a chat with an online associate and asked the same question...  "Can you please verify the feature...?"  Online associate again confirmed, "Yes, this feature is included in your plan.".  I arrived at work the next day and received an email from the company support team stating that my Good Messaging service had been set up, but that my wireless plan did not appear to have the "feature" included.  The email requested that I call Verizon and ask them to add the feature.  I contacted Verizon immediately, informed them of the situation and conversations with other associates, the phone associate verified that I did not have the feature on my plan.  She then added the feature and noted that this would increase my monthly bill by $15, asked if there was anything else, nope, and asked that I have a great day!
I'm frustrated simply because 3 Verizon employees verified that this feature was included in my plan!  I'm not sure why it is so hard to do things right the first time.

Update:  A couple of weeks ago I called Verizon back again after speaking with my company.  The woman on the phone was very apologetic after hearing the story above.  I then stated that people at my company reconfirmed that the service should be $5 not $15.  She took a minute to look up the feature and said it didn't appear to be available to me for $5, but was fully aware of the feature being available for $5.  She stated that she would credit my account for $10 and find out how to add the service at $5 and contact me when this was done.  Finally, I felt like I got some progress.
A couple of days later I received a phone from a VZW specialist (or some other title, don't recall).  The gentlemen asked about the past issues if I still had any concerns.  I stated the previous person I had spoke with provided me with a $10 credit and was working on adding the feature for $5.  I asked if he could confirm.  He pulled up my account and stated the feature was not available to me for $5.  I read him the announcement from my company regarding the "special plan" they had worked out with Verizon and he stated my account was still showing under a previous company that I had worked for.  He then proceeded to say that this was probably the reason why the $5 feature was not available to me and that I should which my account to my current company.  The next day I tried to switch my account to my current company and I kept getting an error message stating that I needed to contact support.
I finally got around to contacting support today and mentioned that I was trying to switch my account to my current company discount plan.  I told him that I was unsuccessful trying on line.  He pulled up my account and checked if my current company had a discount available.  He couldn't find any discounts.  While he was on the phone I went online and filled out the getdiscounts form.  Got the email to my corp email and read off the discount amounts from the email.  I then tried to make the changes online again and it worked.  He verified the change had taken place and I asked him to confirm that the good messaging service was showing at $5.  Nope it was still showing as $15.  I briefly informed him of the history and asked me to hold.  Came back about 30 seconds later and stated the feature is $15 for my account and there is no $5 feature.
So after 10+ years of loyal service to Verizon, I've almost completely lost all confidence in their ability to service correctly the first time.

  • All I want to do is upgrade two phones ... WHY IS THIS SO HARD?  And, WHY CAN'T VERIZON DO THIS???!!!

In the past month, I've spoken to dozens of Verizon reps on the phone, been disconnected a few times, been at 4 different stores, been told several different things by EVERYONE, been told "oh sure, we can do that" only to be told by someone else "no we can't" ... how can you run a business like this??!!!
I AM SO FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW I COULD SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First, it was because our account was listed as a monthly paid cash account,
then, it was because we were trying to get phones at a franchise store,
then, it was because our account was set up as a business account (according to the Verizon rep I met at Wal-Mart, even though the Vz reps on the phone tell me it's listed as a personal account AND I sign onto our account as a personal account)
then, we were told to order our upgrades on over the phone (but then we were told we would have to pay for the phones and wait for a debit card rebate to be mailed to us, which my husband does not want to do)
then, we were told to order the upgrade phones online, but every time I try I get a processing error,
then, the computer tells us to call a specific phone number if we believe the error was not right,
then, the phone recording message repeats itself through multiple options TWICE and then hangs up on me,
then, I call another Verizon number and get a "helpful" rep who tells me we can order them on the phone ... only to come back to me after being on hold and telling me they have gone home for the day,
then, I try to get help online at Verizon.com and NO ONE IS AVAILABLE TO HELP ME.
I've been to Wal-Mart 3 or 4 times, been to the local franchise store, been to a store in the Chicago area, and have spoken with Verizon reps on the phone until I'm blue, and, still ... STILL ... I don't have new phones.
(removed) ALL I WANT IS TO UPGRADE OUR 2 PHONES ... WHY IS THIS SO HARD???!!!
We have been a Verizon customer for over 16 years, apparently that means NOTHING.

