What kind of memory do I have

Hello, I've been trying to figure out what kind of RAM do I have in a computer (because I'm not sure if it's DDR2 or DDR1), so that when I purchase an upgrade, i will be able to use it.
I tried:
lspci | grep -i ram
00:00.0 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation MCP55 Memory Controller (rev a1)
00:01.2 RAM memory: NVIDIA Corporation MCP55 Memory Controller (rev a2)

As you can see, in the Type subsection there is no information about it.
Any links related are appreciated.
Cheers!
+: Is it true that if 1 RAM is only 400MHz, and another one in the same PC with 800MHz, both only will only use 400MHz?

You could try lshw -short -C memory , dmidecode --type memory (this one gives a bit more info than --type 17), and dmidecode --type 2 (reports mobo model).  But I wouldn't be surprised if these don't give you anything either.
You may just have to bite the bullet and crack open the case.
I can open the case, there is no problem with that (though most times it's not specified on the label)
From your commands I can't figure out what kind it is (though I know it's DDR2)

Though if I see there is no easy bypass, I shall check up on the manufacturer's info.

  • IMac G4 PPC, what kind of memory do I need?

I've looked everywhere, but I haven't found anything that screams "This is clearly the exact thing you need, doofus".
I own an iMac G4 PPC.
    Here are the specs:
      Machine Name:          iMac
      Machine Model:          PowerMac6,1
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (3.3)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          1 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          256 KB
      Memory:          256 MB
      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.5.9f1
      Serial Number:          W8******NHX
And if this is important, here:
      System Version:          Mac OS X 10.4.11 (8S165)
      Kernel Version:          Darwin 8.11.0
    And this: (Memory)
    DIMM1/J20:
      Size:          256 MB
      Type:          DDR SDRAM
      Speed:          PC2100U-25330
      Status:          OK
(The only other slot is "DIMM0/J22", and all it says is "Empty".  I'm just assuming that's the one I'm trying to get memory for.)
For the past since forever, I've been trying to find some memory I can add to it, because it's showing its age.  I love this computer, and I want to get as much out of it as I can.
The thing is, I can't seem to find the specific type of memory for it anywhere.  And if I have, I sure don't know if it's the right kind.
I need the biggest possible memory I can put in the slot on the bottom, the one that apparently goes in the "DIMM0/J22" slot, which is the only one out of two that says "empty".
I've tried a few sites like Crucial, which have a system scanner to help pinpoint your compatibility, but my system doesn't support that application and refuses to run it.
What kind of memory goes into the user-accessible slot on my machine?
Can someone please help me out?  I'm sick and tired of that beach ball.

Click here for some; you need a 200-pin SO-DIMM.

  • IMAC 24¨ WHAT KIND OF MEMORY I NEED TO UPGRADE MY COMPUTER?

I have an IMAC 24¨ What kind of memory i need to upgrade it? It has actually 667CL5

You posted in the PPC iMac forum, but there was not a 24" PPC iMac.  There are several 24" Intel models.
To tell what memory you need it is best to check the exact model identifier, click the apple left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware and what does it show as the Model Identifier?  With that you can go to either http://www.everymac.com and find the appropriate iMac and see what the correct memory is.  Or, you can go to OWC, http://www.macsales.com or Crucial, http://www.crucial.com and see what they offer for that model iMac.  They are the trusted sources of Mac memory.

I have an 8 year old G5 / OS X 10.4.11, what kind of problems will I have now switching from Mobileme to iCloud?

You can migrate to iCloud, but the only thing you will be able to do is access email, and you will have toi set Mail up manually to do this:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Tiger
This is worth doing to maintain your email address, but you won't be able to sync calendars, contacts or bookmarks. Your calendars and contacts will be removed from MobileMe (though not from your Mac) and won't appear on the iCloud website.

  • What kind of memory for my Macbook Pro Laptop

    Hello:
I am thinking of getting more memory for my laptop.
I am unsure on what brand to buy, so I appreciate any input you might have. I have 2 memory slots that have 2gb each. How much can I put in each slot? 4gb, 8gb?
What kind of prices for the memory?
Here are the specs on my laptop.
    MacBook Pro
    13-inch, Early 2011
Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Thank you!

You can put an 8GB module in each slot, giving you a total of 16GB. But that's the maximum.
Good sources of RAM for your model (which use 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs) are Crucial, OWC and Corsair. Other people may recommend other brands, but I would get one of the three (and I only include Corsair because that's what I'm using).
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • How much and what kind of memory can I install to upgrade my G72-b57cl notebook?

I have installed what I thought was the recommended memory for my G72-b57cl notebook, but I cannot get windows to boot or recover after installing it. The BIOS recognizes the memory and a memory check also recognizes it, but windows 7 64-bit will not operate. Is it the memory or windows?

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02623152.pdf
Memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1 on page 2.
    Max is 2 x 4 GB (8 GB) of PC3-1333 memory.
You have to pay particular attention to the fact that HP notebooks need PC3-10600 memory.
There are some memory modules out there which are PC3-10660 or PC3-10666.
The above 2 variations will normally give the user problems.

To improve the likelihood of being in spec, get your memory from Toshiba or use Kingston's best.
To add it, see the section Adding memory (optional), starting on p. 42 of the User's Guide.

  • Z61t - so what kind of socket do I have?

Machine type is 9442-89u.  And ajkula66 has suckered me into getting a new CPU for it.  But what kind of CPU socket does it have?  Oddly, I can't find this in Lenovo documentation.
Or, maybe a better question...  How did you know the processor I have?  I suppose knowing that would help know the socket type, wouldn't it?  Hmm.
OK, well.  Looks like I must have a Intel Core Duo T2400 processor.  Which might tell me something.  Only it doesn't, I don't think.  They can take a 478, FCPGA6, 479 from what I see.  Sort of.  Only I don't see.
Sigh.  What kind of processor can this take?  How can I find this information on my own???
    Any help appreciated,
    c

    Take a look at this:
     http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2_Duo_(Merom)
The way I understand it, you can definitely use T7400 and quite likely T7600...
    Hope this helps.
