Where are my elements in Project panel ?
I'm working on a (first) project since a few weeks, and suddently discover that most of the elements (shots, audio, still pics, bins) that were captured or imported in the project panel are no longer there...
However, as long as I don't need them, everything that was brought to the timeline still appear correctly in the sequence (including trimmed shots from those disappeared in the project panel).
I have spent hours capturing from the tape (camera) and was expecting at the end to find a way to back up everything on (probably multiple) DVDs.
My question is twofold:
1) How come all these disappeared from the panel ? Is this ... "normal"?
2) While I can find those (well identified) elements somewhere in a folder on my PC (so if needed I can reimport...), what will be the best way to back-up the entire project and all its assets ?

no, it's not normal for your assets to disappear from project window. are you sure you are at root folder of your project? I believe there is a folder icon right below preview window in project window. click it to try to go up a level.

Where are customized element lists stored ?
Hi all,
After removing lots of useless DITA elements from my Elements list via the Customized List option, I find that the list is only used for the document in which I have edited it, and is not kept when I close and reopen the DITA file.
In the FM10 help file I read that the customized list applies to a document - or possibly to a set of documents in a book that were selected when opening the Customized List option. In DITA topics, there is no use for an FM book file, so this documented option is pretty useless for those types of structured files.
Does anyone know where the customized elements list is stored ? Can it be copied and pasted into other documents ? Is there an easy method to make it valid for all (new and existing) documents of the same DITA type ?

I understand what you're saying. However, I do not want to change anything to the underlying DTDs, EDDs or read-write rules. I just want to hide a number of elements in FrameMaker without changing anything else. This effectively implements one aspect of constraints (the other aspects, namely making optional elements mandatory or defining an order where this is not given by the original DTDs, are not possible without using the method you indicate.
At first I was happy with the simple notion of editing the visibility of elements in the editor. This is a feature that several XML editors have also implemented. But in FM, any change to the elements catalog is lost as soon as the file is closed, and that makes this feature really useless. Noboby is going to go through the same stupid process of selecting all those wanted elements or deselecting the unwanted ones every time a file is opened again.
Michael pointed me in the right direction to solve this problem the easy way: after defining the custom elements catalog in a DITA file and removing all elements from it, I saved the file as an FM file, renamed it to topic.template.fm and placed it in the DITA templates folder (effectively overwriting the old file - but of course I renamed the old one first). Now, whenever I open a topic type file, the custom elements catalog is read from the template. This is done for all DITA files of the topic type, not just the newly created ones.
This is exactly what I would expect as FM's default behavior, so I am happy that it works. Takes some of the geek stuff out of DITA in FM.

Where are PS Elements 8 photos stored?
Help...I am trying to clean out duplicate photos. My hard drive is full & HP has asked me where PS Elements 8 stores my photos. Where does Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 store the photos in my computer so I can clean out all the duplicate photos???

Ken is correct, the Organizer only catalogs the images and doesn't store them in a secret location.
Just to clarify things more, when you use the downloader, then that will copy your images from your card or camera to where you specify. It then adds them to the catalog.
In Organzer, if you use get from files and folders, then the Organizer just records the location of each image it doesn't copy them to a secret location.
In both cases, the organizer will update it's thumbnail database with a small copy of each image.
What can confuse people in Windows 7 is the introduction of library's. Library's are an alternative way to look at your files. This means that if your image is stored in a folder which also is contained within a library, you will be able to see the image using folder views or library views. There is still only one copy of the image.
If you are unsure where an image is stored, click on the thumbnail in organizer and then use Alt+Enter (this will toggle the properties window). On the first (general) tab, the folder location is shown at the bottom.
The organizer will make a copy if you do a backup. As well as backing up the catalog and other databases, each image is copied and given a different name. These backup copies should not be deleted as your restore will fail.

Where are the VI's:'Close Panel & Open Panel?

Well my problem now is that if I want to call a panel from another panel,
this first panel must be closed, because if it isn't closed thr progam doesn't
run.
I know how I have to call another VI, but the problem is that if the VI has
been opened before, you can't open a VI twice, so I should close the Vi before
calling another VI.
I have seen the help and exist two VI's called 'Close Panel' and 'Open Panel',
but I haven't found them yet!
Is there any helpful suggestion for me?

Open Panel and Close Panel are in the library
\labVIEW\Vi.lib\Utility\victl.llb
They were in the standard pallet before LV 5, they are still there for backward compatibility. The new VIServer functionality in
LV 5.x does the same and more and so replaced them.
Also note Open Panel and Close Panel are now constructed using VIServer functions, where before they were dll or cin calls.

Tonight all I have is problems with Final Cut Pro X... I read many similar things in the last few hours, and start to wonder if this could be the last OS X update in cause ??... Everything was fine 3 days ago...