That is because the people who edit the posts are NOT CS agents but instead are people who are employed by the vendor Verizon has contracted to host the forum. I don't even believe they are Verizon employees, but employees of the Jive forum platform.
For example, if a Verizon store had an electrician repairing the lighting in one of their stores, you wouldn't necessarily walk in and expect them to get off their ladder to assist you with information about a phone since they had nothing better to do than to work on the lights.  First of all, they aren't salesmen or CS agents. Second, they may not even have the capability to give you the assistance you are requesting.

  • I have to pay for something that was not my fault, nor Verizon's fault, but is an act of God/nature.  Why is that?

As I stated above, "I have to pay for something that was not my fault, nor Verizon's fault, but is an act of God/nature.  Why is that?"  I had a hard time keeping my phone charged at one time, so I called/visited my local retailer of Verizon, and they ordered me a new battery (first step after cleaning my phone. Not like it was dirty anyways). Got a new battery, put it in, still same problem.  Would not charge...boo! So, I bring it back, and they order me a replacement phone, since it "is still under warranty, and insured".  When I first brought my phone in, the young lady said, "That is why it is not charging; it was the charger port, that is why it was not charging. It is as loose as a goose" So, that is why she ordered me a new one.
So, get the new phone, put "new battery" back in.  All is good, all of what, 2 maybe 3 weeks later.  Now it is doing the same thing again. Checked the charging port, it is fine.  Bring it in, to the store, and questioned the young man behind the desk, and find out why I was charged the $299.95(+taxes & s/h). He said, "it was because the old phone was because there was "corrosion" around the port."  Of course, there was not a single note of it being loose.  He continued, and said it was because it was there had to be a time where you spilled something on it, even if it was a drop of any kind of liquid. Or, you/ or someone else, had it in the shower with them."  (Really, a drop of liquid, or taking the phone with me in the shower?)  How I could I get a "drop" of liquid in it, if I had an Otter-box on it, or why would I take it in the shower with me?  I admit, I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but, really? Come on now!
Since, I have to now pay for it, I am kind ‘a wondering if anyone else has, or had the same problem with their phone (s).  My wife has the same phone and she has not had this same problem.  Makes me wonder.  Since, my phone is doing this again, if it is something that I am doing wrong with it or not.  So, now they have ordered me a new battery, and we will see if this will be a new fix, or "good bye to Verizon."  Any comments, or suggestions, please email wife and me, and let me know. Thanks and God bless.

Don't really see how this would be an act of God/nature.
Regardless, are you saying Verizon should have to pay for those, though?

  • Why is it so hard to migrate to Symbian?

I decided to switch from my Sony Ericson/UIQ phone to an N8 and quite honestly I have transferred most of the 500 contacts tediously over single bluetooth to messages at a time.
Before you tell me about OVI suite etc, many people may not have a PC, or may not get to install the Nokia Suite, or simply are scared or more bloating of their PC's.You should make handset to handset data portability.
I pulled out an old 6630 I had with a full address book, youre datastorer.sis file you send over does not work in older phones. UIQ rejects it (application is invalid) and so do the 2nd getn Symbian phones....
The issue is that you still don't support multi vcf support multiple VCF business cards as single messages instead of just reading the first card and stopping.
Why is it so hard? You guys at Nokia should know that people just give up, if they don't get to personalize their phone and get their data on, they just return it and go for another phone. So serious effort needs to go into this.
In comparision I got I got the (SE) VCF frile from the N8 and emailed it to myself picked up the email with my iPod/Iphone/iPad and in under a minute I had the 500 contacts in Apple devices.
Maybe instead o trying to invent augmentned reality gizmos you can focus on getting core functionality right. Maybe people will be able to switch to Symbian. If it is impossible to switch to Symbian no one will.... why not make a iPhone App for people to dump their data in a way it can be pulled into a Symbian phone....  Lots of people are sick of their iPhone and the battery shenigans.....
Make symbian an Option you can choose....

