Video content on the touch

I've downloaded a video via Itunes and have successfully loaded it to an ipod nano. I've also connected my Ipod Touch to the itunes library and copied it accross. I can see it has downloaded and can play it back through the computer screen from the ipod touch, but when I try to play it on the touch I get a message saying that the ipod is unable to play the movie.
Has anyone got any idea why this might be?

First, try a system reset on the iPod.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If that doesn't work, reset the Apple TV.  I'm not at mine right now and I'm talking from memory but the reset is somewhere in the Settings menu.

  • Transfer Amazon Instant Video Content from iPod Touch

I made the mistake of purchasing a TV season from Amazon Instant video, unaware that I would not be able to download my content to my MacBook. I was able to download the TV season to my Windows Desktop using Amazon Unbox, but the DRM protected WMV files will not play on my Macbook. I was also able to download the TV season to my iPod Touch, using the Amazon Instant Video app. So, I was hoping to transfer these files from my iPod to my Macbook.
Now my question is: Where are the downloaded video files saved on my iPod? I downloaded iFunBox to browse the files on my iPod, but I could not find the video files anywhere. Does anyone know where the Amazon Instant Video app saves downloaded content in the iPod Touch's file structure?
    Thank you,
    James

    Update:
I was able to locate the files I was looking for, however, they were not video files. Each TV episode is represented by a folder containing hundreds of small .data files.
Does anyone know if .data files can be reassembled into a video? I have a feeling this is linked to DRM protection.
    Thanks,
    James

  • Maximum video duration on the touch?

    Hi
I've encoded a number of videos for my touch, each with the same settings (MP4, H.264, AAC) and the have been playing fine on the touch.
I've just encoded one however that doesn't work. It's the same settings as all the others, will play in itunes, but when i try and copy it to the touch itunes says:
"name of file" was not copied to the iPod "name of ipod" because it cannot be played on this ipod.
The only thing different about the file is the duration - all the other files were under 2 hours. The file that won't play is 2h 25 long (and 1.3gig)
So im left wondering, is there a maximum duration for a QT on the touch?

I encoded the movie Memoirs of a Geisha for my own viewing on the portable iPod Touch which is 2 hours and 25 minutes. No problems here. I highly doubt there is a time limit unless of course you exceed the space on the Touch. Just curious, are you using an 8 gig or a 16 gig Touch?

  • How can i stream my powerpoint presentation with audio video content to the display devices

i wanted to stream my Power point presentation with audio/video content inserted in between the slides how can i achieve this requirements
is there any harware or software available for this
    Please let me know
    Thanks

This is not a straightforward procedure. I normally take the exported PPt file onto a windows machine and import the video files into PPt before sending to a client
Once the folder is copied to windows, the video files have to be imported  again manually to relink the files as they loose the link in the export
Check that the video files are copied into the same folder as the Powerpoint file
The only file types playable from Powerpoint in widows are:   mpeg   wmv   avi
Use wmv for  best quality and compatibility

Has anyone had trouble getting their videos taken with the touch to show on the TV using Airplay and an AppleTV? Everything else works (movies, utube, music, etc...) but not the videos I have recorded using the touch. Anyone know the fix?

