Will not start in normal mode

Firefox 19.0.2 was running OK. Today will not open in normal mode only safe mode. Uninstalled 19, rebooted, installed fresh copy of 20.0 Same problem. Updated Plugins ( Java, Flash, QuickTime, Silverlight) Restart Firefox same problem. Disabled Plugins, restart, same problem. Change to compatibility mode Windows XP SP3, Firefox opens normally. No extensions enabled. No Addons used. Using default theme
Firefox will not release from RAM when closed. Use Task Manager to End Process. Doesn't allow closing of Firefox. Must reboot.
Have not added any new software or hardware to system.
Submitted multiple Crash reports to Mozilla

Disabling the Hardware Acceleration did the trick!

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.

4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At or near the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "System Version." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Starting Virtual Machine will not start from hibernate mode.

Hi. I had a BSOD and upon rebooting my machine one of my virtual machines is stuck in "hibernate" mode and will not boot up.
I attempted to restore to previous versions of the vmc, but that did not work.
The error i receive is.
"Could not enable integration functions"
Retry or Continue.
Selecting "Continue" states "the operation failed. The virtual machine is not running"
Does anyone have any idea how to get a VPC up and running from this situation?

My IMac 24" intel will not start in safe mode.

Did a Shift - Command-V and the black screen showing all the startup steps appeared and it all looked good except: AFL Alart Sockwed cant update and INIT Reboot transmit failed. All else looks good. I have tried this 3 times and never go past that point. Then the screen turns off white like it does when it starts normally before the apple appears and the last time the screen went black.
I have tried starting with just the Shift Key and computer starts up but not in safe mode.
I have tired starting with the OS X disk and the C key and it will not recognize the disk.I used the #1 disk since the instructions are printed on the disk. Did not work so I tried disk 2 and I get a menu to start the OS or tools. If I click on either one the screen goes white and stays that way.
computer starts fine and provides a login window, and then the desktop screen with screen saver pictures in perfect color. As it goes through starting programs it starts the same programs that is had open when the computer originally crashed. Even when I close them, before it locks up again, and I am forced to restart the same programs open up to the same place. Its like the computer is frozen in one location and will not go beyond that point. Eventually the screen turns white and sometimes black and sometimes gray.
Tech support thought it was the video card, put a new one in but did not fix the problem and then said it was not that but that it was the monitor. I said that did not make sense since the monitor and desktop icons and pictures are beautiful and clear. They then said it was the inverter board on the monitor and Apple only replace the whole thing. I purchased an inverter board and replace it. No change. The tech person said that the computer works find without the monitor connected - I will see if that is correct next. Isn't that a more systimatic testing procedure then trying parts to see if it works? Oh I did do the complete long hardware test. Took about an hour and it passed! Isn't this strange?
I have to replace a monitor that has perfect color and image if it is something simple to fix or replace. Has anyone ever encounter anything like this? Could it be a virus?

As you probably read everthing was working fine for over an hour so I shut down and put everything back together completely, all monitor screws, aluminum cover and screws and screen cover, unplugged the external monoitor, plugged in external HD's and turned on the computer and guess what the old problem returned. So I unplugged the external HD's and plugged in the external monitor and took the screen cover off and restarted the computer and guess what it is working fine. Doing a disk utility verify first then if no problem I will unplug the external monitor if all is good then I will plug in the external HD's if all is good I will install what I believe is the problem the monitor cover screen.
Your post about the Temp sensor and another post about the cable to the monitor with the temp sensor has me believing that the monitor is getting too hot for the fans to cool down or the sensor is faulty. Which one is the temp sensor? It is the monitor cable that has the little box at the end that screws to the logic board?
How do you know if the secsor is bad or the monitor is overheating and the sencor is working correctly? Is there a test?

Wireless works FINE in Safe Mode, WILL NOT work in Normal Mode

Hi All:
I've been smashing my head against the wall with this one. I have uninstalled ALL unnecessary applications I could find. Basically all that is left is Windows XP, Drivers and Patches in Add/Remove Programs. I have removed the wireless driver, downloaded a newer one and installed it, still nothing. I have tried it using no Wireless Security on the AP, and also using WPA, and wouldn't work with either in Normal Mode, but worked with both in Safe Mode. I ran a virus and spyware check (before uninstalling Norton), and it came out clean.
The weirest thing is, sometimes it does connect and get an IP in Normal Mode, but when I run a ping to my local gateway, half the packets are lost (timeout), and the ones that do reply I see a response time ranging from 2ms to 5000ms with no other traffic. I have no idea what can be causing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If all else fails, I will resort to formatting it and installing WinXP from scratch, since I doubt it's hardware.

It appears that some device whose driver does not load in Safe Mode malfunctions.
If this occurs before loading any drivers for added devices, then you'll need service.

Will not open in normal mode

Firefox will crash every time I try to open it. It then opens in safe mode. I have reset it and restarted the computer and it still crashes. I have sent over 127 crash reports in December alone. I have tried to reinstall but it stops and says it cannot continue to install. None of my programs that use the internet will open I get a "stopped working" or Launcher stopped working message. (PCMatic, Quicken, Malewarebytes, Superfast PC) and many other programs that I've downloaded and uninstalled after they will not load. Nothing seems to correct the problem
Short of doing a clean install of windows and starting all over again I do not know what to try next.

