WAAS support SMB2?
Does WAAS support SMB2? When or what version?
SMB2 is better than SMB/CIFS and can be used between Vista/7 and Windows 2008. Also SMB2 uses newReno TCP algorithm that is better for high loss environments.
Thanks
The CIFS AO does not currently support SMBv2. We are working on this for a future release. Based on our initial testing, there is still plently of opportunity for acceleration improvements even with the changes that have been made to the protocol.
The TCP enhancements are somewhat irrelevant, except on thier potential to improve the behavior of TCP on the client <-> WAE and WAE <-> server segments. The WAAS optimized connections have had the performance improvements in the new Windows TCP stack for some time.

Hi,
As the topic says does WAAS support acceleration of https traffic? If so where can I find this information?
Also and more importantly where can I find performance and scalability information (Max Opt tcp connections, WAN capacity etc.) for WAAS and WAVE devices?HTTPS is currently only accelerated with TFO (no compression or AO) in WAAS 4.1.1 and before. HTTPS support is being introduced with a Application Optimizer in the upcoming release WAAS 4.1.3. 4.1.3 will allow optimization past TFO to include Full Optimization, etc.
Look for a late March release date with more information on the HTTPS AO as well as Scaling information at that time.
The current scalability numbers can be obtained from your partner and/or sales team, which would probably be the best way to review all the models.
Thanks,

WAAS support by non WCCPv2 switches ?
My company is considering a evaluation / test of the WAAS etechnology. We already use 2811 remote routers and core 7206 routers. Our switching is by Enterasys (Cabletron). Enterasys switches do not support WCCPv2. Will we be required to upgrate to Cisco switches to get the WCCPv2 support? Does WAAS require WCCPv2 ?
Mike,
WAAS does not require WCCP for interception. You can also use Policy-Based Routing (PBR), although I'm not sure if there is an equivilant on Enterasys switches.
Can you not run WCCP on the 2811 and 7206 routers?

WAAS - Bandwidth Management support?
WAAS - Bandwidth Management support?
Sorry, I had a problem with the web. My comment was:
I know that other products such as Juniper's WXC supports Bandwidth Management. Does Cisco WAAS support it too?
Bandwidth Management means:
- Guarantee a minimum bandwidth for your most critical applications.
- Set maximum bandwidths to limit (or drop) low-priority traffic.
- Set priorities to determine how the âexcessâ bandwidth is allocated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, does Cisco WAAS support IPv6 today?
thank you, AdrianAdrian,
Future releases may have support for IPv6.
WAAS 6.x or above probably may have it.

I am trying to configure tacacs on a WAAS device using 4.1.1c. I have configured the tacacs server to allow the user to login using privilege level 7 then the user is required to enable the device and login again to reach privilege level 15.
When ever i login then enable the device I am getting the following error
Error: Wrong Admin Password. Try again...
I can get the user to login straight to level 15 but this doesn't follow our security requriements.
has anyone seen this before or experienced this issue?
Thanks
MattMatt,
The current TACACS implementation in WAAS supports command levels 0 and 15. Levels 1-14 are downgraded to 0.

WAAS (WAE-512/612) NIC teaming?
Hi,
I've got a customer who wants to know if we can dual-home the WAAS appliances he purchased. Do the WAE-512 or 612's support any type of NIC teaming or active/passive on the NIC's?
Thanks for any help or clarification!
BradBrad,
WAAS supports two (2) types of physical interface redundancy:

Support 802.1q at WAE device?
Hi.
I'm sy jeon
I wonder if the cisco WAAS support 802.1q.
We are planing to attach the cisco wae to ethernet switch.
as you know, we should configure the two vlan to WAE, one for PBR, wccpv2, other to return the traffic to router.
if so,How can I configure 802.1q in WAE,
if our network configuration is incorrect, please give me advide about that.
Thank you.Hello Sy,
Cisco WAAS does support 802.1Q. It depends on your deployment setup. If you are using WCCP, there will be no need to configure dot1q trunk as the traffic will be handled either by redirect/return method. For the return method, it can be either ip forwarding (WAAS will used configured default gateway) or GRE Return if using a configured egress method of negotiated return or Generic GRE.
If you are using inline interception, meaning you will be using an inline card to intercept the traffic, then you can configure dot1q trunk for the inline ports and define which VLANs you would like to intercept and optimize traffic on.
Let me know if this answers your question.