Yes but that depends you putting your data on some US based juggernaut or 3rd party that probably you may not trust with your personal data.  I personally don't.
This is essential functionality that is necesary for customers to adopt Nokia products and Nokia should not be letting 3rd parties whether or how easy it is to migrate to their devices.

  • Why is it so hard to get Verizon to offer an alternative phone?

    Hello,
I've been lurking this board for a long time, and my Fascinate has had nothing but problems.
    1. The phone randomly decides to hit the back button on it's own multiple times, resulting in screencaptures.  This has not been fixed for me no matter what apps I use or how many times I reset my phone.  Have you ever been in a college library and tried to put your phone in standby only to hear the camera shutter noise? Everyone thinks you're creepy and that you're taking pictures of strangers. It's an embarassment.
    2. Sometimes when I hit the phone icon it takes me to a black screen. Let me tell you: My cellPHONE will not let me make PHONE calls. This makes the device completely useless.
    3. Sometimes I send texts to about 15 different people to confirm plans for the night, get no response at all. No texts from anybody. I wake up the next morning thinking I did something wrong and ruined relationships until I do a battery pull. Then when it starts back up it SENDS THEM THEN. Then I get a ton of confused friends wondering where I was and why they never heard back from me.
    4. I have 4 different friends with the SAME EXACT ISSUES on this SAME EXACT MODEL of phone.
I am fully updated and I have never rooted this phone.
Why is it so hard for verizon to just send me a refurbished Droid X2 or Incredible 2? It can't cost that much more!
Please, if any verizon employee sees this I would love if you could help me out. The people I've spoken to on the phone only offered to send me another Fascinate. It's NOT what I need. I have been a Verizon customer for a long time and I'm thoroughly disappointed that you can't help me out by kicking me a refurb of a different model.

    Hello ILikeColdPizza!
Sounds like you've gone through a great deal of trouble with your device.  I would like to see if we can get your phone working the way it should.
The manufacturers warranty is a no cost option that replaces the device with the same make and model, considering the device is experiencing an electrical/mechanical defect.  This is what the manufacturers cover under the standard one year warranty.  When your device does not function as intended and is defective, we intern lift this up to the manufacturer to recoup our losses.  This is the reason for the same model exchange policy.  In the meantime, I would like to further troubleshoot your device to ensure we've resolved all the issues you're experiencing.
Have you confirmed your Fascinate is running the most recent software version?  The current version would be i500.EH03, which is Gingerbread.  If not, please update software.  A lot of the issues you are experiencing were resolved in the latest update.  If you are still experiencing issues with your device after updating the software, please let me know so I can go over other options.

This last version is beyond awful. It took an already hard to use program - but one that I had at least figured out and made it even harder.

  • Why is it so hard to get iTunes to find my library?

<rant>I don't understand why it's so difficult to get iTunes to find an existing library after a move. I wish I had left this alone from the beginning. Had I known it would be this hard, I wouldn't have done this.</rant>
I have tried to move my iTunes folder from beneath my home folder to the root. After following some instructions to get this moved (I forget the link), iTunes thinks my songs are in the trash. I verified this by looking at the iTunes Library.xml file, and saw the songs linked to the songs in the trash.
So now that I've deleted my trash, all of my songs are showing up with exclamation points, saying it can't find the original song. If I locate an individual song in the new folder, it works fine. But I have thousands of songs, and have little interest in doing this for my whole library.
I've tried manually updating the iTunes Library.xml file, pointing them to the proper location, but I've figured out iTunes doesn't really use this file -- it uses the binary "iTunes Library" (with no extension) file, which I can't edit (thanks Apple).
I've also tried the option+start trick to point it to the new library (at several different points along the way), and it still thinks my songs are in the trash, I believe.
I can only assume that this has something to do with digital rights, and them not making it easy to copy music, but for us legit people, this is really a pain.
So is there a way to get this back? Or, am I left to wiping out my library, and having iTunes import my songs from scratch, and lose all of my metadata and album art?
Also once again, why is this so hard anyway? Has Apple not seen the tons of blogs and discussions on this very topic enough to warrant actually addressing this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank Chris and Diane.
After looking into this more, it looks like after transferring my media folder, I also moved my iTunes library to the root following this article:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive/
Somehow, something got missed (though I'm almost positive I followed that first Apple support article). Anyway, my fix was this:
    1) Move my iTunes media folder back to the exact trash location it thought the songs should be in, and confirmed that the songs were once again found through iTunes.
    2) Follow the Apple support article, relocated my iTunes Media folder from the trash to the desired folder in the root
    3) Moved my iTunes Library back to my home folder following the iLounge article above (move physical files, then option-open iTunes and point the library to the new location).
Once I did this, everything is as I wanted it.
By the way, Chris, the reason I want my iTunes in the root of my external rather than under the Home/Shared, is because I want my songs on the external, and my Shared folder is on my internal. I want to keep all my large files on my external.
Also, Diane, what I meant by digital rights issue, I didn't mean this was the cause of my problem, but rather speculating this was the reason Apple made it so hard to relocate your media files. Again, that was just speculation, I obviously have no way of knowing. It just seems unreasonably hard to relocate your iTunes songs (or even just tell iTunes where they are after it lost them) because Apple seems to try to make users' lives easier, not harder.
Anyway, thanks again for the help.