Mac Pro 13" Will NOT start in Safe Mode - Tried everything!

hello I'm trying to get my Mac started overnight it's decided that it doesn't want to work.
ive tried various startup commands to see if I can fix the issue but safe mode will not work what so ever
When I login this appears and at 40/50% it just turns off.

Visibroker gatekeeper will not start in SSL mode on Linux

Has anyone succesfully configured the Visibroker Gatekeeper with SSL on a Linux Platform?
All of the installations of 9iAS 1.0.2.2.1 I've performed on a Linux platform install the shared library "libvbj30ssl.so" in the $806_HOME/vbroker/bin directory with a 0-byte size. Unfortunately, this shared object library is required to allow the Gatekeeper to start in SSL mode. Furthermore, I checked the Borland website and learned that the Visibroker SSL pack does not support the Linux platform (yet). So my question to Oracle is "Do you REALLY support the configuration of Discoverer Plus w/SSL on Linux"? If so, what Borland Visibroker components are you using and why is the shared object library I speak of installed with a 0-byte size? Is this a simple error in the compilation of the shared object library during installation or did you guys purposely zero out the libvbj30ssl.so shared object library to simplify your port from Solaris to Linux?

Firefox 19 will not start in any mode. Uninstalled and reinstalled with out effect. Win7 w/updates, ZoneAlarm AV and FW. ATI 6570 w/updates

Yesterday, FF 19 stopped working on one of two similar desktops. Initially it did start in safe mode but it doesn't any longer. Removed the application multiple times with Window's control panel and Revo Uninstaller. Original application directory deleted and registry scanned for remnants.

Will not start in safe mode

Using PB G4 15 in. Trackpad froze and then machine auto shut down. Restart failed. V boot failed. Pram boots all failed. Has reached apple screen once but froze and auto shut down again. Please help.
Ps note sure which OS as can't power up to check. Was fully updated

can you be a little clearer in what you have done so far?
by v boot, do you mean booting to Verbose mode? and PRAM boots - the system shouldn't boot when you reset the pram, it will clear the contents of the PRAM and reboot back to the chime when finished.
sounds like it could be a hardware problem - maybe a hard disk problem. Apple recommend booting from a disk first and using Disk Utility to repair the disk. If you can't do this try booting to single-user mode (hold down cmd-s on start up) and use the command 'fsck -fy' and then issue 'reboot'.
If that doesn't work try booting from an external disk or mac through traget disk mode, if possible. if not, take the machine to the nearest service centre.

My power mac G5 will not start up normally

I have done everything i can think of to get video from it and dont know what else to do.
1) I unplugged all ext drives and speakers. Restarted this worked the first time I tried it hasn't worked since.
2) Plugged in ext drives one at a time untill one worked to identify the drive causing the problem (never really got a culprit computer would only start up with one in, it didnt matter which one)
3) Went into system preferrences remove all items except OS from start up (everything worked until next start up)
4) Resest button SMU (no change)
5) Cleaned out the dust from the board (no change)
6) Unplugged Power cord from the back of CPU (no change)
7) Check monitor settings(no change)
8) Switched monitors completely (no change)
Whats happening now
Turns on, start up chime, fans run. (I get nothing on the monitor, no apple logo, and no blue, grey or black screen)

OK, so that indicates no POST (power on self-test) problems, but either the OS is not loading or something is crashing. The PMU/SMU will eventually cause the fans to firewall their speed when the OS doesn't tickle the fans watchdog timer in the SMU/PMU.
Are you getting any video or monitor flash when this is going on? No grey screen at power up?
We can even get very fundamental by trying an open firmware boot, holding down the cmd-option-O-F key combination at boot and seeing if you get the white O-F terminal screen. This doesn't involve any boot device at all, just the boot code coming out of the firmware itself. If, perchance, you do get the O-F terminal screen, then you might try the following two commands to see what happens:
reset-nvram <enter>
reset-all <enter>
which will cause the machine to try to reboot completely after having the NVRAM contents set to their default values. Of course, if you don't get to the terminal screen with an O-F boot, you have some serious problems, like a failed video card or a hosed CPU or logic board. Let's hope it's not that.

MacBook Pro 13 2010 running Mountain Lion: will not boot and shows a folder with a flashing question mark. Will not start in 'safe mode' i.e holding shift on start up - nor can I call up any utilities with the OSX shortcuts. Any thoughts?

Following an automatic update, the machine wouldn't boot. Screen came on (shows white) - then either showed a 'No-Entry' Sign and a spinning cog, or a folder with a qusetion mark. I tried to start the machine in different modes ( eg. holding shift after the tone ) but nothing worked. after leaving the machine alone for 1 hour. It worked perfectly again. I did a 'verify disk' check which found no problems. 2 hours later it then froze ( In - Photoshop). Could not force quit, so shut down, and have not been able to boot again since (white lit screen - flashing folder with question mark) . I have also taken the hard drive out and checked the connections which seem fine. Any suggestions? - Is the Hard Drive dead. : other info : It was also running parallels 8, with Windows 7. at the time of the update....

New widows 7 install on amd phenomx6 64 bit firefox 3.6 crashes as soon as it is started also will not start in safe mode it crashes before it starts. it will run when windows is in safe mode

this is a brand new system from zt systems. it came with almost no software installed. no toolbars or anything, only trial of microsoft office.
I don't think that it even generates a crash report.