Cisco Catalyst 4503 + WAAS with WCCP
Hello community!
Do I need to intercept traffic with WCCP on a Cisco Catalyst 4503! Does anyone have a sample configuration for this scenario?
I tried several settings, but without success.
I have this alarm in Cisco WAAS:
WCCP router 10.10.10.10 unusable for service id: 62 reason: Assignment method mismatch with router
Thank's
David ThimottiWCCP router 10.10.10.10 unusable for service id: 62 reason: Assignment method mismatch with router
That indicates your WAAS device is sending an assignment method (probably HASH) that is not supported by this 4500.
In the 4500 scenario WAAS must be L2 adjacent, and configured for L2-redirect and MASK assignment, and L2-return (if your version of WAAS supports it).
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12.2/15.02SG/configuration/guide/wccp.html#wp1000978
I'm not sure what version of WAAS you are running.
If running WAAS 5.x your config will look like this (since the defaults are l2-redirct, mask, and l2 return).
wccp router-list 1 10.10.10.10
wccp tcp-promiscuous service-pair 61 62
router-list-num 1
enable
exit
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v531/command/reference/glob_cfg.html#wp2067854
If running WAAS 4.x your config will look like this:
wccp version 2
wccp router-list 1 10.10.10.10
wccp tcp-promiscuous service-pair 61 62 failure-detection 30

Hi Cisco,
i wanted to know if hard drives are same for below WAAS models and are inter-changeable between them.
WAE-612-K9 --> WAVE-694-K9
WAE-7371-K9 --> WAVE-8541-K9
Note : I need a Cisco TAC engineer specialized in WAAS helping me answering the query.WCCP not supported on tunnel interfaces for 6500 & 7600 interfaces. Other than that okay.
see below.
Cisco WAAS supports asymmetric routing through the use of sharing network interception and redirection configuration across WAN boundary routers within a location. If all routers that connect a location to the WAN are participating in the same WCCPv2 service groups or have the same list of WAEs configured as next-hop routers (in the same order), the same WAE will receive redirected traffic regardless of the WAN link that traffic was destined to or coming in from.
For instance, if a customer has two WAN connections - one going to provider #1 and another going to provider #2, WCCPv2 can be configured such that the routers participate in the same WCCPv2 service groups, and the WAEs can be configured to register with both of the routers. This also requires that the WCCPv2 redirection configuration be applied identically across each of the routers within the same location, i.e. use of 61/in on the LAN side on both routers and 62/out on the LAN side on both routers (or any valid combination of 61/62 in/out as long as they are identical amongst all routers within the location).
As traffic enters a WAN boundary router, it will determine which WAE to redirect the traffic to based on a hash of either the source IP (service group 61 in the network path) or destination IP (service group 62 in the network path). The allocated hash buckets are synchronized within the service group, and the hash value obtained at either router will be the same as it would be had the traffic been forwarded through the opposite router. In this way, traffic is always redirected to the same WAE every time, regardless of which WAN link is used, or which router the traffic was forwarded to or through. As such, Cisco WAAS provides support for environments where asymmetric routing may be encountered. -

There can be a number of reasons for this from SMB compatibility issues (2003 servers wont support SMB2), to the expected and actual computer name of the boxes don't match (tries to authenticate with server.tld.com when the actual name is srv-01.tld.com and
you just put a C-name in). I'd start from the top: Try opening said share from the Primary Site server as that's the box doing the work. Verify the IP and computer name is legit and that no one has played ACL games between the two systems (remember
RPC only initiates/listens on port 135 but established connections are up in the dynamic port range).
At the end of the day it's an issues "underneath" SCCM, and not an SCCM problem specifically. -
Chome Browser on Mavericks won't show saved url's
I have a Macbook Air running Mavericks. When using the Chrome browser for Mac, all url's saved as favorites show the full url and not the shortened, annotated webpage description. So, I can't tell from looking at the url what it is for. Its not like this on other platforms. Is this a setting or a program limitation?
Mavericks dropped AFP.
You must use SMB2 instead.
Does your Nas support SMB2?

