Volume control uses same button as ringer - design error

This is really annoying as you can't control volume while the ringer volume control is activated. You have to wait for it to switch. Is there a way around this?

If you watch a video and want to reduce the volume, you press the volume control on the right of the phone and you have to wait for it to switch from ringer volume to phone volume before it will work. This.means I have to sit through seconds of video at the wrong volume as the phone has only one control for both functions

  • Help with using same buttons on timeline

    This is really basic,
I've got 3 buttons on the main timeline, which is 25 frames. All my actions are on frame 14.
Three buttons work on frame 15. But these same 3 buttons stop working on frame 17  - why?
    Please visit link below:
    http://www.simplecelebrations.info

If your code is on frame 14 and your buttons are on frame 15, those buttons can't work unless they were on frame 14 first.  If you place new instances of these buttons on frame 17 but do not assign code for them, they will not work.  When you assign code to objects, such as buttons, they need to be present when that code executes.  So if you execute that code in frame 14, and the buttons are in frame 17, they are not present when that code executes so they cannot work.
What you may find easier to deal with might be to have the buttons span the timeline where they are needed, meaning they have a keyframe at frame 14 where they get coded, and that extends as far down the timeline as you know those buttons need to be accessible.  You do not create new keyframes of them.  Then, if you need to hide the buttons for any reason, then you hide them by setting their visible property to be false. And if you need to display them again, you set it to true.
There is not issue with having different buttons command the same thing, but if you are going to do that, then the different buttons should share the same function.  When I want to share a function or other code, such as variables, I always create a layer that I dedicate to the entire timeline.  It extends from frame 1 thru the last frame of the timeline.  All code on this layer is in frame 1. Any code on this layer is then accessible by anything along the timeline.  Then, as needed, I will have another actions layer that deals with frame level actions.
So what I would do in your case, if you want to use different instances of the same buttons, would be to have the shared layer hold my event handler functions.  Then in my frame level actions layer I would have keyframes where I have the buttons and assign my event listners in those frames.  So if I had identical buttons in frames 15 and 17, but they were different instances, then in frame 15 I would have the same event listener assignments as I do in frame 17.  These listeners would be calling on the same functions that I have in that shared actionscript layer.

  • No volume controls using HDMI on Macbook Pro

I bought a new 13" Macbook Pro to replace a Windows box that died a few days ago.  I have set it up just like my other MacBook Pro and brought it over to my shop to finish the setup.  I connected the HDMI cable to the adapter and the video appeared.  I plugged the headhone input cable into the Mac and tried to play some music - nothing.  Looked at the Preferences and although my headphones volume was max, I had no sounds.  Saw that I had HDMI as a sound option and clicked on it and got immediate sound but no volume control.  It tells me that 'The selected device has no output controls'.  This means I have to access the display menu for any volume changes as opposed to my usual F11/F12 keytaps.
Anyone have a fix for this?  Seems clunky that I am stuck using a non-adjustable audio out with a new computer.  The 27" Samsung monitor is fine and I can't see dropping another grand for a Cinema display like I have at the house when this is fine.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hello there, RickPrice.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps for troubleshooting External Displays:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays

Although most of the content there is for video specific issues, there are a few steps that are always good when troubleshooting. Specifically:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

  • Flash Player 10.1 Plugin : volume control using plugin params?

I have a situation where I need to play third-party SWF files that are not authored by me.  Some of these files contain sound, and some of them are network enabled.   I need to be able to mute these as the audio is terribly annoying.
Is there a way to set the overall volume or mute for the flash player plugin using the object or embed syntax?
The only document I can find for the object/embed syntax is dated May 2008:
Macromedia Flash OBJECT and EMBED tag syntax

Is there a more recent document?
Is there any sort of Volume parameter in 10.1 ?

Hi, that error has to do with permission issues. Go here and read about it regarding Administrator:

  • Frontrow volume control using airtunes

    Hi all,
I discovered a little annoying thing and I am wondering if anyone knows a solution. I have the following setup. Imac intel core duo and airport express. I use iTunes for all my music and have it streaming to my stereo using airtunes.
Using my remote control with my iMac intel core duo, I can adjust the volume of itunes and the volume of the signal going to my stereo. However, if I use frontrow I can only adjust the volume of the iMac itself. The streamed music stays at the same volume and I can only adjust it by using my stereo's volume.
Is this just a little bug, or can I change some setting somewhere?
    thanks.
    Paul

I have finally have solved this by buying Mira, the remote control mapping software. Shame we have to buy additional software to overcome Apple's oversight, but it's worth $16 to sort out this utterly unacceptable flaw in Apple's software. You can programme the Remote to work other apps to so you do at least get extras for your cash. Remember to restart though after changing any options in preference when you have bought the full version – otherwise it won't work properly. Hope this helps. Apple – you still need to sort this properly so people don't have to resort to third party apps. Are you listening? It's a simple patch, that's all.

