VoIP Headset problems

I have a Motorola H700 that pairs with my computer but will not work with any application (iTunes, Skyype, Vonage softphone).
There are many threads on updating Bluetooth Firmware. But I am not trying to update a plug in USB device. My computer has a built-in Bluetooth module and I am currently running software version 1.7.3f4.
Do I still need to update firmware? I have downloaded v1.2 but cannot get it to update (i get the "no blutooth module installed" message after I click on UPDATE).
Any luck with Motorola headphones and VoIP with a Bluetooth capable Mac? I had a H500 that worked fine with the same computer but sound was poor and I exchanged for the H700. It doesn;t make any sense to me why one headphone will work but another will not.

Using a headset needs several steps even needed if you have the latest computer or Mac OS X release. Please make sure to follow them in order.
Download the Apple Bluetooth Firmware Updater
Install it
Remove as much USB devices from your computer as possible
Launch it from Applications > Utilities > Bluetooth Updater
Apply it to your adapter (takes very long and disconnects your Bluetooth mouse).
Start the Apple Bluetooth Assistant and select Headset. Do not use anything else!
Make your headset Bluetooth visible. Look up the manual of your headset how to do that.
Now select the headset in System Preferences > Sound.
In most cases step 3 is missed. You have to start the already installed updater yourself (do not ask me why). Step 4 fails if you do not have an internal Apple Bluetooth module and your Bluetooth USB adapter is not supported by Apple. In this case, you have to go for a D-Link DBT-120 USB adapter.

  • Speaker and Bluetooth Headset Problem on Lenovo P70

Hello All, I have purchased Lenovo P70 one month ago. This phone is pretty nice for day to day use. But I am facing some peculiar problem as follows: While using any VOIP application like Skype, Viber, Whatsapp, imo (or whatever); if i try to go from earphone to speaker or bluetooth headset mode, I can't hear any sound. The sound nither plays on earphone or on the speaker or bluetooth headset. Even the other party can't here. Even my cheaper Lenovo A329 has no problem doing so. I'm sure this is a software glitch which needs to be fixed. For your information, my build number is P70-A_S129_150320_16g_ROW Kindly let me know if there's any solution.

Hey JameZ, Thanks for your reply. To be honest with you, I haven't tried the headset which came in box. but surely the speaker mode dosen't work properly in any VOIP application. the sound hangs for about 30-40 seconds and even after the sound comes, it goes again. As for BT headset, kindly see the screenshot below to get better idea. Since the BT headset works fine in normal calls, I'm pretty sure, the problem lies in the OS.  If you have the device around, I would urge you to check for yourself for the problem. I have tried the similar things with my friends P70, the problem remains same. Kindly do the needful

    Hi Bungaroosh,
You have presented with certainly an unique situation. I suspect that first of all, the reason the website you rely on opens on your friend's Samsung is that a lot of websites out there have updated their support for more current web development standards....which for some older browsers accessing their websites can cause compatibility/rendering issues. I suspect that the company will want to cater for as many of their customers, and the number of users using severly outdated browsers numbers in the minority.
Firmware updates for the older DCT-4 phones such as your 6230i were only able to be performed via Nokia Care points. I enquried about updating my 7710 a while or so ago, and got the rather flat answer that my device was so old that they no longer had the equipment to update it. I suspect it would be the same in your case.
Not too sure that the HS-10 headset would be compatible with any of the newer Nokia's. There are a number of cheap Nokia newer headsets out there that would work with many of today's newer phones.
I understand your need for a phone that just does phone calls and texts, and the occasional train line check. I would recommend a phone such as the Nokia 110, but since it is using WAP 1.1, am unsure as to how much support it would have with today's websites. A safer bet is to use an Asha phone such as the 202, 203, 300, that has support for the newer websites. These you can get on the cheap these days anyway. And they will all pretty much play MP3's.
The 6230i is a seven year old phone, be proud that you extracted that much usage out of it . There are many newer options out there these days, and maybe there's a bit of a learning curve, but keep your mind open....you could be very pleasantly surprised by the features you gain and enjoy!
    Hope this helps.