Yes, it's a mess for sure, and I've lost confidence in it for now. First attempt, 5 photos came up missing. Delete and start over, then after second attempt 18 photos go missing. Even one single missing photo is a real confidence breaker for me.
After conversion, and activation of the sidebar, all of my Events were migrated into a single "Photos" Album called "iPhoto Events". Why would I want "legacy" Events segregated into one big Album? What the heck am I supposed to do with that? That's useless if new photos are going to be organized in some other way moving forward. I cannot imagine new photos automatically putting themselves into a new Event inside of the "iPhoto Events" Album... because they won't. I'll be stuck with my old iPhoto Events in this one Album, and the new stuff organized as per Photos. Weird, just weird.
Also, in the "all photos" view, there are dates that are just blank. I think I know why. In iPhoto, I merged various photos into single Events. For whatever reason, within the Library, this left empty folders behind. iPhoto's fault, not mine... I simply dragged & dropped photos to combine Events. Then during Photos import/conversion these empty folders got converted into "blank" days within Photos... this is simply ridiculous. When programming for an import, you'd want to ignore a folder if there are no files inside of it, not convert it into a block of photos that contain no photos. It's nonsensical... you cannot have an iPhoto Event with zero photos, yet that's what was converted over. LOL.
I'm certainly not going to invest the time into cleaning up and moving hundreds of Events and 18,000 photos if Photos can't even do a simple library conversion. Heck, what about the dozens of photos that my iPhone 5S fails to geotag for whatever reason? Can't edit geotags. Can't bulk edit meta data. These are pretty basic functions. Total fail.
I'm going back to iPhoto for a while, hoping Apple eventually cleans up this mess into something usable. -
IDVD burning one project on multiple macs? where are project contents?
How do I burn one project on multiple macs? I have a idvd project I created in keynote, added music to it in Garageband, exported to quicktime, and now is in iDVD burning just fine. However I have tons of these dvd's to make, I would like to put all my mac's to work.
last night i tried to share the file, and it is just an alias when i drag it over from the macbook it was created on to my imac. the file says it is in use and locked, since the macbook that created it is burning it. If I wanted to brun on the imac, I had to wait until the macbook was done.
is there a way around this? What if I copied all files I used to make the idvd project to my imac or any computer i wanted to burn on? woudl it hen allow two macs to be burning the same project?
I figured I could do this just like on my PC, drag the file over and voila...no such luck, its like if i had dragged a shortcut over to another pc...if the first one is using the file, its locked. Basically how do i get to the actual contents of the project, so I can also bring them over and hopefully it will allow me to burn on multiple macs at the same time?
my next solution if that didn't work was to start copying dvd's using popcorn on the other macs while the macbook continues burning through idvd.
Any opinions on how i can duplicate a dvd fast...need alot of copies!Also as to where the files are.

StevenWell, not sure what you mean by "cost codes". Normally when I see that wording I think of work breakdowns within a project. I don't think of cost codes as being general ledger numbers. But maybe you are meaning to say general ledger number? I see "Project Number" though, which makes me think you are talking about project accounting. You set up your projects in project accounting and create what Oracle calls Tasks (I like to them of them as cost codes) that you can assign to your projects. So this would all be in Project Accounting. You may want to download the various user guides for Oracle Projects to start learning about this application. You must be running project accounting, correct? So maybe you need to find the person in your company who knows this application and start to get educated on it. There is a separate forum for Projects where this may be a better place to ask this question. You may need to provide more detail on what you are trying to do if you are not involved with project accounting.

I exported one folder to an external drive. Now ALL my projects in Aperture are gone! WHERE ARE THEY? I've tried to rebuild and repair database. It only shows the one project I had exported because I opened it in Finder back into Aperture. HELP PLEASE!

Why aren't titles saved with the project? Where are they? Can I get them to be saved with the project?they aren't able to be exported as an entire bin folder ready for importing into another if needed.
Oh, but they are! You can select multiple titles, or even a bin containing multiple titles, and use the same File > Export > Title command. Premiere Pro will ask you where you want to save the first (and change the name, but it will default to the name given in the project), and then will automatically export all selected titles without further user intervention. You can import them en masse or in a folder (to create a bin automatically) into another project. -

I finalized my iMovie project. I am using iMovie 9.0.9 by the way. I can't seem to locate the movie files when I go to upload my video to YouTube. I also noticed that the files for my previous videos are gone as well. For now, I'm exporting using QuickTime, but that is taking way too much time and I have never had to do this before. I waited an hour for my project to finalize, where are the files? Where can I find them?

I tried the MPEG STREAMCLIP option and like yourself exported to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codex @ 100% quality (you can also export in DV mode with much the same results) - it worked fine but file sizes trebled and quality reduced (you can also. As you say its also a pain to have to go though another process. To be able to do it inside imove is a much better option (thanks to tjworld for that, who would have thought of doing that!!!) Surely this will be something Apple have to sort out in the next upgrade. So pleased that I can continue using the Zi6 as it's a really smart little camera - even though mine is pink one (the camera that is!) This is the first time I've used a discussion stream so thanks again all for the help

How do I move Elements 8 projects (slide shows) from a Windows XP computer to new Windows 7 computer that also has Elements 8 on it so that the slides shows will work (Elements 8 works well on the Windows 7 computer & I have done several new slide show projects on it)? I tried backup & restore without success. I have also found the .psess files and copied them to the catalog in the new computer but when the sides shows are opened none of the images or music is there. Only the text that I entered shows. I have even tried to replicate the file paths from the XP computer to the new computer to see if that will help.
UPDATE: By a stroke of luck I happened to find a catalog link (a PSE8D file) in the 'My Catalog' file where the imported data was stored. When I clicked on it to investigate what is was 'magically' all of my transferred projects appeared in Organizer. Upon further investigation I found that the projects transferred from my XP computer were stored in a hidden catalog that had to be accessed through the Custom Location option in Catalog Manager (accessed by clicking File then Catalog then Custom Location). No Windows or Elements search revealed this fact. I am appreciative that I just got lucky. The Adode/Photoshop company was absolutely of no help. If fact to me their structure is designed to avoid contact with their customers unless you're buying a new product. Their products have many good features (even though user unfriendly) and it's a shame they don't value their customers more once the sale is completed.
Bottom line: All of the projects (sideshows) have been recovered and work in my new Windows 7 computer. I hope my experience helps others.
