hello to everyone,
Which oracle networking configuration files are optional and which are compulsory on the client side, and the same thing, which files are optional or compulsory on the server side?
For example, is sqlnet.ora optional on the server side?
If this makes difference regarding the Oracle version, then it's about 9i and 10g.
Many thnx for any input.
Cheers,
Hiruyalistener.ora is must in server
tnsnames.ora is must in client and in server (if multiple servers are integrated through database by application)
sqlnet.ora is optional in both client and server (is must if domain naming is used) -

Tried this make command both from bash and ksh, same results.
The sed command never returns, gets stuck and thus make never exits.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
KirillThis is caused by bash and not by sed. Bash 3.1 shipped FC5 is buggy.
So download bash-3.0 from FC4 and install it using "rpm -ivh ... --force" command. -
Does Oracle B2B supports file (inbound and outbound) via Odette FTP?
I am unable to find any documentation on whether B2B can receive/send files via OFTP. If it is supported, please point me to any documentation on this topic.
Thanks
ShanthiThanks Rafael! I have reached out to the Oracle B2B Product Development to provide an enhancement. What is your email id in case I need more details about the open source product? I visited your web site. I am unable to download the APIs since I do not have SVN. Is there a location where I can download it as a compressed zip file?
Thanks

Does Mapviewer / Oracle Maps support file based raster imagery
Forum:
We have 1000's of ortho images that we are attempting to serve - with Oracle Vector data - using Oracle Maps.
mapviewe supports Georaster, and Image themes - and one can use Mapbuilder rather well to configure the system for these.
However - is there a way (other than to use a non-oracle WMS server) to serve up ortho images from their disk based locations if you do not want do load all your aerial photography into the database ?
And again thank you in advance.
JFHi,
if you have a non-Oracle WMS server that gives access to these images, you may define an external map cache source to access these images. Oracle Mapviewer provides a WMSAdapter class implementation that can be used in this case.
The follwing example shows the definition of an external map cache for Oracle Maps. Notice the adapter_class (which is shipped with MapViewer) and the properties parameters (which are used to define a WMS request).

Hi All,
Our prod db is 2 nodes RAC 10g in MS window 2003 servers. It is located in a remote place. Recently one of our local app servers lost connection to this db although we can tnsping it but got ORA3113 error when we tried to logon using sql plus. Most of our local PCs did not have problem logon at all. We enabled the sql net trace on this app server and network administrators spent a lot of time on this and finally shutdown one of the app servers in the same remote location which seemed cause a lot of network traffic with a local app server. So the problem went away and the app server can logon to the db now. I (I know nothing about network) tried to read the sql net trace file generated during the trouble time using the help outlined in the “Examining Oracle Net Trace Files” written by Kevin Reardon. The error happened after client sending server character set and conversion graph it supports and before receiving character set and conversion graph from the server. It took a minute in this step and finally gave up. Following is a section of the trace file where error happens. My question is: even we know when the error happens and at what step how can we use this info to further identify the root cause: Is this because we have too much network traffic which caused timeout or other reason(s)? By the way our db servers have “INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT=180" (3 minutes) in the sqlnet.ora file and whole trace file starts at [06-NOV-2009 14:50:23:352] and ends at [06-NOV-2009 14:51:24:758] which is a little over 1 minute. Greatly appreciate your insights and thoughts.
Shirley

The TNS 12537, 12560 and 12151 codes indicate network errors.
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14219/tnsus.htm#sthref14851
Is this a consistently reproducible error ? Do other applications on this network operate without error ?

ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error while linking tables in Access
One of my app dev is encountering an interesting error message while linking Oracle tables from Access. I am not able to able to reproduce this in my desktop or anywhere else. Details enclosed. Can you guys point me to a solution? Thanks in advance!
ODBC: Oracle Client version 10.2.0.1
Desktop : Win XP ; Access 2003
=>Able to login to the Oracle database sucessfully using sqlplus.
=>Able to create an ODBC datasource to Oracle database.("Test Connection" works fine)
=>But encountering the TNS protocol adpater error while linking the table(Access->File->Get External Data-> Link tables).
=>Not able to link any table in any schema in any Oracle database. Hence this is not a data centric issue.
What did I do?
=> Uninstalled Oracle 8 client and installed Oracle 10 client. No luck. Encountering the same error.
=> Turned on the ODBC trace and reproduced the error. The log is enclosed:

Edited by: user5598619 on Feb 10, 2009 5:37 PMThanks a lot for your quick reply.
I've read all the posts mentioned (quite a few more) but I couldn't find any suggested solution to the "non-oracle10g"-problem other than using the global db name instead of the sid - which didn't help in our case:
However, in a last desperate attempt to solve the problem on my own before launching another cry-for-help-post I did try running the configuration assistant using the correct password for the SYS user 8-} and - strange but true - it did work :-)
Needless to say: I used the global db name of course, so I can't say what would have happened without it, but I trust your hint was a legitimate one.
Anyway - I gues that error Message concerning a "non-oracle10g database" was slightly misleading in this case.... grrrr.

It is recommended that you continue installation without completing Oracle Net configuration. Once the installation is complete run the Oracle Net Configuration Assistant separately after checking that the ORACLE_HOME environment variable is not set (preferred on Windows platforms) or that it is set to the correct Oracle Home.

Thanks.Well, I hope that you have a static IP address on your machine
Add that static IP address to the hosts file.
Also make sure that you have the latest JDK installed.

