Vim runs a bit slowly on XFCE terminal emulator?

This is strange. vim runs a bit slow when run from XFCE terminal emulator.
For example: when I type "aaaaaaaa", there will be a lag about 1 second, then "a" will appear one by one.
But when I run it from the KDE Konsole, vim goes fine. No lag at all.
I don't have compiz/composite desktop enabled.
Just in case someone is wondering, this is my ~/.vimrc
syntax on
set number
if has('gui_running')
set guifont=Courier\ 9
set guioptions-=T
colorscheme slate
"autocmd FocusGained * :colorscheme pablo
"autocmd FocusLost * :colorscheme slate
endif
I just tried adding these to my xorg.conf
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection
And it didn't work.

  • Xmonad + dmenu + Xfce Terminal Emulator hangs at green box

Previously I had been using the Xfce Terminal Emulator with dmenu xmonad. Most recently it stopped working and starting exhibiting the following behavior:
If I launch "Terminal" through dmenu then the terminal launches but hangs before providing a prompt. It shows instead a madding green cursor box. The menu system is still active but it never seems to be able to execute a shell. Alternatively, if I launch mrxvt and then type "Terminal" it works correctly but displays the following warning:
    (Terminal:7162): GLib-GIO-WARNING **: Could not initialize inotify
Oddly, if I start a terminal with dmenu and then try to start another from mrxvt then they both hang with the green box. Close both down and suddenly mrxvt launched Terminals start working again.
Any ideas as to why Xfce Terminal isn't working with dmenu?

I never use terminal, but I gave this a try since I am running xmonad.
I get that empty but for a green cursor when I try to launch terminal from gmrun, but it works fine from dmenu.
I get an "Unable to load terminal preferences." if I try to run it from a urxvtc command line, but it launches just fine.
My hotkey works fine, but it is bound to urxvtc.

  • Things have been running a bit slowly on my mac of late, several months after having installed 8 gig of fresh ram

    Good evening, folks.
I'm running with a 13 inch 2011 macbook pro.  Some months ago, I upgraded from 4 to 8 gigs of ram.  Things were snappy and running very smoothly, however, over the past several weeks or so, I've noticed a decline in efficiency.  I do run my chrome browser constantly, usually itunes is open, but beyond that my applications are open only when they are in use.  I do have usually 2-3 spaces available as organization of my display.  I've ran an EtreCheck report, however, I don't know how to interpret it. Any help?
    Problem description:
recently installed 8 gigs of ram on my macbook pro, worked excellent for some time….i seems like however now it’s running on only 1.46 gig ‘wired’ ram.  Not sure what’s up.

  • Backspace is ignored in Mutt pager in Xfce terminal

    This is strange.
I found out today that the BackSpace key which I'd been used to for moving backward (bottom to top) through a message by line was being ignored.   Mutt helpfully informs me "Key is not bound.  Press '?' for help." on the input line.  As this had been working previously when running Debian/Linux Mint, I checked those RC files but find no mention of binding the BackSpace to the "previous-line" function.  I added "bind pager <backspace> previous-line" to my .muttrc to no avail.  Pressing ? in the pager and looking over the key bindings I see that it appears to be bound "<BackSpace>  previous-line            scroll up one line" but I still get the error.
I've verified that BackSpace works as expected in Midnight Commander, Vim, and at the shell command line.  I am running mustt in an Xfce terminal session.  I have also verified that BackSpace has the expected behavior in a virtual terminal.  I have also verified that the $TERM variable is set to xterm in Xfce terminal.
Looking at the output of xev all looks as expected:
KeyPress event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x3e00002,
    root 0x274, subw 0x0, time 46127167, (-451,280), root:(100,695),
    state 0x0, keycode 22 (keysym 0xff08, BackSpace), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (08) "
    XmbLookupString gives 1 bytes: (08) "
    XFilterEvent returns: False
KeyRelease event, serial 35, synthetic NO, window 0x3e00002,
    root 0x274, subw 0x0, time 46127261, (-451,280), root:(100,695),
    state 0x0, keycode 22 (keysym 0xff08, BackSpace), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 1 bytes: (08) "
    XFilterEvent returns: False
At the virtual console I get:
    keycode 14 press
    keycode 14 release
    when pressing BackSpace.
Using the "what-key" function in Mutt in the Xfce terminal shows:
    Char = ^?, Octal = 177, Decimal = 127
while at the virtual console it shows:
    Char = <BackSpace>, Octal = 420, Decimal = 272
when pressing BackSpace.  The code in the Xfce terminal is that of ASCII Delete, so things are a bit awry.  Meanwhile Mutt sees the Delete key as:
    Char = <Delete>, Octal = 423, Decimal = 275
in Xfce terminal and in the virtual console.
Interestingly, typing Ctl+Shft+/ (for Ctl-?) Mutt shows BackSpace in virtual console but ^? Xfce terminal.
I also have the same behavior when using SSH to remotely access the desktop as I get from Xfce terminal.  In fact, this is how I first noticed this.
So far this is the only real glitch I've encountered since trying Arch.

