Webservice based on PL/SQL function - ORA-04068

Hi,
we have a problem here with PL/SQL based webservices. If the PL/SQL package gets invalid then the very first request to the webservice results in:
java.sql.SQLException:
ORA-04068: existing state of packages has been discarded
ORA-04061: existing state of package "TUG_NEW.WBSERVICES" has been invalidated
ORA-04065: not executed, altered or dropped package "TUG_NEW.WBSERVICES"
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called ORA-06512: at line 1
Any workarounds? Shouldn't the package become recompiled automatically when it was invalid?
Thanks, Christian

the caller gets an error on the first request. from the second request on it works ... indicates the package is not yet recompiled when the first request is sent. When the second request is sent, the package has been recompiled.

  • Materialized View with column based on PL/SQL function returning object

    I have the following problem - it is known that materialized view wants PL/SQL functions used in it to be DETERMINISTIC. And it appears that a function which returns SDO_GEOMETRY cannot be DETERMINISTIC - I can add DETERMINISTIC modifier to my function which returns sdo_geometry based on USNG grid ID and save the package, and it compiles and runs fine with regular queries, but when it comes to materialized view (mview), the following error is thrown:
    ORA-12018: following error encountered during code generation for "SCHEMA"."MVIEW_NAME"
    ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected NUMBER got MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY
    Looks like DETERMINISTIC modifier is not fully supported for object types. I have tried to use SDO_CS.FROM_USNG Oracle's function, and it appeared that this function is also non-deterministic - I cannot refresh mview with P or F on-demand refresh method (see http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14223/refresh.htm#i1008349 for a list of on-demand refresh methods). Without that function I can refresh mview with P or F flags.

    Hi,
    Yes, the Chart Series can be based on "Function Returing SQL Query" and the "SQL" would be something like:
    DECLARE
    vSQL VARCHAR2(1000);
    BEGIN
    vSQL := 'SELECT NULL LINK, ENAME LABEL, SAL VALUE FROM EMP ORDER BY ENAME';
    RETURN vSQL;
    END;You should tick the "Save query without validation" underneath that. Without this, there is a validation error - the ; at the end is required to get the chart to function correctly but the validator sees this as an error.
    You would need to create this separately from the report. No matter how you did it, the chart would still run a SQL statement to generate the output. If you wanted to use the "same data", then you could create a collection using the PL/SQL and base both the report and the chart on the collection instead.

    I've been tasked with dynamically applying security to an XMLType input sample as a post XML generation process (on an 11g R2 DB) based on several parameters. The best way to describe it is with an example block of code, I need to write ApplySecurity....

      function ApplySecurity(pXML        XMLType,
                             pSecurityID integer,    -- A Security identifier

                             pAttribPath varchar2    -- Relative XPath to pDataIDPath where we want the security result attribute stored

    */I have tried several approaches like iterating using a dynamically created XMLTable and calling InsertChildXML for each iteration, but that seems messy and inefficient as the call to InsertChildXML will have to locate the correct node each time. Ideally I think the best solution would be to do it with XQuery, but online examples are few and far between and I don't know how I'd call a PL/SQL function as part of an XQuery iteration as well as passing in the path information.
    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

    A funnier option, adapted from http://odieweblog.wordpress.com/2012/06/19/how-to-update-xml-nodes-with-values-from-same-doc/ :

      queryString := replace(queryString, '#DATA-ID-PATH#', pDataIDPath);
      queryString := replace(queryString, '#ATTRIB-PATH#', pAttribPath);
      execute immediate queryString into vXML using vXML, BONUS_SEC, vXML ;
      dbms_output.put_line(vXML.getclobval);

    /probably slower though.

  • Interactive Report based on pl/sql function body

    Can an interactive report be based on a pl/sql function body returning the query sql? Or does it have to be based directly on the SQL?
    Thanks

    Hello "unknown user",
    As far is I know an Interactive Report can only be based on 'regular' SQL. If you have a Report based on a 'PL/SQL function body returning SQL' the option to migrate the report to an interactive report is not there.

  • SVG multiline chart based on PL/SQL function

    Dear all -
    Having trawled this forum and with a fair bit of experimentation I've concluded that:
    1. Generating an SVG line series using a PL/SQL function returning a SQL statement is perfectly possible;
    BUT
    2. It only works for a single series. Adding further series blanks out the SVG chart area and nothing at all is displayed.
    Can anyone tell me if this is right or am I missing a trick? The usual problems such as ordering, nulls etc. don't apply in this case.
    Thanks for your time.
    John.

