Win Encore 5.1 won't write to LG Blu-ray burner

Encore 5.1 (CS5.5) and Win7 Pro new computer I just built. Trying to burn a DVD in Encore.
When I choose "Build" I see the drive (it's the only one on the computer) Everything seems fine. It builds the movie then gets ready to write and Encore says "Cannot Erase Disk."  I put in another DVD blank try it again, and when it comes to write it says "Please insert DVD media and then close the tray and click OK." Of course the tray is closed and there is good DVD media in it.  Next I try another disc and it errors out with "Encore was unable to complete the operation because of a hardware error (sense code 52102). Please contact the hardware manufacturer for more information."  I give up.
So I use Encore to output an ISO file, I drag it into Nero burning rom and it burns perfectly on the first try using the same LG drive and one of the discs that Encore failed on.  I've seen others say that this is the way you have to do it with Encore, but I refuse to back down to this. I've used encore CS4 for years and it burned great. Has the product gotten worse instead of better?  My LG is BH14NS40 on Win7 Pro, Asus p9X79 WS, i7 3930 and 16 gigs of ram.  Why won't Encore work with my drive when Nero does so beautifully?  Can I expect any different results when I install CS6?

You're saying, software wise, that it's whoever gets to the drive first owns it and no one else can get in
That pretty much distills the issue.
What happens with most "packet-writing" software is that it is set up to load at boot, and actually before most of the OS loads. It then reports to the OS that the multi-drive/burner is NOT a multi-drive/burner, but is, instead, a removable hard drive. Nero and Roxio have packet-writing software, that, when installed, will "hook" the multi-drive/burner. Windows Burning Utility, can do the same. The OS believes that packet-writing software, and just flags the multi-drive/burner AS a removable HDD.
Encore (and other Adobe programs, that can burn to DVD) looks to the OS for instructions, and the OS tells it, "there are NO burners on this system - just a removable HDD." That is all that En sees, so will refuse to Burn to Disk, as no burner is reported.
Now, other burning utilities, like the free ImgBurn, do not query the OS. Instead, they go to the hardware level, and look for an APTI for a multi-drive/burner. They do not care what the OS reports, as they work at the hardware level. They can get one around such problems.
This ARTICLE goes into more detail, and also links to the FAQ Entry, that John T. has already mentioned.
One way around this is to go to MSCONFIG and in StartUp, and Services, uncheck the packet-writing module, to keep it from loading at boot. Another method is to uninstall the offending program, say Nero, and then reinstall it in "advanced," or "manual" mode, and just do not install the packet-writing module. I have Nero on my computers, but it was installed without those modules. I have no issues.
Now might also be a good time to check for any firmware updates for your LG, as they issue those fairly often. Be SURE to read the full instructions, and make SURE that you understand them completely, before you update the firmware. I recommend printing those instructions out, and having them handy, following EACH step, in perfect order.
Good luck,
Hunt

I have burned to my external blu ray burner 3 times, but twice ended up with glitches in the project. now it stops at 59% and won't finish sharing. How do I get it to finish sharing?

It's a complex project and there are a lot of possibilities. Among them is the length; there are a number of reports of projects that are approaching 2 hours failing to burn.
If it's a question of jarring Create Disk into action, one thing that has worked for some users is simply to click on and the Apply button (s) in the Settings pane of the Blu Ray Share window and then hitting Cancel. This can be tested by duplicating your project and selecting a tiny section of your sequence and exporting. Change the Output Device to Hard Drive and see whether Create Disk successfully writes a disk image.
You can also  check that a specific clip isn't rendering properly. Since the process got to 59%, it may just mean that the burn couldn't be initiated by Create Disk – or it may indicate a problem with a clip toward end of your sequence. (If you can check the log, there may be something useful in there.)
Use the duplicated project and this time set a range for the last 30 minutes or so of the project and export it, using the Blu Ray destination. Again, set Output Device to HD and see whether it will complete.
    Good luck.

  • Encore CS6 hangs at slideshow build component of Blu-Ray disc/folder build

Encore stops responding at slideshow build during overall Blu Ray disc or folder build. Project consists of 96 min video timeline via PrPro dynamic link and Japanese & English subtitle tracks,  main menu plus 4 sub-menus (2 chapter menus, subtitles and slideshow). 2 menus are motion w/audio.
Slideshow consists of 147 jpegs. After 2nd build failure I reduced all images to uniform 1080 height. No transitions, no manual advance, no pan & zoom. Slideshow fit to audio duration of 2 mp3 assets totaling aprx 7 mins and individual slide durationof 2 secs. Aspect set to 16:9. Encoded size of slideshow  58.42 MB.
Running Win7 SP1 home  on i7-3610QM x8 for total 16GB mem w/NVIDIA Quadro 3000M gfx. No prior problems with this configuration for several Blu-Ray and DVD projects. This is first time out with a slideshow component. This particular project built successfully for workcopy Blu-Ray disc, with video timeline and subtitles, but no menus or slideshow.

