VSS support

I've just started evaluting JDeveloper and like it so far. One thing I was wondering is if there are any Visual Source Safe support - something I need to have unfortunately.
I only find CVS as default and Google didn't help me out there, maybe someone here knows about it?
Best regards
Stefan

No VSS support right now.
We do have support for CVS, Clearcase, Perforce, and Serena Dimension.
(see the help->check for updates).
Support for Subversion and Windows Team Server is being developed right now.
For a simple way to integrate with third party version control tools see this one:

Is VSS supported in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2?

VSS support (converting standalone switches into a VSS)  was introduced with LMS 3.0.1 if I remember well and it is still there in LMS 4.2 (Cisco Prime Infrastructure):

  • JDeveloper 11 and VSS Support?

The VSS Extension (available at sourceforge.net) does not work with JDev 11 (Just JDev 10). Are there plans for VSS Support in JDev 11, or am I better off convincing my management that JDeveloper projects should use either Subversion or CVS?
Edited by: klee on Oct 22, 2008 10:26 AM

This extension is open source - so you can take on the task of upgrading it to support JDeveloper 11g :-)
As for us at Oracle we don't have plans to do development around supporting VSS - we do have support for MS Team Studio though.
I would recommend that you push your managers towards using Subversion - the fact that it is a free tool and a very popular tool in the Java community should be enough of an argument - and the fact that the support in JDeveloper is built-in can be the cherry on the cake.

  • VSS support on cat 4500x

    Hi,
when the VSS will be supported on Catalyst Supervisor Engine 7-E or 7-LE and on Catalyst 4500-X?
And does VSS will require Enterprise license ? or the IP base will be enaugh?
    Tks
    Paolo

    Hi,
Is there any info on the VSS license for SUP7L-E ?
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/release/note/OL_27990-01.html
Under Table 5 - Support by Image Type; VSS is listed as available on IP Base (SUP7E only) and a plain Yes under Enterprise Services
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps10902/ps12332/at_a_glance_c45-696645.pdf
Under Table 1 - Minimum License for VSS; IP Base or higher (7-E) or special license (7-LE and Catalyst 4500-X)
There appears to be no option on the CCO configuration tools to add VSS license on 4500R+E chasiss bundles with for example dual SUP7L-E and IP Base
How are you meant to purchase/license VSS on 4500E Chassis + SUP7L-E ?
    thanks,

    Regards,
    Fariha

Check out the follow link from the ACE release notes.

    Virtual Switching System Support
The ACE10 and the ACE20 running ACE software version A2(1.2) or later and installed in a Catalyst 6500 series switch running IOS software version 12.2(33)SXI or later support the Virtual Switching System (VSS). VSS is a system virtualization technology that allows the pooling of multiple Catalyst 6500 switches into a single virtual switch for increased operational efficiency by simplifying the network. Inter-chassis Supervisor switchover (SSO) boosts non-stop communication. For more information about VSS, see the Cisco IOS Version 12.2(33)SXI Configuration Guide.

  • VSS support on 4500 Sup 8e

  • Can not access FWSM via session command in cisco 6513 (VSS enabled)

    Dear All,
Today i received FWSM from cisco (RMA), I need to configure it as standby unit for existing FWSM active/standby setup.
IOS on RMAed FWSM is 2.3.4 and  cisco VSS supports FWSM IOS 4.0.4 and later.
My issue is, I cannot access FWSM (IOS 2.3.4) via session command from cisco 6513 but could successfully consoled it without any problem. I have reloaded it twice and also tried to disable and enable power on it.

You can also type 'exit' at the remote prompt to end the session
    Trying 127.0.1.21 ...
% Connection timed out; remote host not responding
Can someone please let me know why I cannot access FWSM through session command ?
Whether this is because of older IOS ? If yes then how to upgrade its IOS ?
Is it possible to upgrade IOS via FWSM console ? if yes, please let me know.
Do i need to test on different slot ?
Look forward to hearing from someone.
    Thanks & Regards
    Ahmed...

There is a limitation that FWSM running version older than 4.0.4 will not accept session from the switch if the FWSM is not seated into switch 1 AND if switch 1 is not active.
So to upgrade the FWSM you either need to use the console or put the FWSM physically in switch 1.
    Thanks,
    Jeroen

  • Are Hyper-V 2012R2 checkpoints Application data consistent? How does it use now VSS during checkpoints creation?