    On some, but not all SVG line charts, I had trouble when some values are ZERO.
    Putting a CASE WHEN var = 0 then 0.05 ELSE var END in the select statement
    fixed those situations.
    I had missing lines when the number of data points in a series exceeded the default number of 15, and I did not set in the series configuration to a number equal to or higher that the number of data points in that series.
    And I had one instance, where a couple missing lines reappeared when I exited
    the browser and app completely and restarted the app.

  • Javascript based on PL/SQL function.

    Hey all,
    I'm developing an application with Apex and have run into a problem.
    I have a form page with the standard create, delete and cancel buttons. I need to be able to click the Create button, which will run a PL/SQL query, and based on the return of the function, either just continue the Insert to the table, or generate a popup warning, and then complete the table insert.
    I was thinking of having a Process that ran the javascript, and was conditional on the PL/SQL query, however i haven't had much luck.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brett Crowley.

    Hello Brett,
    >> I was thinking of having a Process that ran the javascript, and was conditional on the PL/SQL query, however i haven't had much luck.
    APEX Processes are server-side resources, while JavaScript is a client-side resource. As such, you can’t invoke JavaScript code from within a PL/SQL code. However, the reverse direction – invoking PL/SQL code from a JavaScript code – is possible by using AJAX. In general, using AJAX allows you to call to an APEX on-demand PL/SQL (application) process, which in turn can return a result to the calling JavaScript code. In this point, based on the returned result, you can decide whether to issue an alert box or (programmatically) submit the page for further processing.
    This forum includes many example of using AJAX, and I believe that the following article can also be a helpful starting point.

  • Application Report Missing PL/SQL Functional Area

    All,
    I just wanted to bring to the ApEx developers something I just noticed... I use the Shared Components > Database Object Dependencies report to make sure all is well before moving applications into production.
    The Parsing Errors feature of that report is WONDERFUL! But it seems to be overlooking buttons that use a conditional display based on PL/SQL Function Body Returning a Boolean.

    Hi Dan,
    I think the place is perfect, but I read once somewhere that "Bug" or "Bug Report" should be in the subject so that's easier to find for the Oracle guys.

  • PL/SQL function body returning SQL - report error:ORA-01403: no data found

    Hi,
    I am working on Application Express 4.0.2.00.06, and 11G database.
    I have a problem with classic report area of type - PL/SQL function body returning SQL query. Query works if I define region area as - Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only), and does not when I define it - Use Query-Specific Column Names and Validate Query.
    I am getting error:
    report error:ORA-01403: no data found
    This is my query that is returned from function, and displayed with htp.p, and it works ok and returns data in SQL Developer and SQL Workshop (in Apex).

  • PL/SQL function body returning SQL query - ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error

    I'm attempting to dynamically generate a rather large SQL query via the "PL/SQL function body returning SQL query" report region option.  The SQL query generated will possibly be over 32K.  When I execute my page, I sometimes receive the "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error" which points to a larger than 32K query that was generated.  I've seen other posts in the forum related to this dynamic SQL size limitation issue, but they are older (pre-2010) and point to the 32K limit of the DNS (EXECUTE IMMEDIATE) and DBMS_SQL.  I found this post (dynamic sql enhancements in 11g) which discusses 11g no longer having the 32K size limitation for generating dynamic SQL.  Our environment is on 11gR2 and using ApEx 4.2.1.  I do not know which dynamic SQL method -- DNS or DBMS_SQL -- ApEx 4.2.1 is using.  Can someone clarify for me which dynamic SQL method ApEx uses to implement the "PL/SQL function body returning SQL query" option?
    As a test, I created a page on apex.oracle.com with a report region with the following source:
    declare
      l_stub varchar2(25) := 'select * from sys.dual ';
      l_sql  clob := l_stub || 'union all ';
      br     number(3) := 33;
    begin
      while length ( l_sql ) < 34000 loop
        l_sql := l_sql || l_stub || 'union all ';
      end loop;
      l_sql := l_sql || l_stub;
      for i in 1 .. ceil ( length ( l_sql ) / br ) loop
        dbms_output.put_line ( dbms_lob.substr ( l_sql, br, ( ( i - 1 ) * br ) + 1 ) );
      end loop;
      return l_sql;
    end;
    The dbms_output section is there to be able to run this code in SQL*Plus and confirm the size of the SQL is indeed larger than 32K.  When running this in SQL*Plus, the procedure is successful and produces a proper SQL statement which can be executed.  When I put this into the report region on apex.oracle.com, I get the ORA-06502 error.
    I can certainly implement a work-around for my issue by creating a 'Before Header' process on the page which populates an ApEx collection with the data I am returning and then the report can simply select from the collection, but according to documentation, the above 32K limitation should be resolved in 11g.  Thoughts?
    Shane.