  • Volume control when using front row with an external audio interface

    Hi,
I got my macbook last week, and so far, I love it. But I've got a small gripe with FrontRow - in my room at college, I have my macbook plugged into an oldish Tascam US-122, which I use a lot for recording. The Tascam is connected to my expensive active speakers, and ideally, I'd like to be able to play back via FrontRow to the Tascam, to the speakers, while retaining remote control. This isn't a problem for selecting Photos/Videos/Music etc, but the problem arises when I want to change the volume - the remote simply controls the volume of the macbook's internal speakers, not affecting the output of the Tascam.
I know I could just connect the speakers via the headphone output, but that would mean more cables, and more chopping and changing system preferences to suit whether I'm making music or just listening.
*So - is there any way at all that I can make the macbook's global volume control (using the volume hotkeys and remote) affect the signal its sending (via USB) to the Tascam?* I know its not impossible, because until recently I used it with a PC running XP, and that allowed me to use the volume control app to boost or cut the Tascam's volume. Perhaps its an issue with the Tascam's OSX driver?
The Tascam has its own physical volume knob, so its not like I'm stuck listening at deafening or very quiet volumes, and I know this sounds like an issue with my laziness rather than FrontRow or the macbook, but surely it defeats the point of FrontRow if I have to walk across the room every time I want to turn the tunes up or down?!
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Thom Bishop

hmm, yeah, thats kinda what i suspected - i reckon this is to do with the way the frontrow interface is set up, but theres no way (as far as i can see) to make everything pass through the main system stereo channel BEFORE going to an external audio interface... which is COMPLETELY bizarre, since system sounds/alerts get passed to the audio interface fine.
and no, i very much doubt whether ANY external audio interface would respond to apple remote (gap in the market, perhaps?).
this would be a fairly simple problem to solve, if only apple were aware of it... of course, i COULD try getting to grips with audio units and seeing if i couldnt fix it myself, but ive frankly not got the time to learn how that works! how can i make apple aware of this issue?? are they already aware??

  • Belle to Play 360 volume control not in sync

When I connect my 808, N8 or C6-01 (all running Belle) to a Play 360 speaker have noticed an inconsistency in the volume control function.
Firstly let me make this easier to explain by pretending that the Belle devices all have 10 volume levels and the Play 360 speaker has 10 volume levels.
Secondly I will explain how I expect the volume controls to work and indeed how it does work on my N95 and N97 (yes I've been very thorough with my testing!):
When I set my phone (N95 or N97) volume to any number from 1 to 10 the speaker plays at exactly that volume level. If I increase or decrease the volume level on my phone (N95 or N97) then the volume level on the Play 360 speaker increases or decreses to match the phone's level.
    Great so far
    This bit is also great...
When I adjust the volume level using the +/- buttons on the Play 360 speaker the phone (N95 or N97) volume level adjusts to match the change. So, no matter how I change the volume the phone and speaker are always in sync, e.g. 1=1, 2=2, 5=5, 10=10.
Now we're getting to the problem...
On my Belle devices, 808, N8 and C6-01 the volume levels only sync with the Play 360 when music is not playing. As soon as I play music the levels become independant of one another.
For example: While the music is paused I can press the - button on the Play 360 to reduce the volume to level 1.  I also do the same on my 808. So now both devices are at level 1. Remember, the music is currently paused. If I increase the volume on the Play 360 I see on the 808 screen that the volume increases there too. Same for decreasing volume too, both stay in sync as long as music is paused.
However, when I start the music playing and press +/- on the Play 360, although the ambient volume changes accordingly, the phone volume level remains the same. This means that even after I've got the Play 360 at max volume, I can then increase it further by using the volume control on the 808.
What you end up with is 10 levels of volume on the Belle phone and ten levels of volume on the Play 360. As long as no music is playing they adjust together. When music plays they adjust independantly.
Wow this is hard to explain.  I think I'll do a video.

    Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQ_3jdKaC_0

  • Volume adjust using keyboard?

