What to do with it after 2 years?

Hi
I don't have an iPhone yet, but I really think about buying it at friday!
I was just wondering, can I use the iPhone if I decide, after 2 years, that I want to change the network provider?
What would u say is it reasonable to buy the iPhone or does it have to many problems?
Felix

To be honest, in two years time things will have moved on/changed a lot and you might not want to use your current iPhone.
Although you can usually unlock a phone from its carrier after the initial contract the iPhone is slightly different. One of those reasons, especially with the current model is that it really requires a provider with EDGE and since a lot of providers either don't have it (in the UK anyway) you'd be stuck with GPRS.
In addition to that, there are other features, particularly the Visual Voicemail that is carrier specific, plus I imagine in the lifespan of the phone, once the development kit is released, that other carrier specific functions may appear. If you want to use another carrier, your better off with a different phone anyway.

    What's wrong with it?
As one thing after more-than a month later on 22 March, Pages _refuses_ to alter the color of text.  How maddening this is:  I select text, I select a crayon, but the text _remains_ black.  < Pages is Incorrigible! :-( >

  • What to do with iPhoto after installing and migrating to Photos?

I'm basically trying to understand what goes on with the pictures after migrating to the new Photos app:
After migrating to Photos I tried to open iPhoto which warns me that changes will not be visible in Photos. Fine, but will changes still be present in iPhoto? There are some pictures in the trash bin, which I guess will stay until I remove them from there?
I see both an iPhoto and Photos library among in my Pictures folder, about the same size. From the total disk space I do not think they are duplicates. How does it work?
Can iPhoto be removed, removing all traces, with no adverse effects on my photo library?
Another related issue that I haven't figured out: I heard that when editing in iPhoto the application would create a new image and save it on disk, while e.g. LightRoom would just store the edit information? Is it true, and how is it done in Photos?

iPhoto and Photos are sharing the image files using hard links. The photos are only once on your disk, see:
Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support

The changes will stay applied in the iPhoto Library, yes. And empty the iPhoto Trash, if you want the trash deleted.
Can iPhoto be removed, removing all traces, with no adverse effects on my photo library?
It could, but I would wait a bit, before take this step. Check your photos library thoroughly, before you delete if.
If you should discover later, that the migration of your libraries has been faulty and you need to repeat it after repairing your libraries, you will be out of luck.
Remember, it is is just a few days after the first release of Photos as version 1.0.  There are very likely some bugs and I would not burn all bridges before the library has been thoroughly tested and you are very confident, that this early Photos release is working well on your Mac.

iPhoto and Photos have a lossless workflow like Lightroom. They store the sequence of edits, and create only a preview image of the edited version.  When you add further edits, all edits will be applied starting from the original image, and all edits can be removed and the photo reverted to the original.  With Photos this works also with iCloud Photo Library across all your devices. Edit a photo on your Mac and change the edits on our iPhone.

Hi, what is most common choice for Oracle production DBA with 5 years< experience, if he wants to change his career ? Is it possible to become Oracle Architect without Java/PL-SQL programming experience, but knowing many oracle products such as OBIEE, EBS etc ?

Hi, what is most common choice for Oracle production DBA with 5 years< experience, if he wants to change his career ?
    >
Have you considered early retirement? A lot of DBAs I know got burnt out after about 5 years of dealing with management that wouldn't let them fix what needed fixed!
Seriously, though, your dba skills could be a good fit for a system architect position. Those positions often involve multiple systems, network and configuration issues, security, compression, encryption and job control to make it all work together.
Pick the brains of an architect coworker and start getting familiar with the documentation that architects work on: system diagrams, System requirements documents and other docs that may already be available where you work now.