    What setting do you use in your report properties - especially in Type and in Region Source?
    If you have Type="SQL Query", then you should have a SELECT statement in the Region Source. Something like: SELECT .... FROM ... WHERE
    According to the ERR-1101 error message, you have probably set Type to "SQL Query (PL/SQL function body returning SQL query)". In this situation APEX expects you to write a body of a PL/SQL function, that will generate the text of a SQL query that APEX should run. So it can be something like:
    declare
    mycond varchar2(4000);
    begin
    if :P1_REPORT_SEARCH is not null THEN
    mycond:='WHERE LAST_NAME like :P1_REPORT_SEARCH ||''%''';
    end if;
    return 'select EMPLOYEE_ID, FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME from EMPLOYEES ' ||mycond;
    end;
    And for escaping - are you interested in escaping the LIKE wildcards, or the quotes?
    For escaping the wildcards in LIKE function so that when the user enters % you will find a record with % and not all functions, look into the SQL Reference:
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/conditions007.htm
    (You would than need to change the code of your function accordingly).
    If you are interested in escaping the quotes, try to avoid concatenating the values entered by the user into the SQL. If you can, use bind variables instead - as I have in my example above. If you start concatenating the values into the text of SQL, you are open to SQLInjection - user can enter anything, even things that will break your SQL. If you really need to allow users to choose the operator, I would probably give them a separate combo for operators and a textfield for values, than you could check if the operator is one of the allowed ones and create the condition accordingly - and than still use bind variable for inserting the filtering value into the query.

    What you are seeing is pretty common. When I work with dynamic SQL I usually include some logic to put the dyanmic SQL into a string and a means to see what was generated, something like (untested here)
      v_sql_c := 'select * from dual';
      open refcur for v_sql_c;
    exception
      when others then
         insert into work_table (clob_column) values (v_sql_c);so I can later query the table to get to the generated SQL for debugging, something like
      select * from work_table;I also try to write dynamic SQL so I can paste it from the work table right into query execution without editing.

  • Publish PL SQL Function as Webservice

    JDeveleoper: 10.1.3.5
    Oracle SOA Suite: 10.1.3.5
    DB: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
    I need a suggestion in publishing a Pl SQL Function or Procedure as a webservice:
    I want to return a SQL Resultset. What would be e prefered way:
    using sys_refcursor or plsql array as return parameter?
    What are the advantages and disadvantages?
    Thank you in advice!

    Hi Frank,
    thank you for the quick response.
    The publishing woorks fine. I've created a function which return a sys_refcursor.
    But when do the cursor get closed, how to handle that?
    To avoid the problem with closing cursor, would it be better to deal with pl sql arrays as return types?
    Thank you!

  • SQL, PL/SQL functions, and ORA-04091 table is mutating

    Dears,
    Recently a question came up in an Oracle French forum about an insert/select that is throwing ORA-04091: table xxxx is mutating, trigger/function may not see it error in 11g while the same insert/select was working very well in 10g. The original poster gave a scenario that is easily reproducible. I am wondering what database release is correct the one throwing the error(11g) or the other one accepting the insert/select(10g)?

    I am not getting any errors during these two phases.
    And when i am calling the extproc custagg(Mindistance) which i implemented using ODCI(oracle data catridge interface) ...I am getting the error undefined symbol : ODCIAggregateInitialize
    So can any one please let me know what shared libraries are required to access the ODCI services and also am I compiling and linking it the right way or am I missing any libraries.

    Your issue may relate to XE and it may relate to OCI but it does not relate to SQL and PL/SQL. Consider posting your question in a forum where it will be on topic.
    When you do include full version information (3 decimal places) and the code that is generating the exception.

    It's only a quick guess but have you checked your tnsnames.ora file to ensure you've opened the environment to find the libraries? If you set the EXTPROC_DLLS=ANY, you open the database to security issues but it should tell you if this cause because you can't access the library that contains the symbol.
    SID_LIST_CALLOUT_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = <oracle_home_directory>)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (ENV = "EXTPROC_DLLS=ONLY:
    <oracle_home_directory>/customlib/writestr1.so
    ,LD_LIBRARY_PATH=<oracle_home_directory>/lib")
    )
