Wifi drops constantly on brand new HP Envy Notebook.

I've always thought so highly of HP and as such, decided to purchase an HP laptop - an HP Envy 15-K233ca Notebook. I have had some issues from the start and one in particular, is making for a rather unpleasant experience. The wifi connection keeps dropping.  It drops when the system is put in sleep mode, when I surf the net and even after a reboot.   I walked through the issue (and a few others) with HP's  help desk this evening and after 2 hours was met with the same problem.  I am now having to reboot the computer and troubleshoot to try and maintain a wifi connection.  This is my first experience with an HP Laptop and I'm disappointed.  It's unfortunate, but I may have to return it.  I'll be walking over to Apple for a replacement.   If someone from HP can resolve this for once and for all, it would be helpful. Otherwise, I will have no choice but to return the unit. Note:  I've noticed that others experience the same issue.  I requested that HP's Help Desk install drivers to resolve the issue.  If this didn't work after our session this evening, then I'm afraid it may be a hardware issue.

  • Wifi drops constantly on WPA enterprise wifi on my campus

    Hello,
I own a macbook pro retina mid 2012 on maverick. The wifi drops constantly on campus, it's a WPA enterprise wifi. The wifi seems to work fine at home. My computer has been sent to an apple store twice for this issue already, I got it back but it is still not working and i spent more than 3 hours on the phone with apple trying to solve that issue. They made me run a lot of stuff, got me to send them files so that their engineers could work on them.
Bottom of the story, they tell me that the problem must come from my university wifi, a wifi network used by 50 000 students every single day and everyone is fine with it ...
I have been to the computer help desk on campus and they had no idea what to do.
So please if anyone has any hint, i would greatly appreciate as I lost faith in apple "engineers" and their skills.
    Thanks guys.

  • Dozens of drivers will not load on brand new HP ENVY 14t-1000 CTO Notebook PC. Win 7 Ultimate N

I recenty paid for a brand new  HP ENVY 14t-1000 CTO Notebook PC.It had entirely too much bloatware and I have doe fresh install's hundreds of times. The installs went fine but only 4 drivers from the driver page for this product on Win 7 will install. I am without the Wifi, Ethernet, Sound, Display, Smart Card Reader, and about 10 more that I am not sure what they are. I googled the PCI ID's of some and found what should be the driver as in the Wifi is the Broadcom driver from the support page for this product but after the install nothing happens. Then you get the pop up that says there was the program may not have installed correctly. If I point the device directly at the directory for any of these it says driver not found. I have never had such a time installing drivers for a supported OS. It came with Win 7 on it. I am just trying to perform a clean install. I will gladly provide the device ID's for anyone at HP that can give me a driver that will work. The ones on the appropriate page do not. I know I am missing the IDT sound driver, The realtek ethernet driver, I believe the ATI HD Video driver, and the Broadcom Wireless driver for starters but once again all version new and legacy on the drivers page DO NOT install.  Help. I am this close to calling HP and returning this thing. I only received it today and would have no qualms about sending it back.

Hi: This is a peer to peer forum.  No one on this forum is authorized to respond on behalf of HP to any posts made here. I looked at the support and driver page for the 14t-1000, and that model is 5 years old according to the release dates of drivers listed there. Ar you sure that is the model number? Can you please post the product number for the PC?  The product number can be found on the same sticker as the serial number. You can also post the top line of each hardware ID's for each device needing drivers. I'll see what I can find. The driver directly from Realtek should install the card reader (PCI Device).  You want the first driver on the list. http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=15&PFid=25&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

  • IOS6 Makes WIFI drop constantly!

iOS6 Makes WIFI drop constantly on my iphone! How can I fix this? Thanks to your new sloppy OS6, I should never of updated! The maps is a mess as well.

I was not aware I was treating someone badly, merely showing frustration on paying so much money on equipment, should definitely have quality associated with it. Saying “Thanks to your new sloppy OS6, I should never of updated!” refers to apple developers and their QA testing team for allowing a release with two big fall-backs. As well as a mistake I made by updating. I will make sure not to start my post off irritated (see the correct spelling) and hostile so I can get as much as possible. Next time I will send out a bunch of flowers, some bunnies and unicorns jumping out of rainbows. Where everyone can hug each other and sing along on the word messiness, maps and Wi-Fi. Doing that, I presume the “much” I would accumulate would be more than a link to the apple feedback service and I will get an iOS dedicated to me with my own link as well.
I will gladly redirect myself to: www.apple.com/feedback/ that was probably the only thing you had to post. Except if you will provide me with the “much” and a new IOS, then I will send some flowers, bunnies and Unicorns immediately.