  • What to do with G4 after buying a New iMac

Hello everyone. I'm close to buying an iMac 21.5 Intel and will use the Migration Assistant to transfer my settings and applications over from my G4 in Target mode. After all is well, I plan to put my 8 year old G4 (it only has 40 GB) in another room and use it from time to time because it still runs well. I just don't want to get too far behind in operating systems as I am now running Tiger plus I need more hard disk space.
Do most of you out there just keep your old computers for miscellaneous purposes or do you network them to go online? I have a DSL modem now and am thoroughly confused as to how to network it with a computer in another room so that both can access the internet? I'm wondering if the expense and trouble in doing this is worth it? Thanks for any suggestions. Rich

my first immediate inclination is to why even bother to connect to the Internet on both computers or even each to the other.
LOL, I thought that was what you wanted, but as you say, there are other methods!
And the only disadvantage of no internet on the G4 is no more download support available. But I don't think there is much more in the way of support left for Tiger anyway. In fact, I have yet to download the new Safari and the new iTunes update because of all the chatter about how guys are wanting to switch back to the old Safari.
That's an advantage!!! New iTunes is only needed for buying Music from Apple, and your new one will do that if you want. Safari 4 is no good for me, but others with Broadband seem to like it's speed.
I am connected by Ethernet and I know that you are on dial up so I presume you have only your newest computer connected the the web.
I've actually shared that Dial-up connection with 5 other Macs & 2 PCs!
The first is should I get all Apple Updates before shutting down the G4 or be happy with the way things are now?
No need really, it works for everything it does now right?
And the second is can my Iomega external drive (which is bootable to Tiger on one partition and filled with movies and photos on the other partition) be connected to the iMac via Firewire just in order to copy and transfer those movies over to the iMac even though the Iomega external drive is not formatted for Intel?
No problem, might need an adapter or new cable if your new One is only FW800 & the Drive is only FW400, but the Intel will have no problem reading from it.

  • I am done with Verizon after 13 years.

When my husband started his new job it required him to provide his own cell phone with no allowance from his company.  I had our usage reviewed and all the plans were explained to me.  When I realized we were cutting it close I inquired about upping our minutes but the only other option was more than we could afford.  I was told that alerts were available to let me know when we were approaching overages and that we could adjust the plan if it became necessary and those days would be prorated.  Sounded great that is perfect I said.  So imagine my surprise when we were presented with a $900 phone bill.  My further surprise that during that time we were sent no alerts.  But what really upset me the most is that during this time a plan became available that would have LOWERED our bill and not only were we not contacted to let us know in any way whatsoever when we asked why the answer was incredulous.  First he said "well it has been advertised everywhere don't you read your bills?'  Did he mean tThe  online version of my paperless bill that could not even indicate which calls caused the overages tat did not connect me to a notification that said "Oh by the way we can charge you less and you can get more than you get now".  I could go on and on but the botom line is that despite our efforts to make sure this did not happen no notifications of any kind was received, we are stuck with a bill we cannot afford to pay and despite the fact that we have had our phones with Verizon for over 13 years and 2 hours on the phone trying to understand how it happened the resolution we were offered was insulting and the customer service appalling.  Full of contradictions, veiled ridicule and no desire to retain our patronage.
Since then I have checked with several family members and friends who are existing customers and not a single one was aware that the new plan was available and that it would LOWER all of their phone bills.  Some of them by 50%.
Good luck with all of the new customers you get Verizon.  This "old" customer is patiently waiting for her contract to expire so she can switch to a provider that does not require a contract.  I hope the $900 was worth losing an "old" customer who finally reached her limit.  You could have had a positive outcome and agreed to adjust our bill to what the new plan offers.  Not only are we currently homeless and need our phones to keep my husbands job that pays the bills but we have 3 children who depend on every penny we have to keep them fed and clothed.  Enjoy the profits you have made from this.  I know I will not hesitate to tell this story to every Verizon customer I come in contact with and anyone who is considering your service.  If I could avoid your outrageous contract cancellation fees I would be with a different carrier right now.  It may have cost us $900 but I will make sure it costs Verizon much more as I convince all my friends and family that deserve better and that I have found options that are better.

If you are homeless, how did you come up with 900 bucks for your cell phone bill? 2. If you are homeless, what bills are you guys trying to pay? Just curious. 3. If you are homeless, why do you have more than one cell phone? 4. What is this mysterious plan that saves 50%? I want in on this.

  • What is wrong with wifi after iOS 6 update on the new iPad ?

Since I upgraded to iOS 6 my iPad ***** at connecting to Wi- Fi.  I have been using iPads since the original launch and I currently own the 3rd gen iPad. Since the upgrade to iOS 6.0 the performance of Wi-Fi is terrible. My iPad often cannot find networks that were working less an hour earlier. The only resolution to this issue that i have found is to consistent is to power off the iPad for a few minutes and try again. Sometime I have to do this 3-4 times to get Wi-Fi working again.  I have seen other reports of similar problems in web forums and in tech news. What is Apple doing to resolve these issues?  What is the expected timeline for a resolution?