Hi is there a way to adjust the volume in OS 9 with a keyboard shortcut?
(assuming of course I dont have the the designated volume key on my keyboard)

    Hi, Silent One -
As far as I know there are no preconfigured keys in OS 9 for volume control, using a keyboard which does not have such as dedicated keys. That's not to say an individual program may not have such - it may, as part of its program-specific menu commands.
However, you should be able to write AppleScripts for those functions, then attach them to FKeys of your choosing via the Keyboard control panel.
You may be able to find usable pre-written scripts at sites like this -
    http://scriptbuilders.net/
You may also be able to use this item in the same way (I've never used it) -

  • Kernel 2.6.10 conflicts with hardware volume control SOLVED

I've just installed a custom 2.6.10 kernel on my Dell laptop, compiled using ABS with the config from my current 2.6.9 kernel, which works perfectly. 2.6.10 boots up fine mostly - one error message about usbdevfs, which is easily corrected - and my hardware seems to be working as with 2.6.9, except for the hardware volume control - Fn + PgUp/PgDown, also dedicated buttons on the left hand side of the machine. These work fine under 2.6.9, and volume adjustments made with them can be seen in realtime in alsamixer. With 2.6.10, however, as soon as I touch them, the laptop freezes up completely, and can only be rescued with a hard reset.
Software volume control using alsamixer or the xfce volume control works fine. I'll be digging around for ideas about this, but if anyone has any suggestions, they would be appreciated.
    TIA.

Thanks i3839 - I thought this thread was dead and buried.
I'll definitely give 2.6.11 a shot when it arrives, but I hadn't thought of trying an rc - good idea.
I'm not sure where to go with finding the cause - there's nothing in the logs, and xev doesn't register the relevant keys/buttons. I've already double checked the 2.6.9 downgrade, and it definitely does work with that kernel.
The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5000 with 650MHz PIII Coppermine and 384MB RAM.
    <edit>
Just dropped in to kernel.org, and 2.6.11 was released today.

  • Mute/unmute volume controls by LabVIEW pragramaticlly ??

    Hi all,
Can somebody help me to figure out how I can mute and unmute different volume controls using winmm.dll. I have come across this post ( see below) that shows how to control individual volume controls but I am more interested how to mute or unmute these controls programmaticlly by calling winmm.dll. So specifically I am looking for something were I can send a Boolean true (mute ON) or false (mute OFF) that will to the task.
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=22278&requireLogin=False
I have been looking under "Mixercontroldetail_Boolean" under http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa910066.aspx but I am having very difficult time to configure it properly so that it can do its task. I would really appreciate if somebody can help me on this because I am running out of ideas.
    Thanks

    nxb,
Have you considered using the waveOutSetVolume function inside winmm.dll, and writing '0' to mute the volume or '65535' to unmute the volume.
I have attached an example that achieves this functionality:

  • Qosmio G35-600 - Advanced controls of volume control

    Hello,
I have a Qosmio G35-600. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure my volume control use to have advanced controls and I had access to the input monitor, which is now greyed out. I reinstalled my SigmaTel Audio Driver (qg600audiox.exe), but that did return the advanced controls nor give access to the input monitor. The volume control is Microsoft volume control version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_odr.101209-1647: Service Pack 3).
    Any ideas?
    Thank you in advance

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
When you right click the volume icon in the system tray and click Open Volume Control, I see the following headings:
Volume Control, Wave, SW Synth, CD Player, Input Monitor. Input Monitor is greyed out.
Also, in the Volume Control window, there is Options>Advanced Controls. Advanced Controls is greyed out.
There are no yellow marks or unknown devices listed in the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers section of the Device Manager.

    5. Question: I am no longer able to use the volume control buttons ( /-/or mute) on my key board in Windows 7

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50856.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

  • Computer Freezes When Volume Control Buttons Used T61p

Originally I had Vista on my T61p, but everytime i changed the volume whether through the built in buttons or through the icon by the clock, the computer would freeze. I could however change the volume if I went through the volume controls located under the control panel. Wanting XP anyway, I went ahead and had a computer repair place install XP wiping all my data and doing a new install. However, this volume freezing problem still occurs.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Lenowner

Hello, thank you for the response.
I could try that, but the thing is, this only happens rarely. I don't know if there is any way to deliberately cause this, but freezing the computer is not the most pleasant thing, because it requires closing it by using the physical button on the computer, rather than the Windows Shutdown command.