  • HS-500 Bluetooth Headset problem

Bought an HS-500 about a month ago.  During a call the headset stops working, the light turns blue and red, and after 5 or 10 seconds, it will reconnect.  By then, the caller usually figures it's a dropped call and hangs up.
Has anyone else had this problem?  Before you suggest it, I already deleted the device, turned my phone off, and turned it back on, paired it again, only to have it happen again.
Problem is the headset was a gift, from an ex, no receipt but I have the original box.  Would BB consider replacing it?  Also the phone I'm using is a Samsung Caliber, but that shouldn't matter since Bluetooth devices are universal, and my last wireless headset worked great until I lost it (different brand, not BB)
Thanks to all for your suggestions.
    Mad respect,
    James R.

I have not seen that happen on my HS-500 in the past. Usually the blue red flashing means pairing mode.
Do you know where it was bought? That is the first place to contact for warranty support.

  • Leopard and Plantronics Voyager 510 headset problem.

I try to post here a message that i've posted in another section of the support board, maybe this is more appropriate with the problem.
I have a plantronics voyager 510 bluetooth headset that i've alway used fine with Tiger. Since it's a multipoint headset, i use it with the mac and the nokia cellphone at the same time. When it was paired with tiger, after powering on the headset, the bluetooth connection was established only in case of need (for example when i received a call with skype). Then, at the end of the call, the bluetooth connection between headset and tiger stopped, so that in case of need i was able use it with the cellphone.
The problem i have with Leopard is that when i switch on the headset, osx start a connection with it immediately, also if it doesn't use it, so that the headset it's always connected and busy for nothing!
This is causing some trouble to me now. Is there any setting i'm missing? Note that in the audio preferences, i told to osx to NOT use the headset at all, which is just configured under the skype audio tab.
    Thanks for your time.

having similar problems w/ 2 different devices since leopard install. both worked fine w/ tiger

  • Beginners headset problem

I appreciate this is not a new subject but perhaps someone out there has a new idea.
I have an Apple eMac with version 10.3.9 installed. I have just bought a Logitech Pro headset and a Vivanco Bluetooth USB dongle (it says it supports Mac OS X) - but I cannot get it all to work.
With the Bluetooth USB I can pair with my iBook G4 with no problems but I cannot get it to pair with the headset. I have run the Bluetooth update 1.5 and also the Firmware Updater 1.2 (the later version of updater says it needs 10.4.6 installed). When I run the installer I get the following message:
This Bluetooth device is not supported
This computer does not have an Apple Bluetooth Module installed. It cannot be updated by this application.
For some reason it did pair briefly with the headset this morning but will not connect and since then they refuse to talk to each other. I now notice that Apple are saying I need to have bought a D-Link Bluetooth module. Is this the only one that works and I have bought the wrong USB although my Vivanco module works with my laptop and the company states that it supports Mac? Any help really appreciated as I getting to the end of my nerves on this one!
    Thanks
    Adrian

The Bluetooth Firmware updater from Apple ONLY updates the built-in bluetooth unit. Since your computer did not come with built-in bluetooth, the firmware updater does not apply to you.
Secondly, you might have to purchase the D-Link bluetooth dongle instead for it to work with your iMac and headset.
HOWEVER, before going down that route, what I'd do is to go to the website of the company that makes your current Bluetooth dongle and see if they have any software updates for that dongle.

  • Maps on N8 headset problem

I have 3 Nokia headsets, BH 212, 217 and 609 none of which work with the Maps app on my N8 and directions are only heard through the handset. In all other ways they work fine. However they all work with my N97 mini. Both handsets have v3.06 Maps. I have rebooted my N8, also reinstalled the phone software with Ovi Suite and reset to factory settings none of which has made any difference. Any ideas anyone?

This query is better anwered when put up at Ovi services board, anyway I'll answer. For offline navigation in Ovi maps you need to download the map data of that particular place, you can use Ovi suite to download maps of various countries. The phone is looking for position because it hasn't got any information about that place.
If a reply has solved your problem click Accept as solution button, doing it will help others know the solution. Thanks.

  • IPhone - music skipping and pausing - headset problem?

I've noticed a problem when I've been out on a run with my iPhone. Late in the run the music will stop and start and skip around. I suspect the problem is in the Apple headset. I think sweat is getting into the mouthpiece/pause-advance gismo and sending false signals to the iPhone. I've also noticed (during runs) that the pause-advance feature is inconsistant; sometimes it advances, sometimes not.
I would like to upgrade the headset to the V-Moda Vibe headset as soon as those are available with the call receive/hangup function.
Has anyone else noticed these problems.

that's funny... that just occured to me last night... thought the phone was buggin out so i restored it... shoulda just did a search on the forums... now i have to reinstall all my 3rd party apps...
i was also at the gym sweatin to the oldies when this occurred... and i do believe it's the head set... i understand the pausing and playin, but sometimes the song will change back and forth and what not... very strange behavior....