  • HD video compressed for the web

I was doing some testing trying to figure out the best way to compress the HD video I get from the Sony XDCAM HD for the web (streaming). I shoot in HD (1080/30P) because it's needed for our videos. The web streaming is secondary.
I would prefer to make the web videos .flv because it works best and most easily cross-platform. In the real world, the majority of users have Windows PCs, which made me hesitant to use h.264 (.m4v) because it probably would require the average user to download things they may not wan to. Nonetheless, it has to be viewable on all computers in all browers.
So, I took three 10 second clips of steady camera video with audio from the camera that I used in all tests. I will refer to them by clip number...
    Clip 1: 30P 16:9 High quality, 10sec=45mb
    Clip 2: 30P 16:9 Low Quality, 10sec=24mb
    Clip 3: 60i 16:9 High Quality, 10sec=45mb
First I tested making FLV is Adobe CS3 Encoder using the High Quality (700) setting.
    Test 1 used size 848x480 (16:9)
    Clip 1: 1.3mb
    Clip 2: 1.1mb
    Clip 3: 1.2mb
Comments: Looked very crisp, audio was clean, slightly darker image than original on default settings
    Test 2 used size 480x270 (16:9)
    Clip 1: 1.2mb
    Clip 2: 1.1mb
    Clip 3: 1.1mb
Comments: Looked very crisp, audio was clean, slightly darker image than original on default settings
Next, I tested making .m4v using the h.264 iPod settings in Compressor.
    Test 1 used size 640x370.
    Clip 1: 240kb
    Clip 2: 1440kb
    Clip 3: 204kb
Comments: Image wasn't quite as clean as the Flash files, but still good. Much lighter/brighter than the Flash files also. Low Quality HD video had high file size... why? I don't know, but I don't shoot on LQ for things anyway.
    Test 2 used size 320x180.
    Clip 1: 160kb
    Clip 2: 865kb
    Clip 3: 865kb
Comments: Image wasn't quite as clean as the Flash files, but still good. Much lighter/brighter than the Flash files also. Low Quality HD video had high file size... also the 60i file...why? I don't know.
In conclusion, I'm lucky that I shoot 30P since it worked well in all areas. The h264 codec provides a much smaller file size than Flash, with a good image. Amazing considering we started with a 45MB clip. What are the standards for aspect ratios for putting 16:9 video on the web? I haven't heard much set in stone like you have for 4:3 video. Nonetheless, the 640x360 or 480x270 seem to be a nice size for most uses.
I have heard that in Flash 9 you can chance the m4v extension to flv and it will work. IF that is true, that would be great because now my concern is that a base Windows PC cannot play these .m4v images without plugins/codecs. I suppose right now its a tradeoff between smaller file size/less compatibility with h264 or larger file size, great compatibility with Flash.
Any comments or suggestions to help out would be great. I typed this fast so forgive me if I left out any important info.

    Hi APPLE27:
One comment from your post that immediately caught my attention was this, "Nonetheless, it has to be viewable on all computers in all browsers."
Unfortunately, it is unrealistic to expect one digital video file to be viewable on "all computers in all browsers" as there are simply too may variations in both hardware and software.
A common approach when offering digital video is to provide two formats to choose from and then within each of those two formats a few versions of the video for different bandwidths.
For example, a web site might offer Video for Windows and QuickTime. For each of these, there would be a low bandwidth Video for Windows file and QuickTime file and a high bandwidth Video for Windows file and QuickTime file (four files total). Of course, there's also Flash Video, Real Video, MPEG1, and so on.
For better or worse, YouTube.com has allowed video content creators the realistic expectation of creating a digital video file that is viewable on "most computers". But, the video is unavoidably tied to that web site.
When it comes to online distribution of video, it's still very open ended.
Also, computers are not all that's out there. Mobile devices are a huge market and you'd be hard pressed to create a single digital video file that will play on all mobile devices (iPhone, iPod Touch, Palm Treo, Sony PSP, etc.) either from local storage or from a mobile browser.
QuickTime offers a solution for creating a referencing movie - one file that links to other digital video files, but it too is imperfect at best when it comes to reaching the broadest audience possible.
With my few comments here, I'm just scratching the surface. But, it all starts where you are right now: caring about the image quality when exporting from your edited master.

  • Uploading movies/videos onto my iPod Touch

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if when they say Videos this is different from movies. I wanted to download Office Space from the iTunes Store but from what I have tried I don't think I can load these onto my Touch. I figured any apple format video would work (.mp4) for example, but when tried to upload a free vid I got from the store it wouldn't work. Then I tired an .mp4 vid I had on my computer and that wouldn't work either.
Does the Touch support these formats? What kind of videos can I upload?
Also can I use a different browser on my Touch that would allow me to download Flash? Or is that pretty much out of the question?
Also I have the 2nd Gen. iPod Touch
    Thanks in advance.

Those options aren't required for video purchased from the iTunes Store. They are useful for video acquired from other sources. The only thing I've ever had to use them for on video content from the iTunes Store are weirdly encoded video podcasts. I currently have four different video capable iPods (5th gen iPod, 3rd gen Nano and both 1st and 2nd gen Touch) and have never had to use those conversion options for purchased contents.
Using those options really isn't going to address whatever the underlying problem is and can take a really long time. Bottom line is that stuff should transfer. If it doesn't, finding the problem may safe a lot of time in the end.
    Best of luck.