  • Wifi dropping constantly on a MacBook Air and iPad 2 and iPad 3.  I am not computer savvy so any solution will have to be in 'normal' language, please.

I keep looking for the solution to wifi dropping constantly, but just can't understand the answers, let alone follow the instructions.  Can anyone please explain in 'baby' language how to stop wifi constantly dropping on my MacBook Air and iPads 2 and 3.  I have had this problem for about three weeks and prior to that everything was fine.  I am using a D-Link Router on channel 11, with AOL as my provider.  Thank you so much.

That is correct, so I have just been told!!  Our Router is a D-Link DSL-2640R which we access via typing 192.168.1.1 into our Internet Explorer Browser on a Windows PC computer.  All this has been working for years.  The Summary page for the Router shows Internet, DSL and Wireless are all connected and working fine.  We have changed the channel to 11 which has made things faster and is not in conflict with nearby systems, but wi-fi still drops on the Mac and iPads.  I have only had this problem for a matter of a few weeks.  Before that all worked perfectly fine.
By the way thank you very much for trying to help.

I see that you are having problems with Skype on your HP computer. I would like to help with this issue but I need some information.
Can you provide the full model and product number of the computer? Here is a link that shows how to find that information.

  • Brand new HP Envy (windows 8) constantly crashes

    Hi,
I just bought a HP envy audio desktop (i7, windows 8) 2 weeks ago. After a few hours, it crashes with no reason. Since it was a brand new, we didn't have time to install anything on it, so it is pretty "out-of-the-box". Crashes could appear many times a day, or nothing for 2 days. When it crashes, nothing responds anymore: no mouse, no keyboard, no CTRL ALT SUPP. So I guess it is an hardware issue. When it crashes, we need to shut it down with the on/off button and start it over.
It can happen reading a video with VLC or simply just surfing on the web or watching pics.
Since we thought it was a hardware issue, we brought it back to the reseller after one week to have a brand new computer (same model)  since yesterday. Then we have now the same issues (sudden crash).
We bought a high quality PC, so expensive one, from a recognize company, we expected that buying a more than 1000$ computer will ensure to be able to start using it quite immediately.
Hope to have an answer quickly.
    Regards.

    Guiguy,
    Welcome to the HP Forum!
You want to spend the time to set up the computer entirely.  This is not an "HP" thing -- this is true for any computer.
Not only is the computer in need of Windows Updates the first time you turn it on, this is going to be true for the first few days -- LOTS of updates.
You MAY need to check with the computer's webpage and see if there are any updates for the HP software.  There might be a couple of HP drivers that need updating if the computer spent some time on the store shelf before being purchased.
Things to check include whatever programs are in the Start Menu -- that is, programs that Start when the computer is booted.  Some programs / software packages do very well when started from the desktop or from the Start Screen; the same programs may not do so well as "Start Up" programs that execute as soon as the computer is booted.
Sometimes the problem is not the "Start" programs, but just a program that you are using that "should be fine" but is not FINE and is hanging and hogging the cpu, the network, the disk -- something.  You can check the Task Manager to see what is running and how much resource it is consuming.
If your computer is underpowered, that is, you bought a big computer with say, 4GB of ram (memory), then you are not going to be happy.  Windows 7 is a resource HOG - Windows 8 is better, but it is not a "tiny OS".
If you are connected to the Internet and you are not well protected, your computer than be infected almost as soon as you start surfing the 'net.  Make sure your Internet Security software is switched on and working.
Sometimes all it takes is to make sure the BIOS is set to defaults.