    Thanks Stan,
I am not sure what you mean by your question if I resaved all files. When I resized the images I used Adobe Bridge's Photoshop image processor to bulk re-size the images, saving to a different folder than the originals. I kept the original file names (hmmm, now that I think about it, that may not have been the best choice), then replaced each image asset in Encore's project window, pointing to the file with the same name, but different folder (the preview image in the project window confirmed the reduced image sizes).
But anyway, rather than pulling my hair out risking another hang during the build, I simply made an m2v video files of the jpegs in PrPro (which allowed me to sync some cuts to the music) and placed it in a timeline. No stills now, just an additional timeline.
I'm writing this as the bluray disc build is chugging away. But here's another Encore anomoly, if you have an answer-- before I decided to build the slideshow in PrPro, I tried to save the Encore project with a different filename so I could try your suggestions without corrupting the working project. The save failed twice, well into long process of copying files, returning the error code, "Access Denied". Any thoughts?

  • Will Adobe Encore CS4 burn MTS files to an external blue ray burner if I buy one?

Will Adobe Encore CS4 recognize/burn MTS files to an EXTERNAL blue ray burner if I buy one?

Internal vs external should not matter.
I have a burned to external with CS4, but it was a long time ago.
And most importantly, Encore is not a reliable burner for many users, and they, and I, use imgBurn rather than Encore to burn.
Also, "burn an MTS" file is totally different from authoring and burning. Encore (was it by CS4?) added a limited AVCHD passthrough option. I have not used it.

  • Encore CS4 freezes when using dynamic link and blu-ray settings

I am using dynamic link to send a Premiere project to Encor using blu-ray for video and dolby digital for audio.  The project gets loaded correctly.  When I go to the build tab, I see the format is DVD.  I can create a project using DVD as the format output to a DVD folder.  When I select blu-ray as the format, Encore freezes.  I want to save everything as blu-ray format so that if and when I get a blu-ray burner, I can just burn the folder layout to blu-ray disc.  Is there a fix for this so that I can select blu-ray as the format?

    Worked for me!
    Thanks for the updates.

  • Encore CS4 refuses to see Blu-ray burner

Using Encore CS4, I had previously been able to burn HD video using my LG Blu-ray burner. Recently though i have been unable to build my projects and bun to Blu-ray. I get a "None Found" from the Recorder selection of the Build Project window even though the burner does display as an option when I select DVD as the recording format. I believe that one of two possibliites exist: 1. Some other software driver has broken my blu-ray driver and Encore can no longer see it, or 2. Some other software has captured the blu-ray burner device and Encore can no longer use it. I have already removed "Nero" because i have herad that it can cause Encore grief. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Encore won't create 5min simple blu ray video

I can't figure it out.  I have a simple 4-5 minute video I worked with in Premiere and all I want to do is put it on a blu ray disc with no menu. It really doesn't get more simple than this. Using adobe dynamic link I'm able to create the build as an image.  I burned it to a disc and it won't play.  So I tried opening up the image using VLC media player and it won't open.  Also I tried exporting the movie from Premiere as an MPEG2 and then importing it into Encore and same problem.  Is the video too short?  I've never had this problem.

    Hi,
thanks for all the replies especially Stan for trying to replicate the problem!  Here are some screen shots of what's on the disc:
Above: disc show the title of the movie
Above:  Two folders on the disc
    Above: Files inside BDMV
To answer Ann's question,  Yes it is a BD disk and yes it is a BD project
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Encore CS4, Blu-ray burning issues

    Greetings!
I'm trying to get some Blu-ray discs authored for a client and am running into a snag on the last 2 discs that remain. When it gets to actually writing to the BD media, it comes up with an error message (See screenshot).
This is starting to drive me up the wall as I've been fine all along with creating Blu-ray discs up until now, and I'm sure my client is getting anxious.
For what it's worth, I am using Verbatim DataLifePlus media, 25gb. As far as what I'm bringing into Encore (which I have been doing this method many times in the past with no snags whatsoever and getting great results), I'm using the Blu-ray M2V export option. There are no issues during the transcoding phase, it's just when it finally gets to actually writing to the media. I have created ISO's of the Blu-rays I'm trying to finish (Making the ISO files come out fine) and running into a snag using other software capable of burning disc images. With this said, what could be going on? Could my optical drive be kicking the bucket?
Also to point out, where it's telling me that there's not enough space, there is some remaining space.
An interesting thing to note as well, my write speed dropdown is grayed out (The media I'm using recommends 6X buring speed).
Any feedback would be hugely appreciated as I'm trying to get this job wrapped up.