If I am running the batch file directly from CMD Prompt it’s displaying the error message
“Cannot open file”
If I am connecting with ODI it’s displaying the error
com.sunopsis.dwg.function.SnpsFunctionBaseException: OS command returned 3503. …………………….
Thanks in advance…
Rathish A MHi Ratish,
ODQ supports files as inputs not Oracle tables, what you should do is:
- define an ODQ process that takes a file as an input.
- create an ODI process that dumps your Oracle table into a file that will be used by ODQ. (interface or OdiSqlUnload step)
- run the ODQ process in ODI (in a package)
- create an ODI interface that will load your ODQ output file into a DB.
You can profile Oracle tables directly using Oracle Data Profiling.
Thanks,

Please Soft Me Out.user9030848 wrote:
Where can i find that listener log file ?Zoltan gave you the specific, one-time answer.
The generalized, learn-to-self-help answer is:
Use your os's search utility to fiind any file you want. In the case of Linux, that utility is called 'find'. Instructions on how to use it are all over the net, and the official documentation for all Linux utilties installed on your system can be read by using the 'man' command (ie: 'man find').
To tie the general to the specific, you would use
find / -name listener.log Or, faster and fewer error messages
find $ORACLE_HOME -name listener.log -
TM Error. An error occurred while linking files on the backup volume
I have a 1TB Time Capsule. It's been working great for over a month. I'm now receiving an error.
Time Machine Error
Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while linking files on the backup volume.
I don't know what has happened to cause this error. Does anyone know what has happened and how to fix this? The first time I received this error was when it showed under Available it had over 500 GB and was backing up 89.1 GB. Then the error. The backup scheduled time came up and TM started to backup again. Again with the error. The next time it backed up I made a note of the figures it showed. It starts the backup process "Preparing" and shows under Available 389.1 GB of 929.5 GB. Then Preparing shows that it's backing up, 13.5 GB. Then I get the error pop up. I check Time Machine and under Available it shows 370.3 GB of 929.5 GB. The scheduled time came up again. Available shows 370.3 GB of 929.5 GB and that it's backing up 18.9 GB. I'm trying to see if there is a pattern, for instance 389.1 GB - 370.3 GB = 18.8 GB. It's not 18.9 GB, but it's close. I'm wondering if there is a point which causes the backup to fail and figure out if this can be fixed. I'm stumped. The backups keep getting an error but the Available amount keeps getting lower. Again, any help would be appreciated. Maybe you see something I don't. Thank you.I forgot to state this in my post; what I noticed beside "Latest Backup", is that it states "Failed ! (! is in a red circle)". (So why does the "Available" amount keep going down? Where is the disk storage space going if it's not backing up?). It started the backup again, it initializes "Latest Backup" by showing a blank. I was curious what it showed when I went into Enter Time Machine. I guess the last good backup was Sunday July 27, 2008 11:21 PM. That's what it shows prior to the NOW selection on the right. The Oldest Backup is June 19, 2008. I thought this might be useful to note.
I thought it would be a good idea to see what Time Machine is doing and record the steps. I know it will involve time and patience, but hopefully I'll find out something. It might be of use to someone.
- It's backing up again and it gets to the point showing that it backed up 18.8 GB of 18.9 GB and stays there for 20 minutes or so.
- Then it shows 18.9 GB of 18.9 GB, and stays at that point for a while.
- Available shows 351.5 GB of 929.5 GB.
- The Failed ! comes up again in Latest Backup. and backup stops.
- Again it looks like the disk storage is used up. (So the questions would be; 1. If the backup failed, where is the space going if the backup failed? 2. How can I get back what should be available and have it show the correct available amount?
It came up to the time it backs up again. It shows that the backup amount will be 18.9 GB. I turned Time Machine OFF. It looks like it will do the same thing. Does anyone know what is happening and what needs to be done to correct this and get my available space back with it recording the correct available amount (xxx.x GB of 929.5 GB) -
Ive taken all defaults read install guide , checked availability of ports and made sure I have libaio.
I've reinstalled on two separate machines and everytime install fails after I accept defaults. Logs don't show anything. ./oracle-xe configure is the only thing in the log.
If I run this again it fails or hangs in the same place. ?????Im not sure where the netlistener is otherwise Id try to manually install?start ?
"Starting Oracle Net Listener"I have noticed the same thing on my install where it hangs on starting the listener. BUT. .. If you hit enter while it is hanging it will continue to the next step of starting the db. . It seems like it is waiting for some input but not displaying that on the screen. I would not suspect any input from a start listener. .This is my experience. Any others see this?

While linking dita file in Robohelp gives an error.
The following error comes while linking with one framemaker dita file into Robohelp. Please Suggest ?
Wow! That's a long file path. Try moving the project to something shorter (e.g. C:\rhsource\<Projectname>) and try again.

After I updated my Itunes I always get this Error:
The procedure entry point
?videoTracks@QTMovie@@QBE?AV?$Vector@V?$RefPtr@VQTTrack@@@***@@$0A@VCrashOnOverflow @2@@***@@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\WebKit.dll.
And the I get:
iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.
Error 7 (Windows error 127)
I tried the following:
- Re-Installing Itunes
- Uninstalling every software from Apple deleting every registery entry and then re-installing it. (itunes, quicktime, bonjour etc.)
This error is really a pain in the ***. I run Windows 8.1. When I go back to a restore point then Itunes works again. I searched but didn't find a solution that worked for me. Please help me.
As a software engineer, I really wonder if this is 98 or 2014....Try the following user tip:
iTunes for Windows 11.1.4.62: "The procedure entry point: ?videoTracks@QTMovie@ [...] could not be located ..." error messages when launching iTunes