  • Strange wifi problem on a brand-new MacBook Pro

Hey there, I'm new here. Desperation has got the better of me, and I hope I can get some advice.
So, last sunday I bought a brand new 13" MacBookPro with 2.8g i7 processor and 10.7.2 OS (I can't update to 10.7.4 because System Update tells me the download has been tampered with or corrupted after I waited 2 hours for it to finish, but I'm trying a direct download from the website). Here's the exact product: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-MD314LL-13-3-Inch-VERSION/dp/B005CWIZ4O/ref= sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1340301247&sr=8-5&keywords=macbook+pro+13
Everything is all perfect except for a strange wifi problem. Note that the wifi does not turn-on or off, it doesn't disconnect after 'sleep', it doesn't get less speed, it doesn't constantly leave a preferred connection (once I chose my home wifi it always connects to it no problem). The wifi bar is always full. What is wrong is that the internet is kinda 'glitchy'. The best metaphor I can think of is that it's like a car that has to be pushed down the road before the engine can start. Please, bear with me because this is kinda hard to explain and I'm not good at tech lingos.
One of the symptoms is browsing can get really slow and inconsistent, almost as if the wifi gets turned off in the middle of browsing. For example: if I look something up on Google and then open 5 new tabs, probably only 2 or 3 of those tabs will eventually load while the other two will not get past the long 'http:.......google.....etc etc' address and will eventually show one of those 'error loading page because there's no Internet connection' notice. This happens a lot. Sometimes I have to refresh/retry loading a page a couple of times before it finally loads, then usually everything will get back to normal and I will be able to open multiple tabs with no problem, but in a couple of minutes I would try to open another site and the problem will start again.
So I tried to see how it does with downloading using iGetter. Fortunately I also have a Macbook (white-plastic casing one) and my brother has an old 2006 MacbookPro so I can compare. With those two older Apples iGetter starts receiving data in less than 8 seconds after I click Start, while my brand-new Macbook Pro can take up to 15-20 seconds, sometimes it doesn't even start at all and I have to re-click the start button. But once the download actually starts (on my new MacBook Pro), it downloads like normal, it doesn't stop and the speed is also as good as I can get. Strange huh? Hence, like a car that has to be pushed before the engine starts.
I also tried 'speed testing' from a website with all 3 laptops. On my old MacBook and my brother's MacBook pro, once I click 'begin test' it takes only a couple of seconds of 'ping' before the download/upload speed measurements start, but with my new MacBook Pro (just like with iGetter) it takes up to almost a minute before the measurements start, sometimes it won't start at all and I have to re-start the test.
Well, thanks for reading. And hope you can help me shed some light into this. Because it is really preventing me from really enjoying my new MacBook Pro. And if this is most likely a hardware problem, I'd better get back to the store and try to get it replace or something while it's only been 5 days. *cheers*

Hey guys.. Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, I bought the MacBook in Indonesia where there are no such thing as an AppleCare. The only option is to leave the Apple product to one of the 'Authorized Apple care centre' and have whoever do whatever to it without guarantee of success. As for returning it and getting a brand new one, I also don't know if there is such a deal here, but that's actually a good idea, will try to go to the store tomorrow. Although, I'm worried that the problem might be with OSX Lion or something and getting a new one won't help.
mark75090, I've tried resetting the router when I first noticed te problem, didn't work though. I've checked my new MacBook's wi-fi (option+click wifi bar) and it says 'PHY Mode: 802.11g', so does my MacBook and the old MacBook Pro. I don't know what those mean though, and I don't know whether or not my router is an N., can you tell me more please.. I have tried with the other two turned off, and only the new MacBook using the wi-fi but the problem persists. I have also tried connecting directly to the router, but as I described, the problem is too subtle for me to notice the difference.
Also, if I create a brand new Wi-Fi connection in network preferences and connect to my router through the new Wi-Fi profile, the problem seems to be gone for an hour or so, then it always comes back though. I have also just finally installed 10.7.4, but it doesn't help either.

  • How long b4 Apple does something about WiFi not workin on BRAND NEW macbook

I've got a brand new Macbook Pro and I feel very stupid about buying it, as I can't use WiFi in 9 out of 10 places I go. Never had this problem with my G4 and all the other people who go to these same WiFi hosposts don't seem to have a problem. Honestly, I've tried every trick, every suggestion on every post on every forum. NOTHING solved the problem. How long before Apple addresses the problem?

When I had the wireless upgrade kit installed into my PowerMac G5 Quad, it suffered exactly the same problems. Dropped connections at random, yet my original PowerMac G5, sitting right next to the Quad, full signal every time.
Apple tech support couldn't shed any light on it, so I performed an erase and install. Completely wiped my hard drive and reinstalled from scratch.
Wireless worked perfectly from there on, still does, no problem.
With the 2 MBP's, I performed an erase and install prior to using the machine proper and neither have had wireless problems. The 15 inch was returned due to a grainy screen and I upgraded to 17".
All I can suggest, from my own experience, is to back up your user data etc, perform an erase and install, log into your network during first start up after reinstall. Worked fine for me.