This is an iPad user to user forum and Apple doesn't read. So we have no way of knowing when an update to iOS 6 will be released.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Anyone with a clear workflow of what to do with projects after burned DVD

I am in dire need of help.
I've completed a project using FCE-export to iMovie-shared over to iDVD-and burned on a DVD
I want to keep the project in case the client wants another copy, or even to make changes.
I tried to start another project, but it said low disc space.
I then bought a Seagate external drive 160gb to try and transfer files over, but at this point, I've moved things over that I wasn't really sure should be moved.
    I have a Mac OS X version 10.4.10 -Processor: 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo-Memory: 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM - startup disk Macintosh HD

**What happened to the Auto Saves?**
*The Autosave Vault is still here, but as I try and open the most recent file, another popup says 'Missing Disks' -To preserve the integrity of the data used by Final Cut Express HD, its necessary to ensure the existence of the following paths:---'Unknown' is offline (is whats in the box)*
**Are there OFF-LINE clips in the Timeline (if openable)?**
*I can't open the FCE projects at this moment.*
    **What format is the external?**
*It was someone else who suggested below:*
    *-Go into Disk Utility*
    *-Select the disk*
*-Make sure all your files are off the drive before you do this:*
*-Change Format to Mac OS Extended.*
*The files that were on the external, I trashed, I thought since I dragged it there initially from the startup disk, it was a copy. As I did the above suggestion, right now, I can't see the external anywhere, but yet its plugged to the MacBook Pro.*
**It's important to know the difference between a Project, Scratch Disc and a project file.**
**Where is the project file located - internal or external?**
*It was external and internal, but after the suggestion of another person, I trashed all files in the external, and now its only the INTERNAL.*
*The project file is located under project files that I created under DOCUMENTS, but as I try the FCE project files, it says the same pop up as above 'Missing Disks'*
*As I try and open the project's iDVD project file, the pop up is 'Missing Files.'*
**Answers to these questions will be helpfull to us.**
*Thank you kindly for your time.*

  • What to do with car after discharge

Hello all. I was discharged from chapter 13 last week. Now my issue is this.... Before my filling I had a car loan with Santander and only owed $900. I actually assumed it was included in my filling. I found out it wasn't from my new lawyer because it's totalled and needs to be salvaged. She says I can have Santander pick it up or release the lein without damaging my newly rebuilding credit. I'm not sure if I understand how it won't affect my credit. Help please

Chapter 13 is different than Ch 7, so I don't have much help, but have you tried asking your attorney to explain how it won't affect your credit?

  • If you buy an ipad mini with cellular - after 2 year contract ends...

can i still use the ipad as a wifi only?  or do you HAVE to have cell service?

but what if I don't do even the month to month - even though the ipad is the wifi + cellular, can you still just use it as wifi only?  (Hope this makes sense)

"You have a warranty which states replaced with certified like new and not brand new."
This would be understandable and acceptable if it was for the fact that since day 1 we've been given broken phones.I refuse to pay full price for something that has been broken since the start.
I've spoken with HTC and received the "this issue hasn't been reported" statement and it pretty much went nowhere. One option was to send the device to HTC and wait for them to figure it out and send it back, but with no backup phone (turned in for credits) to use and my wife using this for work that's not a viable option.

I am having difficulty charging my iphone with the cable. Its been 1 yr since I bought the phone. Does the cable becomes useleless after a year. Whats the life span for the cable? It automatically gets disconnected and then get connected again.

That is shorter than normal. Any signs of wear? And you're sure it's the cable, not one of the pins in the iPhone's charging port?

  • I am done with Verizon for their inability to update Android in a timely manner. When my contract is up, after 10 years, I am gone.