If Ann's comment doesn't fix the issue for you, the most common workaround for this is to build to a folder and burn with ImgBurn (for PC) or toast (for Mac).
So what were the issues you ran into when you tried that.
I am sure you have searched this error, and you can see that there has been success in many situations. I do not believe that it is one problem.
I have generally believed that Ann is correct and that it refers to temporary storage on the hard drive. And users underestimate the amount of temporary hard disk drive space used.
Some users experience this error when they are creating dual layer BD disks, and a layer is more than 25G. Each video/layer must fit on one side.
And some users got resolution by reencoding to a lower bitrate (a 25G BD disk does not hold 25G). Encore uses padding to predict the size on disk (e.g. add 10% to the amount of space it predicts that build will use), and it can be wrong.
Always good to "run as administrator, though I don't know that ever fixed this issue if someone wasn't.

  • Blu Ray Burned in Encore CS4 play audio but no video

I've burned this project multiple times and everytime I get the menus and the audio, but no video when played on a Blu Ray player. The same disc plays fine in computer/laptop. And when I tried a shorter version of the project (10 minutes vs. an hour and a half for the original) it plays fine everywhere. Could the file size be causing my disc not to play in a BD-R player? Then why would it play on a computer/laptop?

  • LaCie d2 Blu Ray Burner not burning in Encore Mac

So I've built a blu ray disk in Encore and all set to burn the Blu Ray disk. When I hit burn, the LaCie drive asks for a disk. When I put the disk in, it waits and waits and then spits it back out. The disk is blank, and is a writeable Blu Ray disk. I am able to create a disk image but not burn it to a blu ray using my mac. Any imput?
    Thanks,
    Casey

The preferred method for many of us is not to use Encore to burn. For Mac, use toast. (For PC, imgburn.)
I always suspect permissions issues and/or other software taking control.

  • Encore doesn't complete build process of new Blu-Ray

Hello, I'm having some issues with Encore and am hoping someone can help me out. I built a menu for my Blu-Ray project that is pretty simple and am having it not complete the build process while trying to render a menu. I made sure to check for errors before building an image and it said there were none. I really don't know what else to say as everything else is pretty standard. I am using a motion background that is about 8 minutes long with a sound that's about 12 seconds long for my menus. I'm not sure if the audio will keep repeating or just play once, but I'm hoping for the earlier. If not I'm going to have to go loop the audio a bunch of times in SoundBooth then import that. Either way it shouldn't make the build not work.
I tried to uninstall QuickTime, restart my computer, and build again (because I heard other codecs can cause conflicts with encore) which solved one error that was coming up but the build stops while rendering a menu now. I'm using vversion CSI if that matters. I will try and reinstall Encore right now but would love some other input in case that doesn't work. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

When an Encore project has had numerous (which for Encore can be only 1 ) errors, simply making a change may not be enough. To test specific possible issues, start a brand new project, with a new name, and use only what you need to test the problem. And in  your case, if you haven't already, I would start the project from scratch. You can import the psd menus.
Either way it shouldn't make the build not work.
I assume that it could make the build not work, particularly if the problem is the menu as you stated.
See this for menu duration and timing issues.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/encore/cs/using/WSF49EA5DB-3743-49c2-9831-F66328B192F8.html#WS AC740C6D-83DE-489e-8B15-5A816A3019C7
The short audio will play and stop. The video will probably set the duration of the menu.
the build stops while rendering a menu now.
What happens if you use the "Render Motion Menu" option.
Edit: File -> Render -> Motion Menus.

  • What Blu-Ray Burner/Writer?

    Hi All
I'm going using FCP 7 to create some Blu-Rays, i need to purchase a Burner/writer. I've searched a few discussions but they are all from the US and when I google their recommendations the products are hard to find in the UK!
Can anybody recommend a BRW which will work directly with FCP7 budget is £200/300
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Martin

    Hi,
I use an LG BE06LU10 Super Multi Blue .. it does not say anywhere on the box or site that it is compatable with MAC OS but it works with FCP7 and indeed I have Toast with the BluRay plugin and it works great from there too. Have a look here http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&biw=1440&bih=780&q=LG+BE06lu10&um =1&ie=UTF-8&cid=16726374001672668744&ei=7xKzTMSYMs6L4Ab9puX5BQ&sa=X&oi=productcatalogresult&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CCYQ8wIwAA#ps-sellers
By the way I also use this drive to burn LighScribe dirves (DVDs). I first saw it on www.MACVIDEO.TV in 2008 ! look here http://www.macvideo.tv/dvd-authoring/reviews/index.cfm?reviewid=101802

  • Encore cannot see my Samsung Blue-ray burner

I have a PC, Win 7, with Encore CS6. It cannot see my burner. My computer does see it. Any ideas?

Many of us gave up on Encore burning disks several versions back. The workarounds provide more flexible and efficient burning. And in most cases, we want multiple disks, so our first step in Encore would be building to an image or folder anyway,.
ImgBurn is the favorite for windows; Toast for Mac.
In addition to that as a recommendation, few of us spend much energy troubleshooting such issues. The number one issue historically has been other programs taking control of the drive. Getting firmware up to date is probably second.