  • Worn out software, useless crapware on a brand new HP Envy laptop

I purchased an HP Envy last week. Brand new - i7, 8GB ram, 1TB disk. Screaming machine. Crammed with crap. And I got it from BestBuy.
My primary purpose in buying my laptop was specifically Cyberlink PowerDirector, which came with the machine via Cyberlink Multimedia Suite. Nice. Except that the suite - and all of the products inside it including PowerDirector - is two releases old. It came with PD v10, and the current release is v12.
You disabled Windows Defender, then installed McAfee Anti virus software, and then advertised that the system came with McAfee. McAfee requires an annual subscription, with the first year free (offered by McAfee, not BestBuy). So it's not exactly "free". Shame on you. It is not HP's policy to do this, says HP tech support, it was BestBuy's policy. In fact, HP does not recommend, nor support, McAfee or Norton (another common after-market add-in).
Adding insult to injury, my purchase ALSO included a "free" anti-virus software, offered by the reseller, one of three that I could choose between WebRoot, McAfee, and TrendMicro. Of course, it's not really free again: I have to purchase a subscription. But I now have THREE anti-virus applications.
Next, there were two copies of CyberLink YouCam. One is called "YouCam", the other is "YouCam 5". They are both from CyberLink. They are the same application, except that one is older version than the other, and neither are the latest copies.
Next, there are several multimedia players - Windows Media player, Cyberlink, and sMedio. Really: how many do I need?
You did the same with photo viewers and mangers: Windows Photo Gallery, Picture Gallery, and arguably Windows File Explorer.
Then you did it again with music players: Windows Media Player, XBox, HP Connected Music.
Then you did it again with file sharing: Box, SkyDrive, HP Connected Drive.
And you did it again with video editors: Movie Maker and Cyberlink.
And again with messenger/chat software: Skype and Pinger.
What's more - you didn't provide any documentation for any of the software you crammed onto the system.
Although I am happy with my laptop and accessories, you have significantly cheapened it's value, as I now have to spend a great deal of time figuring out which are needed Windows components, which is crapware, and which is duplicated junk.
When I got it home, I took it out for a spin, and discovered the aforementioned oddities. I brought the problems to the attention of BestBuy (corporate HQ, it turned out), who referred me back to the store manager, who referred me to their GeekSquad, who never - 2 weeks later - responded back.
At the same time, I contacted HP tech support, who confided in me that they have no knowledge of how this software got installed, who installed it, or who to go to for support. They don't even recommend using some of the software that came instlled (eg, McAfee).
Nice. So HP is blaming BB. So I personally went into BB with my rant, and spoke with a Geek, who walked me through a series of steps. Honestly, it was nice being talked to like a child, for it made me realize how the process worked.
"Did you order a custom machine?" "No."
"Was the box opened before you opened it?" "No."
"Was there a packing slip on the box?" "Yes. It indicates it came from an HP shipping center."
"So, you got an unopened box from HP, and you want to know where/when/how we installed that software?" "Uh, well..."
Nice. Now I have HP blaming BestBuy, and BestBuy blaming HP. However, BB seemed to be playing the role of tactful diplomat: Geek suggested the possibility that Microsoft coerced HP into installing the duplicate/crapware/old software.
I'm not buying it: I came from HP's factory, and much of the duplicate stuff is from HP which overlaps MS applications. And why would MS induce anyone to disable Windows Defender so that a competing product can be used, or, why would MS induce anyone to include PowerDirector on top of MovieMaker?
So, HP, I challenge you to explain why my new machine contains old/duplicate/crapware.  Did BB put you up to the specs?  Did MS put you up to the specs?

If it makes you feel any better, I ordered my HP Envy 17-j184nr directly from HP and it came with all of the same crap installed, and I've spend hours trying to get everything cleaned up so it's actually useable.

  • Brand New HP Envy 15 keeps freezing. Need Help

I bought a new HP laptop a week ago and it seemed like a fantastic machine. However it kept freezing to the point where I had to hold down the power button to turn off. Went back to retailer and did a straight swap.
However the new laptop (same model) is exactly the same. Freezes randomly, I may be browsing, or in a word document or reading a pdf and it will just freeze.
I'm not very technical but have updated drivers etc. A few days ago upon startup the BIOS updated.
I'm completely confused and have spent a lot of money on the laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @UA14 ,
    @colum5
I grasp that your notebook freezes or locks up.  As this was a new purchase you returned it to the retailer and exchanged it.
The replacement did the same thing.  You have done a bios update but there was no change.
Have you done all your Windows updates?
Have you ran the HP Support Assistant to aid with HP updates?
Have you tried doing a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8). This will reinstall the OS but should not affect your personal files.  Just to be safe I do recommend you backup your data first.
Here is a link to Computer Locks Up or Freezes (Windows 8) that may also help.
With this being a brand new purchase, I recommend contacting HP support for assistance, especially since this is not the only one  with the same issue.  They can remotely access your system to  help find and fix difficulties.

  • No HDMI Audio Out Option on Laptop, Brand New HP Envy 17

I am trying to watch youtube and other streaming video on my television. I have a receiver that has 5 hdmi in that I use to run all my devices. When I plug in my HDMI cord the video plays on my tv but no audio, and I hear the external device disconnect sound.