    Verizon,
Nobody.. and I mean NOBODY is buying your crap. You don't update to the latest software in a timely manner. The entire planet has the KitKat update for Android and you don't under the guise of better experience. That is crap, everyone else can do it but you, you are inept.
Additionally, you are the most expensive by far and the guise of biggest network. I really don't care about the biggest network, I use a very small percentage of it so this is no excuse.  AND if you are the biggest how come EVERY carrier can beat you on price and get updates out faster?
Your new tiered plans "Family Share" crap.
I do how you still charge me for data, voice, and text.. even though at the end of the day these are all just data packets across your network. I love being charged three times for the same service though.
You want to really be the best, then change your ways.. but I am done waiting around for you.. this contract ends and I am gone.

After 20 yes TWENTY YEARS being with Verizon I to am done with their cell phone business. I have had nothing but problems with my "new" Droid, which I was "steered" to by a tech who told me what I should have not what I chose, my weakness was to still trust the employee had the best interest of their customer at heart. Brewhahaha! Boy what a error that was on MY part. I got a phone that has been defective from the moment I turned it ON.
I first had home service with Verizon for many years...then wifi....then the bundle. Great, all I can say is as this company has grown, they have fallen apart on their customer service and their policies. Their nothing more than yet another CORPORATE mentality company whose bottom line is PROFIT.
My droid arrived, it would not hold a charge...it would not always take a preference I chose...it would change things on preferences on it's own (wondering if my phone is like that car in the movie "CHRISTINE")  and was encouraged to keep using it, I just either didn't understand the "smart phone" ...or my age was allowing them to think I could no longer learn to use anything other than a rotary phone.  One tech actually told me to take the battery out and reset the phone, hmmm...sure right and ruin the phone? RIGHT...who trains these people???
Verizon is no longer any resemblance of the once good company it just to be.
Today my day was horrible. (your just lucky I told blab on about the last three months dealing with them!)
Having just spent the majority of my day being transffered from one department to the next (seems they now have to transfer you if there is something as simple as adding an e mail to the order that was cancelled in error by the way to replace the lousy dysfunctional Droid I got) no one person can do what ever your account needs. Half way through my completely messed up day, I got so tired of this syrupy fake responses telling me to have a wonderful day and enjoy the rest of my day..and it was a pleasure to serve me.... after way to many transfers to other departments...they started sounding like they were recorded bots...or flight attendants. I just had to ask them if they served peanuts and cold drinks. HARD LIQUOR?
So now I am waiting for my "reburbished" droid. (again)..checked on why I had not gotten it...it was cancelled flagged by "fraud". WHATTT?  Fourth time I have ordered something and this has happened, and no e mail asking me to contact them. I live in a senior gated community and they are trying to tell me "someone in your gated community attempted to commit fraud" so MY order gets flagged. (half the seniors in this gated community are half dead the others are either in Palm Springs or traveling...and the one who are slightly mobile...might not remember how to even get to the mail room .and back to their house..granted UPS requires I SIGN for the phone...but impossible since they flagged and did not send the phone out. So, here I sit, wondering after three months of dealing with these (not so funny) clowns and gain absolutely NO satisfaction, except to say....adios...when my contract ends.  AT&T hopefully is better, but who knows..this phone situation may be the death of me yet..and in the end VERIZON will not longer have to waste their time or mine transferring me to try to get a 1. working phone  2.  my order actually processed correctly  3. have to re-educate their techs.
I no longer TRUST Verizon, I no longer believe they have the interest of their customers at heart. (what heart?)  and about the only thing I don't understand is they sell me a phone, then a package to buy time...but also $30.00 a month  fee to connect to their lines? Shouldn't that rather come with the package deal??
Signed..done with Verizon squeezing me two ways to Sunday.  I just hope some other company  comes in with a plan to beat the socks off these top providers of cell services in the states...and I'd like to just sit back and watch the huge exodus  of people leaving. The pickens are ripe to do just that.

the clue is in the message title i.e. after two years successful and trouble free use I am suddenly unable to access Facebook on my iPhone 4 whereas I can still access it on my PC which I keep synced with my iPhone. Am I/have I done something stupid to make this happen ANY help would be appreciated.

Have you recently used any midi controller with Logic.. such as a hardware controller or even an iPad app.
If you used an iOS app, power down (Not just put to sleep) your iOS device and see what happens.. If that fixes it you are running an iOS controler in the background and so you will need to close it..
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
Failing that, quit Logic and trash the Control Surface pref file.... restart Logic and see if that cures it..
In the Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder from the menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
    Press the Go button.
Delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