Looks as though I may have fixed it in Xfce terminal by going to Edit=>Preferences=>Advanced and set "Backspace key generates:" to "Control-H".  So far it has not broken Midnight Commander or Vim and the key is now recognized in Mutt's pager and also works as the BackSpace (deleting the character to the left of the cursor and then moving the cursor to that place) in Mutt's editing fields.

  • Can I run 32 bit firefox on my Windows 7, 64 bit and how ? Flash player loads slow.

Can I run 32 bit Firefox on my Windows 7, 64 bit and how do I do that? Flash player loads videos slowly. You tube videos are mostly loading slowly or hanging up. It seems to have happened after the last Firefox update.

According to website I have Flash Player installed but I cannot run a program (BBC iPlayer DeskTop) that requires 64 Bit Flash player Any ideas?
Does that program require the Flash Player ActiveX Control, or the plugin?  If you only have the ActiveX Control (for Internet Explorer) installed, then you may also need the plugin (for other browsers).  Get it from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

  • My iMac is not "64-bit clean". Can it run 64-bit software?

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac that is about 4 years old. Apparently it cannot boot into the 64-bit kernel. Can it still run 64-bit software?

How have you determined your machine will not run Snow Leopard in 64 bit mode?
To tell whether it can or cannot open Terminal and run:
    ioreg -l -p IODeviceTree | grep firmware-abi
It will return either “EFI32″ or “EFI64.” If it's EFI64 congratulations it will run in 64 bit.
However please remember there are still very few applications that take advantage of 64 bit architecture so even the newer machines that can run 64bit apps don't see any advantages.

  • [SOLVED] Xfce terminal open links with wrong browser.

After installing Opera as second browser, xfce terminal began to open links with it, instead of my default browser - Firefox.
I right click on an URL, choose 'Open Link' and it opens in Opera.
Firefox is set as default browser in Settings -> Preferred Applications -> Web Browser
    xdg-open http://archlinux.org
    - opens Firefox
    exo-open http://archlinux.org
    - opens Firefox
After quick search through xfce terminal sources i found it uses some function - gtk_show_uri.
I googled it, found that topic: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=140028 and tried the solution:
    cat ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list
    [Added Associations]
    x-scheme-handler/mailto=exo-mail-reader.desktop
    x-scheme-handler/http=firefox-browser.desktop
    strangely it doesn't help.
After all righ click url in terminal and 'Open Link' still uses Opera.
Any ideas? What else can i do to find out a reason?

Tried BROWSER envar - doesnt help, and as i understand it must work only for cli apps.
Editing of  ~/.config/mimeapps.list doesnt help eather:
    cat ~/.config/mimeapps.list
    [Default Applications]
    text/vcard=firefox.desktop
    text/html=firefox.desktop
    [Added Associations]
    text/vcard=firefox.desktop;
    text/html=firefox.desktop
    but maybe it's not correct.
After that i tried to strace xfce4-terminal:

  • Satellite P200-17C: graphics in XP seems to be running a bit sluggish

    Hi all
    I've just bought a Satellite P200-17c.
I've set up my dual boot with Vista and XP (that was REALLLLY hard) everything seems to be almost OK, but..... The graphics in XP seems to be running a bit sluggish, when you scroll a window in a browser it seems to 'refresh' in blocks - it's not moving right. If I go to device manager under other devices there are two things for which there is no driver install, one says: VGA controller, the other says: unknown device!
It's true that I haven't istalled the ATI drivers yet.... But that's because the only place I can find to get them for XP is from the Toshiba support area, the file is 162MB (not that big) but it is downloading at such a slow pace even though I have a fast connection, I don't even know if it will work?!
I've tried some things from the ATI site directly, althought I was trying to install the drivers for the ATI HD2400 graphics card that the machine has, on installation it said it couldn't continue as there wasn't any compatable hardware connected.....
My download from the Toshiba area has already gone wrong once, meaning I have to re-start it.
Does any one have any light they can shine on this issue. If any one has the driver downloaded already and fancies sticking on mega upload or something, that'll be fun???!!!!!
    Ideas suggestion welcome!

    Hi
I was very curious about driver offered on Toshiba support page. You are right about file. It is about 160 MB and I have needed 20 minutes for download but download was successfully and I do not see any problem that you can not do the same.
Extract the file and just use setup.exe to start driver installation.

  • Problem with HP 3600n Color Laserjet Printer and new HP Notebook Running 64 bit Win7

I have a new HP notebook (dv7t-6100) with Core-i7 Processor, running 64 bit Windows 7 with all of the latest updates.
I also have a 27" iMac with Core-i7 Processor running 64 bit Windows 7 underneath Parallels 7. Parallels is a program that creates a virtual machine underneath Mac OSX.
Both versions of 64 bit Windows 7 work perfectly . . . EXCEPT, neither will print from my HP 3600n Color Laserjet. The iMac will print to the 3600n in OSX mode, and an earlier version of 32 bit Windows 7 under Parallels printed perfectly with this 3600n printer.
These facts prove that the printer is OK, the connection is OK. However, the 64 bit Windows 7 systems do not print.
In both of the 64 bit Windows 7 installs I allowed Windows to find and download the HP driver for this printer. Install of the driver was apparently successful. Still no printing.
One strange fact: Sometimes when I turn the computer off, the 3600n printer will print the items that had been in the queue before powering down. That is the only time it has printed anything . . . except under OSX on the iMac.
Does anyone know if there is a basic problem with 64 bit Windows 7 and this printer ?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I just had the same problem with my MacBook Pro using 10.5.5 After trying a number of things, the following worked. (not sure what specifically ... just did this combination)
    1. Had the Apple store Genius Bar folks install the latest HP drivers.
    2. Restart computer
    3. Restart the HP Color LaserJet 3600
    4. Connected the HP printer and MacBook Pro directly into a switch, so the wireless was not an issue (both machines had IP addresses set and computer's was set to DHCP with manual IP).
    5. Instead of using the System Preference printing and fax tool, I started Text Edit, typed something and said "print".
Print window came up and said "no printer selected"
    6. I clicked on the drop down so it would look for printers.
    7. It found the HP Color LaserJet 3600.
    8. I clicked on the name of the printer and the computer went out and found the driver
    9. I clicked on "Add" and it added the printer.
    10. I tried a couple of test prints in different programs.
    11. I disconnected the hard wired ethernet cables and set the computer to be on the wireless.
    12. I printed a few more test prints in various programs.
I had previously tried selecting the printer and drivers through the System Preferences to no avail, but doing it this way worked.
    Blessings

You would reinstall 10.6 using your installation DVD.
Out of curiosity, how much RAM do you have? Recent versions of OS X really shine with 4GB or more.

I have mac OS X, Photoshop CC 64 bit and and i would like to run 32 bit plugins.. How may I do this ?

As said already by JJMack, you cannot do that.
Photoshop CS6, CC & CC 2014 only install a 64-bit version on Mac OS.
Photoshop CS5 installs a version that can launch in either 32 bit or 64 bit when you install on a 64-bit version of Mac OS (Mac OS X 10.5 or later). If you are using Mac OS X 10.4 or earlier, then Photoshop only installs the 32-bit version.
    Photoshop CS4 installs a 32-bit version only.

All I had to do was use the 32bit version of "/usr/bin/gcc" and "/usr/bin/g++" to run the installation
    That is:
