Visitor Tools

Hello:
I am using WebLogic 8.1. I have created a Platform from the configuration wizard.
I have followed the directions at http://e-docs.bea.com/wlp/docs81/visitor/vistools.html
for "Adding Visitor Tools to a New Portal Application." I am also running the
visitorTools from a desktop I created with the portal admin tool. I am also using
the pointbase database.
My problem is that I log into the desktop and click on the link to "Customize
my portal". The customization tool comes up and then I change my look and feel.
I click on the "Apply look and feel" button and I automatically return to the
desktop. The login portlet thinks I have logged out, while another portlet displays
my login information (login name and principals). The desktop is displaying the
changes that I made. I then log back in and my changes are still there. I then
log out and the original desktop is returned. I then log back in and my changes
are not displayed.
Any idea what the problem could be? Could the program by trying to access a pointbase
table(s)? Could there be something in one or more of the XML files that I need
to change?
TIA,
Mark

  • Weblogic Portal Samples-Dynamic Visitor tools sample

    Hi,
For configuring the DVT samples at weblogic portal it is mentioned that 'The DVT Sample is not supported for a production environment'. We are not clear with this point.
Will it work only for testing environment?
Is it require to take any licence for this at production environment?
We have used the DVT for Streaming Desktop and it works only when we enable the Dynamic Visitor tools sample in bea workshop while Adding the DVT Facet.
    Please clarify the same.
    Regards
    Himanshu

    Hi Himanshu
It should work for Production Env also and as far as I know you DO NOT need any extra or separate license just to support this DVT samples. As the word itself mentions "DVT Samples", since its a kind of sample utility, BEA/Oracle officially do not support it. It can be used freely either in Dev/Test or Prod Env. Just incase if you run into any major issues, which really breaks DVT and if it do not work, then Support may say it is not supported. But still I guess they will not leave it in the air. So best thing is, do full regression testing in Dev/Test Env and then move to the Production Env. It should work for any Env as far as you install the Samples while installing WLP 10.x and Enable this facet when you create the Portal Domain.

  • Visitor Tools with Left Nav Shell

Has anyone out there implemented visitor tools with a custom shell? I have written
a shell the puts navigation to the left of the portal page. I am wondering how
to bring in visitor tools as well, since this is it's own shell.
    Thanks.

In your shell file, split the <netuix:header/> element into opening and closing elements, and add an attribute that points to the JSP that enables visitor tools. For example:
    <netuix:header>
    <netuix:jspContent contentUri="/framework/markup/shell/support/header.jsp"/>
    </netuix:header>
Note that you won't see the visitor tools if you preview the portal in Workshop. The visitor tools are only enabled in a streaming portal (one you've created in the Admin Portal).
Depending on where you want the visitor tool links to show up, copy the code from /framework/markup/shell/support/header.jsp into the appropriate JSP.
If you haven't already seen this topic, here's some basic info about enabling the visitor tools in a portal (which doesn't describe the custom shell scenario):

I haven't tried to repro this, but an idea:
Visitor Tools are only relevant for streaming desktops (should see "appmanager" in the URL). If you are targeting a .portal file instead, perhaps Visitor Tools are not tolerating that?
How are you navigating to the portal?

  • Pages editing tools not showing define

I am having an issue with the Pages editing feature on my iPad2.  When I double click on a word, I get the edit bar showing Cut, Copy, Replace but not Define. This appears to have started after I upgraded to iOS6.  I upgraded Pages to version 1.6.2 but the problem still exists.  I have read that making sure auto-correct and spell check are turned on in your keyboard settins would resolve this issue, but it didnt work for me.
Has anyone else experienced this and gotten a resolution?

Visitor Tools API is really buggy. Once u start using it, u will discover newer
problems with it. My suggestion would be to not to use Visitor Tools in production
env. u can see PortalVisitorManager.java class from Visitor Tools, how poorly
it is written, especially exception handling mechanism. Be very careful with Visitor
    Tools.

  • Create a new portlet  in Deployed Portal in production environment

are there any ways to import or create a new portlet in Deployed Portal in production environment?
    Edited by: user8322798 on May 1, 2011 7:26 AM

This can done via WSRP proxy portlets and streaming desktops. First, you'll need to have a WSRP producer setup somewhere. This could be another WLP webapp with portlets, or another server altogether. Or, you can use the JSR 286 WSRP import tool from within the Portal Administration Console (I think it's under Services | WSRP | Import Tool) -- this will allow you upload .war(s) of JSR 168 or 286 portlets, which will be turned into WSRP producer(s).
Then, you can use the Portal Administration Console to register a WSRP Producer, and then add portlets from the producer to your desktop (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15919_01/wlp.1032/e14235/chap_fed_books_pages.htm#FPGWP690). Additionally, once the producer has been registered in Portal Adminstration Console, an adminstrator user can use the Dynamic Visitor Tools from within the streaming desktop itself to add wsrp proxy portlets to the desktop (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15919_01/wlp.1032/e14243/dvt.htm#PDGWP691).
It is not possible to add new local .portlet files to a deployed application in production mode. This requires adding the file artifacts to the .ear/.war and redeploy the application.

  • How to make an opion to add and remove portlets dynamically from GUI?

    Hi,
I have a requirment to provide option for the users to remove some section (basically portlets) from the page and add it later based on preferences .I think currenlty we have this option in iGoogle website. please give me some pointers towards the solution.?
    Thanks Jazz

    Hello Jazz,
If the "preferences" you are referring to are the users' preferences (and not "portlet preferences"), I think the Dynamic Visitor Tools are what you want. There is a demonstration of the dynamic visitor tools at:

how to show different Look & Feel to different users?
    Thanks & Regards,

If you want the user to select then LookAndFeel then Visitor Tools.
If you want to use code and dynamically change it then http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13155_01/wlp/docs103/javadoc/index.html?com/bea/netuix/laf/PortalLookAndFeel.html
if you have only a few combinations then you could even create different desktops and direct the user to the appropriate url

  • Quotation marks and special characters

    Hello,
Does anyone know why quotations marks are rendered as a box (space?)
character on JSP page when displayed as a portlet? They are displayed fine
    as a standalone JSP page.
    Thank you,
    Makoto

    Hi Brodi,
Thanks for your insight! Actually we're using WLP 7 - so no visitor tools.
The JSP page doesn't explicitly set the encoding and I'm looking for a tag
line or code that specifies it for the portal page, along with .portal file.
So far I've only seen a reference to character set in i18n:localize tag. Are
the portlet pages processed with certain encoding defined in such tags
before pushed out to the portal page?
    Thank you,
    Makoto

    Makoto-
Sounds like a mismatch between the output encoding used between the jspand the
portal. When running the jsp stand-along, it is the jsp that determinesthe output
encoding, while when running from within the portal, it is the .portalfile or
the streamed db portal that determines the output encoding.
If you are using a .portal file, the portal:directive.page element (foundimmediately
after portal:root) is used to define the output encoding, as in:
    <portal:directive.page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8"/>
If you are using a streamed portal, I believe you can use the Visitortools to
set the output encoding for a desktop.
By default, all portals should have their output encoding specified asUTF-8.
I would recommend using the same for your jsp's.

  • What are the limitations of AJAX in BEA Weblogic 10.2 ?

    Hi All,
I am wondering if some one could tell/summaries what are the limitations of AJAX in BEA weblogic portal 10.2 ??

Please reask this question in the WebLogic Portal forum:
    WebLogic Portal
I think you'll need to be more specific as well. Are you referring to portlet development, in which the portlet uses a javascript library, drag/drop functionality in Dynamic Visitor Tools, etc?

  • Calling java script function in portal

    Hi,
I want all the users (anonymous & logged in) of my portal application to have drag and drop facility to my portlets. I couldn't see DVT enabled property in my workspace as mentioned in
    http://edocs.bea.com/wlp/docs102/portals/develop_portals.html#wp1057635
How to activiate this feature? Will it support anonymous user to change the portlet locations?
    Alternative:
I found JQuery UI from http://ui.jquery.com/ has sortalble javascript function. It has the similar feature like drag and drop.
Please let me know, how to add jquery.js sortable javascript function to my portal application, so that users can place the portlets in any place within the page.
    Thanks

    Hi ,
I guess visitor tool (deskop shell property) allows only logged in users to move the portlets. correct me if i am wrong. It would be very helpful if you point me to some good documentation on this.
I would like to have this feature for non-logged in users also. Is it possible in weblogic portal V 10