  • Why Did My iMac Hard Drive FAIL?

I am majorly upset right now.
My iMac 2009, 21.5"  (4GB Ram, 500GB Hard drive) computer that was practically unused since it was in storage for 2 years in my basement while I went out of town on business- suddenly had a Hard Drive Failure for no reason! Since the Warranty was expired on Apple Care, I took it in a Mac store - only to be told by the repair man that the hard drive needed a replacement. He did quick testing, and these were the results:
    Ran MRI and everything passed
    Reset pram and SMC
    Ran storage diagnostics
    Proposed Resolution: Replace hard drive
Total cost: A WHOPPING $229.00 plus tax for the hard drive plus labor costs. When I asked if I could just upgrade to a 1TB Hard drive since I was shelling out money anyways, Apple flat-out REFUSED- saying they couldn't put a warranty on a new hard drive, just the replaced one. Sounds like complete BS to me!
Further more, I would like to know how the **** this happened! A few times when the iMac was on the table and running, I lifted it up and clunked it back down a bit rough to readjust it- but it continued to work for a few more days. I doubt that would ruin a hard drive. I own a Macbook 13" that I clunk around all the time, the hard drive has never failed. Suddenly my hardly-used iMac that worked out the box when I first started using it again suddenly has a random hard drive malfunction a week in??? And now I'm out $250.00. I just feel jipped. I thought Apple products are meant to last. Apparently not. The guy said "Well it's a four year-old computer". Yeah but I only used it one year and then it was in storage! So whose to say THIS hard drive won't fail as well?
    Why did this happen?

Hard Drive Warning (all makes and models)
Ironically but logical, new hard drives are far more fragile than one that has been working for several months or a couple years. So beware in your thinking that a new hard drive translates into “extremely reliable”!
Hard drives suffer from high rates of what has been termed "infant mortality". Essentially this means new drives have their highest likelihood of failing in the first few months of usage. This is because of very minor manufacturing defects or HD platter balancing, or head and armature geometry being less than perfect; and this is not immediately obvious and can quickly manifest itself once the drive is put to work.
Hard drives that survive the first few months of use without failing are likely to remain healthy for a number of years.
Generally HD are highly prone to death or corruption for a few months, then work fine for a few years, then spike in mortality starting at 3-4 years and certainly should be considered end-of-life at 5-7+ years even if still working well. Drives written to once and stored away have the highest risk of data corruption due to not being read/written to on a regular basis. Rotate older working HD into low-risk use.
The implication of this is that you should not trust a new hard drive completely (really never completely!) until it has been working perfectly for several months.
Given the second law of thermodynamics, any and all current mfg. HD will, under perfect storage conditions tend themselves to depolarization and a point will be reached, even if the HD mechanism is perfect, that the ferromagnetic read/write surface of the platter inside the HD will entropy to the point of no viable return for data extraction. HD life varies, but barring mechanical failure, 3-8 years typically.
Data redundancy (copies) makes all HD crashes inconsequential, an irrelevancy.
There are only two kinds of hard drives, those that have failed, and those that will fail, regardless of quality of manufacture.
Any Macbook or desktop should be idealized as a working platform computer system, containing all your applications, documents, and weekly-use necessary files; and all media files such as ‘big-data’ (music/PDF collections/video/pictures), unless directly needed in the near future, should be kept off the computer and on external storage USB or likewise bare hard drives.
Never consider any computer a data storage device at any time under any circumstance, rather a data creation, sending, and manipulation device. Anyone who thinks data is safe on any computer, even copied upon multiple partitions is making a mistake that will, without fail, strike.
Never backup your data exclusively upon magnetic hard drives or flash storage, nor consider same since magnetic storage degrades over time, roughly 3-8 years, even under ideal storage conditions.