Are Hyper-V 2012R2 checkpoints Application data consistent? How does it now use VSS during checkpoints creation?
I read the article http://www.aidanfinn.com/?p=15759 that now WS2012 R2 Hyper-V changed how it performs backups.
That is unofficial info.  I can't find any info about that in msdn, but that is critical. That is about data integrity.
    Is this true?
Does this mean that we may not use VSS in Hyper V server backup application any more? Will Hyper-V 2012R2 host (WM is running) when i am creating a checkpoint,
call VSS to only flush VSS Writers during this process for target child VM to make application data crash consistent state? And the volume shadow copy wn't be used? Only vhdx +avhdx witch will merged later, right?

There are a couple levels to this.
If VSS is there, VSS is used (just as before).  But there is a bit more happening around it than simply placing the VM in a saved state.
However, if VSS is not there (in the VM) then the behavior is slightly different (this is really to support Linux VMs that don't support VSS) - and still achieve a good VM backup.
In another blog post I see it described this way:
Online backup for Linux VMs – even though there’s no VSS support in Linux, the Microsoft guys have managed to find a way to create consistent backups of running Linux VMs, by doing what’s essentially called a “filesystem freeze” by briefly stopping
all disk I/O inside the VM until the host creates a VSS snapshot of the VM on the host (thus getting a file-consistent backup with zero downtime) – once the snapshot is done, disk I/O is resumed and then the actual file copy process starts
    Flemming shows the process here:
    http://flemmingriis.com/changes-in-hyper-v-backup-in-2012-r2/
If you are calling VSS to perform a backup - nothing has changed.  The only thing that has changed is the 'how it happens' , not the 'what you get' and 'how you call it'
This way if you call VSS to perform a backup - you get a good one, no matter the OS in the VM, nor its support for VSS.

  • Problem clicking on Read Only Logical Beans/Bean Modules

    Hi,
I'm using Sun Java Studio 5 update 1 and use MS VSS to control my source. I have not integrated VSS with the s1s5. When I click on a read only module of beans, the ide pops up a whole lot of messages saying that it can't lock files because they are read only. So, I have to manually remove the read only attribute of the files, specially the .entejb and the .ejbdd files. This is a huge burden to me since some of my modules have more than 50 beans inside and it gives 50x2 popup messages when I expand the module.
can anybody give me a solution to this?
    Thank you.

Have you tried mounting as a Version Control filesystem. There is a topic in the Online Help titled "EJB Module Node" that might be helpful. It only mentions CVS and Clearcase as supported control systems. This might be because the topic was written before VSS support was added.

  • 4500-X vs 6880-X for Core/Distribution

    Hi,
We are in the process of looking at upgrading our eight year old Cisco network to something newer.
Currently we have a 6500 for core/distribution with about 40+ 1 gig fibre links running out to access layer switches. (3560 and 3560X)
The whole design is routed with the links from core/distribtion to access all being layer 3.  The intent was to dual attach access layer switches to 6500s in two buildings but this was never actually implemented.
The new design uses 3650 switches at the access layer, and a recommendation to use the 6880-X for core/distribution.  This time around key buildings will be dual attached and I expect we will keep the routed design.  9396PX will be introduced at the datacenter layer.
It looks to be like the 6880-X is a pretty limited unit.  No real path to 40 or 100 gig, no redundant supervisors, just a big box of 10 Gig ports.
I am assuming the cost on a 6807 chassis is just going to be too high, although 40 G and 100G are either available today or on the roadmap.
I am trying to figure out why two 4500-X with Enterprise software in VSS mode isn't a better fit.  The port count is good at 80 (between the two), it has more bandwidth, features like MACSEC and SGT are on the develpment radar (if not already implemented), and two of these in VSS means I can perform a firmware update with minimal down time.
I plan to implement ISE in 2015 so having a platform that is going to work with ISE is really important to me.
    Thanks
    Murray

Wow, amazing that noone answered such a real world question. I had like 2 similar cases within the last 2 months!!!
I normaly really like 4500X, it´s a powefull 1U 10G unit, and I myself am a fan of VSS, so - I agree with you, that should be a first choice! (btw - 6880 also supports VSS)
When to use 6880X? Well, I had a case recently with 45 3750X stacks in the core, so 80 ports in total wouldnt even cover a port-channel per stack, so - I used 6880X. How do I see this switch? As a moderatly priced almost-Nexus alternative for Campus with 10G with a VSS support.
To sum it up - yeah, I´d use 4500X if I were you...
    Cheers!