  • Differences b/w Oracle 10.3.0 and 10.3.2

    Hi all,
I am new to Weblogic.I started the developement with 10.3 and now my team wants to move to 10.3.2 Can any of you please tell me what are all the enhancements/ changes that were made in 10.3.2
I got the release notes of Oracel 10.3.2 but were not sure how they were modified below the list was shown in the Oracles site. Can any one please elaborate how these features were supported earlier and how they got modified now.
Oracle WebLogic Portal 10.3.2 provides tools to build enterprise portal applications.
    This release includes:
    Dynamic Visitor Tools
    Dynamic Visitor Tools extensibility
REST API for unified user profiles
REST support for content management with CMIS
Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse based IDE
WSRP 2.0 compliance and IDE support
JSR 286 compliance and IDE support
JSR 329 portlet bridge for JSF portlets
    Import/Export of Java portlets
    WSRP interoperability with Oracle WebCenter
Content integration with the UCM VCR Adapter
Direct upgrade from WLP 8.1 SP5
    Thanks
    Chandra.

    Hi Chandra
Most of the things are same in WLP 10.3 and WLP 10.3.2 except for 4 Major Changes. Yes, its always better to go with latest version 10.3.2. You can download and start working on this latest version. Now, here are the 4 Major differences:
    1. Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse based IDE - WLP 10.3 uses BEA/Oracles Custom IDE called Workshop. This is based on Eclipse IDE, but still its customized and called Workshop. But WLP 10.3.2 is 100% Eclipse IDE. You may not observer much differences. After you start Workshop in 10.3 and Eclipse for WLP 10.3.2, you will notice very minor differences. One thing I observerd is some features in Eclipse are not avaliable like auto filling of data. So 10.3.2 uses Eclipse.
    2. WSRP interoperability with Oracle WebCenter - WLP 10.3.2 can consume Oracle WebCenter ADFs Portlets using WSRP (WebServices Remote Portlets). This is not possible in WLP 10.3.
    3. Content integration with the UCM VCR Adapter - UCM is Oracles content management repository. Now we can integrate this with WLP. I am not much familiar with internal details. This is possible only in 10.3.2.
    4. Embedded LDAP - WLP 10.3 uses default embedded ldap to store all the security stuff like Roles, Policies, Entitlement etc. But in 10.3.2 WLP uses RDBMS Security Store to store all this stuff. LDAP is not used any more.
The core internal framework, APIs, base weblogic server, console etc are pretty much same in both the versions.
    Thanks

  • Number of desktops

Is there any practical limit to the number of desktops you can create in a portal? For example, can I host 120 customers on one portal site using 120 desktops, or will I run into performance issues, etc.?
    thanks,
    Chad

Again.. why would they need their own desktop.. Is the content TOTALLY different for each company/group?
If not, you could use entitlements and roles to make sure they see what they need too. Also using visitor tools, each company could customize what portlets they want to see.
120 desktops seems like a lot to run on one portal.

header.jsp is the skeleton file for the <netuix:header> control. It's a part of WLP's Look and Feel feature, described here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13155_01/wlp/docs103/portals/develop_ui_lookfeel.html.
If you want to change what is displayed by your <netuix:header> control in regards to its skeleton, you can set its skeletonUri attribute. For example: <netuix:header skeletonUri="/framework/skeletons/default/header1.jsp">

  • Removing NetUI Facets and Upgrading JSF

Even though 11g has promoted the use of JSF and talked of deprecating the NetUI, the facets and frameworks for 10gR3 are littered with NetUI dependencies.
Creating a Web Portal Project gives you the capabilities to use JSF 1.2, but doing this requires you to select JSTL 1.2 and Dynamic Web Modules 2.5, but deselect WebLogic Control Extensions, Beehive NetUI, Beehive Controls, Portal Customizations Framework, Portal Framework, Portal Visitor Tools, and WSRP Producer. Not sure why upgrading to the newer (obviously not the newest version of the API), requires removing all these dependent frameworks.
How will disabling all these project facets effect my Portal project? Are the specific things that I will not be able to take advantage of?
It just doesn't make sense to use a product like WebLogic Portal 10gR3 (released within this year) and then downgrade JSF to version 1.1 just so I can use NetUI...that sounds totally backward thinking.
    Thanks...jay

The forthcoming 11g version of the WLP product will include better support for JSF 1.2 in portal web projects, and remove the hard dependency on Beehive Netui and Controls.
In WLP 10gR3 (10.3.0), you can use JSF 1.2 -- it just requires a bit of manual setup. Please see http://download.oracle.com/technology/products/weblogic/portal/weblogic-portal-jsf-whitepaper.pdf. There are instructions (Section 4.4) on how to setup your project in Workshop to utilize JSF 1.2 in a portal-enabled web project.