It was very hard to see what the box says because the message displays for less than one second. However, I was able to record it with my iphone and pause it until I got a shot of the message. The box says the following:
"Do you want the application “java” to accept incoming network connections?
Clicking deny may limit the application’s behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences."
I did make some changes. I will see if it works.

Why my Toshiba mobile hard drive (1TB) can not be used in the macbook air?

If you are speaking of the USB 3.0 Canvio, you are not alone. Call Toshiba and check on their progress in alleviating the problem. I heard they are blaming Apple, but since theirs is the only drive that exhibits this problem, I think the burden is on Toshiba.
Some users have reported that by using a micro USB 2.0 connector (see bottom picture), instead of the 3.0 that comes with the drive, that it is a workaround. Notice that the 3.0 connector has sort of a "dual head" nature to the construction. One part of it is 2.0 USB micro compatible. I've never tried it myself though.

in a RT system, priorities have (in general) increased effect on the execution of the application.
It is recommended that you only have a single task in your RT program at "time critical". If you have two task "time critical" (that means you are running into issues caused by your quoted "feature"), you have a flaw in your application architecture.
Since LV 7.1, it is recommended to work with Timed Loops in order to prioritize tasks on a RT system. Timed Loops are executed on priorities between "time critical" and "above normal". Each Timed Loop will execute its content in a single thread in order to keep a good overview of the timing (like finished late [i-1]). Using those structures (and according settings) in a reasoned manner will prevent your RT system to run into priority issues.

[...]also i would really appreciate if i can get more documentations regarding how LV creates threads and assigns subvis to them[...]
You will have a real hard time to go into this very deep. This is the feature of LV: you can just use multithreading (multicores) without the needed knowledge of scheduling and load balancing. This makes LV programming in general very easy in comparison to e.g. ANSI C (in regard of multithreading). So creation of threads, distribution of tasks to the threads are abstracted and most often not visible to the programmer.
There are some switches and levers you can "play around" in order to make LV to behave differently in this matter. But this most often requires  deep LV knowledge and cannot be explained in a simple posting.....
    hope this helps,
    Norbert
    Amen to that!
The question can not be fully answered without digging into the internals of the OS LV is run on because LV works with the OS and lets it do the scheduling.
Yes that note applies to pre- LV 7 RT. When run under RT the ONE Time Critical loop was guarenteed to stay determinisitic.
Since then the Timed Loop was introduced that allowed multiple levels of priority and later allowed us to assign which CPU the code would run on.

That does happen.  It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system.  If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.

Why would that be? How do I look at what's in the I Photo Library to figure out what's happening, and if there's stuff in there I need to delete?

Best to keep the terms clear.
    You export photos from iPhoto.
You move the iPhoto Library to an external disk.
They're are quite different processes. Exporting means at the end you have a file outside iPhoto. Moving means the files are still inside iPhoto.
    So if you say:
I'm currently exporting the  library to an external drive
That reads like I''ve selected all the photos in iPhoto and am exporting them to a folder on this external drive, and at the end I'll have a folder full of photos outside iPhoto. Is that what you mean?
Is it best to have a 'master' I photo library on an external drive for all the thousands of pics Im never really going to look at often - and a smaller one kept on the HD for day to day usage ...
Best? Hard to know. It might make sense on a portable. But if you're on an iMac why do you need a smaller one on the internal? Why not just have the whole library on the external? There is no performace hit.