  • Missing Plug-in when trying to run video content

I am new Mac user and one of my favorite websites returns an error message when I try to run video content..the message is....."Media Center” has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed." Any advice where and how to get the plug-in for Safari...?

    Hi again,
I think your only other hope is to try installing the old, PowerPC only, Windows Media Player (WMP) from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/mac/mp9/default.aspx
Microsoft's WMP supports some of the DRM files that Flip4Mac can't handle (but sadly it can't handle the most recent types of files).
For Safari to use the plug-in for WMP it must be run in Rosetta mode (where the system emulates a PowerPC processor). To do that, you'll need to navigate to the Applications folder, select the Safari icon and press cmd+i. In the 'Get Info' window that pops up, enable the Rosetta checkbox. (If Safari is already running, quit it and restart Safari to pick up the change.)
Safari will run noticeably slower in this mode, so I'd only recommend using this when you really have to (assuming it even works! ).

  • Safari will not display video content/flash etc on websites ie youtube etc

I am running Panther 10.3.9 and Safari 1.3.2 (v312.6). When trying to access Youtube, Facebook etc Safari does not display video/animation etc and so Safari closes with an error. It will also not play video content on the Apple website. I would also like to know the following if someone could please help; What is the best software to upgrade to ie Tiger? etc ; What is the maximum memory upgrade for my machine and what would I ask for and best place to buy? Any assistance is much appreciated. Kind regards VJR1OK!!

You may find some improved online performance with Panther 10.3.9 with
the last supported Flash and Shockwave players installed (older ones have
to be uninstalled) and though the use of Camino browser since it is up-to-date.
There still will be some limitations; but if you have the correct Flash/Shockwave
players for Panther installed and get Camino, and use it as a default replacement
for that ancient Safari, that would make a difference. Also, it always makes sense
to get more RAM in an older computer since they usually shipped with very little.
In the case of older computers, often the capacity of the hard disk drive was also
a matter of marginalization. A large enough drive to have plenty of free space in
it, after applications and the OS X is installed, so the system can have room for
temporary files and Virtual Memory, then it can run the last supported OS X ok.
An externally enclosed bootable hard drive (FireWire enclosed unit) could be
used to add space or a second system for use when at a desktop, so for the
sake of discussion, the internal drive would not necessarily need replaced to
check out a different operating system that may need more room in a drive.
RAM is an easy fix; and a new browser from Camino.org - plus those players.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How do I watch Flash video content on iPad2?

A large amount of video content on the Internet was created in Adobe Flash format. The iPad2 does not support Flash, which limit's its utility on a number of the websites I frequent.  This shortcoming was a big surprise after I purchased the iPad. Is there an Apple app available or under development that can play Flash video? Other sites talk about cracking or other techniques to force Flash to run on the iPad, but I'd like to know what Apple is doing to plug this hole?

    You have three choices.
    1. Just forget about Flash as I have.
    2. Try the alternate browsers that King_Penguin suggests. Also search the App Store for specific apps that will handle content from specific sites.
    3. Return or sell your iPad and buy a device (other table or a laptop) that will handle the Flash sites you want to visit.

  • Sound on video content, no sound on audio!

    Hello, everyone!
I've a rather perplexing problem. Playing video content through the Apple TV works just fine - lots of glorious 5.1!
But when I try to play audio tracks (even non-DRM ones) nothing comes out! It happily pumps the sound to other airports on the network, and even shows up as playing on the screen, but nothing comes out!
    Any help much appreciated!
    Many thanks,
    DAN

Have you tried restarting the AppleTV from power off.
How are you playing back audio in 5.1?
If this is via a surround amp you may have the input configured for 5.1 on the amp.
Stereo is output as PCM audio over optical and probably over HDMI too.
You might need to change your amp input to Auto or PCM for stereo or similar.
If it's expecting 5.1 it may ignore PCM.

  • Apple tv menu displayed over video content

During airplay and occasionally while playing video content on the Apple TV, the atv menu is displayed over the video content. This goes away by restarting the device but it is only a matter of time before it happens again. Does anyone now how this can be avoided or of an easier/permanent fix?  It is annoying to keep restarting the device.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)