I just received a brand new WAVE-574 for our branch office, and noticed that it was shipped with a single drive configuration. I just bought an additional hard drive from Cisco to go into this WAVE-574 so the disks are configured in a RAID 1 for redandancy. I have been looking for configuration and setup instructions, but without any luck so far.
Could you please let me know the setup procedures?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!Hi Rocky,
The links I provided are config guide links and you only need appropriate CCO id to access them. I do not think these are partner only links.
Let me paste some of the details from the links provided by me and Fabio here:
Replacing a Hard Disk Drive
The WAVE appliance supports as many as two 3.5-inch (Large Form Factor) SATA hard drives.
When replacing hard drives to the WAVE appliance, observe the following general guidelines:
•The system automatically sets all drive numbers.
•If only one hard drive is used, install it in the bay with the lowest drive number.
•Drives must be the same capacity to provide the greatest storage space efficiency when drives are grouped together into the same drive array.
Note All hard disk drives being used in the appliance must be identical.
Caution To maintain proper system cooling, do not operate the appliance for more than 10 minutes without either a hard disk drive or a filler panel installed in each bay.
To replace a hard disk drive in a bay, follow these steps:
Step 1 Review the information in the "Safety Warnings and Cautions" section on page 2-2 and the "Safety Guidelines" section on page 2-3.
Step 2 Make sure that the chassis cover is in place and fully closed.
Step 3 Power down the device and and disconnect the power cord and all external cables.
Step 4 Slide the latch and then pull out the handle (see Figure 4-4).
Figure 4-4 Removing a Hard Disk Drive
Step 5 Pull the drive assembly from the bay.
Step 6 Wait 1 minute and then insert the new drive into the same slot by aligning the replacement drive assembly with guide rails in the bay and sliding the drive assembly into the bay until it stops. Make sure that the drive is properly seated in the bay.
Step 7 Close the drive handle.
Step 8 Reboot the WAVE appliance.
Step 9 Check the hard disk drive status LED after the system has booted to verify that the hard disk drive is operating correctly. If the amber hard disk drive status LED for a drive is lit continuously, that drive is faulty and must be replaced. If the green hard disk drive activity LED is flashing, the drive is being accessed.
Step 10 Wait 1 minute and then verify that the replaced disk drive is in the Rebuilding state by using the show disks details command in EXEC mode.
Note The system automatically starts the rebuild operation when it detects the removal and reinsertion of a drive that is part of the logical RAID drive.
Step 11 Wait until the rebuild operation is complete. A disk rebuild operation may take several hours. You can check if the rebuild operation is complete by using the show disk details command in EXEC mode. The physical drive state will be Online and the RAID logical drive state will be Okay after the rebuild operation is completed.
Step 12 Use the show disk tech command in EXEC mode to verify that the firmware and BIOS information is correct for both hard drives.
If you have multiple disk failures and your RAID-1 logical status is Offline, you must recreate the RAID-1 array. For more information on disk removal and replacement procedures, see the Cisco Wide Area Application Services Configuration Guide, Chapter 15, "Maintaining Your WAAS System."
Performing Disk Maintenance for RAID-1 Systems
WAAS supports hot-swap functionality for both failed disk replacement and scheduled disk maintenance. When a disk fails, WAAS automatically detects the disk failure, marks the disk as bad, and removes the disk from the RAID-1 volume. To schedule disk maintenance, you must manually shut down the disk.
You must wait for the disk to be completely shut down before you physically remove the disk from the WAE. When the RAID removal process is complete, WAAS generates a disk failure alarm and trap. In addition, a syslog ERROR message is logged.
Note If the removal event (such as, a disk failure or software shutdown) occurs while the RAID array is in the rebuild process, the RAID removal process may take up to 1 minute to complete. The duration of this process depends on the size of the disk.
If the WAAS software removes a failed disk during the RAID rebuild process, a RAID rebuild failure alarm is generated. If you administratively shut down the disk during the RAID rebuild process, a RAID rebuild abort alarm is generated instead.
When you install a replacement disk, the WAAS software detects the replacement disk and performs compatibility checks on the disk, initializes the disk by creating partitions, and adds the disk to the software RAID to start the RAID rebuild process.
If the newly inserted disk has the same disk ID as a disk that was previously marked bad in the same physical slot, then the disk will not be mounted, and the post-replacement checks, initialization, and RAID rebuilding will not occur.
A newly installed disk must be of the same type as the old disk and it must meet the following compatibility requirements:
•If the replacement disk is for disk00, disk02, or disk04 of a RAID pair, the replacement disk must be the same size as the running disk in the array.
•If the replacement disk is for disk01, disk03, or disk05 of a RAID pair, then the replacement disk must have the same or greater RAID capacity as the running disk in the array.
Compatibility checks, which are part of the hot-swap process, check for capacity compatibility. Incompatibility generates an alarm and aborts the hot-swap process.
Table 15-3 shows the drive-type compatibility for the WAE-612. All drives must be the same type.
Table 15-3 WAE-612 Drive-Type Compatibility Matrix
Drive Types SAS1 SATA22
SAS
Ok
No
SATA2
No
Ok
1 Serial Attached SCSI
2 Serial Advanced Technology Attachment 2
To perform disk maintenance, follow these steps:
Step 1 Manually shut down the disk.
a. Enter the disk disk-name diskxx shutdown command in global configuration mode.
b. Wait for the disk to be completely shut down before you physically remove the disk from the WAE. When the RAID removal process is complete, WAAS generates a disk failure alarm and trap. In addition, a syslog ERROR message is logged.
Note We recommend that you disable the disk error-handling reload option, if enabled, because it is not necessary to power down the system to remove a disk.
Step 2 Insert a replacement disk into the slot in the WAE. The replacement disk must have a disk ID number that is different from the disk that it is replacing.
Step 3 Reenable the disk by entering the no disk disk-name diskxx shutdown global configuration command. -
Is FSCTL_SET_OBJECT_ID supported in smb2?
In the spec i was not able to find if FSCTL_SET_OBJECT_ID is supported in SMB2. Please let me know.
Hi,
I did some research and noticed this article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa364593(v=vs.85).aspx
It mentioned that SMB3.0 is supported and minimum supported client and server are Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, which do not support SMB3. Thus I think SMB2 should be supported as well.
If you would like to discuss this topic further and if it related to development, it is recommended to post a new thread to MSDN:

If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected] -