  • HS-13 Wireless image headset problem

Hi. I have just purchased the HS-13 Wireless image headset which I have a problem with.
The item works perfectly well for a random period of time. This includes importing contacts, editing contacts, pairing and using the item with my nokia 6680 phone.
EVerything is perfect until it suddenly loses all the contacts and resets itself to factory defaults, including the time and date, for no apparent reason at all. when it does this its impossible to add any contacts again, either manually or using the transfer software, as when each one is added the item resets itself constantly in a loop.
It does this no matter if its paired to my phone or not - ie: as a standalone device. After another random period of time it is able to add contacts again as normal, and retains them, until it happens all over again. It does this even if the battery status is full. Once I found that resetting the item to factory defaults manually fixed it, but it doesnt do anything any more - probably this was co-incidence. So at the moment its not much use to me and I need to return it to my retailer but they have asked me to email support at see what you say about it. Except the support form doesnt work for me and returns a 404 when submitted. (gah!)
I'm pretty sure I'm not at fault in using the item as I'm a complete geek and extremely tech literate and it does seem to be the device having a problem. Can you possibly give me a reply on this as its quite annoying indeed! cheers - malc

yup I finally got it replaced - and like it a lot now. Yes, as you say, it is a bit flakey sometimes, I've had a few restarts as well - every time it happens I think its going to totally break like the first one. Sometimes it just hangs as well, but generally its solid enough. I'd rather have it than one of the earpiece thingies though. Mind you, people look at me strange when I'm using it in shops and stuff. boiboi - malc

  • Using my Plantronics 340 Bluetooth headset as a pc VOIP headset.

I am trying to use my plantronics bluetooth headset with my computer, as a microphone/earphone combination, with the popular gaming VOIP software Teamspeak.
I have a notebook from an other manufacture running XP SP3. My Bluetooth stack is a Toshiba one. I reinstalled the Toshiba drivers/software because it was still using the generic Microsoft ones before, but I can't seem to get it to detect the headset.
What am I doing wrong? Please let me know if you require any more information about my hardware/software configuration in order to answer my query. The system is able to detect bluetooth enabled mobile phones, just not this headset seemingly.

Right click on the Bluetooth systray icon click on New Connection -> Select "Custom Mode" -> ...
Now you should be able to select the headset profile.
By the way if the software can control the headset then use the VoIP option. If you would like to control you headset with button clicks and so on then do not enable the VoIP option during the setup.

  • Bluetooth VoIP Headset for MacBook?

Has anyone come across a Bluetooth headset that works well—that is, sounds tolerable—with a MacBook for VoIP communications?
My Plantronics Voyager 510 is close to worthless.

Today I bought a Plantronics Voyager PLT 510 and tried it with the Mac Pro and Macbook Pro 17". It worked fine with both. The QuickPair feature worked also: It took much less time to pair as in my previous Anycom headset.
I also finally managed to connect Anycom HS-790 that I wrote about yesterday. I removed all bluetooth devices that were registered in my computer. In my Macbook Pro it was a wireless Mighty Mouse and my Mac Pro it was a PDA. My Anycom HS-790 is two years old and I used it with the Macbook Pro and 10.4. before. Now it seems to work also with Leopard: The sound output is OK, but this device has a rather poor input quality. This is the reason why I baught a Plantronics.

The problem is that alsa (assuming that's what you use) doesn't do any card switching automatically - it decides on boot which card will be default, and sticks with that choice, even if the card is not available later on.
If you're using KDE or gnome, you can select the card used in their respective control centers (whatever they're called) - but that only affects programs that are using sound systems from these DEs. Also you can select which card to use in some programs themselves (like skype).
But, if you want to let alsa know which card to use, I think the config file for that is ~/.asoundrc
There's a python script which makes the management a bit easier (since the syntax is not very friendly) - asoundconf. Here's a thread where someone had a similar problem, and also there's a link where you can get the script: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=39230
EDIT: by the way, I have a similar setup as you, and I didn't do any modprobe.conf modifications - the correct modules were loaded automatically.
